My first film at Sundance couldn't have been in a better theater then Eccles! Even with waiting in line for what seemed forever, I was totally digging the crowds vibe of excitement and anticipation. A massive tent was set up to house us ticket holders and they were smart enough to have a little snack bar. You could grab something before waiting in line. Just when I couldn't stand there any longer, finally we were let out and up the stairs into this grand theater. I don't know but I'm sure it was excitement of my first film, I don't remember the lobby looked like. Then I heard someone mention that this is a High School theater. WHaAT!?! It was way too clean, too elegant, too much in perfect condition, the sound, and the seats were so comfy. A few of the actors and director were there to say a little something. Then the film began, it was about this teenage girl and her family dealing with her being a lesbian in a African American community. It was very powerful and in my opinion deserving of all the awards it could get! If this was what Sundance was going to be then I would have been a happy man... sadly, from here on it was downhill.

Great venue and what I will remember it for is the premiere of our film "The Birth of a Nation." It worked well for the intros and the Q&A but most importantly the sound and screen were perfect to immerse one into the film itself and make the fact that you are in a theatre go away for the time you are a part of the story.

Hope you're wearing comfortable shoes! You'll be standing for a bit!

Fun space for events in Park City. I would love to go to a high school that has such a great theater space!

I paid $56x2 for a middle school production of Elf. What?…read more I saw elf with my entire family over the holidays and it was horrible. For $10, maybe passable. But to charge trusting patrons for quality theater at an iconic theatre and then force them to watch a juvenile production of Elf was not fun to experience. The singing was bad. Only 2 actresses were standout. It was a tough watch. Many people in front of us left after intermission. A tough watch. A tough price. It has shaken my trust of local theatre and I'd be extremely weary of another Egyptian Theatre production before visiting again.

I purchased my ticket directly at the box office which I loved, but personally was bummed when it was still an electronic ticket that I had to deal with. Personally, I love paper tickets. The theatre is small, much smaller than I anticipated so really any seat was great. The acoustics were great and overall everyone there was just there to have a good time. Being tall, I made sure to sit on the end of the row. But I will say, I thought the seating to be more comfortable than I anticipated. I didn't drink, but got a soda which was $3. I didn't think that was awful given I was in a theatre AND I was in Park City. The only downside was the pre-show which began with them asking for money. I assume this is because most folks are locals and they are a non-profit. All wonderful things, but it felt super salesly and honestly, I didn't come for a sales pitch I just wanted to hear some great live music, which fortunately I did.
