We were sending her out of state to college so needed the reassurance that the car would be reliable and safe. When we heard the business was under new ownership, we weren't sure what to expect. I was incredibly impressed by the expertise and troubleshooting diligence exhibited by Kermit and the team at SHA. As a female, I usually hate speaking with auto shops because you either get dismissed or talked down to. Quite the contrary! Kermit walked me through the issue, was transparent along the way, showed me photos to review the work that had been done, and exhibited excellent customer service. I took my late model Toyota Camry to Smoky Hill with an electrical problem and it wasn't starting very easy on cold mornings. They quickly diagnose the problem and fix it for a very reasonable price and made a couple of common sense maintenance suggestions but i didn't feel like they were upselling at all. Had my daughter bring in her truck that had several issues. They replaced the relay and got it working which was good. In the process of checking out the AC they broke the mode changer for the air. I also requested diagnosing and fixing a brake issue. They said "it was fine" and did not service the brakes. It's an older vehicle and I don't think they wanted to mess with it. SMHA was honest and great during the 20 yrs I went there when Craig was the owner but now under new ownership, their prices are unbelievable. Their hourly labor per hr is almost the same as the dealership. They double the price of all the parts and they even double shipping costs for parts. They charge $145 just for diagnosing the issue and then double the price for parts they replace in the process of diagnosing the issue while they rule out other causes. This is all the while they are charging you $180+ for labor. read more

I've used Smoky Hill Auto for about 8 years to service an 07 Ford Freestyle, and a 17 Buick Enclave. Craig and his team are great. My car is serviced in the prescribed time, sometimes faster, and at a price that is always at least 50% less than the dealer quotes...and I've never had to go back for re-work. Today I took the Buick there...the Dealer wanted about $1600 for some new parts (that frankly should not have needed to be replaced on a 4 yr old car) and maintenance. Craig charged me just under $400. The key is that this is not an unusual story. Great service at a great price. You owe it to yourself to check them out next time you need work done. read more

Stopped by because my passenger side window was rolling down in a very strange way, like the window was rotating. They thought it was going to be a regulator, but when they got the door apart, they discovered it was a much more cost-effective repair and passed the savings onto me. I took my truck into celebration Chevrolet. They quoted me 8 grand to fix my truck. I took my truck here instead. Craig is a GREAT guy. He looked at everything Chevy told me was wrong. I have oil leak so walked in at 9am to inspect the problem. The staff told me keep my car for a day and he would inspect my car and estimate the cost. So i told him to call me back once the inspection is done so that i can come back to collect my car. Until 5pm(they close at 5:30), I made a call and he said he need to check it tomorrow. He didnt even say any excuse or sorry. So i had to run to collect my car. Wasted time in the morning and evening. Annoying because he didnt even call me to keep my car another day and it was closing time. Not keeping words, No excuses or apology. How can I trust even if he fixed my car? read more

If I could give zero stars I would. These people are crooks no wonder they offer low prices on labor. $380 fix, cost me $1050 that I should have not spent in the first place. Took my truck in for a steering issue I could hear. Left it for the day and they called to say it was a snapped CV Axel. I gave the ok to fix it and the cost was $380. I paid over the phone and picked up my truck and headed straight from there to meeting. Within less than 30 secs of driving I could tell my steering was worse than ever before. My steering wheel was completely crooked. Instead of being set at 90 degrees like it should it was at 0 degrees. If you dont know what that is then Google 360 degree circle. Basically it was set on a hard right position. I also noticed my steering felt as if I had little control. Any slight bump in the road or unevenness felt as if my whole front end was going to come apart. I dropped off my truck cause I heard a noise in my steering, it wasnt cause all of what I was experiencing after Smokey Hill replaced my CV Axel. I called smokey hill auto and Craig said I would have to bring it back so he can test drive it......shouldn't that have already been done?... Dropped it off again Smoemy Hill Auto said that my steering rack had snapped. I stated well it wasn't before b/c my truck wasnt driving like that when I brought it in. Craig replied "it must have happened when you drove it off the lot." You know the repsone any reputable business would say. He said it was going to cost $975 but he would cut me a deal and do it for $850. I almost had them replace it. But I took it over to Colorado Car Care Center and called a buddy who is a mechanic in Elizabeth to get a couple other opinions. They both confirmed that they snapped it replacing the CV axel b/c they used excessive force by prying they identified the pry mark and show me the fresh snap. I went over to SHA and told them they need to make this right. He said "I am not talking any blame it was already cracked and it snapped when you drove it off the lot." Well guess what they didn't own up to their mistake and a $380 fix, cost me $1050 that I should have not spent in the first place. read more

Love this place after only one experience! My Jeep Wrangler's radiator cracked over the weekend and with winter coming up I need something a little more reliable in the snow as well as a shop that was close enough I could drive it to without overheating to avoid a tow cost. Craig was great on the phone, listened to the issue, and asked when I could bring it in. Took it in around 1 pm got a call with the estimate at 2, and it was ready to go by 4. The cost of the repair was on the low side of the internet estimate and he looked at other issues I was having with it to let me know what was wrong. I had insufficient EGR flow on my Ford Escape. I took it to Smoky Hill Auto based on a couple recommendations I had received. Diagnostics, parts, and labor came to $190 to replace the EGR sensor. Since then I haven't had any issues with the EGR system. So far so good. A friend of mine was traveling in the area and had issues with his car. His regular mechanic back home told him he'd need major engine work. SMA told him that wasn't true and quoted him about half the price of his mechanic. He got it fixed at SMA, and as far as I know it's working fine. Also a friend from work highly recommends them. I'll update the rating as necessary as I plan to use these guys again in the near future. read more

I have had nightmare experiences with mechanics in the past, so real hesitant to trust mechanic shops. My neighbor recommended Smoky Hill Automotive to me, and mentioned that they had several opportunities to upsell, or overcharge for things that really didn't need to be fixed, and never did. I decided to try them out because we have 15-20 year old cars, and plan to keep them running as long as possible. I have had nothing but extremely positive experiences with Smoky Hill Auto. I have had them do engine and transmission replacements, brake jobs, front end suspension work, alignments, etc. Needless to say, I have spent a bunch of money with them, but never have I felt like they have taken advantage of me. In fact, several times they have thrown in extra service for free! Imagine that. I highly recommend them for anyone that is looking a trusty local mechanic that won't rip you off. read more

I found Smoky Hill Auto through Yelp when I moved to Colorado about a year and a half ago. A good mechanic can be hard to find, and I'm happy to say that I haven't had a problem with their service to date. Granted, I haven't required any major repairs to my car. So far, I've had standard oil changes, factory-required maintenance, and tune-ups. I've always dropped off and picked up my car after business hours, which is convenient and straightforward with their key drop box. The customer service has been excellent - the gentleman answering the phone is exceedingly polite and explains what unexpected issues, if any, were found with my car and what needs to be done. He's always kept me updated with a couple of calls over the course of the day that my car is in the shop. Payment over the phone using a credit card is easy and quick. I suppose the true test will come when a more major repair is needed, but for now, I have found their service to be honest and friendly. I'd gladly recommend them based on my experience. read more

My son brought in his jeep to fix the power steering pump. They indicated that the clutch would be going in the future and interesting enough they had one in stock. On the way home the clutch went and back he went. After less than a week the transmission wouldn't work. After over $1000 the jeep still does not work and Craig, the shop owner, will not warranty any of his work. Really avoid this place. read more

I walk in to drop of my truck due to dash lights and tail lights not working and he tells me to take it to a electrical shop that's an hour away .Somehow I get the feeling he just didnt want to do business with me . Needed some work done on my truck. They were able to get me in and out the same day. The work was to replace my clutch master cylinder. Things just didn't feel right after I drove the truck. Something was hanging up when the clutch peddle was pushed in. I informed them of the problem and they got me right in. After picking up my truck things weren't much better. I'm just a backyard mechanic and it was obvious to me what the problem was yet they were not willing to do the right thing and fix it properly. So $195 down the drain. I replace the faulty clutch master cylinder myself for $50. The speed in witch they got me in and out was 5 star work but not being willing to do what is right is why I'm giving 1 star. read more
