Wow! Just spent $32 on ambiance! Because the pizza sucks! Thin crust...more like oragami's with thin swoop of sauce, a little cheese and maybe a mushroom or piece of kale. I paid $22 for a pizza that was mostly bread...when you get half way down the pizza it's all crust!!! They should offer a side of sauce for the crust ends. Sure it's cool inside and you see hipsters sipping their drinks...but I don't give a rats ass about ambiance when I am in the mood for a yummy pizza. If I want thin pizza that is filling without all the fluff and at a reasonable price I will head over to Lanesplitters in Oakland. don't waste your $ here if you have an appetite and want to drown your taste buds in sauce, cheese and toppings- sad when there are not a lot of places in Alameda for good pizza. On my first visit to this restaurant, I tried the Vermicelli a la Carbonara. Perhaps it was just an off-da, but the dish tasted very salty. There is a curbside parking for pick-up orders which was very nice and convenient. The employees were very nice. read more

Food: We had oysters for appetizer (they get new oysters in every other day and were voted "best oysters in alameda") which were delicious and three types of pizza - Cornado (corn, jalapeño, and tomato - not spicy, very light and fresh), Diablita (pepperoni, goat cheese, chili, garlic - was tasty, but warning spicy! Goat cheese was nice though), and Meateor (pepperoni, sausage, bacon - nice meat blend, but because of all the oil/juices was a little hard to eat. Could use a little more bacon). Overall delicious, but pricey for pizza. Drink: Craft cocktails are my weakness so I loved their selection (which I think changes seasonally along with their menu). Had the Apricot in Damascus - not too sweet but a nice apricot flavor. Atmosphere: It's a small place so you may be sharing a table, but it was very comfortable. Service: Our server was super helpful and friendly! In a nutshell: food tastes good and you'll have a good experience, but it feels just a little expensive for pizza. First bad sign: ordered a sidecar and bartender asked what's in it. That's a pretty basic bar drink, was surprised that he's so inexperienced. Second bad sign: waiter does not know his cheeses. We had a pregnant woman in the group and cannot have unpasteurized soft cheeses, and the waiter had no idea on what was a soft or hard cheese or whether it was pasteurized. Had to run back and check with owner each time. The pizzas and pasta were all on the low flavor spectrum. The vermicelli was very bland. I've been here when it was located inside the market and it seemed much better than it was today. I didn't eat there. My friend and I stood there for ten minutes right in front of them and nobody said, "May I help you?" No eye contact. There were 3-4 people working inside about 6-10 ft away. Finally I said, "Hello!" with a smile, and all he/she said was "it's 1.5 hour wait." Why not tell us that while we were standing? "Hi how are you guys doing? I hate to tell you, but it's a long wait for pizza today..." I choose to go eat at other places where I get better customer service. The food here is pretty good, but a bit pricey. I'm giving one star for the simple fact that our waiter tricked us into paying for still water and then acted like we should have known we could have gotten tap water. It really was the principle of the matter. I don't care that the water was $3 and I completely understand the state is in a drought. If he said from the beginning that they charge for water because of the drought, that would have been all I needed to hear. Instead he brought a bottle of water, slowly poured it, and then 2 min later I asked why we didn't get tap water, and he said "well I poured it slowly waiting to see if you'd say something." Craved Pizza last Sunday and very few places open, so we chose East End for pick-up! EPIC FAIL! Ordered via phone ahead of time and had to wait upon arrival. The 14" Meateor Pizza was sparse with toppings. We were able to identify one small piece of bacon, a few pepperoni, and we did not see or taste cheese. The thin pizza crust tasted like oiled rubberized cardboard. The only positive, we did like the smell of a wood fired stove. The appetizer recommended was artichoke, one half was charred/blackened, the other half was not fully cooked and both had the heart missing; chewy lackluster and curbside Arizona cactus may have been better. This place deserves 4 stars for the fact that their pizza tastes amazing. Straight up, on the flavor alone this place is already worth checking out! There are a few minor details I wish were different, but it has no bearing on how delicious the pizza is. Just to get it out of the way, those details are that they have limited hours (they close are 7pm weekdays, 8pm weekends) which kinda stinks, but they are apart of the much larger Alameda Marketplace, and the whole thing shuts down at those times. Also, the slices are kinda small for $3 a pop imo (maybe thats the fat american in me talking) BUT please, pay both of these bratty complaints no mind- I apologize for even bringing them up (its a yelp review!) Please just focus on the fact that the pizza is delicious! Seasonal pizza, great ingedients. Reminds me of a Cheeseboard Pizza or Gioia, but this place has it's own personality. In the past we liked this place because of its pizza so we decided to try their happy hour. $1 oysters and other deals. We ordered a dozen oysters to start things off and my wife had an arugula salad. The oysters were some of the worst we had. Very salty and just didn't look very appetizing. We eat oysters quite a bit so we tend to know what good quality oysters taste like. These were not on point. Looking forward to her arugula salad my wife got her dish. She was very disappointed to see that the arugula looked old, wilted, and like it had been bought the week before. I just ordered from here for the first time. Came in and the pizza wasn't ready yet so my boyfriend and I got a drink and waited. When we finished, we asked if our pizza was ready and they brought it out. Didn't realize til we got in the car that they had handed me a COLD PIZZA. Really hungry. Pizza arrives! Basically the pizza has no cheese. I understand this is not a "regular" pizza but really only a couple of slices of cheese. The rest is a naked pizza with sauce. I don't usually complain but I have had pizza here and it was totally different. When I call the person who answers the phone starts to argue with me, this is the way we make pizza, what were you expecting, etc. I mean really argue with me like I don't understand what hipster pizza is. Stopped by for lunch the other day and picked up 2 slices: sausage and an onion/olive/mushroom. They were pretty gross and if other Yelpers consider this the best pizza in Alameda? Well, you might was to cross a bridge and head somewhere else. One was cold, the other hot (how does that work when they heat them in a oven?). Each had overly dark crusts from their initial cooking. Both had so much grease on them that a soaked 1 napkin each. I get some grease with the sausage but the veggie? I guess it was the grease that made the crusts soggy too? At first, I was a little bummed that the $3 slice was about 1/2 of what you get at somewhere like Gioia but after my first couple bites, I was ok with the fact that it was super small. I had the honor of dining here on their second day being open. The staff greeted me quickly and were very engaging. Happy to help me pick some wine since I hasn't heard of any of the vinyards (I usually take that to be a good sign!) I had the Mousetrap Pizza. It was delicious! Super thin crust. It wasn't like a neopolitan pizza either. Thin all across yet still so crispy! Their ingredients are simple and wholesome and are still full of flavour. For personal reasons, I had to jet quickly after I was served. The server was quick to get me a box. There was an issue with their Merchant so they weren't taking credit card. The owner came to chat with me and explained they were only taking cash. I was in from out of town and was cashless, but we shook hands and I agreed to return that night and settle my bill. I was very thankful that he was willing to be so flexible with me. I look forward to coming back and checking out some more of their pizza creations! read more

As I was driving home on a Sunday afternoon from Reno with my lady friend, I mentioned not wanting (read: totally complaining) to make dinner that night. I thought "Self? Where can we go to pick up something quick and easy on our way back?" Through my hungover haze, I was reminded that my "ferry friends" had suggested East End Pizza. Yay! I'll give them a quick call and order up a couple pies and voila, dinner is served. Ordered a pepperoni and a Farmer's Daughter with sausage. Parking was super easy in the lot across the street and we walked right up to the counter. The pizzas were ready and waiting, staff was friendly. All good. My son seemed to inhale the pepperoni pizza, but then gave a "Meh" review of it. He wasn't a fan of the thin crust style, but thought the sauce, etc was A-OK. The GF and I had Farmer's Daughter and ya know, I'm still on the fence about it. All of the ingredients individually sounded rad, but put together on a pizza just didn't sit well on my palette. Comparatively to other pizza shops in Alameda, this one does just fine. If you love thin crust pizzas and artisan experimentation of flavors, this place fits the bill. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Alameda! To start, their drinks are always fun, current, and interesting. Their salads are always amazing and they switch up their options pretty often. The pizza always hits the spot - it's creative, fresh and has great flavor. The crust is in between thin and medium, and has great texture. The service is always great, too. Sebastian at the bar has great energy and is always whippin' up delicious drinks. He is also very knowledgeable and fun to talk to! Every waitress we have is always quick, attentive and very helpful with the menu/recommendations. So good it's retarded! I can't believe this spot is in Alameda, I mean WTF? How can something this good be in a Organic Grocery Building, but it all makes sense. Let me start by saying that I've had some pretty bad pizza, and some pretty damn fine tasting pizza. From Brasil to Berkeley, from famed Cheeseboard to generic Domino's, I know good pizza. Well friend, if you like deep dish style with soggy crust and nasty toppings, this ain't the MF place for you. But if you dig great, and I mean great thin crust pizza with amazing ingredients then you should hunker down and pull up a chair. This is the spot where cheese is incredible, the veggies are so flavorful you will have to check your pulse to see if you dropped dead and went to Heaven! Prices are a bit high but God Damn the pizza is insanely good! This is the type of pizza that will make you give up Round Table and New York Pizza or Blondies. This is the ass kicking pizza that many have dreamed of and believe it or not it's on the island. I just ate here and I have to say, hella good pizza! I recently walked by after buying some of my usual Marketplace items and realized that I had never eaten here. A few days later, my kids were whining for pizza and I was daydreaming about sushi so I thought I would slip into the Marketplace for both. I'm so glad I did! The dudes were attentive and courteous. They made the pizza we wanted and it tasted fantastic. I don't think I've ever been able to actually taste each cheese used on a pizza. My darling rotten brats always want cheese with olives and this was the first time I've actually seen lovely, quality olives on a pizza. I was picking them off and eating them... I had to restrain myself and remember that the pizza was for the kids and that I had a sushi roll for myself. Not easy! Normally I leave behind the usual thick roll of crust from the edge but this pizza crust was thin, fresh, and just-right crispy. I ate every bit of my one slice and cruised the kids' plates for more - but there wasn't any. And did I mention how great the guys were? Yes, but it's worth saying twice. Boyfriend and I came here for our Valentines day dinner. The ambiance and the food is delicious and otherwise would have given a 4 or 5 star review, but our experience there wasn't great. We got oysters, pizza and the "impossible" burger. Everything was tasty and great until we got to the impossible burger. My boyfriend started getting an allergic reaction. His lip started swelling and he felt like his throat was closing up. He also felt nauseous and got sold sweats. I felt fine, but we were panicking and he decided to go get benadryl. Our waitress expressed concern, but didn't seem that worried. She checked up on us once or twice to see if he was ok. She said she asked around her kitchen if anyone had an experience like this and no one had, so she didn't seem that worried. My boyfriend felt better after the benadryl where his lips and throat weren't swelling anymore, but then he developed hives. The last time she came around with the bill she had a big smile on her face and "hoped we were feeling better" and handed us the full check. I understand that its not their fault that the non-FDA-approved impossible burger made my boyfriend have a allergic reaction. We paid the bill and left. There is no protocol when someone is having a physical reaction to food, but we felt unimportant and like she was going about our order like nothing happened. Don't know what to say about it really. This is a review for a lunch I had there in the middle of the week, I came in on a recommendation. I came in and was seated a bit past the regular lunchtime, so there was almost no one in the restaurant. Still, it took me flagging down a server to take my order, and she did so with the attitude she had better things to be doing. I placed my order of 2 slices of cheese pizza, a small house salad, fries and an iced tea. My order arrived and I still hadn't received my iced tea,so I flagged the bartender and finally got it. I was never offered any sweetener, I asked and received it. Nothing I had tasted good at all! The iced tea tasted old. The pizza was limp and dried out as though it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The fries-soggy and served with a weird tasting, yucky ketchup and sides of mayo. Finally the salad was some iceberg lettuce with (very) hard croutons and a vinegary dressing that I couldn't quite place. I asked the bartender for a side of chili to try to make the pizza a bit tastier because my server never once checked on me to see how I was doing, she didn't bring it so my server finally came to check on me and I asked her for the chili flakes, which she brought after my pizza had gone cold. All in all, a total letdown after this place had been recommended to me. Maybe it is better for dinner, but for the lunch I had I wouldn't come back, nor would I recommend it. I am new to Alameda and randomly came across East End while walking through the market. I love me some pizza, so I tried out the slice of the day-AMAZING. I couldn't stop,so I ordered an entire Bianca to take home for the family to try. After trying out a couple of other pizza joints in Alameda, I can definitely say it is my favorite. Yes, it is kind of expensive, but I prefer the cheese blends and toppings they use as compared to the fake crap a lot of other restaurants put on their pizzas. I'm only giving 3 stars because I've been back to their new location, and I felt a bit out of place and ignored. The servers seemed to be too busy to notice me sitting alone at the bar top. I think for the price of a beer, a slice of pizza and crappy service-I can take my butt home and make my own dinner. Basically-I liked the old location better. The briganti pizza is fantastic. This is my favorite 'go to' spot for takeout... the only problem is my inability to refrain from eating until the whole pie is gone. I don't really see what the big deal is about this place is, they do thin crust which I enjoy but not executed very well because it's very soggy & as soon as you pick up a piece of pizza it doesn't retain it shape it just flaps down. Also half of the pizzas on the menu taste exactly the same. I've never ordered a dessert that I liked: the shortcake on the strawberry shortcake is bitter, the smore is just really sweet and all of the ingredients taste the same because of how sweet it is and there's nothing in it to contrast slightly, and the cobbler is cold who wants cold cobbler with ice cream? My family has been going to East End a couple of times in 2014 and then consistently at least two to three times per month since we moved to Alameda in January 2015. I am way overdue in writing this review! We really enjoy East End's wood fired pizza, pastas, salads, desserts and drinks! The pizza crust is extremely thin and always well cooked--never soggy, but never overdone. The toppings are always seasonal and unique. There are simple "cheese" pizzas that you can add a topping or two for the "picky" toddler set. The desserts, something that often times restaurants tend to outsource, are made right there in their kitchen. They are well crafted and delicate. As much thought that is put into the amazing pizza pies is put into the desserts and drinks! It is really an enjoyable meal that we always share at East End Pizza. They get pretty busy, but reservations are taken. They do ask that you respect the arrival time, so we try and be mindful of this. It is such a relief to have a reservation rather than wait for an hour for a meal with young children. While our family is welcome here, I also see plenty of adult groups, romantic dates, and the happy hour crowd. This place has something for everyone and the wait staff has always been professional and courteous. The hostess/waitress named Chris has always been a warm and welcoming personality at this neighborhood restaurant. Try it, you won't be disappointed! read more

I fail to see how this place gets 4 stars. Our pizza was soggy in the middle, and truthfully wasn't as flavorful as I expected, especially for the price. We got: - 1 Oyster each. A bit on the small side, but with the garlic cocktail, it was nice: my rating: 3.5-4 (because of size) - wings (ok taste, sweet and a tad spicy). I prefer tangy or buffalo: my rating of them: 3.5-4 - magic carpet pizza with bacon: very soggy in the middle. Bacon is a joke for a fancy pizza place. I would expect thick crisp bacon. Instead, it's thin, soft, and not as appetizing. The pizza did have full garlic cloves, which was a positive. But overall, lacked flavor and the sogginess was a big negative. Overall, a 1 to 1.5. The funny thing is I was craving the Wolfgang Puck airport pizza (it's actually frozen pizza put into a similar oven). But that pizza has so much more flavor (and I've never had it soggy). The service was exceptional though. You need to be 'alternative' to qualify to work tat East End. But everyone was very cool, approachable, and attentive. In fact, it was some of the best service I've had in any restaurant. Ambiance is also very cool and lively. Unfortunately, the pizza didn't live up to expectations. read more

I'm really hard to impress when it comes to food and cocktails, and this place still earns 5 stars. My FAVORITE thing: --They do vegetarian options RIGHT. (Most places: $20 pizzas, all with some kind of meat, you ask for meatless and still pay $20. This place: $16-$19 pizzas, almost all vegetarian, options to add meat for an extra $1 or $2.) THANK YOU. More restaurants need to take a nod from this. Also even meat eaters don't always want meat. Just do a build it for charge. They even had a vegetarian Caesar option (alongside the traditional anchovy one)!! Also: --ALL the food was excellent and seasonal. We had a wild mushroom pizza with herbs and bechamel. YUM. I would put less garlic on it, personally. I was surprised by the garlic but I was able to pull it off. We also had a creamed chard side that was out of this world and a roasted cauliflower dish that was incredibly flavorful with olives and other things. I'm SO sold on this place for the many vegetarian options and seasonal and delicious ingredients. We tried four specialty cocktails, and they were all good but none were great. I felt like some amazing bar manager invented them and left them behind with a rookie. None of them were balanced. Sometimes this was OK (our two bourbon drinks were more forgiving), but it wasn't on my rum drink that was overly grapefruit and not enough spice (couldn't taste cinnamon) or my gin drink that was B I T T E R. I'd like to see some re-training of whoever is pouring $10 cocktails (that's more than half the bill!), but otherwise cannot wait to come back and eat here any time I'm in Alameda. read more

(Disclosure - I know Paul and worked with him occasionally at Farmstead Cheeses and wines...) However, that has nothing at all to do with the fact that his pizzas are kick ass. I have had 3 pizzas so far, and all of them have been among the best pizzas I have tasted in the US and rival the best Pizzas I have had in the world.... For me the best is the Bouzouki. It hits the right balance of meat, olives, sauce, cheeses and the intriguing twist of flavor from the lemon peel. Personally, I did not like the half-baked as much. It misses the smoky flavor that gets infused from the wood fired oven. My suggestion? Either eat it there or get there a bit earlier than the order is supposed to be ready and get it to go... You will want to eat it as soon as possible, as all good thin crust pizzas should be. The strange thing is, they are also the CHEAPEST pizzas on the Island, but with quality standards far far above the competition. Bravo Paul. (and company...) read more
