    Ten Don & Custard Pudding
    Dana S.

Japanese fast food featuring tempura bowls and curry, also some desserts. In general I don't love deep-fried foods but sometimes I like tempura, so I gave this a try. Ordered the ten don - prawns (4) and vegetable (green beans and 1 pc sweet potato) on rice. The batter was light and crispy but on the oiler side for tempura. I personally would've traded one of the prawns for more vegetables, but I was happy with the portion size. Overall nothing memorable but not bad. I also grabbed a pudding cup (from Cake Ya, a local producer of Japanese desserts), which was good - their desserts are high quality and taste fresh even though they're packaged. Service was okay - reasonably fast. The restaurant including the washroom were very clean. I like that they use real bowls for dining in even though it's kind of a fast food place.

This was a great find on Robson Street. We were looking for a quick bite on our way to some shops and I was instantly sold once I saw the Katsu Curry on the sign outside. We were greeted by a very friendly staff and our food was ready in just a few minutes. I quickly realized why the curry is their top seller and said to myself: "I must have this one more time before we fly home in 4 days". This will definitely be on our "must list" for our next trip to Vancouver!

My go to place for a quick curry fix when visiting Vancouver. This is approximately my 3rd time back Very consistent, reasonably priced dishes, staff always efficient and polite.

Oh.my.gosh. If I lived in Vancouver, I would eat here everyday! The sushi here was so fresh, tasty and well priced at around $4 per roll. I just came from the airport and had a few hours to chill, so I sat here and ate roll after roll for three hours, lmfao. The staff was so friendly, and again-- the food was fantastic! I would surely be a regular if I lived in the area. Definitely a popular spot around lunch time!

If you want a quick Japanese grab & go food, Ebi Ten is perfect. The price & portion are good. The food tasted good. - Tonkatsu curry: pork katsu were crispy yet the meat was tender. The curry sauce was thick (not watered down) - tasted ok. - Cheese katsu curry: the pork katsu was crispy & tender. I wish they put more cheese on the katsu. Again, the curry wasn't mu favorite. - Teriyaki chicken: hubby's favorite! The chicken was well cooked. The pieces were tender & flavorful. - Karaage bento: it came with 3 big pieces of crispy karaage. The meat was tender & well seasoned. - California roll: the rolls were rather small sized but taste wise, they were good roll. We bought the food to-go few times and our order came out pretty fast. We ordered via Uber Eats one time and everything was packed properly and was still warm when we got it.

Dropped by here yesterday for a quite bite, they have a machine to quickly make shrimp tempura and to assemble the bowl it took them almost no time, so if u were in a rush, this is the place to eat at. I ordered Mega Bowl, there are tempura shrimp, tempura green beans, greens, rice, tofu with minced pork and teriyaki chicken. Every bite is a new experience, the tempura is so delicious, there is sweet Mayo between the teriyaki chicken and the greens, trust me stirring them up and eat it, it is amazing! It is a pretty big bowl I couldn't finish the rice in the end. Will def come back again.

Great place for lunch. I was recently visiting the area, walked by, and was drawn to this restaurant. They're conveniently fast. I sat there for a bit watching them push out one order after another for lunch. The prices are very fair, and you do get a lot of food. I had already eaten something not long before, but I had to try their Sushi Rolls. It was just 6 pieces, but quite delicious. The menu is small and very simple. The lady at the counter kept me waiting for a bit, even though I was the only person in line. That was a bit annoying....

Ebi Ten's a packed place to go for lunch when you're downtown. Or at least it was pre-covid. It's located on Robson Street, a pretty busy part of downtown, so expect a line if you come during rush hour. However, the line does go by fairly quickly, so props to them for handling the massive influx of people coming in. I ordered a Curry Udon for $11 and got my order within 5 minutes, so it's pretty good if you're in a rush. It came with the typical curry/udon toppings like corn and potatoes. I found that the Japanese curry didn't mix well with the broth, but hey it's Japanese Curry Udon, so I got what I asked for. Aside from that, it was your typical udon noodles with deep-fried pork cutlet and ramen toppings.

Deluxe curry on rice (prawn tempura, deep fried pork cutlet, egg, curry). Take-out style.

Ebi-Ten is one of my recently discovered go-to lunch spots and it definitely hits all the mark if you want: -food served fast. -affordable prices. -tasty fried food. I've ordered and personally demolished the following items in the past few weeks: 1) Deluxe Curry on Rice (5/5) This is my favorite dish to get so far, however you better proceed with caution unless if you want a nice nap afterwards. There are 2 pieces of ebi tempura, deep fried pork cutlet, an egg, with the Japanese curry bringing it all together on top of rice. The tempura and pork cutlet are both fried well. This is a simple, hearty meal that you cannot go wrong with. 2) Meat Curry on Rice (3/5) This dish is similar to the Deluxe Curry dish above. The major difference is that there's only sliced beef, deep fried pork culet, and curry over rice. The sliced beef is mediocre and the curry overshadows the beef. 3) Mega Bowl (4/5) If you're someone who loves variety, wants to try all the items on the menu, and appreciates affordable pricing, then the Mega Bowl is for you. This bowl contains teriyaki chicken, mixed tempura, spicy tofu, salad, and rice. The spicy tofu acts as a delicious "sauce" or "curry" on top of the rice. The teriyaki chicken is dry but there's good flavor. And, do not fret, there are greens with mayo on top so you'll definitely get your fiber intake! The ingredients are not the highest quality. However, at the end of the day, with great prices and tasty food, Ebi-Ten does not disappoint. I will continue to come back!

(way overdue, pre-COVID review) TL;DR: Tempura bits make everything better. Came here on Christmas Eve when one of the sushi places I was trying to go to wasn't open. Props to them for being open on a holiday! I ordered the Ebiten bowl, which came with chicken teriyaki, big pieces of ebi tempura, and rice. The chicken teriyaki is super flavourful, and it mixes super well with the rice. The ebi tempura tastes like it's fried with clean oil (yay!), but gets soft pretty fast. While the proteins were great, the thing that made the meal super satisfying was the tempura bits they served on the side. Throughout the meal, I found myself constantly mixing fresh tempura bits into the rice, along with the leftover chicken teriyaki sauce and mayo. Since the bits were so crunchy, I didn't really mind that the tempura was a little soft. I could see these making a plain onigiri or curry bowl at least 100% better. Overall a very good, nostalgic experience for me, since I used to eat there almost every week during an internship. It's nice to see that their quality has stayed consistent over the years!

    Karaage
    Sachi N.

I used to LOVE their takeout karaage. They were one of the BEST. Then one day it wasn't that great anymore. But I went again yesterday, wasn't going to get karaage, but just had to give it one more try. It was marvelous again!!! YAY! I also tried the ebi (shrimp) curry and this is now my favorite dish. I loved the tartar sauce even though I usually don't like it too much. It tasted like it's home made - and it goes well with curry - to my surprise! Only thing is, they used to be cheap but not so much now. At least you don't need to tip.

Really enjoy the katsu curry, and the mega bowl at Ebi-Ten. The curry here is very good, as are other items. The cooks are quick too.

Ordered the beef bowl and katsu with curry and both dishes were great! We were not expecting the food to be that well made. They could have given us more beef for the beef bowl but overall it was fine for the price. Would order again.

We arrived around 2 PM for our reservation and were greeted warmly right away, which made for a great first impression. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The bamboo divider running through the middle of the space gave it a cozy, modern Japanese-inspired feel, and the overall atmosphere was probably my favorite part of the experience. As for the food, unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. I ordered the seafood sizzler bowl, and while it wasn't bad by any means, it felt underwhelming for the price. The bowl was mostly rice, with a few small prawns, tiny scallops, a little roe, and some crab mixed in. I was expecting something more seafood-forward, so it ended up feeling more like a deconstructed fried rice than the premium dish I had envisioned. Same with the unagi bowl, couple small pieces of unagi cut up... The appetizers were actually the highlight of the meal and ended up being more memorable than my main course. I kept waiting for a dish to really wow me, but nothing stood out enough to make me crave a return visit. Maybe I just ordered the wrong items, because I know this place has plenty of fans. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, but based on this visit, I don't see myself making a special trip back.

Maybe it's an American thing to linger and enjoy a dining experience. To stay longer than needed to…read moresoak up the ambiance and give a good moment some extra time for memories. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

Me, I know nothing about Izakaya or what is or isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, so this review is coming from someone with zero knowledge or expectation of any specific foods or experiences. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).

We picked up the 16-piece Premium Cut Rolls (toro, yellowtail, scallop, and truffle lobster), and the quality really showed in the taste. Everything was clean, fresh, and well-balanced -- no heavy sauces, no distractions, just really good fish. The toro was rich and smooth, the scallop was buttery, and the truffle lobster added a nice depth without overpowering the roll. Pickup was quick and seamless, and the food was packaged well for eating on the go before a flight. Portions are standard, but the flavor and quality are absolutely the highlight here. If you care more about how sushi tastes than flashy extras, Hello Nori is a great choice. Would happily come back next time.

Every guest is seated around the bar where they can watch the rolls being made fresh. Upon being seated you place your order by marking a piece of paper. We started off with cocktails: kaiju en neguroni and peach pafekuto and they were both refreshing. We each ordered a few rolls and my fave is the unagi hand roll. The unagi was flame-torched right in front of me. Prices are on the expensive side with small portions, but everything tasted fresh.

Even on a Thursday night, the restaurant was nearly full, which speaks to its popularity. I ordered the Tako Sunomono and the Premium Chirashi Don. Tako Sunomono: The octopus was perfectly tender and the vinegar dressing was refreshing--exactly what I needed to wash away the fatigue of the day. Premium Chirashi Don: The presentation was stunning and immediately worked up my appetite. Every piece of seafood was incredibly fresh and of high quality. You can really taste the difference here. If you're looking for healthy, fresh, and beautifully presented Japanese cuisine, Shizenya is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
