A lot of pros and cons to this place. Actually.... a lot of pros and just a really bad experience overall. We went here last night for a birthday dinner for a couple of our friends. I was excited because I'd been once before in the bar area for flat bread and drinks. I appreciate the complimentary valet, for starters. The place is BEAUTIFUL! I love what they did with the decor. It's .... kind of Gatsby-ish I guess is how I would describe it? But they have a good size dining room, then a gorgeous atrium dining room for large parties (where our party of 14 sat), and finally across the way a big bar/lounge area, which you walk through the kitchen to get to (kind of cool, actually). So we sit down and waited. And waited. And waited. Now, in their defense, one of the birthday boys hadn't arrived yet. But we still wanted to order some apps and drinks.So finally, we had to grab the guy and ask for drinks. And apps. So he tells us about two app specials - the Eberly Cannonball (see pictures), a one lb meatball of dry rubbed, ground beef tenderloin with spices, sitting in a tomato fennel sauce (UH. MAZ. ING.) and calamari. I love calamari. So we ordered two of each for the table. And then 20 minutes later the waiter tells me they just sold the last calamari. Bummer, but okay. So the waiter says we can order apps from the bar menu, I say no thank you. He keeps trying to upsell us apps and starters the entire time. Even after the cannonballs (eventually) arrive. Anyhow, we order. I went with the venison and quail, with a side of their potatoes. We all shared, so I got to try a little of everything. Oysters, Chicken, Short Rib ..... Everything was DELICIOUS. And for how long we waited for everything to come out, it better be. But I honestly thing what impressed me most was the mac and cheese. So then we ask for the check. I AM NOT EXAGGERATING WHEN I SAY IT TOOK THEM OVER AN HOUR TO GET THE CHECKS TO EVERYONE. Seriously. They kept getting the checks wrong, and finally had everyone just write down what they ordered on the back of receipts. AND THEN THEY STILL GOT IT WRONG. The manger (eventually) came out to apologize and told us we'd get 25% off our tabs. At this point, we all just wanted to leave. Another half hour goes by, and that goes up to "25-50 depending on what we ordered". Valet comes and gives us all our keys because they're leaving. It was that late. We didn't get to leave til after 12:15. Absurd. We got there at 8:30. C'mon now, how can you not know how to split a check? What kind of place makes you wait for everything, with no communication? So moral of the story - budget time accordingly at this place, because they do not have their shit together. I give three stars because the food and the ambiance of the place were worthy of 5 stars (although the portions were kind of small), but the service really got under my skin. It was extremely frustrating and I don't believe any of our group will ever be back, which is a bummer because the food was great. read more

I have been to Eberly a handful of times but never have I had an experience like this visit. I made an online reservation for a surprise birthday party and made specific requests to be sat in the cute greenhouse/library glass room. I also requested to have the menu customized (something I have done before) with a happy birthday message on it. Both of these things were approved and discussed and approved once more on the phone when the reservation needed to be adjusted. Upon arrival it was discovered that our party was not only sat in the wrong area but was directly next to a noisy bussing station...then I realized the menus hadn't been done either. I immediately brought this up with the person at the door and I felt that my disappointment was brushed off. To amplify my frustrations, our waiter proceeded to refill other guests wine glasses at my table, including my date who I split a bottle with; but did not refill my empty wine glass once. Several guests at my table even noticed this along with me. I am very disappointed by this experience and I doubt I will return to Eberly again. Every other experience I had here has been amazing, but to have a lesser than experience and nothing done to reconcile that..not really a place I wish to spend my money. read more

Last night I grabbed dinner with my friend Sandra. I just moved to Austin from Dallas. Parking was easy. Walked into such a beautiful ambiance I was pretty impressed because everything in Austin seems to be a little too hipster for me but not this place. This is the golden goose egg. Drinks were AMAZING. Our bartender Nicole gave us such wonderful service so we decided to ditch our table and eat up at the bar. This sounds weird to say but their salad dressing is amazing with little chopped up Apples. The food was so great we decided to order about 4 more items and shared them. We caved and ordered dessert when we saw the menu. Nicole recommended a banana pudding dessert and not only was it beautiful but it was melted in my mouth. I think I officially have a favorite restaurant in ATX. Thanks for the wonderful experience. I plan on going back very soon. read more

My boyfriends family and me came here for a birthday. We entered the restaurant and were looked at offensively and laughed at by the hostess. We brought in a small cake and were told there is a fee for it. It was very unwelcoming. Other than that , waiters were very kind and made sure we were pleased with our food. It did take a bit to get our food but we had people in and making sure we had enough water. Food was pretty okay, I feel like there was a lot going to the food but not much when ate. This was our 3rd visit to Eberly. The first two were average and this visit has slipped below the line into the poor range, unfortunately. We decided to order a bottle of wine and 5 smaller plates to share. We asked that they be sent out in a spaced, causal manner in no particular order. Apparently the kitchen did not realize that part of the instruction. About 10 minutes after ordering we received 4 at one. The 5th came about 5 minutes later. The standout was the bison tartare with sunchoke cream. My partner loved the unique texture and the freshness of the dish. The shells & cheese were exactly that. Nothing bad certainly, yet nothing memorable. They were not especially crunchy/crispy on top and had very few bread crumbs. As well, the roasted carrots were fine. Nice sized portion; definitely lacking seasoning. Speaking of seasoning, the crispy crushed potatoes had more seasoning than the two previous dished combined. I like salt, so does my partner. We were able to eat one bite each and had to send them back. They must have been salted several times with a heavy hand. Completely inedible. The server kindly offered to replace them, however we chose not to try them again. Then we had the grilled octopus. The exact sentence "this is the worst octopus I have ever had" was uttered. Overly chewy and the seasoning was off - in a way that is hard to describe. Some other reviews like it, so maybe just a bad night? We did not send it back as we were now just done with the entire experience. The service was fine. bar staff cordial and polite. Honestly, this place is just "okay". The food is not horrible, but also the price point does not match the flavor. There are price points that make you feel " it is definitely worth it," however this place missed the mark big time for my party. My party sampled the oysters, which are super tiny, smaller than mussels. Even though oysters are out of season, I frequent other restaurants with better options at this time. The salmon was easy to recreate at home. The 30 year aged steak was a let down due to lack of consistency. Basically the sauce packed the flavor but once it sets in the steak is . The drinks are definitely not created/crafted by a mixologist. The alcohol outweighed what ever flavors the recipe suggest is present. They were more of a taste from a bar you pass through before you get to the real reservation. The hush puppies failed short of a flavor other than mild pepper (jalapeños maybe). It also missed an ingredient that most hush puppies include, the texture or corn or chop peppers/onions. Convenient complimentary valet parking. A lot of work did go into the interior design. It's pretty and interesting but really a step shy of wow. It's loud. You can have a conversation, but only with someone right next to you. Service is polite but confused. Courses come out helter skelter, there may be a long break before the next plate, or the plates may pile up all at the same time. Once a plate is empty, it's likely to remain sitting on the table for a long time. Arranging everything on a two-top can be a challenge. Our menus even were never removed for the length of the meal. Raw oysters clearly shucked well ahead of time. I'm guessing maybe a few hours, as they weren't bad, they were just not entirely fresh and were a bit dried out. Crab and cornbread is as good as others say. Didn't care much for the Eberly salad; a bit hard to eat and not as much flavor as the description would indicate. Daily specials add a lot to the menu. Path from front to bathrooms is a bit confusing. Walk through the plating/serving area among all the waitstaff, or try to navigate around the tables and people in the main room. Once there, the co-ed bathroom is nicely designed, but really not a good idea. I think they're getting a lot of press because of the attractive space and interesting decor. Service and food are struggling a bit to keep up. We'll be back, it's a convenient and interesting restaurant. But I'm waiting to be a bit more wowed before hiking them to 4 stars. read more

My boyfriend surprised me with reservations here for our 2 year anniversary. Eberly really rolled out the red carpet for us (as I'm sure they do for all of their guests). We were greeted by Valet, promptly seated as soon as we walked in the door, handed personalized menus that said "Happy Anniversary" and treated to complimentary glasses of prosecco. I mean wow. All of this was only the first 10ish minutes of our experience. We started with mussels and octopus, both were delicious and perfect proportions for appetizers. For entree I had the filet and my boyfriend ordered the scallops, which were both phenomenal and again, great proportions for the cost. After dinner, we treated ourselves to drinks at the bar in the back and both enjoyed the ambiance of the room as well as the drinks themselves. Basic overpriced, generic American Nuveau food. Portions are small and the dishes are not very inspired. Our waiter warned us that the 28 dollar Salmon was not very big and he'd suggest adding more protein. I don't get why you wouldn't just give a larger portion if it's supposed to be a main. Absolutely stunning and intimate atmosphere with A+ service and food. We came to celebrate someone's birthday dinner (party of 9) and they made sure we were very well taken care of. I tried the flight of Pinot (recommend) and we shared a charcuterie board which was delicious. The sirloin tartar was great, could have used a bit more of an umami kick to it, but still fantastic. At first, I wasnt very sure about this place. The reviews and menu seemed kind of average. We had a reservation here for my birthday so on the menu in the right corner there was a little personalized message that said Happy Birthday. I thought it was really cute. The restaurant was also very nicely decorated and classy with great ambiance. Our waitress was great about coming by to refill our waters. We got the cheese board and I had the grilled salmon as an entre. The cheese board was really good. It came with a decent portion of 3 cheeses and little pickles, pecans, ham, 3 meats, crackers and bread. The crackers and bread are refillable. I really liked the crackers. They were unique and very well seasoned. The roasted salmon with veggies were alright. There wasn't really anything spectacular about it. The portion size was pretty normal (or small if you're comparing to other restaurants). After we finished they brought out a small dessert (I believe it was fudge?) to celebrate my birthday. Eberly won't disappoint. Look, I'm old enough to remember when there was no valet parking in Austin, and I kind of liked it to be honest. So stopping by Eberly recently for a networking event and seeing the backed-up valet line gave me a pause. But I've been here a long time and know if you look around opportunity knocks. Like, say, just next door where Eberly allows self-park in the large lots adjacent to it. Problem solved. But valets mean snooty people, high prices and a lot of food we can't eat or recognize, right? Well, yes and no. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there. Staff was nice, and prompt, and everyone I met at the networking and in the rest of the place was actually very nice and approachable. Maybe not an "old Austin" feel but definitely relaxed and not snooty. Expensive? Yes. One look at the over the top fabulous interior design and furniture will tell you you're not in a hole in the wall and you will pay for that. Somebody has to - it's just sumptuous inside. It might not be my normal stop but I will never hesitate to take a date or client here: it's beautiful. The food - appetizers all - we were not there to dine - was delicious. A nice variety, decently-sized and just good. No complaints. The whole vibe was warm and friendly which came in handy on a dark and dreary evening. Will this be your fave place to be? I don't know. I went recently with my bestie and we ordered the pastry basket and it comes with decent mini muffins, weird savory scones with basil, a giant dry looking donut and hard, wet poppyseed lemon cake slice. Please learn how to make a good poppyseed lemon loaf. Please. It's not that difficult and the one you serve is just disgusting. I ordered avocado toast which would have been better without the awful green paste smudged on top. Don't ruin a perfect simple dish. The service was also extremely slow. Setting the scene, the wife and I were celebrating our 7th year anniversary and was looking for the right balance between great food, good drink selection, and unique atmosphere. Enter Eberly.... First, you drive up to the while building with the golden letters of Eberly. Smiling valet and happy people coming out of the restaurant...a good start to the experience. Walking through the doors, the hostess is engaging right away. As they figure our where to sit me and my beautiful lady, we take in the restaurant scene....an open kitchen, classy feel, slightly retro. Fast forward..the meal was delicious as we ordered a steak for two that was perfectly prepared and topped with a mustard sauce along with sides of mushrooms and other vegetables. The Bacio was a delicious bourbon based cocktail that used a very refreshing shrub mixer. So good in fact that this was my drink the entire night as I closed out the trifecta! Spent my husband's birthday meal here. Made our reservations via OpenTable. Started waiting for our table at the old bar at the back of the restaurant. It is a very lovely piece of furniture. The dining room is very loud but I love the atmosphere. The staff is friendly and helpful. For our birthday meal we did three starters and one entree. We got a dozen oysters, the tuna tartare and watermelon crab. The tuna tartare has a great kick to it. It was probably my favorite. Even though the watermelon crab is a close second. We then ordered the halibut and ordered a side of sprouts & cauliflower. Overall a great meal. They surprised my husband with a grasshopper desert. My husband loved it. A very nice experience. Came here for brunch with a big group to celebrate a birthday right before heading to ACL on a Sunday. It was one of the best decisions we made all weekend. Our waitress was SO incredible - she was friendly, tentative and wasn't annoyed by the lot of us. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful. Every single inch of it. They have a greenhouse room that we weren't seated in, but next time I'm in Austin, we'll be returning and requesting to sit there! It had so much natural light and lots of small touches that I fell in love with. The rest of the place is also unique and charming. The food was next level. Or maybe I was hungover? So, sue me. BUT We started with carafes of mimosa and most of us got coffee. The mimosas were the perfect ratio of champagne to oj -- not too much oj (some places are guilty of this when serving mimosas at high capacity) and the coffee was just right, too. Next, we got the donut which I think was the pastry that day. It was incredible. I could of just had another donut and been so content with Eberly. I am not a donut person. At all. But this was insanely delicious. We were all fighting over the last bite. I had half of the croque-madame sandwich and half of the fried chicken & waffles. The croque-madame was my favorite of the two, but I was so glad I was able to try both because the fried chicken & waffles were really good too. The fried chicken was battered nicely and the waffles weren't anything special, but paired together, it was a really great contrast to my sandwhich. We also got a side of the breakfast potatoes, the spices were sooo good. I think between everyone at the table we probably ordered everything besides the frittata and we all seemed to really love our meals. read more

We celebrated my birthday for brunch here on Sunday and I was so impressed! The food quality is superb and the service is above par! The building is gorgeous and perfect for photos. The service was great as the servers were quick to get and drop off our food and drinks for brunch. Definitely recommend getting the biscuits. Even though you only get 3 of them, the jam and butter with it are insane. Got the omelette with mushrooms and a side salad. Perfect plating, but only ate half of it as I got an ick that my omelette was not cooked all the way. However, I think it was cheese. My sister got the Eberly Breakfast and there is something about those grits.. that are good!! Never had better grits. Wish the greenhouse ambiance was carried throughout the restaurant as I was seated at the corner of it but still decent. The restrooms are a bit darker lit than normal. The $12 mimosa is debatable.. but when you want a drink, you just get it. Willing to try out again for dinner but that's about it. read more

Eberly is hands down the best restaurant I've been to in Austin. Just to begin, when you walk in, you're taken aback by the beauty in this building, if you walk towards the center of the restaurant, you'll notice the most amazing 'greenhouse' type room which then leads into the back bar area. The history of the bar is just incredible on it's own (made of mahogany, built in 1866 shipped from Greenwich Village in New York City. In NYC, that bar was the hangout for many notable artists, abstract expressionists, beat writers and folk musicians, such as a few little known people like Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Jackson Pollock!) I was so impressed with the service and how much attention is put on all of the details. We were lucky enough to get a tour of the place and on a Friday night, I was surprised that the other bar (speakeasy type room) and the rooftop bar weren't open, those look like some really awesome chill spots. If you're coming here, I'd stick to buying a bunch of appetizers for the group. My entree was good but no comparison to the items that we all shared together. Lastly but most importantly, this might be the best old fashioned I've had in Austin (that wasn't smoked). I'll be back often to Eberly! Do note that they change their menu a lot so it's almost a surprise as to what you'll be offered but go crazy, try new things! read more

My favorite restaurant in Austin. We go mostly for special occasions (pre-COVID) and random evenings when we're free. The food and drinks are always exceptional and the staff is fantastic. The chef is wonderful. I have a very rare food allergy that is fatal and they always do an incredible job to take great care with our food and the service we receive is always above par. read more
