My friend and I pick a new restaurant every first Friday of the month and today we chose this place. Now let me tell you, I haven't had such a life changing experience since my gay awakening. The food was so amazing I actually had a moment where I asked myself if I should be praying over this food right now. Now I've never had a Michelin star chefs food before but I knew the moment I tasted this food, this had to be the real deal and wouldn't ya know, the man IS a Michelin star chef! Period! Jessa was an absolute super star of a waitress too. She even said the moment we sat down, if you don't know what to order, just order. Everything is amazing. I'll tell you right now she made a BOLD statement like that and by golly did she not lie. In fact she UNDER sold it if anything. I tried their saffron rice, Mac and cheese, hummus breakfast and kefta kabob and each one was extremely well made and tasted great. Found out this humble man is a Michelin chef! I really didnt know what to expect from Urban Fraiche, menu looked interesting, definitely not the same old, same old! What Gem! Service, ambience, cuisine, all top notch, staff were incredible, knowledgeable, fun and easy going. A bottle of French sparkling was to start, maybe a few others :) It was at lunch, but they had a good crowd, salads to start, we shared a delicious watermelon salad and beet salad, the a mix of entrees from braised baby goat, rack of lamb, lobster omelette and more, all were well presented and yummy. How about their awesome Turkish coffee to finish up with desserts,that will put some hair on your chest :) Desserts were served, crème brûlée, apple tart, and baklava was shared with all! What a fun restaurant to visit! Lovely outdoor space and interesting Egyptian themed indoor space. The chef and owner, Din Waziry, has been all over the world as a chef for Marriott and has great stories to tell. He and his wife and partner Hibba decided to settle down in Phoenix and opened this restaurant which serves Mediterranean themed meals and also some classic Egyptian dishes. There is a good bar and also sheesha outside if you want it. And belly dancing at night. A fun evening out. And a nice place to ho just for a drink. read more

This is one of those places where you go to for the sheer ambiance of the place. It features a vibrant garden and piquant furniture. Even the bathroom has a unique interior design to it. Overall, it's just an aesthetically pleasing area. Service was pretty lackadaisical. I tried out a beet salad, ribeye kabab, and rice pudding. Wow! We have been to this location before when it was a different restaurant, but the renovations and the patio are incredible! So beautiful! It was restaurant week when we visited! So, of course, we ordered from that menu! I had the beet salad, the kefta, and the baklava and a coconut drink. The beet salad was great except I didn't like eating the stems of the watercress. Just seemed a little tough to eat. Kefta was wonderful and I loved the hummus too. The baklava was very tasty and a work of art! Presentations on all items were spectacular! Came here for restaurant week and bc they're part of the resy/amex benefit. The space is very eclectic with their decor and dining ware, which was super cool. The woman serving us was very nice but also a bit slow- there was a table seated 45 min after us and was served their food at the same time as us and they also ordered from the restaurant week menu. The belly dancer was fun but nothing too spectacular. The lobster bisque only had a few chunks of lobster, but I enjoyed the flavor- croutons or a baguette would've improved the dish. I ordered the Egyptian dish, and I have to agree with another reviewer that it was ok. While the tomato sauce was good, it could've been spicier. My husband ordered the lamb which he enjoyed- the hummus was creamy, but a bit salty. The pita bread was a little burnt, but very fluffy; we'd never had pita bread like that. The baklava was a bit small and while I appreciated it not being too sweet, my husband wanted more sweet. The rice pudding surprised me- it didn't have rice pieces and was more of a yogurt consistency, again also not too sweet; I would've liked more mango pieces. My bf and I were so excited to try this place and saw the high yelp rating. But I was left unhappy and unsatisfied. The vibes, the pictures of food, and the sound of all these healthy, seasonal food are incorporated in the food sounds great. But what we got was not to our liking at all. No complaint for service and we still tip even though we really didn't like it. Lamb chop with saffron rice: I was excited for this dish but something just tastes different or "off" to me. It was slightly gaming but I didn't mind that, but the flavors used just throws me off. It's probably because I wasn't familiar with the new flavor. There was also a blueberry sauce and blueberries to go with the lamb too. As for the rice, I was expecting savory saffron flavor rice. Yet, it was sweet because they added pineapple. So the rice was sweet instead of savory. 12oz ribeye - I think this dish suppose to come with fries but we didn't get fries. The steak had a lot of fat instead of a good quality meat. Visited during Restaurant Week, May 2026. The new owners have done a spectacular job of giving this restaurant a new vibe with a Mediterranean ambiance. We had reservations for nine so we were seated upstairs. Our waitress was excellent and her service was perfect. Drinks and food all arrived quickly. The owner/chef came up to check on us twice to make sure that everything was running smoothly, which it was. I had the lobster bisque, the steak kabob and the rice pudding. Each dish was served and plated with care. It's the little things that can make the difference. The flavors were great and the whole experience was a delight. Parking is usually available in the parking lot unless it is a busy night. You should definitely try this place. read more

This is a cool restaurant with ample patio space almost like a courtyard. The restaurant is Mediterranean/Egyptian themed and the music and belly dancer entertainer fit the atmosphere. Staff is friendly but they forgot to bring a takeout box and check when requested and we waited an additional 10 minutes before leaving. The soups are quite large portions. We had both the carrot and lentil soup which are quite tasty. The carrot soup is slightly sweet. The Octopus appetizer is very well done and delicious. The Kashari is quite large and becomes monotonous. I would enjoy this more as a side dish and split it between the group. read more

My new favorite Mediterranean spot in Phoenix. Such a gem!! We got the hummus platter and each split a kabob. She got the steak. It was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I got the chicken marinated and it was perfect. 10/19 Service was wonderful 10/10, staff even walked us and showed us the whole restaurant Ambiance was beautifully decorated. This is easily making our list of favorite spots. And not just around PHX... ever. Trust me, just go. They use ZERO seed oils or added sugar, and the entire place is farm to table (like they have their own lambs raised) We basically built our own tasting menu between the appetizers and everything was 10/10. Will def be back to try the entrees! Which aren't the cheapest but... based on the appetizers, I'd say it's worth it . What an entertaining dinning experience! First, this restaurant has so many interesting decors - overwhelming but fun. They also have belly dance performance a few times a week, which creates a wholesome dinning experience. Then the food. As you can see in the photos, a lot of things were going on in one plate. But surprisingly, they all went well together. The octopus had a strong charcoal smell but not overcooked. The watermelon salad was refreshing and nutty. The goat curry was so rich, tender, and not gamey at all. Their deserts were good too. Especially the rice pudding, creamy and flavorful. Didn't know what to expect seeing Urban Fraiche on Resy but it blew us away with their food quality and hospitality. Entering the restaurant it feels like you're walking through an open air market on the Nile. The decor is very eccentric with lots of Egyptian theming throughout. You sure don't feel like you're in Phoenix anymore! We got the watermelon salad, grilled octopus, curry goat and ended the meal with baklava and Syrian rice pudding. Everything was delicious and you can tell their use of local produce here as they let the natural flavors shine. My favorites were the grilled octopus charred perfectly with an array of sauces on the plate with pear and mango. It looked crazy but it was one of my favorite renditions of the dish. Curried goat was fork tender and you could tell the quality of ingredients in the cous cous with raisins and nuts. Syrian rice pudding is a must order for dessert as I loved that combo of not to sweet rice pudding balanced with I believe rose, mango and hazelnuts. The owner himself is a whirlwind of energy finishing plates and introducing himself through the dining room. We got to take some photos with him at the end with Cleo's tiara and a King Tut hat. He's a hoot and an absolute joy to be around. It was hilarious hearing his stories and how he found some of his furniture pieces and artifact replicas in his dining room. He even has a life size replica of King Tuts throne if you wanna sit there. Also has a furniture and antique store nearby that sells some of the pieces he's found. This restaurant really feels like an extension of himself and his pride of Egypt. Service was excellent and they even have belly dancing Thursday - Sunday. It has an Egyptian theme as you walk through the entrance then turns into Mediterranean as you walk into the main dining room and the outside patio was eclectic hippy vibe. We were greeted with a smile and enthusiasm then seated right away. They use all natural ingredients and NO SEED OILS! It's hard to find a place like this. The appetizers and entrees were excellent. If you want to fall in love with the IDEA of a restaurant, this is your place. If you want to fall in love with an ACTUAL restaurant, this is definitely not your place. We went there before a show and allowed almost two hours to make sure we were not rushed. We told them this from the start, and yet, we still had to rush out before we were finished. Alas, if only this were the real problem here. My wife ordered hibiscus tea to start. When it was delivered it was dark and strong, When we asked the waiter about it he simply chuckled and said "yeah that's definitely black tea, not hibiscus". All I could think was, "it's a good thing my wife doesn't have a caffeine aversion." Next course was a beet salad which came out loaded with blueberries and strawberris (which neither of us recalled seeing in the description).....and literally zero beets. I asked where the beets were and within a couple seconds, a chef came whipping out of the kitchen mumbling something that, I suppose, could have been English, and returned shortly with the same plate except now with beets. Whether intentional or not, the berries had no business on the same plate with these beets. Next we ordered grilled octopus, which we normally love. It came out tough and again inexplicably slathered in fruit - mango in this case - which would itself have killed the eating experience had the octopus not already been killed by leather-like toughness as a result of preparation errors. We ordered prawns next and, sadly, they proved an equal match for the toughness of the octopus but, mercifully, were served without fruit....but unfortunately also without much flavor: they were simply thrown on top of bed of linguini in a thin red sauce. The concept of this place, the location, the quirky interior and general vibe give this place some potential but the execution is way, way off and needs to improve soon if this place is going to make it. read more

I came back here and l brought my family, and the food wasn't as good as my first experience. (First time Nov 28, 2nd time Feb 21) I would not recommend the lobster bisque soup (not flavorful, bland/burnt taste), the lobster ravioli (open face, soup style- I didn't find it that great and very little lobster ), the "Egypt's National Dish "Koshari" - very bland, spicy sauce was not spicy- this was my fault for ordering something "unique"but this was rice, noodles, beans, and crispy onions. I didn't let the server know since this is what I ordered. The dessert, crème brûlée with fruit was REALLY good!! Emory was a great server, he did an outstanding job! However I had to remind him of the neat Jewelry for special occasions (we were celebrating a birthday) . My aunt steak was supposed to be cooked medium rare, and it came out well done, and therefore she didn't get to eat with us... I feel this should have been discounted or taken off the bill. I may have had too high expectations after my first visit, but overall it was still a great experience. The ambiance and belly dancer was great! And loved this as much as the first time! read more

This is for the person(s) looking for an experience. It's also great for those who have interest in organic, or seasonal or local, types of foods. While it is healthy within reason, I would say that for health nuts its a splurge date night and worth going. Very good food, priced according to a reasonable fresh ingredient and clean menu. We tried two cocktails. Both were average mixture of ingredients but did provide a light pallet for booze. I cannot confirm or deny that the bartender at the time is good or bad. I would need to order something more basic than the two we selected to know if they can mix. Just know that the drinks didn't add to the moment except for the single glass of wine I asked went well with my lamb chop app. The main focus here are the dishes. So if you want to have alcohol just order a glass of the wine. It will go straight to the dome. Presentation of food was abstract but fun. Our server was well spoken and made effort to showcase the parts of the menu we had special interest in. I cannot remember his name but we did go on a Friday evening around 5:30. I like what is happening there since the previous restaurant left. I also loved that time of occupancy as well. It is NOT the same vibe so do not come back expecting that if you are a local. The only nostalgia you will feel is using the official front entrance as now it is wild with plants, flowers and new life! A couple of things I would recommend needed work was the strange wait when we entered. The acknowledgement took quite some time and I felt awkward just standing to be seen for a seat. There were people in the kitchen but they didn't press staff standing that we arrived. This is something that can be trained and I am happy at the end we stayed and someone came to seat us.
