This is one of the most unique breweries in NJ, and if you are a beer nerd like I am, this needs to be on your list of places to try when in the Garden State. Tucked away at the end of Merchantville's tiny business district in an old house, it has a small beer garden and even smaller indoor taproom. Seriously, the taproom is about the size of my living room. But that makes it all the more intimate and unique. I live a few miles away so I've been here several times over the years, most recently last night. What is seriously impressive is that such a small brewery packs an astonishing 20 taps into their space. And amongst the 20, almost no two beers are alike. There was a NA root beer, a hard seltzer (tapped, unfortunately), a DIPA, a Mexican lager, a wit, a Maibock, a stout, and on and on and on. If you can't find something you like here, you probably won't find it anywhere. Maybe because it's summer, and maybe because it's hard to find them at other breweries, but the true standouts for me last night were the fruit beers. The blueberry wheat and the blueberry peach saison were both outstanding with nuanced fruit flavor. The real showstopper, though, was the Raspberry Drizzle, a daggum 18% barley wine. I've had many barley wines over the years all over NJ, but never one that was raspberry flavored, never one that was this high ABV, and never one this flipping delicious. Trust me, it'll knock your socks off, and then it'll knock you out. Chris was the bartender last night and was great. Super friendly and attentive our whole time there. I don't think they distribute their beers to liquor stores or bars or restaurants, so you'll definitely have to make the trip to visit this place. It looks like you can get growlers and crowlers to go. But definitely a trip worth making. read more

Located in a what was once upon a time the former EMS headquarters, Eclipse Brewing brews light beers, dark beers, hoppy beers, sweet as honey beers, and fruity tropical beers. Inside the Cape Cod style building, the tasting room is cozy and humble, with a few tables and chairs along with counter seating. Counting 18 taps behind the bar, one tap is for soda and the other 17 are for beers. With a week-to-week changing menu, something can be found for everyone. Outside, there is plenty Adirondack chairs and at picnic tables. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and are able to recommend a beverage. The beers are fun! I stopped in here while on a beer tour of the Philadelphia area. Location is basically a converted house into a tasting room. The living room is the tasting room and the brewery is in the garage. The owner happened to be around when we stopped in. A very social gentlemen who just kind of happen to fall into brewing. He has two wall maps where he ask people to pin where they are from. For a small brewery, a large number of people from countries I did not expect have stopped in. The tap list is located on a sign outside and on the wall to the left when you walk in. For more of a nanobrewery, they have a large selection of different beers on tap. I enjoyed the four different beers I tasted. Of the four breweries on my day trip, I enjoyed this one the most. The low key atmosphere, good beer, and location in a converted house is a great stop if our in the area. Inside is not to big but located in the side yard are tables and chairs. The parking lot is to the side and it looks like it is a shared lot with the neighboring business. You could almost miss this place because it looks like the neighboring homes. The owner, when asked, said the neighbors are ok with the idea of a nanobrewery in the area. It is definitely worth stop if your in the area. read more

There's a small parking lot off to the side - slightly confusing since the parking meters said for St Clair customers only. We ordered a flight for $6 and ordered the following Coconut Cream Ale - pretty light beer with a hint of coconut. Definitely get the coconut from the smell but a good refreshing drink. Coffee Cream Ale - definitely smells like coffee and has a great initial coffee taste. This is probably my favorite out of the 4. Peach Jalapeño - smells like Peach but a very faint Peach taste. I didn't taste the jalapeño though so that was a little disappointing. Raz Hi Honey - get a bit of the raspberry and the honey notes but not my favorite per se. We thought it would be a good combination to mix the coffee and the coconut and it was really good but would probably recommend a 1:2 Coffee: Coconut ratio since the Coffee is a stronger beer. By far the most consistently good beers. Hardly ever encounter a dud. Sours, stouts, hoppy IPAs, even seltzers. All great. Very very friendly personal touch kind of vibe. Went on an early Friday afternoon and had plenty of seating. What I loved was that this brewery still served flights! Which lots of places aren't currently doing which is a bummer for people who are new to the brewery and want to taste a few before committing to a whole pint. So yay to Eclipse brewing! Eclipse is actually adorable. The brewer Chris and his associate Beth couldn't be more friendly if they tried. The brewery itself, which opened last October, is a teeny tiny operation in a repurposed home/municipal building right near the center of Merchantville. And the beers? Awesome. They have room for up to 18 taps right now but many of the beers had kicked by the time we arrived yesterday. The beers are crafted in small batches and are seriously top quality. Of their current offerings, I'd have to recommend the cream ale the most. This is one of their allegedly "boring" beers, per the brewer, but I disagree. I found it super drinkable and the perfect level of sweet. Their coconut cream is even really nice..and I don't like coconuts usually! If you like hops, you're in luck. If you like milds, you're in luck. And if you like a malt-forward brew, you're also in the right place. Their nitro porter is excellent. The oatmeal stout is pretty heavy but good in small doses. And the English mild and saison are both tasty and unique. If you're not a big beer drinker, try the light lager or one of their session beers. Or even their 0% abv lemon soda! They really have something for everyone. Chris knows what he's doing, from what I've tried thus far! While there, be sure to pin your hometown on one of their three maps. What a cool interactive way to engage with brewery guests! Do the tour too. It's very brief and neat to see the innards of a nano. I'll surely be back soon to try more. Eclipse was the final stop of a Jersey tour of breweries, and it was also my favorite. You can't beat the prices, the flavors, the people, or the homey feel of their quaint set-up. I had the pleasure of chatting with Beth, who alongside her husband, established Eclipse Brewing a little over two years ago. You might miss it if you blink, but you'll be missing out if you do. Snag a full pour or a flight of 4 for around $5, and make yourself comfortable at the bar with both local regulars and travelling beer aficionados. One of my favorite things about the brews at Eclipse, beyond the bold flavors, is they don't mess around with fancy names for their beers; you always know what you're drinking, and to be honest, there is something for everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed their Raspberry Drizzle (an 18% ABV Barleywine) - it was sweet and smooth. I also tapped their Imperial Pumpking, Raz Hi Honey, Coconut Cream Ale, and Apricot Pale Ale. I loved the sweet, but not overpowering, notes of Coconut in the cream ale, and the Pumpking was a very easy drink. The Apricot Pale Ale was my favorite; shocking because a pale ale would not be my typical go-to. This spot is small, but quaint, and offers the local flair that is often missing in sleepy towns like Merchantville. While I didn't have the pleasure of meeting her husband, Beth, the co-owner, was so pleasant, willing to chat, and curious about her customers. There were a couple of folks at the bar who said "See ya next time, Beth!," and that is the kind of business I like to give my time and money too. I will definitely be back. Eclipse Brewing is very unique from all other breweries that I have visited. It's actually built inside an old cape cod house, which actually was a municipal building at some point. Merchantville is also a really cool small town, which I would not have visited normally unless I had been going to the Eclipse Brewing. Other breweries seem to have had a larger initial investment. Eclipse is more like a "dive brewery," but in the sense where everyone is welcome, and it's not snobby or intimidating. As soon I walked in, I was greeted and included in the conversation right away. The owner will show you around, too, if you'd like. They have a very large list of beers for being a small brewery. They're all fun, creative, and drinkable. Although it may be true that the real beer snobs might have their objections with the beers, I think there's something to be said for the fact you can sample all these neat, creative ones. The coconut beer was my favorite, and it was made with real toasted coconut, and not artificial syrups. Flights are only $5, which is cheap. If the beer as a higher ABV, they actually just give you less volume of it. See my picture with the fill lines. Having just opened October 9th, Eclipse has a strong following - my fiance and I included. He is the driver so maybe his following is more important than mine! My first visit with Kathleen D.and Sari A. included a long intimate chat with Chris the owner/brewer. He wants his brewery to be just like if you were drinking his beer at his home. Intimate. Relaxed. And he has accomplished just this and more, in my opinion. I could talk all day about how kind, compassionate, and dedicated Chris actually is. Make Eclipse your next brewery stop even if you aren't from the area! Its the little blue house and park in the lot to the left. Though Eclipse is a tiny brewery, Chris has some serious production going on here. Not in terms of quantity but in terms of variety. Bring anyone who drinks beer here and there will be something that they like. His tour is tiny like his brewery (his joke). Take a look around the tasting room and you will see all the beautiful blackboard art - a special contribution from Chris' daughter. If you want to look like a pro walk over to the bar and reach into the little cardboard box for a white slip. Fill in your beer request for a flight or if you are less adventurous ask for a full pour. Their cream ale and any coconut variety available today is a safe bet. Loooking for the definition of a neighborhood bar in all regards except for it being a brewery?Well look no further than at Eclipse. We have been going almost weekly for nearly three years, and while that might the first step to something, it also shows that it's our favorite spot! Eclipse Brewery has everything you could ask for in a brewery. Good beer, friendly staff, friendly owners, weekly events, low prices, and even ample parking. In addition, they're right in the hub of Merchantville, and within walking distance of eateries that also deliver if you don't want to miss out on valuable drinking time. The size of the beer varies based on the ABV, but they're all $5 each for a full pour, and $3 for a half pour. Flights are only $6 too! My absolute favorites are the Red Rye Ale and the Fest, but they have a good amount of IPAs and porters if that's more what you're looking for. The coconut cream ale and apricot ale are also classic favorites. Without easily listing the rest of the beer menu as my favorites as well, I'll stop here so you can leave something to the imagination. When spring came around last year, the owners left out tons of vegetables from their garden for anyone to take home. Think going to Whole Foods, but with a beer in your hand. It was the healthiest I've been all my life! The venue has two tables, and four barrels converted into tables, along with a bar that seats 10ish. I do not have a great palate for beer, so the fact that I loved Eclipse's beers so much means that they must be really good! I had a flight, then a 12oz pour of their coconut cream ale. I often feel that beers that boast certain flavor profiles don't really deliver, but these definitely did! The blackberry sour, tropical dream sour, Almond Joy porter and coconut cream ale were bursting with flavor. The owner was behind the bar and she is just delightful. I can't believe this place has been open for two years and I didn't know about it. They are making terrific, interesting beer here. Several strong beers, and most of them don't taste as strong as they are, something which seems to be difficult for most breweries to accomplish. There seems to be a lot of experimentation here. Located in a house this is by far one of the cutest breweries I've been to! They have a good selection of beers with a wide range of alcohol levels (raspberry is my favorite). They have seats at the bar, three barrels, and two long tables. It's small, but there is plenty of space to sit. They also have a few games to play.
