Head over heels for this Mediterranean spot. My friends and I visited to grab a bite for lunch while visiting Phoenix. While this business might go unnoticed from the outside, on the inside they're serving up some of the best Mediterranean food I've ever tasted. To kick off the meal, we ordered a plate of hummus to share. I can easily say that they make the best pita I've ever had. It was light, fluffy, yet thick and so good for dipping. We had to order an additional side of pita because it was gone so quick. For an entree I ordered the falafel sandwich. This gyro was stuffed with all the best ingredients, including a creamy garlic sauce and crispy chunks of falafel. The only thing that is stopping me from visiting tonight is an 8-hour drive. We have a WINNER! Definitely a best in class award for ethnic/regional eateries tucked away in neighborhood strip malls! We were in the area and chose My Spot after a short Yelp search and the desire to try something out of our tired old go-to list. What do I know about Israeli/Mediterranean sandwich shops? Something less than nothing. Which in itself is always a good reason to try someplace new. But, it doesn't help with crafting an adequate review!! The handwritten sign in the front window said the Wednesday only special was Turkey shawarma. Okay! I was looking for shawarma and what's not to like about the special of the day. It was awesome. I go pita over wrap and opt for all the good stuff. Onions, red cabbage, cucumber, spice, and whatever except for pickle. Pickles on shawarma, who knew? I still don't. I tried the three side sauces, tahini, sweet chili, and hummus. I love hummus, but this one was a bit too bitter for my tastes. The other two were awesome accents to an even more awesome pita shawarma sandwich!!! And TURKEY? I'm sold on it. But, I want to go back and explore the rest of the menu. My wife had the 'baby chicken' street tacos. Every bit the savory Mediterranean chicken preparation with onion, cucumber, etc. she loved them. The young men running this delightful shop were authentically cordial and made us strangers feel welcome and at home. All-in-all a real neighborhood treasure in this corner of Phoenix. Not celiac friendly. I was eager to try this because of all the comments about good gluten free food. I appreciate the honesty of both the hostess and the waiter on their free of gluten foods. Got the chicken salad and falafel wrap with fries. Food is generally tasty and well seasoned. Fries were super oily but not crispy, perhaps that is the Mediterranean style. Food is quite expensive - the chicken salad was $20 and the wrap (a little dry) was $15. Service was kind and someone checked on us regularly. Inside is pretty cold, great for a hot summer day. My Spot Mediterranean Grill is a very CASUAL Kosher Israeli style restaurant located in north Phoenix in the same spot as Cafe Chenar used to be. The restaurant offers things like shawarma, schnitzel, skewers, falafels, salads, platters and burgers. Prices do run higher because kosher meat cost twice as much as non kosher meats. Kosher beef is only the front part of the cow and the rest is sold to others. This is an extra casual restaurant. You order and pay at the counter and grab your silverware yourself and seat yourself. We tried a variety of things. We started out with the hummus and falafels. The hummus is good and creamy and taste like it was made with toasted cumin. The falafels did have crisp exteriors and are moist and herby inside. This also came with choice of bread and I picked the pitas. The pitas are VERY GOOD......Maybe among the best you can get anywhere. They are fresh made and fluffy. I tried the beef lola on laffa bread that comes with fries......THIS WAS FIVE STARS DELICIOUS...........THE FLAVORS ROCK on this one and it was spicy too!. Get it with everything it comes with. Trust me. This is really great and you will understand the difference between kosher beef and regular ground beef. They taste different. Kosher beef has this clean beefy taste and it was very moist and very flavorful. This one is also large like a BIG BURRITO......For some people this might be two meals. My husband tried the spicy chicken schnitzel platter. It came with fries and Israeli salad. The chicken was moist and nicely seasoned. It was breaded and fried but didn't seem oily. Fries are very average. You have vinegar on the table to season them. Israeli salad needed vinegar too. Remember this is a kosher restaurant so that means they don't mix meat and dairy. That means if you order a burger it will be cooked well done and cheese isn't an option. read more

I am sick today and the only thing that sounded yummy was falafel and hummus so my husband was kind enough to pick me up food from this place! They are a little expensive but good stuff and I got a really good amount of food. Pickup was easy for my husband and food was ready fast. I got the hummus and falafel with tahini and two pita. It was all really flavorful. Pita was pillowy soft, hummus was creamy, and falafel was nice and crispy! I happened to be in the area and was looking for the old Thai place that used to be in this strip center. It must have closed down. I saw this place and decided to give it a try. I got the hummus and falafel plate. I got it with the two pitas. I ordered and it came right out. It was very good. I think it was one of the best falafels I have ever had. I've noticed that in a lot of other states when there's only one real Israeli restaurant the quality usually isn't that great because they don't have competition and Israelis will go there anyway for their cravings; but this is not the case here. It's a must go! Super friendly staff, looks like a family runs the biz. It's a tiny different than most Mediterranean restaurant food, so I had lots of questions, our waiter was so helpful. Their falafel is green, not seen that before but it's colored by parsley and cilantro, it was one of the best falafel I've ever eaten. The sauces were delicious, especially when I mixed a little of their green pepper sauce in. You must try their "spicy" fries, they are super flavorful and crispy, not spicy hot. The regular fries needed to be fried a bit longer. We also had the chicken shawarma and chicken schnitzel, because I LOVE fried chicken. We both liked them.
