I woke up thinking about this drink and I had to write a review. I had their rose water lemon drop martini and it was absolute perfection! I work at a resort in Scottsdale and we desperately need this on the menu! Not only was it gorgeous, but it tasted incredible. Everyone loves a classic lemon drop, but the rose water brings so much elevation and sophistication to the glass. It's perfectly floral without tasting like perfume or a cleaning product. The food is great. The hummus was yummy and the pita bread was fantastic. My falafel pita was delicious! Next time though, I will skip cocktails. Both of ours were very sweet and not worth $14 in a city where it's easy to get a good cocktail. Service also needs some work. My party of two was given one menu initially. Our lunch took a really long time and it was not clear why. Our server seemed really busy with other tables even though there weren't that many other people there. Wow. The place looks amazing after taking over the local pho place. Super clean, inviting and great for large groups. The baba ganouj, dear science, is the best I've ever had in Phoenix. Perfectly smoky, light and umptious! The dolmas!, omgee, divine in all of their glory. The mini pitas with the baba were perfectly done. Hubby and I were so excited to try this place, which I drive by every day. Been waiting awhile for a new restaurant... there was a long period of time between Basilic and East Bite. Unfortunately, we were a little disappointed. The platters (around $30 but filled with lots of varieties of meat and veggies) looked so good, but we didn't want that much food. So, each of us ordered a pita sandwich... one was gyro and the other seasoned beef. The color and variety of the platters did not carry through to our plates. Besides a bit of sauce on the meat, there were no colorful sides... there should, I believe, in a place like this, a few cucumber, tomato, onion, etc. items on the sandwich or as an attractive garnish. As for sides, it seems like french fries are pretty much the only hot side. I hope that more sides are available soon... fries don't even belong in a healthy, fresh Mediterranean menu. We could have used just a bit more meat in our pitas, too. The cocktail I ordered was very slow in coming (as was the food), and there were only about 5 other people in the restaurant. I could tell that the bartender had probably never made a mojito before... and there just seemed to be an aura of inexperience amongst everyone there. Yeah, I know it was the first week of business, but everyone seemed like they haven't been in the food business for very long. Thank goodness they had a "soft opening", because things were just not as great as they could be. I hope to visit again and experience some improvement. We need a restaurant with this type of light, fresh Mediterranean food. By the way, the name of the place is terrible... it's not descriptive of the theme and the type of cuisine. I am so sad, because I am still driving by every day, and there just aren't many customers there. Maybe deliver discount coupons in the nearby neighborhoods? We stopped in for a few appetizers and drinks before heading to the art museum across the street. We also wanted to try the new place in the area. And are glad we did! If you want great, fresh, Mederterrainian food, or some delicious cocktails, in a low-key atmosphere, East Bite is the place for you. Our waiter was the bartender Joe and he was very friendly and attentive, explaining the place's concept, and food and drink options, with much enthusiasm. (We also met some of the family whose place it is, including I think the owner.) All three appetizers were so good and, again, so fresh. Standbys of hummus and dolma were all expertly prepared, with the pita for the hummus piping hot and with a small char (the best). We also got something I'd never seen before--Batinjania. Eggplant fried with onions and peppers in a delicious sweet/spicy sauce. Out of sight! One of us even had Joe's take on an old fashioned, which was inventive and delicious (even the ice cube had flavor). We will definitely be back soon for a full feast. Give them a try for delicious, fresh Mederterrainian food or a visit to the bar. Or both! read more
