This course is the definition of 9 hole muni. It is run by the county in a relatively affluent area and is often the subject of for sale rumors which seems to have died down for now. I can only speak to the actual golf experience here which is what my review will entail. All the trappings you need for a golf course is there. There is grass where there needs to be and the essentials are well kept. Yes there are gopher holes littered throughout the fairway but then again I hack away at grass that can serve as a respite for other animals so...it's all fair. You get golfers from all levels and I often see The First Tee there using the putting areas or some of the holes to teach young ones the game. I'm all for that. Pace of play could be an issue as I can see some folks wanting to get 9 holes in relatively quickly and thats why they come here. If that's you, things might get a little tough here depending on who you run in to. Lastly, big shout out to holes 1-3 as some of the most fun holes to start a course in the area. It's been a minute since I've come to play here and maybe things have changed a bit but for what it's worth, this is a great place to come for super twilight, watching the sunset against the backdrop of the San Gabriel Foothills. read more

This one-star review is not directed at Eaton Canyon as a golf course, restaurant, bar, or driving range. It is specifically about the young brunette woman with a terrible attitude who works at the front desk and consistently displays a rude and unprofessional attitude. I do not know her name, and this is not a personal attack--it is simply an honest account for anyone visiting Eaton Canyon. I'll bet just by my brief description, young brunette woman with a shitty attitude, the existing staff knows exactly who I'm talking about. My brother and I have spent thousands of dollars here this year alone. We come nearly every weekend, spend generously at the bar, and always follow the rules. We've never once tried to sneak food, drinks, or free rounds. This past weekend we prepaid for our morning tee time through Golf Now. At check-in, we also requested a replay round for the afternoon and a bucket of balls to warm up. The gentleman checking us in charged me, I tapped my phone to pay, and we went on our way. No issues. After finishing our morning round, we had lunch at the bar. When we returned for our afternoon round, while waiting at the 1st tee, the young woman at the clubhouse shouted from a distance, "The cart return is over there." My brother replied, "We're not returning the cart--we're about to play our round." She yelled back, "You didn't pay. You have to pay or leave now." I calmly walked over to her to sort things out, but she was immediately argumentative and confrontational. She raised her voice at my brother and refused to listen to me as I tried to explain. I told her respectfully that if there was a miscommunication and our replay round had not been paid, I had no problem paying again. The gentleman working alongside her handled the situation professionally. I showed him the charge on my phone, and he even called the staff member who checked us in earlier. During this process, the young brunette came back out and told us, "I'm done with you. You guys need to get out of here. Dead ass. You guys need to get out of here or I'll call the cops." She then grabbed the gentleman by the arm, pushed him inside the clubhouse, and slammed the door in our faces. To be clear, I never cursed or raised my voice. My brother and I were calm and sober. This was completely uncalled for. After this, we respectfully drove the golf cart to my car. Loaded our bags and then returned the cart to the designated area. I want to reiterate that this review is not aimed at anyone else at Eaton Canyon. Ruby, Jason, Theodora, and every other staff member we've met have always been 100% professional and welcoming. We get along with many regulars + members and have even been invited to join the club. Up until this incident, our experience with staff, crew, and fellow guests has always been excellent. That is why this situation is so disappointing. It is unusual and concerning that Eaton Canyon management would allow someone with such a consistently unprofessional attitude to represent the front desk. On the day in question, she was even dressed unprofessionally in a Cowboys jersey--not in Eaton Canyon attire. I encourage management to review the security footage, speak to the bar staff, and evaluate the reputation my brother and I have built at this course versus the behavior of this one employee. I can understand miscommunication and frustration, but no guest should ever be treated the way we were--with rudeness, shouting, and threats. 3:30 tee off on 3/12. Started with the dude checking us in being completely rude and amazingly unfriendly. First tee blocked by a woman on a cart who was part of a HS staff. Had to sit and wait while three foursomes of HS kids teed off. The kids on every hole waited for the kids in front of them to clear the green, on par 3's cool but not any other hole. Kids did not repair pitch marks on the greens. The conditions here are beyond deplorable, tee boxes shot, gopher holes you could snap an ankle in, on and on. Few of the greens were okay but that's it. Nearly three hours to play 9 holes. Am not expecting a luxury experience here but this is beyond awful. Wonder what they do with the county $ for maintenance? Tried to have a friendly talk with the HS coach after about how etiquette is part of the game, he could have cared less. Let's start with the positives. The starter was polite and the greens were in pretty good shape. Not a bad layout for a small space, but there is much to be improved here. The tee boxes and rough were less than acceptable. Beat up and let go is an understatement. I brought my own pushcart and on a hot day it would be too much to walk. I avoided the cart fee because of all the negative reviews about them prior. For $22.75 during the week for 9 holes, minus the cart fee, it's steep (for what you get). Based on the conditions I'd suggest $15 to walk and $25 including a cart on the weekdays. It is tucked away off a major street and it has potential, but considering it would be $45 for 18 holes this course is not worth the return. Golf is at an all-time high and Eaton Canyon can do better. read more

Good 9 hole golf course! Well maintained. It's one of the longer 9 hole I've played. Did this course walking with pushcart (95F+ sunny weather) totally doable, that hole 6 uphill might get you though. Some holes make it feel secluded with a nice San Gabriel mountain backdrop. Greens were very good, and easy to read. I liked the different yardages a lot, I used more clubs than I expected at a 9 hole. Only thing I took one star off for is...There were two staff in a cart younger guys (looked like teenagers), driving around seemed to be looking for balls, they would drive pretty close by to us without any word or acknowledgment, but also hitting balls from tee box which we were still putting at. It's confusing when a cart is driving backwards towards you while you're in play...will come back. 15$ walking, is extremely good value. read more

Course is in great shape, pace of play was good. It was nice to see course open after fire. I give the course a 4 out of 5stars. I apologize for the sarcasm in advance. Unfortunately, went into bar to unwind and thoughtless bartender played Punk rock and Speed metal, hardly appropriate music while sipping a beer.. Suicidal Tendencies and Black Flag are ultra relaxing. I wanted to kick a puppy after paying my tab. Maybe she wanted to start a mosh pit in the patking lot. My advice is read the room. Just because you want to listen mass shooting music while you work doesn't mean the patrons enjoy it. Have some self awareness, so i give the Bar/Lounge a 2-Star rating after that dreadful experience. Sorry for 3-Stars but she ruined my Zen moment.. read more

I came here about 2 months ago and wanted to spend some time at the range. I got here 1 hour before they closed to practice at the range rather than the course due to the fact that they were closing. The associate at the shop, very young white dude told me that because of day light savings, they were closed. Mind you, it was 3:40pm and they closed at 5pm. I then suggested I would be done within the hour and he said there aren't any balls to provide because they are saving them for the next day, Monday. The worst golf experience I have ever had in my life. I have quite literally been scammed by this golf course. About a month ago I booked a tee time online but had to cancel it. I called the pro shop and they said i would still be charged the $40 non refundable deposit I made. Sure no problem. The day the tee time comes I get charged the $40 and another additional $40. I call up the pro shop to ask after I noticed it on my card statement and the manager originally offered to just use that additional $40 as a credit towards my next tee time. I said I just wanted a refund so he said to email him the details and everything to get a refund. I emailed him and it was two, three weeks no reply. Had some friends who wanted to play so we booked another tee time for yesterday, 11/2. At the pro shop I let the guy know of the offer the manager told me since I never got refunded in the first place and he said he'd crunch the numbers in and charge me accordingly. I still got charged $72 in total, $40 prepaid deposit and $32 at the shop. I don't exactly know what the price of the cart fees were since it wasn't too clear so I'm not sure if the old $40 ended up getting applied. We ended up waiting an hour for a cart past our tee time and the sun was beginning to set. We had a 3:10 tee time and didn't get to tee off until closer to 4:20. The people that played before us teed off an hour before us and we ended up catching up to them by the fourth hole where they were still on the tee box. We ended up getting a refund for the $72 but an hour later I ended up getting charged an additional $10 to my card from the golf course. I have no idea what's going on. read more

This golf course is worth going to at night when the price is cheap ($11 per person during twilight hours), but it's just okay overall. The holes are a decent length, and the green is in alright shape. What was frustrating is that the staff allowed for anyone who showed up to immediately line up to tee instead of going by the schedule, which meant that there was a large group of people just lining up and going whenever they felt like it. Also, the grass overall was not that great, and there were lots of gopher holes and dry patches. I'm happy that I got my golfing in, but there could definitely be improvements to this course. read more

Can't see why the low ratings. Going in, I don't expect much for a 9 hole course. Happy that it's pseudo regulation and not all par 3's. Lots of dirt but mostly near the tee boxes and not fairways, which is nice. You do get a little dirty, but whatever. Greens were fast and well maintained. For the price and type of course had a lot of fun late Wednesday afternoon. If you want better, pay more and go to a reg course. Why not five stars? Does have patchy fairways in spots. The dirt paths and patches get rough and dusty. Will I be back? Yes sir. With the time change, playing 9 is the goal and twilight starts at 2pm. My "home" course of sorts. It's a nine-hole course that offers some par 4s and even an uphill par 5. It's in decent shape most of the time. Yes, as others have stated, the fairways are patchy and the cart paths have a few potholes. But the greens are surprisingly well-maintained and in great shape. The rates are decent, even with a cart. But they usually run out of carts as this is a popular course due to the price point and ease of booking. You can walk-on, no hassle, and not feel intimidated. This is a public course that anyone can play and have fun on. My only complaint is that the range is meh...the balls are well beaten and in really bad shape. It's pricey to hit a bucket of old balls. Things have changed for the better in my opinion, out at Eaton Canyon. The last few visits, I was able to get range balls without delay. The ball dispenser was running low once, but the staff was able to coax a few more buckets out. Once I was on the range, someone started collecting balls so I would say customer service has improved. I've been here several time and absolutely love this place! It's such a hidden gem and I was so happy to hear that the Eaton Canyon Golf Course has been saved! After seeing all the signs, I was so worried! I usually come here with my boyfriend and we hit a few buckets of balls on the driving range. It's a great way to relax after a long day at work, get some sun, and enjoy a beer. Prices are great--it's always happy hour there. They also have a new menu with several options that sound really good, but I haven't tried the food yet. We've been talking about going here Sunday morning for breakfast and doing a round of golf. Sounds like the perfect Sunday, so I'll definitely update the review once we've tried it. The golf shop is a little small, but has the essentials. They stay open pretty late, especially in the summertime when it's light out later and the sunset golf prices are super cheap. SOLID 9 hole for beginners like me with a handful of longer 300+ yard holes. Not crowded at all, so low pressure for beginners since there aren't people behind us breathing down my neck. Usually no waiting for people ahead of you either the couple times ive been there. People are the front office are amazing, especially Bob. Super friendly guy. The 9 hole is a nice little course to practice on during the week before going out to a full 18 hole on the weekends. Driving range is mats with grass available, but the grass could definitely use a lot more work. Granted it is super hot in Pasadena lately. Long, dry, brown, a little beat up, and cheap. No, I'm not talking about a 7 Eleven 1/4 lb. Big Bite hot dog... I'm referring, of course, to the Eaton Canyon Golf Course! Still, this is SoCal golf for the Proletariat... the price is right, a few of the holes require a solid driver, and it's on my native 'Dena soil. With the backdrop of the San Gabriels, this is somehow a pretty little muni-course. Despite record rains this year, the course is already starting to show its inner desert, but that's OK. For a total amateur like me, the course is rather forgiving, and "out of bounds" is often still playable... unless you lay one up on the island separating adjacent Sierra Madre Blvd... in which case, you can pick up your ball outside when you're driving home. Speaking of driving, the range is never really crowded, or at least there always seems to be plenty of room. Nothing fancy here-- you can rock a t-shirt featuring your favorite 80s band, and no one is going to ask you to wear a collar. Few folks seem to repair +1 but considering the frequency with which the grounds crew move the holes or poke those little aerator things into the green, you're playing winter rules and shouting like Ted Knight in CADDYSHACK. Be the ball, Danny. Anyway, I like playing here. Few attitudes, and no one takes themselves too seriously. Drunks, baffoons, and bullies are promptly run off by management or law enforcement. The occasional coyote on the driving range will test your ethics and aim, and each in its appointed place. read more
