No free breakfast, no coffee forcing me to wander the streets and restaurants of Canmore. Eclipse is a nice little coffee shop located on the main drag of Canmore. The street is closed to vehicular traffic. Parking is available on the parallel streets with not too far of a walk. It is confusing as the address is on Main Street, but, Google maps shows it as 8th Street. Their coffee was good. It had enough caffeine to wake me up. The flavor of my coffee was nice. Service was good. My only complaint was that the cup was small and I was almost done with the cup before I got back to the hotel. Good stuff.

It was a little bit of a bummer that they only had 2 options for pour overs. The Brazil pour over, one of the "balanced" blends, was meh. Unfortunately I did not get any of the tasting notes out of the pour over. I will say the service was great - the employees were kind and the drink came out relatively fast for how busy it was.

Here we are, back in Cochrane, again for hockey and found this gem again!!!! Be prepared to wait as they are always busy and there's no drive through here BUT your coffee and food will be made to perfection! This visit there was a hiccup with their blender and it took 20 minutes to get the pineapple matcha smoothie but life happens. My Italian avocado toast with a poached egg was HEAVENLY. I looooove that they use sourdough! Hubs had their house roasted coffee and chose cinnamon hazlenut. Hubs only complaint (as a diabetic) is their only sugar substitute was sugar twin which is YUCK - truly. It would be better if they had Splenda. I noticed a sign that on Sundays they serve waffles! I bet it is lined up out the door to get a spot. The upstairs loft is adorable and great spit out of the hustle and bustle of the wrap around line downstairs. To be honest, the latte was pretty mid. The milk was very overpowering (probably not the correct ratio between the espresso shots and milk). The espresso lacked flavor and richness and tasted like something you could make at home with a can of store bought espresso ground. The price point is actually a little higher than other boutique coffee shops/roasters in the area with superior coffee beans. While we had high expectations based on other reviews, this is sadly not my cup of coffee.

I try to eat vegetarian in the morning, and I'm allergic to wheat, which makes dining out a little more complicated than it should be. My boyfriend found this little café outside Banff, and honestly, it turned out to be one of the better food surprises of the trip. We both ordered the Pad Thai -- one loaded with extra protein, one without. I had low expectations. I've eaten enough Thai food to know that about 7 or 8 out of 10 places overcook the noodles. They become soft, mushy, and fall apart the moment you touch them. Not here. The noodles were cooked perfectly -- still chewy with a nice bite. The peanut sauce was another pleasant surprise. It wasn't overly sweet or heavy like many North American versions. The balance was just right. The spice level was mild, which I appreciated because the dish actually tasted like Pad Thai instead of being buried under a mountain of chili. The vegetables were generous, fresh, and plentiful. My boyfriend's chicken portion wasn't huge, but there was plenty of tofu, which made sense since the dish is originally designed as a vegetarian option. The chef seemed to add the chicken as an extra rather than making it the star of the plate. The portion looked manageable when it arrived. It was not. I couldn't finish mine, and my boyfriend had to rescue the remaining noodles. Pad Thai: 4/5 The Vegan Berry Scone was light, not greasy, and not overly sweet. The strawberries and blueberries added little bursts of tartness, and there was a nice oat flavor throughout. My only complaint? It might have been too healthy. A tiny bit more sweetness could have taken it from "good" to "wow." Vegan Berry Scone: 3/5 The Vegan Chocolate Cake was exactly what a chocolate lover would want. Rich dark chocolate flavor without being sugary or overwhelming. It was a little dense and heavy, but in a comforting way that made me keep reaching for another bite. If the cake itself were slightly more moist, it would be nearly perfect. That said, making something both vegan and gluten-free that tastes this good deserves credit. Vegan Chocolate Cake: 4/5 What really impressed me was the overall value. Since the café is outside the main Banff tourist zone, prices are much more reasonable, parking is easy, and they offer a surprisingly large selection of gluten-free and vegan options. For someone like me, who usually spends half the meal interrogating the menu, that alone is worth celebrating. Final Rating: 4/5 Good food, fair prices, easy parking, and plenty of options for people with dietary restrictions. I'd absolutely come back. In fact, if I'm passing through again, I probably won't bother looking for another place.
