I used to live in the middle east, so my standards are set to what I am used to there when it comes to "Middle Eastern food". East Bite sits almost on top of McDowell with a small parking lot just east. Inside the bar is a thin line with an open kitchen right behind it. We were the only ones there at 7:30pm on a Wednesday, so despite the high reviews, I was skeptical. Our sever had a dry sense of humor and told us he worked there because he liked the food, and apologized for giving a comically large orange slice as a blue moon garnish. His disarming nature made me appreciate the restaurant more. The lentil soup was a perfect consistency - thick but still in the soup realm and with lots of flavor. The hummus was light and had great taste, and came with well made pita that I probably ate too much of. For mains, we got the beef kebab pita and chicken schwarma pita. This was where I felt at home. The food is great. The hummus was yummy and the pita bread was fantastic. My falafel pita was delicious! Next time though, I will skip cocktails. Both of ours were very sweet and not worth $14 in a city where it's easy to get a good cocktail. Service also needs some work. My party of two was given one menu initially. Our lunch took a really long time and it was not clear why. Our server seemed really busy with other tables even though there weren't that many other people there. I woke up thinking about this drink and I had to write a review. I had their rose water lemon drop martini and it was absolute perfection! I work at a resort in Scottsdale and we desperately need this on the menu! Not only was it gorgeous, but it tasted incredible. Everyone loves a classic lemon drop, but the rose water brings so much elevation and sophistication to the glass. It's perfectly floral without tasting like perfume or a cleaning product. Wow. The place looks amazing after taking over the local pho place. Super clean, inviting and great for large groups. The baba ganouj, dear science, is the best I've ever had in Phoenix. Perfectly smoky, light and umptious! The dolmas!, omgee, divine in all of their glory. The mini pitas with the baba were perfectly done. We came somewhat early just as they were opening the location for the day. The atmosphere was retro with a good feel. Service was quick and our drinks almost appeared on the table after ordering. We ordered the appetizer plate which came out quickly and was filled with a good selection. We were somewhat surprised that there was no real lunch menu, only the regular dinner menu u. The portions were huge, way too much for lunch. You can easily split one item two or even three ways. I personally did not order anything just shared from the appetizer plate and the other two "dinners". Cost wise it was a little steep for a Tuesday afternoon lunch coming in at over $90 for an appetizer, gyro meat plate and one other. We also had two sodas and a tea.
