The food has not disappointed, price is great and service excellent, and great ambiance, very clean.

Pros : atmosphere was nice and inviting. - staff was friendly and hardworking - place was clean and colorful - food was good/ fresh , many options - drinks were decent , the margaritas were large and fairly priced. I will be honest I was not expecting good Mexican food in the area. This place is probably one of the better options in town. The salsa was okay - (not authentic-too sweet). I was happy that they offered fresh authentic salsa upon request. Working in Terre Haute, I do a lot of take out orders. This is from a delivery service so I can't comment on the restaurant. On this night I was really craving some Mexican comfort food. I thought I would try this restaurant, and I'm glad I did... Now, I took a point off for the chips... they weren't fresh, homemade or salted well which is what I look for in a good tortilla chip. Everything else was pretty good. I enjoyed the burrito and was able to add on guac and sour cream to customize it a bit. It was solid, hearty, plenty of meat inside. I got the chopped beef. Not as seasoned as I might like, but still good. I also ordered the al Pastor taco. The meat was well-seasoned, somewhere in that subtle blend between spicy with some sweet mixed in. The cucumbers were a nice addition to cool down the palate. Tortillas never make it when food's delivered, but these held up reasonably well. I will definitely consider eating here again when I come back to work in the area, and I'm craving something that feels more close to home. read more

This is a little restaurant off of Wabash Avenue. It has tall ceilings and lots of Dias de Los Muertos decor. There is not a whole lot of seating inside, but there is outside patio/curb seating for when the weather is warmer. We were seated quickly and our waiter took our drink order very quickly. Chips and salsa were brought to the table right after we sat down. Our waiter was friendly and checked on us often. Hubby had two of the large frozen mango margaritas and I tasted them. They were delicious! Bonus points for the restaurant having diet Mountain Dew! Both he and I had the Del Mar Enchiladas. It's three enchiladas stuffed with shrimp and crab and served with Spanish rice and lettuce and tomatoes with two slices of avocado and topped with cheese sauce. They were very, very good and fresh tasting and I would recommend this dish to anyone who likes seafood entrees. Our daughter had the cheeseburger with waffle fries, and I have to admit that her cheeseburger looked pretty darn tasty! We would definitely come again the next time we are in town. Despite having been here multiple times a few years ago, Taco Tequilas is a big "no" for me now. Went last night and waited about 10 minutes for a table, no big deal. Waiter could not have cared less about serving us. After we got food, we didn't see him again and had to flag him down for the check. When we needed more chips we asked another server, which resulted in huge eye rolls and nasty looks from her. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 were their chips were not good and the salsa bland- maybe this is a strategy so you can enjoy dinner and not overindulge in chips. Tacos and margs with the bestie ! We found ourselves at Taco Tequila's Mexican Grill & Cantina last night ! I got the beef skirt tacos and a strawberry margarita ! There wasn't much of a strawberry taste in my drink... My friend and I joked that they gave me her share of the tequila. But the tacos were to die for ! Very flavorful. This place is a little off the highway, if you're traveling but it's so worth it. We ordered the seafood soup, tilapia veracruz and the Carne asada street tacos. Everything was excellent but the tilapia was the best I've ever had. The restaurant is clean and the service was impeccable. Went there this evening. Very friendly staff, they waited on us right away. It was very cold in the restaurant though & I HATE THAT! I had a great strawberry margarita & enchiladas w/ Mexican rice. My husband had a Mexican steak dish of some sort & he said the meat was borderline bad, so that was upsetting to me since this place had been so highly recommended.. In the last two weeks I found myself traveling to Terre Haute for business and each time I stopped here to eat. I don't typically revisit restaurants but I found the fish Ceviche to taste awesome here. The large order was more than enough for one person and could be even ordered as an appetizer to share with a large table. Each time I had visit the restaurant I was eating with few colleagues and their food looked great as well. I would recommend getting steak nachos. The order we got to share was very tasty. The place has a full bar and offers many different drinks and beers. Taco Tequila's did absolutely everything right! Inside, it is clear that the owner has put a great deal of effort into creating an experience rather than just some-place-you-get-tacos. Everything is heavy with a fun, Dia de los Muertos theme, from the large paintings on the walls, to the dolls on display all the way to the signs on the bathrooms. A sizable bar sits near the back with corrugated metal and pallet wood to give it an interesting look that fits right in. The place definitely has a great vibe to it! Service was tremendous! Pillo was not only on top of making sure that we had everything we needed, but he patiently walked us through some of the favorites and hidden gems on the menu. The menu is fairly extensive, but not overwhelming. There is quite a bit of variety as well. The meal starts off with chips and salsa that are both on point! Some of the better chips I've had. We opted for a few different types of tacos, holding the restaurant to its name. The street tacos on corn tortillas were very good. 2 cautions: the sauce they give you is pretty hot and if you don't like cilantro, mention that because there's quite a bit. The fish tacos were different, but very tasty. Rather than the traditional white sauce, they come with a spicy mayo sauce that was really enjoyable! Since it was after noon, we also tried the other half of the name and ordered a medium Marg, because the large looked like a punch bowl. We walked right in on a Sunday afternoon with a party of two from out of town. We asked the server what was good on the menu and he knew right away what to recommend! We took him up on the Pollo Ixtapa recommendation which was amazing! The sauce was delicious! Rounding out our meal was chips and salsa (OK: thought they both needed more flavor), ground beef and spinach quesadilla (a surprisingly unique and yummy combo, but a bit too greasy), and fried ice cream (decent flavor, but lost its crunch too much in the freezer), margarita (pretty good!) and sangria (great!). Yelped tipped me off to this new place and I stopped for lunch. I'm glad I did, I was stuffed! The food is good, and the lunch menu is a definite value for what you get. I ordered the chicken chimichanga, and it was medium sized, packed with white meat chicken, and some cheese sauce on top. Rounding out the platter were refried beans, rice, and a small dab of fresh lettuce with tiny dollops of guac, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Standard basket of chips is served with small carafe of fresh salsa. The salsa was a perfect, not too watery and not chunky at all. It seemed blended to produce uniform consistency, with the occasional fresh cilantro sprig and leaf. The brick interior is bright and fresh, with the worn look on the wooden floors and touches of urban industrial hardware. I sat in the back near the bar and kitchen, which got me uber-attentive service from my waiter. There is a great view of the famed Wabash Avenue if you get one of the tables by the front windows. There are plenty of seats at the bar and many four top and six top tables. I think the winner on this plate was the perfect salsa and the meaty chicken. Those were both five stars. Beans, rice, chips, flour tortilla, and dollops were four stars. Add the great location, friendly staff, large menu, cool bar, and tremendous value of lunch menu, and I count five stars! I have had two visits here. My first time ever, we were greeted by Martin and Abe and they took care of us well. We had a rather large group at the time and they were very accommodating. Everyone loved the cheese dip and the salsa but especially the chips that went with both. As someone who has grown up in southern california, I appreciate having a place that is close to the authenticity of my hometown. I got their three authentic tacos with: carnes asada and lengua. I swear to you, I was in love with their lengua taco. This brings me to visit number two. When I first came, they didn't have their beer license so I promised to return when they did. I split a pitcher of margarita with a friend and order the same three tacos. The seasoning and the texture of the lengua that day was not the same flavorful taco I had the first time. I hope that when I return once again, they'll have their recipe figured out so that it stays flavorful. Overall, great place for authentic tacos! read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch after I found out my fav vegetarian restaurant in town closed, just across the street. I'll preface my review by saying that I had very high hopes. Chips and salsa were good. My food was ready somewhat quickly but I had ordered huevos rancheros and it strangely came out as scrambled eggs mixed with fajita vegetables and a red sauce, which I was not expecting. I've had this dish a number of times at other restaurants and the eggs are generally served over easy with red sauce. Anyway the taste was just ok (eggs were a little over cooked) and a bit salty for my taste; I ate most of the rice and beans with the table salsa instead. I'd give the food a solid 3, overall they earned another star due to the clean/stylish decor and good service. read more

(Instantly unveiled to me that this place was only reviewed as "authentic Mexican" by some, on here, because this city is super predominantly white. Anybody who's been to an actual authentic Mexican restaurant knows they'll not only have, but pride themselves on their horchata.) I said, "Okay, I'll take a Sprite." And they didn't have that, either. I had the carnitas tacos and asked for "their spiciest sauce" to come on the side to try on the tacos. The waiter brought me their "diablo sauce", which had some kick to it but was otherwise very bland. The tacos, themselves, were solid. (Nothing impressive about them, but they were not disappointing, either.) service: 2.5/5 It took just under 10 minutes for me to be seated, in spite of the restaurant being almost empty and several staff members looked at me and chose to ignore me. My waiter was not rude, but a far cry from the attitude you'd expect from a food service worker dependent upon tips. For example, after I ordered, he just silently and expectantly stared at my menu rather than saying anything along the lines of "I'll take that up, for you." Additionally, I saw my waiter twice my entire visit. Once to take my order, and once to bring by my check. asides: - ambience: Some neat Day of the Dead [holiday] murals on the walls. We were on our way home from Mississippi and stopped in Terre Haute for dinner. We tried Taco Tequila's and I was wishing we lived closer than 3 hours. Inside was decorated really nice and rather chic. We were met by a really nice server who actually acted like he liked his work. He was great! He brought us warm corn chips. We each got our own bowl to pour salsa into from a carafe. The salsa was fresh and delicious. I ordered a chimichanga that has this fabulous sauce which came with retried beans, rice, guacamole and pico de gallo. Really good. I had an original margarita and my friend has a mango one with a sugar rim. Quite tasty. One friend ordered a burrito which she liked very much and another had an amazing quesadilla, which he had to take half of it home it was so generous. I would be at this restaurant once a week if I lived closer. Freshly made, prompt and friendly people make it a winner. read more

So I have a confession y'all, I came here around the time they first opened up and forgot to check in. Anywho, I came back and I must say this experience was far different from the first time. Unfortunately, I feel like they've gotten a tad cheap with their ingredients or overall food quality. I ordered the Tres Caminos fajita which is a combination of steak, chicken, shrimp, and chorizo served with the traditional rice and refried beans. I was completely underwhelmed, it just wasn't as good. The steak was so dry I contemplated on dipping it in water to get it down! Customer service was great. Oh and they offer student discounts!! I think T&T does ok for this small town. I hope they get better quality meat soon but until then, I won't be back. read more
