My first time playing this course and I was very disappointed. My buddy booked the course online. There was no mentioned of the greens aerated. Showed up to the course checked in. Handed the gentleman at the counter my card. After he charged my card and handed it back to me, he mentioned that they had just aerated the greens the day before. I've played on aerated greens but i've never seen greens (more like bunkers) covered sand. At least give me a heads up before you charge my card or offer a discounted rate like other courses do. At least the weather was nice. read more

I was looking forward to hitting off grass after finally hitting consistently off of the range mat. After walking up and down the length of the range it was disappointing not being able to find any decent spots to hit from. It was like hitting off of spotty crab grass and sand/dirt. Came here for the first time this week. The front desk/help desk man was super friendly and helpful. Reminds me of the storybook granpa I never had. Calm voice, funny sense of humor, golf attire, caring personality.. haha. He helped and instructed my friend and I on how to use the golfball machine. It was $9 (good deal) for a large bucket of golf balls for the driving range. The only problem with this range is that there are no dividers between players. This was problematic for me as a brand new golfer because I kept hitting the balls to the person next to me. Luckily that was my friend but he was so scared that I would hit him on the head with the ball when he placed the ball on the tee. Other than that, I would definitely come back here because the people working there were friendly, the people that were playing seemed friendly, and the course is very close to my home. The grass could be greener/landscaping could have been nicer but my friend reminded me that it's winter and that's why it looked the way it did. Makes sense.. :) read more

Eaton is a great place to spend the day working on your game. You can practice chips, puts, and hit range balls. Then grab a bite and a drink at the clubhouse before playing a quick nine holes to put all that practice to the test. Membership price is very reasonable and gives you access to the tournaments as well as being able to track your scores and maintain your handicap. Great people and culture and a fantastic place to work on fundamentals. read more

Theodora at the pro shop was by far the rudest and most unprofessional encounter I've had with any pro shop worker ever. She was extremely rude to me about being late, when I was 10 minutes early but was waiting in line at the pro shop. She told me I don't have a tee time and that no one is booked for that time until I showed her my golfnow receipt. She charged me $70 for a $25 box of balls because apparently they "only sell individual sleeves no full boxes of balls. She didn't give me the cart keys then gave me attitude when I went back to ask for it. She also made me wait inside for close to 10 minutes after my round when I walked in to complain, but she was just outside chatting with someone at the course. Overall a very rude woman, this doesn't reflect on the course. Been there many times and never had an isssue but Theodora was a nightmare to deal with. Anyone with her manners should never be put in a job dealing with any people. read more

UPDATE!!!! Hell yeah! Looks like LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger has done the right thing and saved Eaton Canyon Golf Course!!!!!!! Thank you KB and thank you all the golfers who fought city hall. I just played there today and posted my second best 9 hole score on this one-of-a-kind, heavily forested and ultra aesthetic mountain golf course. Thanks to new management Course Co actually giving a flyingcrap about SUPERBLY maintaining the fairways and greens...I could finally get a wedge under some balls and also make some long putts! Now here is the next step forward....let's get the new management to finally ADD a "championship" back tee to convert the Fifth Hole (second par three) to an awesome, elite-class, 250-yard Par 3 (which could also play as a super-aesthetic short Par 4) Yes!!! Next time you play the 5th walk about 75 yards past the present blue tees, turn around, and you will see that this hole was MEANT to be 250 yards long! (Only one small magnolia tree would have to be removed to create an added teeing surface.) Let's make this happen! Surely it would attract more golfers who want the added challenge of a "new par 4" at ECGC. And if the County says there's no money for it...then let's raise 1500 bucks on our own! Played here for the first time and was not really impressed. The golf course itself was poorly maintained and the non exist nice of a cart path was uncomfortable. But I will say it is great for a quick round of golf with little to no waiting. Additionally, the driving range was on real grass which you don't see very often. I understand it is a cheap course but I would be careful going here. The people at the course have no respect for the game of golf. We ended up leaving after early because the group behind us were deliberately hitting into us. This makes the game dangerous and not fun. I would not recommend this course to anyone as the pro shop should maybe tell the golfers some basic rules of golf. read more

I like playing this course and I'm a regular. However, the Women's restroom on the course never has toilet paper or seat covers. The Men's restroom has these items, ALWAYS. I have complained about this multiple times but I'm just told that they are "short-staffed". So, ladies, bring your own roll of TP or be prepared to use the Men's restroom . read more

I don't play here. I have been bringing my son for First Tee. I really like that it is a big open area for nice walks. But I can see how the golfers dislike the kids running around. A good 9 hole course in SGV. Available are driving range, putting green, shop, carts, and a couple of tables and chairs outside. An engaging woman greeted us as we checked in. You may want to use a cart although it is walkable and that's what we did. I would say that half the people opt to cart it. It was not too busy on a Saturday at 10am but crowd gathers after 10:30am. The early golfers tee time at 7am is perfect as they are usually twosome which is a great pace to play. The green on hole #1 slopes sharply towards the tee so an approach pin high is the play. Hole #3 is interesting as you have to clear a large concrete ditch surrounded by fences on both sides. The surrounding area around the trees slants toward the ditch so take that into account. The visible tee after finishing #3 is #7. Hole #4 is on the other side, so make sure you go around #7 and follow a concrete pathway behind #7 through a narrow tunnel and #4 will be on your left as you exit. The tee boxes were in good condition, fairways were ok and greens were sometimes average and some very fast. I was in a bunker in one of the holes but I would not call it a sand trap. It was solid and hard dirt, quite surprising. This is a good course to play, no attitude and fun. read more

Dang disapointed. I thought this was going to be as nice as the Westchester course. It was not....bathroom is dirty. Staff was NOT friendly by any means. Look like they hate all races but white honestly. The driving range socks compared to Westchester. Dirt all over uneven level. Ugly grass. That was super fun. It's a public/muni course, so it's never going to be like a private course. Parts will be rough. But, it was a pretty, low key, not too busy course. There's a pro shop, cafe, driving range. Great to see the scenery. Driving the golf cart was like driving a jeep in a safari! Hole 3 is straight up weird. There's a fenced gutter splitting it, so you hope to hit the ball over the fence. Appreciate the tips to pay attention to Hole 7 and how pretty it is. You can miss it. Apparently this course has some interest. The neighboring Altadena course is flat. read more

I've been to Eaton Canyon several times. I played here just a few days ago and; apparently, it's under new management and it shows. There are actually goods for sale in the shop, and the course is clearly being tended more closely. The first time I went here, there were several areas on the course which were quite overgrown, these are now much more manicured. When I went before, the greens were very patchy with invasive grass species and now they're much more consistent. Apparently, the restaurant (and its menu) is also being redone. There aren't a lot of public regulation 9 hole courses in LA, so it's nice to see one getting some love. It's a deceptively challenging course and every time I play here I know I need to bring a few extra balls (I have a 35 handicap). I will probably be back more often in 2018 as I want to work more on my long game. read more

Even though this course is slightly longer and more challenging than Altadena GC, Eaton Canyon just doesn't do it for me. (Not sure why.) The staff, from my experience, seems friendly. I love the fact that it's a grass range but it's uphill. I do not enjoy ranges that are uphill. It's a bargain playing twilight here on weekdays and a mega bargain for super twilight at $6.50. But I don't know what it is about this place that makes me prefer Altadena. It's a more laidback vibe at Altadena perhaps...? I know this review is really helpful but I suppose you should try it here for yourself. I can only speak for myself. read more

I've only been playing golf for about 8 months. So take my review for what it's worth. With that being said, I love this place. Unpretentious, just enough of a challenge and the price is the best! I can usually sneak in a Super Twilight for super cheap. The course has some interesting holes, but nothing too daring. I havent played Altadena, but this place is great for a quick 9 holes where you can use most of your clubs. Some of the drawbacks are the wash running along the 2nd hole and the 3rd hole. There is some car noise at # 3, 4 and 9. But it doesnt bother me. All in all, it's a friendly course and a great deal. read more

Once we got our lessons down he took us out on the course and we played the nine holes. CRIMINAL RIP OFF! ONE STAR BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE ZERO STARS. THE WORST MAINTAINED COURSE I HAVE EVER SEEN. GOPHER HOLES EVERYWHERE, DRY AND HORRIBLE FAIRWAYS, BUMPY GREENS. We quit after 5 holes because it was unbearable and headed to the club house for a refund. Amazingly, we were told they don't offer refunds per county rules - whatever that means. Exasperated, I insisted. She got the manager who in classic fashion repeated the same line. I told her as an avid golfer, if I knew what the course conditions were like I would have never paid and that I felt completely scammed. The manager said she can call her boss but that she was on her lunch break and that she would call in half an hour. Half an hour? Are you kidding? Is this the twilight zone of criminal rip offs and horrible customer service? I felt like I was in a hellish parallel universe. Like getting sucked into a worm hole and arriving in a foreign land where the rules are that you always get taken advantage of. I walked out amazed that we just got taken for $55. Thankfully my friend walked in and played the good cop and was able to miraculously smooth talk his way into a full refund. What a complete aggravating waste of time. I could go on and on but it would be a greater waste of my time. We're heading to the Rose Bowl, where for $11 more we can actually play real golf at Brookside. Honestly, they should plow the whole place and build houses. It would be a much better use of dirt. read more

Eaton Canyon has some very interesting holes, but unfortunately the course is not designed to be a refuge from the noise and traffic on Sierra Madre Villa. 4 out of 9 holes are located along a roadway, with 3 directly beside a major intersection. It's hard to concentrate on your tee shot with honking and screeching going on in the background. The course would work much better laid out like Altadena GC, where most of the holes are buffered from the roads by other holes, practice areas, and maintenance facilities. That said, the staff here are very nice, and the driving range is grass and well maintained. Maybe on a weekday morning it's quieter, but it's just hard to justify it over Altadena. read more

Yes, it's a bit worn around the edges, partially due to neglect or little budget and partially due to the drought. It's pretty browned out considering all the rains from a month plus ago but we've seen worse at a couple of other courses. The GREENS were aerated so it equated to one seriously rough ride today. I had multiple putts going toward the hole when an apparen't "goat turd" seemed to send it "stage left" or "stage right". In the end, it was just the current condition of the greens. I enjoy putting and there was nothing smooth at all about any of these greens so putting became more of an act in futility. They were so "snail slow" which is not common in SoCal so it was hard to adjust. Add in the aeration factor and it was nearly "game over". The first few holes are pretty fun with downhill fairways and nice views to the green. All in all, it's a fairly fun play and it it were better maintained it would be quite enjoyable. The STAFF were friendly. The CARTS are fine but the cart paths are dirt or buckled black top which has been torn up from past earthquakes or tree roots uprooting them. This equates to a similar experience to "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" at Disneyland. If you have any form of a back problem you will hate the cart riding experience here. The DRIVING RANGE has a view looking at the mountainside. I didn't hit there so I have no idea the condition of their grass. The pricing looked quite fair for the various sizes of buckets of balls. read more

After almost a decade of neglect by the previous management company (O&J)- the course is now coming back to life thanks to the efforts of the new Course Co Management. It's going to take some time but things are already looking and playing great since their takeover Sept 1, 2017. With beautiful Mountain Views, mature trees and a varied topography, this is a challenging and fun 9 hole course. read more

I like playing here when I feel I need a challenge. It is harder to play here than sister course, Altadena golf course. There are a few carries over flood control channels on some of the holes. On hole #4, you are hitting down to the green. Your drives can really roll on this hole. But don't try to play hole #4 when there is float viewing on January 1 or 2. The course management shortens this hole to prevent you from hitting your drives to the street where this is float viewing. Some of the fairways are not flat. You have shots above or below your feet. Course is about 2900 yards. A little longer than executive course. They have grass teeing area. Driving range is fun to play. Like Altadena golf course, there is an old pickup truck where you can try to hit some of your drives. read more

Ended up coming here because Rancho Duarte was shut down for a tournament. I've heard of this place forever but just tried it for the first time. The only thing nice about it is that it's a full 9-hole course unlike Rancho. There are a couple of par 5s and no real cheap par 3 holes. There's a good amount of trees lining each hole which I would say are pretty decent in width. IMO the course is terribly maintained though. If you keep it in the fairway, you'll be fine. If you don't, expect to be hitting off dirt and some pretty thin lies. We played for $20 which I don't feel is worth it. Might as well pay slightly more and play 18 somewhere else. Or just play 9 at a full course. read more

Played a quick round last Saturday. While the fairways and rough are a bit out of sorts the greens were superb. The new management has done a great job of revitalizing the greens as they rolled as true as some of the nicer courses in the area. The grass driving range is a huge plus and is typically not overcrowded. I'll definitely be back and hope that the rest of the course progresses like the greens have. read more

This used to be a very nice 9 hole course. Other than the greens which were playable, every other part of this course was a horrible condition. The fairways were out of control with long grass, weeds and totally neglected. The traps were hard. The amount of dead trees, either standing or cut down but not disposed of is crazy. They did not even have score cards when we played. Not to mention no carts. What a shame!!!! LA County Services for you. read more

Eaton Canyon Golf Course NO LONGER SUPPORTS YOUTH GOLF - what a shame. Sierra Madre - St Rita Catholic School golf team can no longer play at Eaton Canyon. They demanded that the kids pay full freight for golf carts during late hours when no one else is on the course. They also demanded that each kid have an adult with them on the course. Never in the history of never has a kids school golf team been expected to drag their parents around on the course. It sounds like sour grapes not letting elementary school kids come on to the course to learn the game and that is a shame. They are likely losing money and instead of creating new golfers for their course, they are doing whatever they can to send them away. They have lost my patronage and I hope you find somewhere else to play instead of coming here. read more

Fun golf course. I'm a member of the men's club here - they're the only club in the area that has Saturday tournaments, leaving my Sundays free for baseball. The course is less challenging since all the trees blew down last year in that wind storm, but it's tough for me! Plenty of elevation changes and a few really challenging greens. The price is great, and with the new renovations going on, it's really getting better. Everyone here is super friendly (especially the club members), and the restaurant workers are outstanding and accomodating - even for a picky eater like me!
