Went here for my 5 year anniversary and got treated like a criminal because I was $2 short so I called someone to bring me that $2 and the staff was tryna make me and my boyfriend stay there and when I went out to get the money the lady was telling my boyfriend that he had to sit down and was telling him that he was not allowed to leave until she got her $2. Oh my. Here on business from Indy and I wanted Chinese, buffet-style. Food is average, nothing particularly great about any of it, but I came after the lunch rush so I suppose that could be why. I (foolishly) checked these reviews after I sat down to eat and I wish I'd read them before coming in. Someone mentioned the rag in the bucket wiping tables and the constant sweeping near tables? Yeah, I'm living that right now. Had to get a second plate at first because the first one felt gritty. I kept thinking "maybe it's the texture of the plate?" Nah, it was just covered in crap. Too afraid to check the next one so I just started covering it in food. Waitress just left my check on the table, $7.90 for a lunch buffet (no drink, not sure if that's extra so I ordered water) that really shouldn't be more than $5. Won't be stopping at this one again. read more

Second time to eat here and we won't be back. The service is weird, constantly throwing the same rag in a bucket and wiping down tables with it, sweeping while eating, one of my personal pet peavs and the overall atmosphere is just gross. The egg rolls and spring rolls were cold. I just don't want to get sick eating here, I don't even want to think what the kitchen might look like. Sorry we won't be back. read more

We witnessed one of the cooks wiping his nose on the sleeve of his shirt and then messing with the spoons in the buffet. Also in the woman's restroom one of the gals had urinated all over the seat, I knew it was her because she was coming out when I was going in and both toilets was like that. GROSS. This is an all you can eat buffet. Its hit and miss on food quality, one visit its ok, the next visit its not. The service is terrible, the atmosphere is unimpressive. Go to First Wok and buy one entree instead, at least you will like the food. read more

I went there for lunch today and my chicken was RAW! Three different chicken dishes all raw. If i could give less then a one star review i would. I almost broke a tooth on the sweet and sour chicken. My fork wouldn't even go through it. On top of that i almost fell cuz their tile was "sweating". It was a bad experience. read more

Oh my WOW! This place is awesome! And that is not sarcasm. We have six children at home so eating out is a rare and special occasion for us. And normally when we walk in you can see it on the staff's face: "why does God hate me, do you see all these children?" However, when we walked into easy star, that was not the case. The hostess smiled at all of us and believed me when I gave her my children's ages, 5, 4, 2, & 1. We did not have to ask for a highchair or booster seat, and they were more than happy to accommodate us with the table that we wanted. so when they tell you that they are kid friendly, they are definitely kid friendly. Prices did not include drinks, but even drinks were priced lower than other places I have been. and when I looked around and saw how humongous the buffet was, and saw the plethora of seafood they were serving, I was shocked at how well priced the place is. It actually made me wonder if the food was not going to be fun to eat. but I was delightfully surprised! there was such a wide variety of food available that I'm not even sure where to begin. One bar was dedicated completely to salad and fruit, and they must have had seven different types of fresh fruit, three or four from a can fruit, three kinds of jello, 3 kinds of pudding, an awesome salad selection. there were four bars of hot food, with chicken on a stick, sweet and sour chicken, fried chicken, general Tao chicken, sesame chicken, frog legs, crab legs, spicy squid pork ribs, brisket, coconut shrimp, (which is my personal favorite, and which by the way did not give me the classic MSG poisoning feel that most coconut shrimp does) clams, green beans, mushrooms, fried rice, lo mein, and that's only what I can think of off the top of my head! They also have a Mongolian BBQ, which I never got to actually eat from, but looking at the selection, it's definitely worth a trip back just to try that. And as for sushi? A.M.A.Z.I.N.G a major point for me is when I walk over to the sushi bar and ask for a bowl of Japanese sea weed, the place gives it to me. I have actually been in a place where they told me no, that that's not for general consumption, it's only for the sushi, which put me in a position of taking 20 little brown boats and wasting somebody's time and effort, the restaurant's money, and a big plate of food because the only part I wanted was the green stuff. At East star buffet, however, the older gentleman standing there talking to the sushi chef turned out to work there and with a huge grin got me a big bowl and the sushi chef did not skimp me, but rather filled that baby all the way to the rim! Needless to say, I was quite happy about that! As for the rest of the sushi, it was so much fun! I took one of each kind, filling a plate right off the bat, and just sort of ate one here and there as I was eating my other food, which is a testament to how good it was because too often sushi is only good when you eat it first and hunger is its best seasoning. I have been to buffets that are filthy and disgusting to look at. This place was clean! the bathrooms smelled good with no mess, the food bars were clear of debris and dropped food, and I saw a woman wiping down the sides of the seat after other patrons left. Maybe years ago when this place was trying to find its feet it was a disaster, but I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there on a Friday night. If you are passing through Terra Haute and you like Chinese, you need to stop here. We will for sure on our next trip across the US. read more

If I was going to recommend a good Chinese place to eat at, I would recommend this one. They have very fresh food and if something runs out, they will have more made in a matter of minutes. This restaurant is not dirty at all and has a very reasonable price for a buffet. My only problem was with the mashed potatoes. They tasted very bland and had no flavor or seasonings in them. I was really unimpressed with both the food, service, and decor of this restaurant. It seemed to be a dingy, less clean version of its predecessor; China 8 Buffet. The food was either bland or poorly seasoned, lukewarm, with limited selection. Most of the dishes at the buffet didn't have labels so making your plate was a guessing game. The tables felt unclean and looked old. The floors and walls were no better, and lighting seemed more on a budget cut than with any real mood setting in mind. Our waitress spoke very poor English which made her incredibly difficult to understand, and only visit our table twice. There were very few full tables in the restaurant besides ours, so this was inexcusable. With the recent scare of Chinese restaurants closing due to field heath regulations I'd think those remaining would make an attempt to reassure their customers of quality, though this was not the case with East Star. I won't be going back and I strongly suggest those looking for a good Chinese meal look elsewhere The Lo Mein was notably horrible. read more
