I've had this place on my "list" for quite some time...finally made it here! Boy, it did not disappoint!! I had a chicken salad on croissant with corn chowder, my guy had the crab cake sandwich with potato salad. WOW! All of it was excellent! He said that was the best crab cakes he'd ever had...hands down! Cute, quaint atmosphere and we had prompt, friendly service. All the employees were very friendly & welcoming. I decided to eat at Eastern Shore Cafe after so many positive recommendations from friends. I ordered the Crab Cakes and the Crab and Corn Chowder. The Chowder was amazing. I went to this place today because the pictures of their breakfast looked delicious. We were definitely disappointed because they didn't offer breakfast when we arrived. Nowhere did it say they stopped serving breakfast by 10:50, so I was bummed. My kids ordered chicken quesadillas and mac and cheese. It's Kraft mac and cheese, and we were very disappointed because we were expecting an authentic mom-and-pop meal. The chicken quesadillas were made with Colby and Kraft cheese--definitely not great--and the salsa and guac were store-bought, prepackaged packets. I would definitely never buy that. The fruit was meh, not fresh. The strawberry pecan spinach salad was just a salad, nothing special. My husband and I ordered a half sandwich, which was okay but not great. We will never return. When I go out to eat, I expect homemade food and a good experience, so this was a waste of money. read more

This must be what they call southern hospitality? The waitstaff was no-frills helpful and friendly. The ultimate downfall was that they messed up my order in more ways than one: they served white bread instead of sourdough, and run of the mill chicken salad instead of the one with curry. I possibly would have sent the order back if we hadn't come with a whole family, but a family member offered half of her curry chicken salad sandwich on sourdough (which is exactly what I ordered but didn't get) and I instantly realised what it should have been. The crab corn chowder was nice and thick and creamy but I have no point of reference. Unfortunately, the chicken used for the standard chicken salad seemed to me like canned chicken, and most certainly not the same chicken used for the curry chicken salad, which added to my disappointment. All in all, they get extra love from me for being a local, family owned business. I hope they continue to improve and stay open for many more years. read more

The burger was really good and it was a nice size beef patty which is unusual in my experience. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich and I normally would have tried but it was on rye and that's a hard pass for me. My best friend had a club sandwich which was huge, with potato salad of which was too peppered in my opinion. Her boyfriend had a French dip with chicken but it wasn't a classic French dip, it was different but he liked it enough. We got 2 chocolate Silk pie slices to share and I was the only one that didn't care for it, it was way to rich and sweet for me. While many other restaurants in Baldwin county pretend something they are not, this restaurant stay loyal to its concept and delivers good tasty food. We were seated by very pleasant and attentive wait staff. The atmosphere inside is very homey and comfortable. The food however was a bit of a letdown. I had the "muffaletta". I would have rather continued driving to Mobile than be sitting in anticipation of a central grocery delicacy that turned out to be a Sysco foods deli turkey melt with an olive spread. I opted for the Cafe Plate (eggs, grits, bacon, fruit & I opted to upgrade the toast to a croissant) with coffee. My wife went for the quiche plate. The food arrived fairly quickly and was hot and ready to eat. Here are the highlights Cafe Plate - Eggs ordered over easy and were they, whites were a bit too runny but edible. Not sure about the round bacon pieces, they were OK but missed the standard style. The croissant had a familiar look to it (AKA Costco) and was average and slightly disappointing. Quiche - my wife (who is a great quiche cook from scratch) said her serving was clearly not made on site and tasted fair - left her longing. We love stopping in small town restaurants when we're on the road. We were hoping to find something light and not too heavy for a good lunch meal and we lucked out with East shore Cafe. This is probably the best chicken salad sandwich on toasted sourdough bread I've ever had. The potato salad tasted like it had hints of horseradish and it was absolutely delicious. Ahh, this place is so adorable and cozy. When my family and I arrived, we initially came in through the ice cream shop and sat in the seating area toward the back. After a few minutes of sitting, an employee so graciously let us know that we needed to go to the front to order and be seated. She walked us to the front. They give huge portions for the price. For three people, we paid $40 for full meals and cookies. Don't get me started on the cookies!!!! Wow! Just wow! They were so good. We had a huge chocolate chip one and a couple of "Kitchen sink" cookies with chocolate chips, walnuts or pecans (don't really recall), coconut, and something else lol. They were divine! At first glance, you would think it's another mom a pop eatery with an old house turned restaurant you would typically see in old New Orleans. My buddy Bobby grew in these parts and suggested we eat here. No regret whatsoever, the corn and crab chowder is rich in flavor and lots of crab and is one of the best I have ever had. TL;DR: Cute and casual cafe that isn't too fussy or takes itself too seriously serving tasty food. 3.5-4 After driving through Daphne, we decided to stop for lunch. A quick Yelp/Google search showed the three-highest-rated restaurants were all nearby, and East Shore Cafe was literally the first restaurant we spotted. East Shore Cafe was super easy to get to and park. We were a little confused about where to walk in as they'd just opened an ice cream parlor attached to the restaurant, but we followed the Jack Sparrow statue to the front porch. Yes, a literal front porch because the cafe is housed in a converted residential property (there's even a tub in the bathroom). Hey--they've clearly made it work! We arrived after the lunch rush so we didn't have to wait for a table. We ordered the honey pecan chicken salad sandwich and the special of the day, which was a spicy pepper jack chicken melt on jalapeño bread. We'd heard some really good things about this locally owned and operated local restaurant that is practically legendary in Daphne. It's in an old house and is visually and it was appealing with all of the outdoor seating and quaint overall atmosphere. Because of its local popularity, and limited indoor seating, you can often expect wait a bit of a wait so it pays to get there earlier. They are renowned for their Friday and Saturday prime rib, from 5-9 and they do accept reservations. The interior is clean, vibrant and kinda quaint and the folks all were pleasant and attentive. So we were welcomed, seated and brought our ordered drinks. Speaking of drinks, they are a BYOB establishment so plan accordingly. Our order was quickly taken and we settled in for the experience. We started with a cup of really exceptional crab and corn chowder, some of the best I've had. I could have made that my whole dinner but sandwiches were coming. My honey had the South Philly Steak Sandwich, but it wasn't anything nearing a Philly, trust me we've had them all over Philadelphia, but more of a hot roast beef, it was okay but disappointing. As for my muffaletta, sadly is was not a sandwich that would make it in Nawlins, also disappointing. While the bread and ingredients were fresh and edible it just didn't live up to expectations. Bottom line: It's entirely possible that other dishes can be on par with the chowder but based on our sandwiches I'm stuck on a 3. Service and atmosphere were very nice. I had the biscuit and gravy which was just mediocre, biscuits were too crumbly and seemed to be the frozen style. They were not very hot either. My husband had the stuff French toast and thought it was very good. I ordered a side of bacon and never have I had bacon like I was served. It was round and potato chip thin, also chewy like jerky. Came here because of people hyping the prime rib special. Ordered mine medium well and it came out raw and cold in the inside. Blood everywhere. I even made my hubs touch it to make sure I wasn't over reacting. He said- that's not cooked at all. Even the mashed potatoes were cold that it was sitting on. Sent it back for them to re-cook. I think it was microwaved. Anyway- it was still bloody when you cut into it after the re-heating. Appetite was shot.
