Matthew did a great job repairing our 30 year old thermal solar system which stopped working. I've never seen it run so efficiently and a lot quieter. Matthew was very responsive, coming over to analyze the issues and providing quick competitive quotes. Our system had all sorts of unusual configurations but Matthew displayed a "can do" attitude matched with deep expertise and problem-solving skills to work through them. It was reassuring to see him actually plan solutions before jumping into cutting pipes. Turned out we had pretty much a full system collapse and it was not easy to determine what was working or not. Matthew patiently worked through each part, troubleshooting and fixing until everything was running smoothly. Matthew came through again with our radiant floor problems. The thermostat of some 20 years age died. I tried to put in a new Honeywell wi-fi thermostat that had a third wire, but no luck. He figured out the transformer even though the notation was arcane and there was no real instructions for the old controller. The heater works great now and my wife is very HAPPY. Matthew is a pro. I wish I'd used him from the beginning. My plumber on an ADU project didn't have the skill needed to follow through on the radiant floor system in his contract. When he hit a wall, he called Matthew. Matthew fixed the problem in a few hours and left me with a very nicely-wired system, with everything accessible and serviceable. Fast forward a year and I needed help adding a second Nest thermostat in order to separate out heating zones. I got two visits from OnTech, "the Google Nest install team," and both were failures in separating the zones. Matthew to the rescue again - this time he just texted me a wiring diagram that I was able to follow for myself. No charge, no problem. System worked like a dream on the first try after that. I had urgent need to get self-installed radiant heat system hydrostatically tested for inspection as I did not have experience or equipment to do so. Called East Bay and Matthew was very responsive and was able to come out the next day (saturday) to get me sorted for inspection. Matthew is the man. We were new homeowners, and knew nothing about our overly-complicated hydronic system that included radiant heating, hot-water heating, and forced-air heating all in one big mess of a system and Matthew took the time to figure it all out. We had made the mistake of trying Supreme Plumbing because of their Yelp reviews and they charged us lots of money to replace a part that didn't need to be replaced and then told us we would have to spend thousands re-building the system, and they wouldn't be able to schedule it for over a week, while we were without heating or hot water. They're not bad people, but they wouldn't admit that they didn't understand the system or what was wrong. Matthew came over that same day, spent a few hours figuring it all out, replaced just a couple parts for a few hundred dollars, and explained to us everything and how it worked so we would know for the future. We bought our house recently, which came with hydronic/radiant heating. I tried to install a Nest smart thermostat to replace the original thermostat that came with the system, which didn't go well... the heat completely stopped working, even after reverting back to the old thermostat. I called the original installers whose contact info was on the hydronics module... they were based out of Napa and gave me a hefty quote, including over $200 just for the travel!? That's when I searched on Yelp and found East Bay Hydronics. Matthew was quick to respond (tip: text the number vs call), I sent the photos of my Nest wiring and he said he could take care of it. He came over the very next morning. He didn't charge for the visit, just the hourly rate to fix the problem. He's done a lot of Nest installs and was able to spot that my wiring was wrong and on top of that, the system was clogged with calcium deposits which is why it wasn't heating fast enough. He fixed both within an hour. On top of that, he looked at my tankless hot water boiler (not hot enough) and helped resolve that as well. He didn't just fix problems, he showed me how I can do it myself next time around, so I don't need to call anyone. I was especially impressed by his nifty infrared scanner that can see the coils under the concrete and tell if it's heating up. You can tell he knows his s**t and brings decades of experience with radiant heating and plumbing. And he genuinely wants to make you happy in your house and looks at things holistically vs individual billable transactions. This is why I love small business. I'm definitely going back to East Bay Hydronics when it's time for radiant system extensions to additional rooms. read more

It has been awhile since they finished the repair but I need to warn everyone to be careful with pricing, they don't have a standard pricing system and they rip people off if they think you have money. They charged more than $1000 for 3 hours of work, all they did was replacing a simple part, and the part was paid for separately, this was 4 times more expensive than the other technician, if I knew they were this over-priced I would have never let them do the repair. So be warned and talk about price before the work starts! read more

REALLY impressive team! Mathew is clearly knowledgable and has exceptional diagnostic skills with complicated hydronic systems. He was fair, transparent and did excellent work. He and his team replaced the water tank inside the boiler, the indirect tank and various valves, corrected the improperly configured installation ( now makes sense). They ran a copper 1 " line from the house to the city main, install a christie box and then replaced all of my galvanized pipes under the house with copper complete with a recirculation loop so that my hot water arrives at the faucet in 1/2 the time. They were unbelievably competent and wonderful to work with. Mathew also has a really strong network of people to call on. We had a sewer line back up because of a city problem on a Saturday and he had a guy with a camera at the house within an hour. I would hire them again in a second! read more
