My 20-year-old tank gas water heater sprung a leak and needed urgent replacement. Unfortunately, the previous homeowner installed a new furnace in the same garage utility closet, partially blocking access to the water tank. I contacted several different plumbing and HVAC companies for bids, but most said it would be difficult or impossible to remove the old tank without incurring a huge fee to move the furnace as well. Fortunately, Angel from Velasco's brainstormed that they could lift the old tank out by temporarily removing a furnace exhaust pipe, without needing to move the entire furnace. He was confident about working around this tricky piece of the puzzle, and gave me a competitive quote for a tankless gas water heater replacement that would fit better in the available space after the old tank was removed. The replacement was scheduled for two days later. The crew arrived promptly at 7am and the entire project was completed by noon. They were meticulous about cleaning up after their work, too. I am glad to hire Velasco's HVAC to replace my old gas furnace with a Heat Pump. Angel is very honest, hard working, professional and knowledgeable and he also has a very good team. Work involved installing new electrical circuits and refrigeration lines, and modifying existing air ducts in order to fit the fan coil unit into the old gas furnace space. Angel estimated it will take 3 days for the installation, maybe 2 days if everything goes smoothly, because we will have no heating during those two very cool days. Angel and his team arrived 7:30 am the first day, and worked long hours to install the outdoor and indoor units. The second day they came to reconnect all air ducts and Thermostat to start testing the whole heat pump system. I was very happy he finished the installation in 2 days as promised. We have central heat again! This has been a long process for us, but after speaking with several other installers, I'm so glad we chose Velasco's for the project. Angel was incredible. In every step of the process, Angel was professional, on time, and explained all the various options thoroughly, and answered my numerous questions. At my house in SF, my downstairs was cold and I wanted to move to a heating system that would reduce my fossil fuel consumption. HVAC systems can be a big purchase, and I found Velasco's to be a trustworthy and skillful partner. I'm 100% satisfied and I'm already planning to use them again for another project. In the planning stage of my project, before I had selected a contractor, Angel was generous with his time. When he visited my home to write an estimate, he demonstrated excellent listening and problem solving skills. He patiently chatted with me to understand the problems and whole system before proposing any solutions, and he took my requirements vs preferences into balanced consideration. I appreciated that he would pause and think things through as needed, to make sure he always understood what I was asking about/for. He proposed a Mitsubishi mini-split inverter heat pump, which is a small but high performance unit that qualifies for a $2000 federal tax credit. I had talked to multiple contractors, and Velasco's bid was price-competitive while still using top-of-the-line equipment that he had experience with. (Angel also informally thought through how we could revamp the upstairs heating later on, with zero sales pressure.) When it came time to schedule the work, Angel communicated proactively. He kept me apprised of supply chain issues and adapted the work to get it done promptly even though he had to spread it out over two days due to last minute equipment issues. (When he went to purchase the equipment, he saw some surface damage to the outdoor unit and opted to wait for a new one to arrive.) When he worked in my house, Angel was friendly and considerate of my space (and the kids and pup within it). Before doing any drilling/cutting/attaching, he reviewed all his cosmetic choices with me for how any pipes/hoses would get routed. Angel cares about aesthetics in addition to functionality, so the end result looked excellent. At the end of the installation, he guided me through how to operate my new system, and how I can maintain it on my own at zero expense (though I can always text him with questions). He under promised and over delivered. During some of the coldest days in the Bay Area he worked to source parts and come back to install them quickly knowing we were freezing. When my older furnace stopped working, Angel made time to come out and look at it the same day. Unfortunately, the heat exchanger was done and the whole unit needed to be replaced, but Angel was able to come back a couple days later and install the new furnace (before I could even have gotten several other companies out to look at it). Not only did he do a great job and leave the place clean, he improved the exterior venting with a nicer penetration, did some extra weatherproofing, and even installed a new lightbulb in my crawlspace. I'll gladly add my 5 stars to everyone else's. We accidentally cut and removed the wire between the heater and the thermostat (smacking myself on the forehead), thinking it was for something else we no longer used, and spent a very cold night in our poorly insulated home. Angel came out the next day and replaced and rethreaded the wire from the garage up through the house, setting it up neatly/less obtrusively and connecting it so we no longer need to use batteries in the thermostat. He also shared useful information for operating and maintaining the system. Cost was entirely reasonable. When I called another place to get a quote, even they were like, yup, sounds like what we would do, and for less, lol.
