OMG, I wish I would have read the reviews first. Normally I do but I was dealing with health issues and didn't take the time. HORRIBLE service, I've had to call them back because their original treatment didn't work, they came on a day it rained, they missed parts of my lawn (on camera), and on the third service they burned my lawn. They swear it is drought related. There are sections that look like straw, but they insist it's drought. The cheaper price isn't worth it. You're just throwing money away. My lawn looks worst than it did before their service. Customer service sucks too. read more

The service has been inconsistent for many months with the backyard being skipped entirely. I see weeds for months even though the service says weed control has been applied. Last time I paid for aeration and overseeding but it appears that was not applied well. Quality of service has dropped considerably. read more

We did not renew our contract with them for 2026 because the lawn did not improve in 2025, but they came out to service anyway. I sent them away and called the office. Absolutely terrible customer service and results. This company does the bare minimum. It has skipped huge sections of our lawn, and the technician is not very thorough half the time on the video I can tell that they're not even looking at the lawn. I've brought this up to the company and sent them the videos and they feel that it's very reasonable for a technician to cover 1/3 acre lot in four minutes. They came back at me and said that the technician was actually at the house for eight minutes, but that included doing the paperwork. There is no way someone could cover the lawn with any kind of care in that amount of time. The customer service didn't seem to care about keeping me as a customer, which is fine because we got terrible results from their lawn treatments this year. They tried to charge for every additional service. They push the additional services hard, but they don't seem to care about doing a good job with the regular services they provide. Their prices for aerating the grass and overseeding through the roof. We had it done for literally half the price of what they were asking. They have come out in the rain when it's clear that whatever they were putting on the lawn would be washed away. They only give you one day notice that they are coming so if you're not prepared, you're out of luck. I would NEVER recommend this business to a friend. I cancelled my services with them because I found another company which suited me better. I paid my whole year of service up front in a bill payment. Yet, 2 months after cancelling I received a bill for $57. I called and left 2 messages asking for them to call me back, because there must have been a mix up. I never got a call back. Instead, I got another bill for $57, except this time it had been sent to collections. They never once tried to reach me to settle the issue before sending it to collections. Deplorable service. I don't know where to begin. I guess I should just share the facts about my experience on this day (October 1, 2020) Joe (tech) - arrived at my home to apply scheduled weed control. He services my lawn all season (6 previous applications). During his visit today, he was dismissive. He was very condescending when I asked about his application process. I wondered why he ran during the application process and didn't seem to cover all areas of my lawn with the same amount of product. There was a lot of back and forth about how rushed the job was. He kept restating how some areas had one amount of product, and other areas had another. He kept pointing to small pellets that were unevenly distributed on the lawn. Joe lacked professionalism and the proper customer service skills that should be extended to every customer. I contacted the office, and within an hour and a half, Andy, a manager, showed up at my home to discuss the matter. I explained what I was seeing, and he said he would have done the job differently but understands every technician is different. I asked him to explain why Joe reacted to me in the way he did, and he said he didn't know; he wasn't here, and maybe Joe needs to grow up. Andy started professional and then took a sharp turn when I refused to email the video I took when Joe was on my property. I showed him parts of the video, and when he didn't seem satisfied by what he saw on the video, he demanded that I email it to him. He said he didn't want to stand around all day watching a video. I told him I wanted to make sure I wanted the footage released. He said he would apply the more fertilizer if that is what my issue was. He asked again if I would send the video, and I said I wasn't sure if it needed to be emailed to them or posted on social media. He said I was completely unreasonable; he would close my account and leave the property without doing anything about the issues I brought to his attention. I told him I was not satisfied with the uneven distribution of products on my lawn and that it didn't make sense that some areas had a certain amount and other areas were bare. Before he left, he begrudgingly added the additional product on my lawn. THIS IS WHERE IS ALL WENT WRONG: While applying the additional product, I asked Andy if he thought the type of treatment I was receiving from the company had to do with the fact that I am African-American living in a community of color. That is when he said, "What do you think?" I said, "I don't know you, Andy, that is why I am asking the question." He replied with, "shut the f%*@ up." He called me an idiot and told me that he would close my account, and I was not supposed to contact the company again. I can't understand how asking a question about race and if the treatment I received was racially motivated, could warrant such an ALARMING response from Andy (Manager at East Coast Lawn)! If he felt it had nothing to do with it, then why did he resort to profanity? Why did he fly off the handle? His ill-temper was totally uncalled for and out of line. As I reflect on my negative experience, I want to clarify that I want to assist East Coast Lawn and offer them the opportunity to turn this into a teachable moment. When people think they are being treated differently because of race or ethnicity, you cannot start telling them to shut up. They should lean into a courageous conversation, apologize for the inappropriate engagement, and dismiss the idea that race is at play. When individuals react in a volatile manner, I can't help but wonder if racism or bigotry is at play. When people think they can speak to anyone in a way, be disrespectful or rude, ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS, you won't get my business. Or the business of anyone that will hear my first-hand experience with your company and choose to go with a company that respects customers who want an even distribution of product applied to their lawn. read more

Predatory Business Model!!! Stay Away. I prepaid for three services, which was all the work I ever wanted them to do. They then showed up and performed services that I didn't ask for and billed me for them. I didn't understand why I was getting a bill and asked. The response I got from East Coast Lawn is that I owed them money and I should ask their collections agency my questions. Confused I paid the bill and East Coast Lawn showed up again and performed services I didn't ask for. As it turns out, if you hire them for anything, they operate on the assumption that you need to cancel their service or they will keep on performing unrequested work. They said they sent me an email stating that they will just continue servicing my property, which I was unable to find in my Inbox. I did find marketing messages that ended up in my spam folder. They will randomly show up on your property to perform work, then will send you bills, if you don't pay you have to talk to their collections agency. You have to reach out to them to cancel "service" proactively even if you prepaid for something specific and only agreed to pay for those specific services. East Coast Lawn has a predatory business model. They make money by doing work you didn't ask for and then demand payment. I would not recommend doing business with them ever. read more

This killed my lawn in multiple spots (see pictures). When I raised this with the company, they told me it was my fault and wouldn't try to rectify the problem. Worst. Company. Ever. read more

This was the first time in 30+ years I used a weed & feed lawn service. Their price was good and what they offered seemed reasonable. I have to say, they delivered exactly as promised. When I had a question and left a message, they replied within hours. I added atheir aeration and over-seeding services this fall and their seed has filled in bald spots left from tree cutting and Verizon digging. The grass looks really good. East Coast Lawn has been providing care for my lawn since early spring this year. Pre-emergence weed killer was applied and later a crabgrass killer was applied. The last application was June 18. I noticed there was a good bit of crabgrass coming up in the yard with a ring around my flower beds. I called and a deck came out. The gentleman who spoke with me said he had worked there for quite a number of years, so I trusted him. This is what he wrote on his assessment, "It seems to me the pre-emergent bomer that we put down earlier I the year has totally broke down leading to tons of crabgrass/Japanese silt grass coming up. I will take with Mike to see what we can do to rescue the problem." He told me his suggestion would be to try to wipe out the crabgrass and then in September aerate and seed heavily. Mike, it seemed had a different plan. He said just leave it alone and then aerate and seed in the fall. I had already paid $52.50 each time they came out for no result...And he wanted me to wait until fall to have anywhere near a weed free lawn. There was no apology, no trying to make it better, he did, however, try to blame it on me and my care of the lawn. I did resent that. I would never go there, nor would I recommend them to anyone I know. The tech was very nice and polite. Mike, however could use a few lessons on how to deal with a customer. They took 21 pictures to show what had happened with the lawn...One would think that would have spoken volumes. I have used this company for 4 years. They restored my old crab-grass weedy lawn to showplace condition. The owner, Mike, has been responsive to email and phone inquiries. Coordination on timing of fall aeration and overseeding is needed so I can mow the lawn before seed is applied so we have best conditions for germination. Their responsiveness to issues has been good. For example, they overseeded on the day of a gully-washer rain, and reapplied more seed. Mike (owner) also appropriately handled a complaint about a tech who required more training. Overall, I feel we get good service for the cost, and much better than those big guys that blow treatment spray with a truck in 5 minutes. read more

We hired ECL to provide a spring fertilization and weed control. They are more expensive than many of the other firms in VA and are not worth the money or unprofessionalism! We called after second visit to address our front yard with burns around the weeds. Round-up would be the culprit. "Mike" called me back and didn't like that he needed to be a business owner first and continued using the "F" word and a myriad of other insults instead of resolving our lawn dissatisfaction. Last year, we won "yard of the month". Would not waste time with a company not accredited with BBB. A company that can't afford a receptionist? Red flag! Hard lesson learned!!!! read more

These people are happy to take your money as long as they don't have to deal with you. For us, they came regularly and dumped fertilizer and weed killer, but would not return our phone calls when we tried to reach them. We paid in advance for a year's worth of service but they came even after the year was over and charged us for an application that we think should not have been made. I used them for several years and while the service standards of the company went downhill so did the looks of my yard. By August my yard looked like a jungle - mostly weeds and little grass. I called multiple times and was never able to speak to anyone who knew anything. In addition we had a problem with the billing process. If you are looking for a TRUSTWORTHY lawn service that will get the job done year after year, look elsewhere. Things started fine but eventually turned sour. We saw some improvement in the first couple of years, but starting last year it seemed like the treatments had stopped being fully effective. (Now I wonder if we were even getting all that we had paid for.) A weed cropped up and spread even after several visits. After a few complaints, East Coast tried to blame it on me (for not calling sooner, for letting someone else do aeration and seeding) but eventually they killed the weed. I guess Carlos doused it with Agent Orange because nothing has grown in those spots in more than a year -- even though he breezily assured me the grass would fill in. Things came to an head this year when I pick up a late afternoon voicemail from Carlos saying that unless I immediately opt out of a service I did not request, he would apply it the next day. Whaaa? My return message conveyed my displeasure. The next day Carlos comes by and leaves an invoice and a lawn sign. When I check my camera to see if he had latched the gate, no sign of Carlos having been in, out, or anywhere near the back yard. I called for an apology, do-over, or an explanation. All I get is a call back from Carlos who offers none of those things. Last straw. We are done. read more

This is not a reputable service. We did not renew our service after we concluded that the service was poor. The company continued to treat without authorization and then billed us. After we told them that was unauthorized, they continued to bill us and then sent a collections service after us. These are unacceptable business practices, and it appears that there are others with similar experiences. read more
