My husband & I had a wonderful evening at Longhorn Steakhouse today. I believe the bartender's name is Jordan, he made an outstanding Old Fashioned. We proceeded to a table to dine, my Filet Mignon was cooked to a perfect rare temperature. The server was nice, but delivered the check well before I was finished with my entree & never offered dessert, so that to me was disappointing. My husband was eyeing up the cheesecake pictured on our table...I will of course return for another Old Fashioned & a perfectly cooked Filet, but don't deliver the check while I'm still enjoying my entree & rush me out. read more

We were traveling from Ohio to NY and were staying at the Fairfield Suites right down the street from this Longhorn. We were so glad to find a decent steakhouse, and after driving for a good 4 hrs., we were ready to officially start our vacation. We both wanted an alcoholic drink, the blue moon was fresh, ice cold, and my perfect margarita was just that, perfect! Our waitress, Olivia, was sweet, attentive, and quick, too. We ordered two lobster tails, the stuffed mushrooms, side salad, and the shrimp appetizer. The manager, Terry, brought our food over and asked us how everything was so far, we told him our story, and he shared with us some ohio stories, and we chatted a bit. He proceeds to walk away, and we begin to notice that's he's overlooking every table, the people and the servers and employees, almost as if he was pit boss but in a good way. Lol. When it started to get heavy busy, Olivia was still on it, but when we asked for the check, she offered us any dessert on the house, which Terry offered to us. Not only was this place clean, great food and great service, a good location, but the Management is on point and we were blown away by such kindness, friendliness by all of the employees and it set the bar and high. We both thought now that's how a restaurant Mgr. should be, and it was one of the best experiences we have ever had. So much in fact, we came back 4 days later on our way home. TO GO is a NO GO So we usually eat in here and are always satisfied I'd like to point out. However recently we didn't have the time to eat in so I utilized their to go option. Tried through the website and there was some sort of an error, so I had to call in no biggie there. So we ordered the prime rib and the filet with salmon. I had my fiancé pick up our order and should have asked him to check the food. However everyone knows the pain of trying to pull out all the food and look through all the containers. Anyway he ordered a rare steak and I ordered a medium rare. Well suffice to say both our steaks were well done. His prime rib was done to the point of being burnt on the outside. Mine was edible but also well done which was not what I ordered. The salmon was over cooked. Anyone who eats salmon knows unlike steak once the salmon is overcooked it's inedible. I did grind it up in a food processor with some water and fed it to my cats. Overall you think spending 70 dollars on an order would mean it would be carefully prepared. This was not the case. You are better off dining in to ensure that your food is cooked properly. Overall really disappointing experience. read more

Today was probably our 6 or 7th visit to this Long Horn over the past several years and easily the worse visit. Wife and I ordered 6 and 8 oz. Sirloins respectively, hers medium, mine medium rare. Steaks came out same size and both over cooked. I had a cup of lobster chowder, and expected it to be similar to previous cups I've had there. It was watered down to where there was little flavor, but there were a few kernels of corn floating in the watery soup. Anything good? My wife's Brussels Sprouts were great. Pricing for our meals was not bad. Will we return? Not anytime soon, as Altoona has many other places that do better. EDITED: I spent the next 6 to 8 hours rifting (didn't want to say burping!) taste of that horrid Lobster chowder. Can only figure that the restaurant was running low of the soup and "extended" with "non typical ingredients", such as broth i stead of cream and other non-typical seasonings. The restaurant was very, very off, as bread was not brought out until right before our meals (waitress said they were "behind"). I will probably contact corporate owner of this place. read more

I had the parmesan crusted chicken as my entree and it was horrible; worst flavor I ever had. I tried scraping the cheese off but it was still horrible. The steakhouse mac and cheese however was a completely different story. I cannot imagine how ever have mac n cheese that good again. I am not really sure how I could give my experience on 12/8/19 more than one star. My girlfriend got a steak done medium well. It was beyond well done. I got a sweet potato with enough cinnamon sugar on it to make four boxes of cereal. I have a video of me pouring half off it off but that still left too much on there to enjoy eating it. I can't post a video so I attached a screenshot. I really don't complain but I would have, had our server come back around. The food runner brought the bread she forgot, another beer for me and then our meals. The $2.50 bud light was the highlight of the meal. read more

To be considered only if there are no other options. A tall boy from Sheetz and a burger from 5 Guys enjoyed in my room would have been more satisfying and 75% less than the 50$ I dropped here. The service was marginal. They got the salad wrong but never came around to ask. They got the steak wrong too. They did remake the steak but man the food is just LOUSY here. Seriously. Cheap cuts of meat. Very poor quality. From the lettuce to the meat. Don't spend any of your cholesterol budget here. Save it for someplace good. Consider this a "chain-wide" indictment. This is probably only my second interaction with a Longhorn Steakhouse, the last time I went to one was way back when and it wasn't a great experience. That could probably be the reason as to why it took me so long to decide to give them another try. When my party walked in we were seated quickly and had menus in hand. Shortly after we were greeted by our waitress and our drink orders were placed. I cannot remember our waitress' name exactly, but I want to say it was Lynn or Linda, we will stick with Lynn here. Lynn went above and beyond here. When it came time to order Lynn was very knowledgeable with the items offered on the menu. When I clued her in on as to why I was asking so many questions she went into high gear. I told here about my allergies and she scurried away. I thought maybe I offended her or something, but instead she went and grabbed a binder that held all their menu items recipes in it and came back to the table. She took the time to sit there and make sure that what I ordered wouldn't adversely effect me. You don't get that kind of service usually, but I thank her for making sure that I didn't have an episode while dining here. The food was great. What I did order was a HUGE portion. I had the Parmesan crusted chicken. The chicken breasts were huge and more than what should be served for a single portion. It was not short on taste at all. After eating at a Longhorn Steakhouse in Pittsburgh, PA, I was excited to find out that they were building one here in Altoona. The wife and I walked in around lunch time and were seated quickly. Let me say that the interior is very open and nicely decorated as you would expect at a Longhorn. I strongly recommend the parmesan crusted chicken, any one of their hamburgers, and their macaroni and cheese. The service staff seemed to have the 'just opened jitters'. It was more then we really wanted to spend on dinner tonight but 100% worth it. We got seated right away since they wasn't as busy for the middle of the week night. Food was really fresh and hot. We got the onion tonion, both of us got the 6oz steak 1 with mashed potatoes the other with a baked sweet potato and salads. The steaks was perfectly cooked. They was so tender and juicy it just melted in your mouth. The mashes potatoes was really good and had butter just melting down them. The baked sweet potato was done just right with just the right amount of butter and there sugar mixture they use. The salad was fresh and crisp. Dressing was really good. We only got one dessert because we both was getting really full from dinner but the strawberry shortcake thing they have is amazing. Longhorn is a nice place with friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere. I had the prime rib sandwich with salad for lunch. The sandwich was excellent, but was served with a fairly bitey horseradish dressing. I would have rather had it with an Au Jus, they should give you that option. The salad was good. The food is good, consistent with Longhorn's standards.The trick is getting it to your table. Service tends to be slow and inaccurate. We were once charged for two entrees from the neighboring table (we had a party of 4) in addition to our own check. Once we got the check and saw the error, it took over 30 min to get the waitress back to our table (meanwhile that table had empty glasses and problems with entrees). Also they can be selective about seating; walk-ins are seated after all call-aheads are seated, no matter when you arrive. As a result of the above, business has dropped off so it's easier to get a table than it used to be. Pluses unique to this location in addition to the food are parking, quality of mixed drinks and accuracy of bar orders, and now the manager makes the rounds (something we'd experienced at other Longhorns but not this one until our most recent visit). Our friend is a server here, when we walked in, we asked for her and the hostess took us right to her. Even though she knew us, after the hugs and hi, she went right into what she would do at every table. Didn't treat us different. They bring out yummy bread! My husband is a steak guy and I'm just a burger girl. He loved his steak and I enjoyed my burger. We got a dessert and was given our check, but told to take our time, no rush. We paid our bill, gave our friend a hug and left filling very full. We've been back one other time and had a different server. We were treated the same way, well no hugs :) . Me my wife and mother in law when to longhorn for my first time tonight and it was a pleasant experience. I had the porterhouse with a sweet potato and broccoli. The stake was cooked great the sweet potato was amazing the broccoli was ok I had better. My wife had the full rack of ribs mash and broccoli. The mash was amazing as well. M.i.l had trout I believe the portion was very small wasn't really worth the money. We had the shrimp and lobster dip & and the spinach dip both was great. Also had the fried cheese cake bites it was good. Over all was a good meal and not to badly priced all that for $87. Staff was nice.
