The Urban Edge Farm - The big sign that greets visitors upon arrival at the Urban Edge Farm in Brentwood.

(3.5 stars, rounded up to 4)…read more The Urban Edge Farm is well-known for their peach and apricots during the summer time. But who said U-Pick season has to end after the summer? During the fall, they offer other U-Pick fruits, such as pomegranates, persimmons, and kumquats. Last weekend, we decided to try out their persimmon U-Pick. I initially found out about when their persimmon U-Pick would be available through an Instagram comment (there weren't any lnstagram posts or events on their website directly advertising this year's persimmon season), but I also double-checked by calling them the morning of before making the trek to Brentwood. The front of the farm area is a little store front, where you can buy fresh produce that's been harvested directly from the farm. This is also where you weigh your fruits after picking them. After completing the liability form via QR code, they drive you and your guests on a jeep to the fruit trees (and back). During the short drive to the persimmon trees, we also spotted baby cherry trees, a couple of pomegranate trees, and what appeared to be a grapefruit tree. As for the persimmons, there were about 5 Fuyu trees and 2 Hachiya trees. There were plenty of Fuyus available for us to pick. On the other hand, the Hachiya trees were quite bare so we only ended up finding and picking one that was ripe enough. At $4/lb for both varieties of persimmons, we ended up paying around ~$17 for 12 persimmons. The persimmons that were ripe enough to eat were nice and sweet. Getting the U-Pick experience without the summer heat and with reasonable prices was great. The only downside to this experience was the abundance of ants on the trees. The ants got on my hands, clothes, and even my face and the top of my head. The ants didn't appear to affect the quality of the fruit, since they were mainly on the branches and the tops of the persimmon leaves. I wasn't afraid of getting ants on me, but it was starting to get bothersome having to swat the ants away from my body and the persimmons I picked. I thought I had gotten rid of all the ants before leaving and getting into my car, but throughout the ride home, I spotted some straggler ants on my lap and arms, and even on the windshield! So take that into consideration if you're not particularly fond of ants.

The experience itself kind of fell into two main categories: the service versus the product we experienced. The service was wonderful. The staff at the farm was very friendly, they provided specific instructions on how the evening was going to proceed, and overall it was well organized. We met up as a group, learned about the farm itself, and then divided up to harvest, lettuce and tomatoes for the salad we'd be having as part of our meal. This was fun and immersive, and the quality of produce was great. There was also an opportunity to pick flowers that would be used as table decor as well as on the birthday cake. Speaking of the birthday cake, this was made from scratch by an employee in house and was phenomenal. The downside of this experience was the food, specifically the paella. It was a pretty windy day and the first concern arose it took a hot second to light up the paella cooktop. It was suggested that we bring it inside to cook, but the suggestion wasn't taken. I don't know if they're not able to use it inside due to fire, hazard or not but regardless, the cooking for it was done outside and it was difficult to maintain temperature. As a result, the paella came out severely undercooked. The rice was crunchy but, more alarming, was the undercooked seafood: shrimp, scallops, mussels, fish. I think the entire dish didn't get fully cooked due to the reduced cooking temperature as a result of the wind outdoors. I know I wasn't alone and feeling this as my table mates felt the same about the paella and I also saw other people from our group at other tables picking up and inspecting the seafood. Fortunately, I didn't get sick and no one that I know of got sick, but I do think there is an opportunity in improvement here as it definitely could have been much worse.

Beauty products , dry foods, sauces, snacks, drinks, ice cream, frozen foods, candles, incense, desserts YOU NAME IT !!! they are in the process of stocking their shelves and not quite organized just yet. But they did have limited fresh meats , goat, goat, goat and more goat. I don't eat goat meat but it's popular in many cultures. The goat brain made me gag !! I came looking for meat to grill its was scarce on the chicken there was a few pieces of skinless chicken breast but not much to select. I didn't see any lamb chops either. But they sure had everything else other than the fresh meats. If you are into trying new things there is so much to buy from their culture. CHECK IT OUT !! Between us, we're allergic to many of the top allergens including dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, and wheat. I was told so many times to just buy a "normal" wedding cake and pretend to eat it for pictures. I was worried about what I was going to do until I found Sweet Freedom Bake Shop. Leading up to the wedding, we ordered several different things like Rice Krispies, sugar cookies & cupcakes. All really good! GinaMarie patiently listened to any feedback and make sure we felt comfortable eating everything. Day of the wedding, I was blown away by how pretty the cake was. It was exactly what I hoped for. Nobody could tell it was allergy friendly and many guests went for extra slices! I will absolutely be back in April for my birthday cake. We've had such a wonderful experience

They were pretty much booked due to the holidays but they asked if someone had allergies. I explained that my baby has some food intolerances so I had to avoid certain allergens while I'm still nursing her. The owner was very accommodating and said I could order a confetti cake ready to pick up on my daughter's birthday. Everyone was very impressed with how beautiful the cake looked. It tasted as you would expect a confetti cake to taste even being dairy-free. I highly recommend ordering desserts from here, especially if you need allergy friendly treats for special occasions.

Initially they assisted us with some choice items from the menu, due to my guests dietary preferences. We coordinated the menu, fees and delivery all via email. They arrived promptly the day of the party and the food was fresh, flavorful and warm. We kept the items warmed, until the second phase of the party when my guests became hungry again. We served the items and they were DEVOURED within an hour. When I mentioned the type of food we would be serving, my finicky guests turned their noses up UNTIL THEY TASTED EVERYTHING!!!! The samosas were such a hit, many of my guests took home to go bags; depriving me of any leftovers I was so impressed with the quality of food, service and overall genuine kindness of this business. I strongly recommend them for your catering needs, especially events such as private parties, mixers and business conferences.

Being a busy vegetarian professional in Brentwood doesn't offer me many choices for lunch(and I'm too lazy to make my own lunch haha). I like ordering the Veg special because it's different every day(menu changes weekly), so I get to try new dishes each time and don't have to spend time deciding what I want. Sanjeev is super nice and emails are answered pretty quickly. BTW, I'm stuck at my desk all day so ordering by email is probably my favorite part. I also like that they ask for your preferred spice level... I like spice but don't like sweating at the end of a meal! I recommend everyone try it!

Parking was easy and right at the entrance, you walk over to the booth to sign a waiver and collect your buckets. The buckets are lined with a plastic bag. Not to mention the buckets are pink, so cuteee! I brought my own buckets and bag. I also brought a wagon. It was nice to have a wagon to help carry all the cherries i picked. The staff here are very friendly. If youre like me and you brought your own bucket, they'll need to remove the cherries you picked to their bucket and weigh it on the scale. The scale is already calibrated for their bucket weight. The cherries were $4.50 per pound and i ended up picking 20lbs worth. This was about 2 full buckets. With the weather getting warmer, i suggest going in the morning. If you have questions, they have a number to call. They have a variety of cherries, ranier included. Ladders are randomly spread out in the farm for you to use. My friends and i had such a great time picking cherries and took some cute pictures as well. We'll definitely be back !
