I'm surprised to read the negative reviews as I've only had an exceptional experience with Eastern. When I moved into my home, the previous owners had used another company for propane that I attempted to continue using out of convenience. Long story short: the other company left us without heat in the dead of winter, claiming problems that didn't exist and billed us majorly. Eastern came out immediately to correct the situation that the other company messed up on, ran tests multiple times to make extra sure everything was fine and got us back and running with heat. Furthermore, they didn't charge us for the call and actually gave a partial credit on account for what the OTHER company had charged us. They offer payment plans to make fuel more affordable in the winter. They are always prompt with delivery. I've never run out. Additionally, they have great options if you need new systems. We received quotes from 6 different companies for our water heater and our furnace. Eastern was by far the lowest and they offer 0% financing. They were very professional when they installed everything. read more

Annoyed that my oil was on autofill and shouldn't have run out, but did and it's negative degrees outside. That being said there was a wild propane smell inside and emailed them after turning everything off asking if there was a problem or empty? Got VM at 1am , technician showed up at 2am as was considered a safety concern. They not only made sure was safe, but filled it. Eastern Propane should be ashamed of the way it handles customers. I have been with them for seven years. This year I was sent my 10 month contract with a link to pay the first month - or so I thought. I clicked the link and entered my bank info so they could take the monthly payment directly from my bank account. Only they had made a mistake and took nearly $3,000 from my account, the entire year's payment from my bank account. When I called them to ask to correct the error, they said that they would not refund me until they were sure that the payment (which I didn't owe them) had cleared my bank. That takes 2 weeks and only then are they willing to send out a check which I would receive a week later. Absolutely terrible policies. The gentleman on the phone tried to help, but Eastern Propane's outrageous rules prevented him from doing so. Is this how you treat loyal customers? I found a competing company Palmer gas was able to cut their propane rates by nearly in half!! eastern propane told me that they must come pick up their tank on my property and didn't give me any other options. I talked to multiple people at eastern thought the process and I got a few different people telling me something different. one said 20 dollar pick up fee another said probably won't be anything because they want their property back. they ended up setting on a 100$ fee to pick up an empty tank because I told them I went with a competitor I'm glad I ran far far away from eastern. you should too read more

Their service plan coverage is a joke. The did a yearly service of my boiler (five years old), but refused to service the leaking expansion tank. Three weeks later the tank burst sending boiling water all over the basement. Eastern refused to take responsibility even though the expansion tank was in my service plan. Their manager gave me all kinds of tech excuses why they aren't responsible. They eagerly take your money for the plan, but then when it comes time to do what's in the plan, they hide. Terrible service. Called 1 year ago after moving into a new apartment with empty propane tanks. it was a weekend and they delivered with an emergency fee of $160. Understood and paid no issues. Fast forward a month- I called to get a receipt to show fee to landlord. absolutely no proof of me paying fee and claimed they delivered the paid amount in propane without fee. my tank said otherwise. NOW TODAY, after calling at 8am to get an emergency delivery (this being the second time ever). Delivery was set up, I paid for 100 gallons after explaining my previous experience and how I could not afford both today. I asked if I could pay the fee later this week or get less propane delivered to pay in full today. They responded that theres a 100 gallon minimum for emergency deliveries so my only option was to pay for both today. I agree to pay for 100 gallons plus fee today- THEN she tells me the manager noted I must fill my tank completely and pay the fee today to get it delivered. Oh AND if I want it delivered before the 7-10 day wait period I MUST PAY IN FULL. Single mom a week after Christmas I don't have an extra $1,000 laying around. And let's not forget they made sure to already take the $489 out of my account and my tank is currently EMPTY. Still waiting for said manager to call me back at 5pm on a Sunday.. if I had to guess it will be too late to do anything or they really just don't give a shit and don't return my call at all. David D. I have been a satisfied customer for the past several years. I recently had no heat and it was Sunday night. I called the emergency # and the technician that was on call, Richard called me 10 minutes later and he was at my door shortly after he called. After diagnosing the problem he found a defective safety sensor but didn't have one with him and would have to order one the following day. When I called early the next morning to check on the status the technician and the service staff were already looking for the part and would call me when they located it. Ladder on that morning Sandy in service called and said they had found the part at their Rochester NH Headquarters and sent Richard to pick up the part and return to install it. I can't say enough about the professionalism and dedication everyone showed and the speed at which they found and installed the part the same day. I called Eastern Propane for PRE-BUY and paid by credit card the total price. The contract would be sent in the mail and I would return the contract. The following week, the contract arrived in the mail. I filled in the blanks, licked the envelope and placed a stamp on the front of a pre-addressed envelope. It came back with a label on the front, "Return to sender, Unable to forward." WTF! Thanks for the pre-addressed envelope, and a lot of good that was. Terrible company. Our bill was $500+ in the dead of summer. When we called to see if they could send someone out to check our meters they said we must have the heat on and it couldn't be their meters. Even though the meters on our house were from 1986! We keep calling to get them to send someone to no avail and meanwhile the bill keeps going up $300-$500 every month even though we turned off the heat. Terrible company. This is the first time I've used propane, and I ran out. Donna was extremely helpful on the phone, and Chris came out that night. I'd spent the whole day working with a company to arrange to clear the snow away, but they canceled right before Chris got here. He didn't let that stop him, though. He filled my tanks, tested for leaks, and lit the pilots. He did not leave until he was sure I felt comfortable that my house was safe. Jonathan G. was our tech today and shared his expertise with us as he was winterizing our home. He advised us what would be beneficial to us when we open the home back up. If I could give 0 stars I would. I am furious with how unprofessional this company has been. I had a scheduled appointment at 9 this morning. it is now 11:30 and no technician. I have called and have been given the run around by 5 different representatives. I even asked to speak with a manager who assured me that they tech would be here in 15 minutes. It has been 30. I had to take the morning off of work and now I am going to miss meetings. I am 5 months pregnant this is BEYOND unacceptable. Once the technician did show up he was extremely polite and helpful but to make me miss a day of work is poor planning on the companies part. With crazy prices on everything. I decided to look around for lower oil prices from what I was currently getting. Eastern was a good 50 cents cheaper and could deliver the day after my other company would have so I signed up. I have an outside door to my basement in my driveway so it wasnt an issue. However, not wanting to leave it unlocked and no one home I called in the morning to get an estimated time for the driver so I could plan around it. I was told 11-12. Thats fine. Come 12:18, I called again for an estimated time. The rep asked how much oil I had cause they may need to reschedule. I told her i had less then 1/4 on Tuesday, this now being Friday, it is a necessity. She then stated the driver was now en route. 1:15pm I call again as no driver here. I am now told that the driver is still at another job and are estimating 2-3 hours. I asked why I was told he was en route when he hadnt left. Apparently their system simply shows en route when the driver is out and can mean anywhere. They say he will deliver today. I call yet again at 4:45 as I know their offices close at 5pm, spoke with a different rep, he said the driver is yet still dealing with an issue at another location and will be done shortly. I will say that I am regretting my decision to try to save a few dollars and switch companies. If the driver ever gets here and I get the oil I prepaid for, I will update. All I can say is so far not so good. I was totally set back when guy I know asked the Rochester office to pick up two 120 tanks that he owns, and have them pull out the propane so he could then transport them himself. After initially saying they can't, they offered to do it if they keep the tanks and the propane. They refused to do this for a fee. Now that is one the biggest rip offs I've ever heard of! Keep both tanks and the LP at an estimated value of $1,000+ minimum, rather than be paid a few hundred $'s charging by the hour. I changed from another propane supplier in York, ME after poor customer service and a lock out when I wasn't home. I had a leak and they shut off the tank and offered to come out 4 days later. I decided to call Eastern. Amy was terrific over the phone. She passed my name onto Pat, Sales Manager who was at my home the following morning at 9:30 am. Shortly thereafter Brian showed up and swapped out the tank. He detected the leak and fixed it. I cannot say enough about his friendly, knowledgeable nature. I am so not a fan of Eastern Propane. They are expensive and Customer Service is, at best, lacking. And, if you need to speak to someone to have a question answered, plan on spending at least 15 minutes on the phone, just waiting for a person. Last fall we decided to have gas logs installed in our fireplace. Our neighbors had had the same and they said Eastern Propane did their installation, so that's who we called. That whole process took over a month primarily because of paperwork that either didn't get passed along or because the Sales rep didn't submit it. Both the Sales rep and the installer told us that the first tank fill up would be more expensive, but instructed us to call the office and get on auto fill-up, because that would reduce the rate considerably. Okay, so I called the office right after the installation and when I finally got through, I was told that Eastern did not offer auto fill-ups to customers who used only small amounts of gas for such things a gas logs...in other word, us. When I explained that both the Sales rep and the installer said we could go on auto fill-up, the Service rep chuckled and said, "I need to speak to those boys about that." Yeah, you think? So, we were being charged $4.69 p/gallon and that would be our rate, period, end of story. Then, at the first of the year I received a bill for $100.00. Huh? At the rate Eastern was gouging us for gas, I had just considered taking out a loan to pay for the last fill-up and now this? When I had 20 minutes to spare, I got on the phone to Eastern. Once again, Eastern did not disappoint--my wait time was about 12 minutes. When I got a rep, I was told that the $100 was the tank rental fee. What? Where was that in the contract? I had been told that we couldn't switch gas companies because the company owned the tank, and blah, blah, blah... But, that last bill put me over the top and I called another company, Lorden Oil, to see what was what. Yes, we could switch. HOORAY! Lorden would take out Eastern Propane's tank, and replace it with theirs--NO CHARGE--and then I just had to call Eastern to have them come pick it up. Again, Eastern did not disappoint: $85.00 to pick up the tank. I'll almost gladly pay the fee just to be done with Eastern. Oh, the swap out with Lorden? I called on a Monday, got an appointment for Wednesday, old tank out, new one installed, and we're on auto fill-up AND saving about $1.50 p/gallon all in two days. I was using Eastern for my oil because Our Town Energy Alliance had negotiated a contract with them, so the oil was less. Up until this year, except for running out of oil once, it went okay. This year they are charging me for oil that they never delivered. On April 8th, the final delivery for my oil contract with Eastern was completed. The oil delivery guy left a ticket at my door for 58.2 gallons, which finished up the contract. I thought it was interesting that they filled to the exact amount that was left. The ticket said that the tank wasn't full, which I verified by going downstairs and looking at the gauge. I thought that was that. However, on September 3rd, almost 5 months later, I got a letter saying that I had an overdue balance for 72 gallons worth of oil. I never received a bill for this. I never received a delivery ticket for this. I never received any oil, as determined by monitoring the oil level in the tank. When I called Customer Service, expecting to be able to straighten this out over the phone, the representative was rude. She stated that the oil had been delivered on 4/9. She asked for a copy of the ticket that I had received saying that the tank was not full after 58.2 gallons. I sent it to her, with a request that I see a bill for the 72 gallons since I had never seen one, and asked her why the oil truck had come back on 4/9 to fill the tank after finishing off the contract on 4/8. I don't know why she wanted to see the ticket, because it didn't change her attitude or opinion. She had the computer generate a bill for me so now I have a bill for this oil they never delivered. I realized that I have no proof that they did not deliver the oil they are charging me for. All of my evidence is negative -- no ticket received, no bill received, no oil delivered. I am going to pay them because I don't want to deal with collection agencies and damage to my credit, which is what they are threatening me with. I don't see how I can prove anything in a small claims court. I will never do business with these people again. read more

We have been using Eastern since moving to Rye in September 2017. Never a problem with delivery (automatic delivery) even through the very cold weather last winter. I had my furnaces inspected by them this past fall. Ted was very nice, professional and knowledgeable. Yesterday my furnace went out. I called Eastern and had a technician in my house within three hours. It was Ted again, and he was great again. He diagnosed the problem (thermostat) and fixed it within an hour or so. Prices for propane and for services are reasonable. read more

FEES! Be warned ... they get you coming and going. Here are a list of the ways they zapped my wallet since I purchased my home. 1. Rental fee of the tank on the side of the house, plus the propane in the tank. Threatened to remove the tank if I did not pay within 30 days. Apparently previous owner was an employee with employee rates, so I had to pay the difference. 2. Service call. They bill 30 minutes, then every 15 there-after. The tech was done and loading his tools within 10 minutes of arriving at my door. BUT - had to do a "leak test" and "equipment inspection". Then needed to do a "home consultation and homeowner education" which took an additional 25 minutes. They billed me for 46 minutes. 3. I didn't use the minimum 75 gallons per year (which I wasn't aware I needed to) so they billed me a rental fee of almost $100 - literally 1 week after I paid them $100 for the service call. 4. I tried to cancel my service ... they are charging me $85 to pick up the tank, even though the NEW company is disconnecting it and leaving it by the side of the road. And all of this added to the fact they are the highest rates on propane locally that I have found and the driver won't deliver if there is snow in your yard. read more

Very unhappy that, although I've been chipping away at my ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR oil bill with $100/month, Eastern decided to send someone over to disconnect my propane this week so I can't cook. I still owe them $500, and now they're putting on a $85 fee on top of that to send someone out to reconnect me. That is, if I can come up with the $500. Then when you call to get clarification on what is going on they will argue with you that you are wrong. Absolute nightmare of a company. Do yourself a favor and do not use this company for any kind of heating services. If you're currently using eastern, fire them immediately after reading my review and find a new oil provider. I totally regret hiring them to have my annual furnace cleaning done by their incompetent "licensed" hack tech. Not only was it an expensive service because the "tech" messed up a perfectly running boiler by screwing up a simple cleaning, which ended up costing me way more then originally quoted, he also tracked dirt into my house and did not close exterior doors while he was going bank and forth to his truck and we almost lost both of our indoor cats because of his incompetent carelessness. After his service call, my furnace had trouble firing the next day which then they sent another guy out to look at it that seemed to have one more brain cell than the last guy and was able to get it working. The new tech claimed that I had sediment in my line which clogged the nozzle. No apologies what so ever after complaining to the service manager about the poor service and not willing to discount or waive the original bill. Fast forward a few months and my boiler was having issues again with hesitating to fire, I called my new oil company to look at it and come to find out it was easten's techs that screwed up tuning my burner which caused it to break down! this cost me over $200 to have fixed. I got the total run around from eastern trying to have them reimburse me for their mistake. In summary: -Eastern hires incompetent jokes that call themselves professionals because they're "licensed" - They don't care about their customers. Their customer service is the worst ive ever experienced from any company. -If I could give them a negative 100 star rating, I would. -Find yourself a good local oil company that cares. read more
