5/12/25 Shrimp bowl - lunch special.
    Lee D.

3.5 stars rounded up. Quality/Quantity - Currently my buddy's and I's lunch "go-to" place when we are too "lazy" to drive anywhere else. Consistent and a decent lunch menu, see pictures. Today we got the following: Complimentary Chips - Always good. Actually, the waitress brought us a second bowl when we finished the first one. Burrito Callejero (Street Style Burrito) - My buddy, who is also a light eater, could only finish half his burrito. He got two meals out of this. Shrimp Bowl - Lunch special. Better than expected. Generous amount of shrimp with good flavors. I was also able to take half of this home. Atmosphere - Indoor/outdoor seating. Good size place with the bar in the middle of the business. They even have upstairs seating for semi-private events. Plenty of mall parking. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 8pm. Service - Good, better than usual, thank you. We seem to ALWAYS get the same waitress. This is the most friendly I have seen her! Price - $30 + generous tip. Owner Comment - Sorry that you separated from your other locations. But congrats on your 28+ years of continued success with your two locations and your Oakland Taco Truck. I used to frequent all 8+ of your locations; I think you were up to 11 locations at one time. Your happy hour gone...? Back in the day, this was my happy hour place. I would come here every Tuesday during HH and do my "paperwork." HH was from 2pm to 6pm Monday to Friday. Late night HH from 9pm to 10pm. They now have a $5 menu for their HH also, see their website. We used to also go to their location on Park Street because they were one of the few businesses open late. But they do NOT seem to be open late any more?!?!

We came here for their bottomless mimosas $16 deal on a Sunday for 12-2pm. However once we got seated, they mentioned they were out of champagne. A couple minutes later, another waitress came over and said they did have the bottomless available. Nevertheless we decided to stay and ordered food as well. It was a bit difficult to get refills on our mimosas however, the super famoso burrito portions were enormous! The complimentary chips and salsa were a hit too.

La Penca Azul has a impressive menu. Lots to offer. This location has been here for decades. Always popular. Recently, I had a small surprise bday dinner for my husband. Service was on point. No additional charge for bringing my own bday cake which is nice! One place locally charged $3 per person, even when I provide my own cake!! Outrageous!!!! Tasty well portion meals. Good presentation.

The place to go in Alameda for tequila, tacos and beer. You vodka and scotch drinkers can come also. This is the Bay Farm location. Back in the day we would hit Park Street but it got toi dicey. This location is a lot more mellow. First and foremost the bartenders are great. Shout out to Carlos and Lalo and the others. So I'm pretty easy to please, just give me a tequila and some lime and I'm good. My partner goes with the house margarita, less sweet, and blended peach. Both excellent. Chips and salsa arrive before we can sit down and get settled. Usually we get street tacos, regular tacos, burritos, and quesadillas either chicken, shrimp, steak, etc. All excellent. Prolly one of the best tequila selections on the island. (Well technically Bay Farm is not an island even though it once was but it's part of Alameda property which is an island and at one time it wasnt) Back to the good stuff. Great place. Service, food and drinks are always spot on and a chill vibe. One of our go to places.

It'd been a very long time since I've been here. Our 19th hole was here yesterday party of eleven. We were seated in the overflow room. As our party drifted in two servers began to take our drink orders. Then our entrees. Chips and salsa dip were brought to us. Chips were warm and snappy. The dip had a little fire. My draft beer was nice and cold. However hubby's and my regular carne asada burritos were a major disappointment. Nice serving size but filled mostly with rice. Hardly any meat, cheese, or beans. And no guacamole or sour cream to speak of. Might have been pay extra for? We had to lace our burritos with the dip that came with the chips else the burrito very dry. I'd avoid ordering this again. No separate checks and automatic 18% gratuity.

Always wonderful service, good food here. At this location there is a sunny area to wait if needed. Today we came in at a late breakfast for Mexican food but they also have American breakfasts too. I enjoy the background music.

Came here after the Tequila Expo. I love their annual Tequila Expo but this was the first time trying their food. I had their burrito with pastor. It was very tasty and the price was pretty affordable for the Bay Area. Unfortunately, my partner ordered a quesadilla with chicken and it was very dry.

I haven't been to la penca in a while and esp not to the bayfarm location. We went here instead of the main island because it was a weekend and we didnt want to wait so long. Ended up taking a while to get our order in so we played card games...my little cousin always brings his pokemon cards around and pulls them out at every opportunity. His rules makes no sense but it is what it is. It wasn't too busy when we got there and the tables next to us got their orders first? The food itself was standard and what we expected. It's located in the plaza next to the water so we went for a stroll afterwards.

Alley&Vine was the first recommendation via yelp, so off I went. Arrived at around 8pm and was greeted by the wonderful Janet. She was super kind, warm, and welcoming and gave me the option to sit at a table or the bar. Being a solo traveller, I opted for the bar which was honestly great. To Start, I had a Singapore sling. Its rare I see these on the menu so I had to try. It was strong and delicious! So happy with my choice. For food, I had so much meat. The lamb chops to start were incredible. This was served with a little mozzarella + tomato salad with all of the balsamic glaze. Super yummy and perfectly medium rare. Next time, I can just have this on its own. Definitely a star. Next, I had the duck breast which sat on a bed of spinach risotto. Very delicious and also cooked perfectly. Being Taylor, I had to finish out the dinner with another cocktail (lemon drop) that was great and finally I had a little glass of port as my dessert. All in al a great little dinner at Alley & Vine. Thanks again to Janet and the team for some excellent service and incredible food.

I will state the obvious, these are just about the two most expensive dishes on the menu, but man, they had heaps of seafood and were absolutely delicious! When I say heaps, I mean the shrimp and scallops were giant, there were mussels and clams and crab meat. 100% worth it! We finished the meal with the tiramisu and that was ok. Honorable mention to our server who was attentive without being overbearing. I would absolutely come back and would highly recommend!

It's a longtime local favorite of mine and my go-to spot for meeting up with friends--equal parts escape and comfort. The cocktail menu is impressively deep, full of beautifully crafted, fancy tiki drinks that practically beg to be explored, and so far every single one I've tried has been delicious (dangerously so). Inside, the bar nails the classic tiki vibe--warm, immersive, and transportive--while the outdoor patio offers a lovely, relaxed option with plenty of extra seating on warm days. It's the kind of place where you can linger, laugh, and lose track of time. The staff deserve a special shout-out: genuinely friendly, attentive, and accommodating, which only adds to the overall experience. A quick pro tip: if you're planning to stop by during popular after-work hours, definitely make a reservation--it fills up for good reason. The food menu is on the smaller side, but the bites are tasty and thoughtfully done, perfect for sharing alongside a round (or two) of cocktails. All in all, Forbidden Island is a standout spot that keeps me coming back again and again.

I ordered a classic martini with a twist, it wasn't my favorite drink ever but it was made well, just not my usual. After that I ordered a classic margarita which was super good and came with a black salt rim and dehydrated lime. The margarita was super tasty and both drinks were made right away! For food, I ordered the chips and salsa and guac. The guac was very good, it tasted fresh and was a good size portion. The salsa was really good, it was chipotle tasting but had a lime tanginess to it that was unique and refreshing. They were generous with the portion of chips and the chips were thick and crispy and seasoned well with just a little bit of salt. I also ordered the impossible taquitos which came with guac, sour cream, and salsa on top. The presentation was beautiful and the food came out fast but the taste was a bit weird, it wasn't bad but it just tasted like burger meat in a taquito. I really appreciate that they offered a meat alternative but wish it tasted better, like maybe use potatoes instead of fake meat, or use fake chorizo over a burger seasoning. It would also be nice if there was a vegan version not just a vegetarian version. Despite my critiques of the food, I have no critiques for the service and atmosphere! My server was phenomenal and attentive and checked in often! They didn't put our beignet order in until after they cleared our plates, and it took about 30-45 minutes after our meal before our beignets came out. So if you want beignets, just order them the same time as your meal because they take awhile to make. What we ordered: + Sweet cream pancakes - these were cute in mickey mouse shape with a few strawberries. + Crab cake benedicts - very good + Salmon Lox Sandwich - very good, but would have liked the cucumbers to be sliced thinner. They were quite a bit thicker than the salmon and was a little clumsy to eat, but I'm just being picky. + La Campagne Omelette - lots of veggies and very cheesy + Beignets - long wait and was not bad.
