(3/6/2024) Came here for a weekday lunch just to try it out, we're eating our way through the plaza. We were the only table dining in, but there seemed to be a brisk takeout business. I was totally unfamiliar with the food from this region, Fuzhou, and at a loss as to what to order. Fell back to something familiar, like a clay pot casserole and beef chow fun. My coworker who says she likes Chinese food, but doesn't really like real Chinese food ordered a chicken fried rice and egg roll. She hated the egg roll, which she drowned in duck sauce, but thought the rice was fine. She's PR from NYC, go figure. Overall the meal was fine, but I think I need more research and a recommendation from someone from Fuzhou. read more

Other then that ambience is not there. Staff is casual friendly. Portion are good and price is reasonable. They do offer some live seafood that you can choose from the tank. My friend and I had a desire to eat Chinese food. So we decided to go to Joyful Tasting Palace. They have authentic Chinese food as well American Chinese food. The server John was very friendly and was always on point for the refills. We decided to order two dinner specials which included pork fried rice and a fresh crispy egg roll. I ordered Sesame Chicken while my friend ordered Chicken Lo Mein. The Sesame Chicken was made fresh and compliments the delicious egg rolls. I was 1000% blown away at the food at this restaurant! This restaurant specializes in Fuzhou Chinese food and every dish is just like how they make it in China. I had the Classic dishes : Peanut Butter Noodle ( 拌面) , Rice Flake Noodle Soup ( 锅边糊）, Wonton Soup ( 扁肉汤） , Lychee Pork ( 荔枝肉） ， Sweet and Sour Pork Kidney and Jellyfish Head ( 双脆） . All of these are the MOST famous and CLASSIC Fuzhou dishes and they make it just like how it's done in China . I would 10000% recommend this place! Authentic seafood focused Chinese restaurant right in the heart of "Chinatown" plaza. The restaurant is in a poorly crafted strip mall but do not let the looks deceive you, there is some seriously good Chinese eats here. Be warned going in, it can get loud with other customers yelling over each other and table manners that make most people cringe. But the food is worth all that. The salt and pepper squid was perfectly seasoned and fried. No chewy squid here! The fish filet and sea bass rice dishes were plenty for one diner each. Fresh looking seafood in the tanks and plenty of seating. Service was mediocre, as to be expected at a Chinese restaurant. At first I was very excited and impressed: as I came into the restaurant a large Chinese family left, apparently having had a birthday dinner there or something, and the rest of the restaurant was filled with Chinese-Americans sitting down to dinner. The staff seemed both friendly and prompt, and the interior while small was kept up well. The menu is extensive, to say the least. There is a focus on Fujian cuisines, mostly Min cuisine (闽菜) and other seafood dishes, with some Hunanese dishes, too. There are also a few Chinese-American favorites on the menu, but again: it's quite extensive. I ordered the lychee pork, which is the dishes from which the better-known Chinese-American sweet-and-sour pork (or any sweet-and-sour dish) originates and a Fuzhou dumpling soup. The pork was pretty good but not exceptionally different or better than typical sweet-and-sour pork would be at most Chinese-American restaurants. The soup was very fishy, which in part it should be, but the fish flavors overpowered all else. While a broth and dumpling soup, I think it could have had more depth, really. I would come here if interested in seafood dishes from the regions covered or if desiring the ability to choose from a good diversity of dishes. I arrived to Joyful Garden at 2 pm on a Friday. This restaurant is located in front of the Chinatown plaza, and I can't believe it took me this long to find it. They weren't that busy, which surprised me for a Friday afternoon. In fact, we were the only table in the restaurant. First of all, the food is pretty decent. My group ordered quite a bit of food, so I was able to sample many different things. I think my favorite dish was a rice cake dish with cabbage in it. Other than that, the food was okay, but a little pricey for my taste. The staff were completely accommodating, peeking their heads in our little corner every few times to check in on us. They made sure we were completely comfortable with everything, and were a pleasure to talk to. A good review in the Orlando Sentinel led me here. As a frequent shopper of 1st Oriental market I was aware of new construction of a strip of stores across the way but wasn't aware that it was open. Stepping inside finds a rather bland interior. The menu is large but not unwieldy. Beef chow fun is a staple for us and although we ordered the gravy version it came out as the dry version which overall was ok. The chicken and broccoli was solid but not outstanding. Sweet and sour fish filet was the winner, slightly fried and in a thick sweet and sour sauce though a bit too sweet for me. The fish was crispy on the outside yet not overdone on the inside. Service was friendly and reasonable. The seafood options were many which we will try next time. I would still rank Tasty Wok as better but Joyful Garden is closer in distance so it's a good alternative to have. read more

We arrived and were the only table. My wife ordered noodles with beef, my daughter ordered dried tofu and lamb and I ordered General Tao's chicken. After about 10 mins food started to arrive.... first the noodles and beef, then about ten minutes later my daughters lamb dish and almost as long my chicken dish. Notice the dishes arrival was staggered and not at the same time. We asked the waitress where was my food before it arrived and she explained to me it was Chinese style, they make the easiest dishes first.... so in other words people who arrive well after I placed my order were eating before me. Now I have dined in many Chinese restaurants all over the US and never heard such a crock ...... anyhow, the food was decent, but a little pricey for the size of the portion. Small details matter, especially at a chinese restaurant. While there are usually many dish selections in a chinese restaurant, you could pick up alot of hint from just one. I read some good reviews so we decided to give a try last night. I usually like to vet out a restaurant by ordering only one dish and see how it is first. I ordered the beef chow fun and substituted chicken. When I saw the dish, omg i could barely see any chicken. While there were plenty of noodles but chicken were less than 5% (about 2-3 ounces at most). The flavors were decent but damn. This tells me that the meat portions are tiny and that they are being cheap. It was disappointing. I was looking forward to come again and order a bunch if I had good experience but I feel like it would be a waste of money. The dishes are on the expensive side price wise, it is absolutely unacceptable if they are trying to be slick and reduce the portion. In chinese dishes, it is easy to cheat by having more vegetables than meat in any types of stir fry dishes. But please dont cut corners, or you will be called on! read more

We came here the second time for lunch and was highly disappointed from the whole experience. We arrived exactly at 11am when they opened. No one greeted us, the whole restaurant was empty. We stood by the door for several minutes and kept shouting for someone to greet and sit us. Finally a few minutes later, a kitchen staff came out from the back confused at seeing us with no other staffs in the dining area. The kitchen staff took our order and went back to the kitchen, then one of the servers finally showed up to work 6 minutes late, the other 12 minutes late. Both did not show any sign of apology. What makes it worse was they ordered me the wrong dish, and we only ordered 3 dishes and there were no other customers were in the restaurant. Service was extraordinary. They have two main private party rooms where they make sure everyone is taken care of even until 2am! It's a great place for birthday parties or family dinners. The food itself was the best seafood I've had in a long time. All the crab, fish, shrimp, and lobster we ate was fresh and picked out the night before and cooked live the next day. The owners are very generous and kind, even offering a toast to our birthday girl. If you do not speak Chinese, bringing a friend that does will help make ordering a lot easier. I used to come to this restaurant all the time but due to COVID, I hadn't in awhile. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. I don't normally say that but the food was inedible. It was bland, the noodles from the beef ho fun was mushy almost the texture of porridge and the noodles were chopped up. The fried rice had no flavor at all. We also ordered the pan fried noodles which typically is fried crispy noodles with a gravy on top but this was a mushy stir fried noodles with way too much soy sauce so it made it salty. She told us there would be pork in this dish but when we asked her after taking a bite she said there wasn't any in this dish but she said there were when we ordered. I understand, mistakes happen, no biggie. Even their chili oil had no flavor or heat. It was way overpriced for what we got. They said they recently changed the menu. Looks like the cook as well. Service was what is expected which is minimal but if you want the authentic Chinese with cleanliness this is a good place. Inside, it was very clean, good decor which is not something you find often in Chinese restaurants. Overall I was pleased with my food. I got the beef noodle soup and spicy beef and tendon salad. This is our new favorite place for authentic Chinese food. We ordered the beef fried rice, fish ball soup, clam with black bean sauce and pork stomach with sour cabbage. I must say all the dishes were amazing with the exception of the fish ball soup. The broth for the fish ball soup was a little bland bit the fish balls themselves were decent. Absolutely loved the clams with black bean sauce, I'd say this would be a must get dish!!! The service was outstanding, which is a breath of fresh air when compared to other Chinese restaurants.
