The cocktails at East End are fantastic! The bartender, Sebastian, works with others to design seasonal drinks. We went in last week and tasted their fall cocktails-- there was one that was a smokey margarita made with mescal (so tasty!) and another that was made with brandy and pear (delicious and refreshing). I like the long wooden bar-- it is a comfortable place to talk with a friend. I ordered pizza to go and my teenage son said it's the best he's had for a while :) read more

Hands down this is the best pizza I've had in the bay area. I've been going since they opened in the marketplace and I can't wait till they get the storefront opened up! Cons They get BUSY. Sometimes it's a wait for your deliciousness. customer service is hit or miss, but really it's a take out pizza so....... Seasonal menu means sometimes the don't have the pizza you have become addicted to, however the upside is they will have something new and amazing! I'm not putting price into pro or con. Loved the place when it used to be a hole in the wall joint. Ever since it expanded into the new location, it's been putting on air like it's trying to be an upscale place that frankly isn't very family friendly. Tonight, for example, my kid had to climb up on his chair, and the hostess quickly came over to scold him before we had a chance to handle him. There were a few other moments throughout the night where the hostess just made us feel unwelcome, since we had a couple of kids with us. I suppose it was Saturday night and they wanted the place to be a destination for a romantic candlelight date, but get over yourselves, it's really just a pizza place and kids love pizza. read more

Love this place. I have travelled all the way from the Central Valley just to have East End Pizza (and enjoy the Alameda downtown). Small location and somewhat hard to find, but the pizza is outstanding. My family and I enjoy the Bianca. Fresh mozzarella, garlic and olive oil. Such a good pizza, even my little one enjoys it over the regular pizza pies. They also offer half baked pizzas to take home and enjoy. We tried this once and it worked out well. East End has a bit of a...stuffy feel to it. But I have no problems with casual attire and bringing my family. The servers could help bring the ambiance down a notch too. Lets not forget it's still a bar and pizza place. I recommend the Bianca pizza and a starter snack of the Hand Cut Kennebec fries with various dipping sauces. So very good and crunchy. The sauces are a nice play on your usual ketchup and mayo dips. Sorry, I have no photos to share. Just picture your perfect wood oven cooked pizza and go there. read more

Wish I had read the reviews before Saturday night dinner and dropping my hard earned money in this local, disappointing business. I try to patronize the local alameda restaurants but this will be the last dollar at east end. NO CHILDREN PLEASE. Parents, you know where you can/shouldn't bring your kids. This is a shouldn't. They are frowned upon, no kids menu, kid cups or anything else that's going to make your time enjoyable. We were basically scolded for bringing crayons & coloring books because "there's not enough room on the table for that!". Yes we could come back sometime on date night but honestly the food isn't good enough for that, service is mediocre (high attitude), prices are $$$$ for servings & what it is, and there are too many other places in alameda that outperform on all counts. The pizza was good, however I was grossly over-charged. I ordered a pizza, half meat and half margherita. They charged me over $30! The total cost should have been $20 (+tax) because I ordered a pizza that was half and half. Instead they charged me $4/each for 3 "additional" toppings. Plus, they did not make the pizza true "half & half," the margherita was the entire pizza, with meat on half! Will not be doing business with them in the future. read more

Went in to pick up pizzas to bake at home. Sat at the bar while waiting and had a beer. Good beer. Bartender acted like she owned the place. So I am sitting near the front door and an employee starts to clean the glass on the door. Inside and out. Ok, thank you for being aware that the glass was dirty, but this should be done before the shift, not when customers are there. Why you ask? Well, it was cold and windy, so they have the door wide open, and everyone sitting at the bar is getting blasts of cold air ( half the bar customers were eating hot food) and the wind was spraying the glass cleaner across the bar. I felt several drops. Nice. Then 10 minutes later the owner comes out and cleans the same door, completely unaware how uncomfortable he is making his customers. Cleaning should never be done when there are customers sitting there. Got a salad to go which was terrible. The dressing had no flavor and it was definitely not worth $9. We used to like their pizza when there were still inside the marketplace. We have yet to bake the ones I picked up. The restaurant is beautifully done and the location is great. But it seems like the staff is not trained. Like they are winging it. Not sure I would go here for dinner. They might have a good thing going but they need to step up their game if they want to succeed long term. Don't sit at the bar near the door on a windy day! read more

The pizza is as delicious as you've heard. However, it's TINY. Like, six slices that are as thin as any excuse that might be made for this place's calorie-to-price ratio. I don't care how good it tastes, no pizza this small should ever cost more than $12. read more

When they were located in the Market Place, they were a good place to pick up a quick slice. Not anymore. New location is extremely warm, easily 80 plus degrees inside, when outside temp.was in the 60's. Not a comfortable place at all. You can't just grab a piece and go, since they now have table service. (Wouldn't hurt if the waitress didn't have the "I'd rather be anyplace but here" attitude.) Part of the pizza was BURNED on the bottom, and part was Soggy and undercooked- not easy to do on the same slice of pizza. This place will probably survive by coasting on it's old reputation, but it clearly is no longer worth the trip. read more

The pizza was just average, a little bit soggy. Our pizza showed up on the table before the salad and appetizer. What really stole the show was the poor service. Our server acted like he was doing us a favor by waiting on us. He was kind of a smart-ass but not in a funny or friendly sort of way, just rude. Additionally he either had bad B.O. or bad breath, we didn't stick around to find out which. If he was busy or being over taxed with his work load there were plenty of other employees standing around that could have pitched in to help. We won't be going back. read more

The best New York style pizza in the East Bay! Thin, crispy, light pizza packed with a flavor that is cant be compared to others. They usually have specials and all are worth trying. Checked it out with a few friends this weekend. Immediately I was impressed with how unimpressed our waitress was with our presence. Either the owner is a meany and is making her work the very week her best friend died and she rightfully so was depressed and just not into the job that night. Or maybe she had cramps and, well, any woman who has had those understands: no smile for you! Other than those two things, I was disappointed in the service enough that the decent but not wonderful food will not draw me back because there is happily some incredible pizza in the Alameda/Oakland area these days. This place is a little hard to find, but makes very very taste pizza. Service was very quick (especially considering it was a Friday night!) and the folks that work there are very friendly. Came here once before with great food and good service. This time around was really put off by the fact that we were tricked by our waiter into getting a $3 water bottle brought to our table that we didn't ask for, even though every table around us was given ice water out of a pitcher. It's not that we care about paying for water but that I we somehow feel cheated by a restaurant compared to the rest of their customers without being given any other options. Screw that. read more

I ALWAYS do my research and look at the Yelp reviews before eating out. I googled, "Best Restaurants in Alameda", and East End Pizza popped up among others. I was stunned to see a 4 1/2 star out of 5 review. So I thought to myself, I have to check this place out. I waited until it opened and ordered a 14 inch pepperoni, mushroom, and sausage pizza. To my utter disappointment, I didn't find the pizza not much better than the average pizza. I couldn't taste the sauce because it was there was barely any sauce to taste. The dough was a bit too chewy and the toppings were almost as if they shrunk. Tiny bits of sausages which were about 1/4 the size of what your average pizzeria would dole out. I'm still scratching my head and wondering, what drove these Yelp reviewers to give such high reviews? Was it 4:20 for them? I'll never understand. read more

Went there yesterday - won't be back. Paid nine dollars for 4 slices of beetroot marketed under the guise of a so called "Beet Salad". Absolutely shocking case of misrepresentation and probably extortion as well. Nice ploy there = rip off. . Pizza was good but not that great - plus you can't order an extra large....... After the minsiscule beet salad and the medium one size fits all pizza I left $45 later hungry, Walked down to Scolari's and had a single slice of pizza that was almost a quarter the size of this one. But again what really irked me was the beet salad hate it when people pull this crap serving up small food at inflated prices. Lovely place we stumbled upon in Albany (took the wrong exit out of Oakland). The reviews were great so we tried this place for lunch. Not super busy-even on a Saturday afternoon. Best chicken wings I've ever had, and that's saying after living in the south for 10 years. Sandwiches were massive and my water never was empty. I always opt for a veggie option, and have even ordered without cheese in the past and have never been disappointed. Also, Sebastian behind the bar whips up a fabulous cocktail. My boyfriend wanted to stay in since the UFC fights were on, so I was in charge of finding a place to order from. I had had East End Pizza on my list of restaurants to try in Alameda, so I thought I'd give it a try. Super easy to order - called the restaurant and ordered the Diablita pizza and the Heirloom Tomato Salad and the person who answered the phone told me that my order would be ready in half an hour. Parking is easy - there is a free parking, with plenty of spots right next to the Alameda Marketplace. I showed up at the restaurant on time and my order was ready! The food was delicious. The Diablita pizza was perfect - the right amount of sauce, spice, garlic, and cheese. The heirloom tomato salad was pricey, but good. Will try again - next time, though, we will dine in to get the full experience. read more
