Eclipse is still a solid choice in the Embarcadero area of SF, even if you're not staying at the Hyatt Regency it's located in. When I worked in SF, RB and I would meet here for drinks and a bite after work periodically, and popping into Eclipse is a must every time we stay at the Regency when we're celebrating a special occasion, most recently RB's birthday this year. Located in the beautiful, expansive atrium of the impressive Hyatt Regency on the Embarcadero, this is the perfect spot to settle in for some drinks, bites, or a full dinner. Also a very fun spot for people-watching, seeing travelers and conference-goers come and go. Open late. If you're staying at the hotel, you can get a beverage and take it up to your room. They're also open for breakfast, which is awesome when staying at the hotel. There's always a good number of people here, which is a good sign. So when you frequent a hotel bar when your not even a guest you know it is decent. During our last stay at the Hyatt we hit up the bar a few times. But as mentioned above, we have stopped in here even when we weren't staying here. Along the Embarcadero, not on the water, but the inside of the Hyatt makes up for it. One of the best indoor atriums around. The bar scene is always very lively and nice areas to sit away from the bar. The service is always great and the kitchen provides. Posted hours are guidelines only. We have been there past 11:30. The music is great. No downer pop. (Think early John Mayer stuff and the like) Use to hang out here a lot when Andrea worked in SF. For those of you into people watching this is the place. As a hotel bar there are always travelers coming here for business and recreation. Personally, we like the convention goers who get out of Kansas once a year away from the family to let their hair down, if you know what I mean. Eh I'm split here. We came here since we had credit through the destination fee of staying in the hotel. The ambiance was great. The interior of the hotel is really nice and this building is huge. Some really neat seating choices too. Service was a complete miss and what is the main reason of the lower star review. Dropped by around 5:30pm during happy hour. Beer was $8, wine was $10. There were two waitresses on the floor. Neither really acknowledged us when we walked over so we sat ourselves down. It wasn't busy at all when we came. Only another 1-2 tables maybe. We were brought waters and menus within several minutes of sitting down. But then we were stuck trying to place our order for what felt like forever because our waitress was nonstop chatting with the staff behind the bar. We made eye contact with one of them and were still ignored. I honestly was close to leaving. It was a ridiculous wait. When she finally came back, we got the fried brussel sprouts to split and some drinks. It was one of the few only vegan options that wasn't a salad. Honestly, the brussel sprouts blew our minds. We weren't expecting much but they were really delicious. Larger portion size than expected with a fantastic yuzu dressing. I wish there were more whole brussel sprouts rather than the shredded leaves. If it weren't for the poor service, this review would be much higher for just the brussel sprouts alone. read more

Okay 5 stars for Roger & the margaritas! I asked for Blanco tequila, simple syrup & lime juice over. And I got it! You'd be amazed at bars that say ok & bring nonsense. The Hyatt is a beautiful hotel and truly a must stay in San Francisco. Whenever I'm there, I always make a point to stop by Eclipse Kitchen & Bar, it's a great spot right inside the hotel. I especially enjoy their cocktails, and they make an excellent lemon drop, definitely my favorite! When it's not too busy, the service is quick and friendly. On my most recent visit, I tried the crab cakes, which come with a side salad. The dish was light, fresh, and very enjoyable. If you're staying at the Hyatt, I highly recommend checking it out. The average score here pretty much sums it up. Average. It's a cool setting within a hotel. I'll give it that. Very unique compared to other hotel sitting experiences. Staff was friendly. Especially as one night it was a crazy conference and they definitely had a lot on their plate. Food was just ok. Chicken wings were tasty but I don't think I have ever seen small wings. Feel like they could have used better more robust chickens. Not baby wings. Also had the chicken sliders. Those were not so great. Super bready and a bit lacking. A bit disappointing. Wish they had a better beer selection on draft. Lastly the dessert, I had the cheese cake. That too was ok, but ultimately just average. Nothing special imo. read more

I have a soft spot for Hyatt hotel restaurants and the Eclipse Kitchen and Bar is no exception. As with the other hotel staff I fou d the servers here to be genuinely nice people who while short staffed did everything they could to take of me while I was there. The waitress we had was very nice and attentive. She was sympathetic to my friend and my rough dinner night and did what she could to make it better. The food was good. I didn't eat at dinner, but I did go there for breakfast. I drank at dinner time and the Moscow mules were perfect. Bright, citrusy, ginger beer goodness with a balance of vodka. I think the breakfast buffet is a bit pricey for what is served but it is solid. I imagine it is a great value if you're eating multiple rounds but for me I eat a plate and then I am full so I never get the buffet value. Yet, it was solid. As I mentioned in the overall Hyatt review the seating is wonderful. There's so much of it that you're not contained if you don't want to be. The stars are honestly for the atmosphere & environment alone! Everywhere you look there's some type of cool architecture or visual illusion that'll make your mouth drop open. Try not to bump into anyone while you're looking up. It's very hard not to! The food smells so good while you're waiting around to be seated. It was quite a long wait even though reservations were made in advance. We had a group of about 10 people so they had to find two tables that could be pushed close-ish together. Service was a little slow. I don't know if it's because we had so many orders (which was really a smorgasbord of appetizers) or if it was a busy night for them. Either way, expect a wait. We got so many things to sample! The spicy Thai chicken wings were deliciously saucy, the fondue was perfectly cheesy and tasty (the pretzel bites not so much), the truffle fries were to die for, and the fried shrimp were huge and crispy. I don't think I took enough pictures but definitely order those off the menu! I had an Arnold Palmer to drink that looked like lemonade but tasted pretty much like water. Disappointing. Especially since it also took a while to be made. Literally got it after all the food had been passed out. All in all, the food was pretty good. Service could use some work. There are many places to get a late afternoon drink at this part of Market Street near the Embarcadero. Most are crowded, noisy and quite unpleasant unless you're into tightly packed 'happy hour' venues with lots of over hyper office workers and out of towners. The eclipse bar is a nice sophisticated option for a good drink and the ability to have decent conversation without yelling. It is pricey as a drink can run more than $20. but what would you expect from a hotel in a downtown big city environment. Having a drink here was quite pleasant, especially with the enormous atrium lobby looming above you. The wait staff/bartenders are very friendly and professional. So a good spot for that drink you may need in a more tranquil setting than a packed bar. read more

Great bar. It is nice that it is not too packed in the hotel so the bar is not overcrowded. Drinks and food come fast. The menu is very limited but everyone in my group was able to find something yummy to eat and drink. The wine by the glass is very overpriced but tastes great. My favorite part of this place is just the ambiance. We also went to their Brunch buffet. It's expensive but there is a huge variety of breakfast and brunch options to choose from and they were all delicious. I loved the selection of fresh fruit too. Eclipse Kitchen is the main sit-down restaurant located on the Atrium of the Hyatt Regency. Its right next to the market and bar area. We came here for breakfast before checking out. Methinks this place offers up some of the most expensive oatmeal and yogurt parfait in the city, at about $12 each. Fortunately, the quality of both are good and portions reasonable. Steel Cut Oatmeals were creamy, and served with lots of sides: brown sugar, nuts, fresh fruit, and raisins. Much better than Bluestone Lane and Starbucks. They were generous with fresh slices of banana, blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries. In a city where $8 Avocado Toast is common, a $12 healthy oatmeal is not too bad. Similarly, I enjoyed the yogurt parfait with granola and fresh fruit. It was served in alternating layers of yogurt and toppings in a beer glass, like a traditional English Trifle dessert, only healthier! I have definitely been here before. I also used to work for Hyatt so I know how the back of the house works. We were sat and ordered cocktails and lite snacks. I had a glass of prosecco and we shared the caesar salad and the truffle fries that was served with aioli. The pot stickers ordered were a bit late. While we had drinks and appetizers previously, due to logistics we decided to eat breakfast at the hotel and discovered their brunch. Very impressive for a reasonable price. They handled our large party with no fuss. Nice selection of tradition breakfast items, eggs sausage, bacon, blueberry pancakes, chocolate crepes, as well as smoked salmon with the fixin's, sweet rolls and meats and cheeses. If you're staying at the Hyatt then Eclipse is a good option for a nightcap or a little something to eat before bed. We had been out sightseeing all day and wanted a little something to eat. We grabbed a seat and were greeted within a few minutes. I had the chicken potstickers and my husband had the pepperoni and sausage flatbread. Both dishes were okay but not worth the price you pay. However, the prices aren't surprising given that this is a hotel restaurant/bar. They have a bunch of TVs above the bar so it's a good place to watch sports. read more

Review #371 - 2018 When I saw their "Breakfast with Santa" ad on Facebook, I knew I wanted to bring the kids over just for the fun experience of enjoying the Christmas spirit. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love the month of December. Of course, Christmas is one of the reason, but December is also my birth month so I get to celebrate two big occasions all month long. I brought my 2-year old daughter and my 9-year old niece on Saturday, December 1st around 11:15 AM and there wasn't very many people with kids so I guess it wasn't as popular as I'd thought. The breakfast bar is not as big as I was expecting, and the selections were very simple. You have the usuals: bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, waffles. They actually had shrimp with grits which was probably my favorite. They had fruits, parfaits, bread and muffins as well. The food itself wasn't that great. The breakfast items didn't seem to stay very warm so it was cold by the time I got back to my table & started eating. Santa came by to sit with us, but the kids weren't on their best behavior & Santa was still trying his best to engage them. I actually felt kind of bad for Santa because the girls were not very attentive. Our server was friendly, and Tony, the manager, was extremely attentive. He made sure that our dining experience was nice and enjoyable. He even kept his eyes on the kids while they were playing under the falling "snow" so I could eat without worrying about them too much since we were seated where I couldn't actually see them. It seems kind of pricey for what you get, but after you factor in the fact that kids eat free for each paying adult, it's not too bad. Kids under 4 eat free, so that was nice because most places only allow kids under 2 to eat free. Came here for after dinner drinks. Had never been to this Hyatt, and I heard banghra music as we went up 2 flights on the escalator. They were having a Yoga convention, as we saw from the signs. As we approached the restaurant/lounge, I was amazed by all the twinkling lights hanging above. Felt like a little kid seeing Christmas lights for the first time. We sat in a comfy couch, although the ones across from each other are quite far, so not really able to have a decent conversation from facing so far apart. A waitress came shortly and took our wine orders. We received our glasses (and water since we were so thirsty!) and bill quickly after. Your standard hotel bar and restaurant. I had breakfast here the first morning at the hotel. I opted for the breakfast buffet - which was pretty good as breakfast buffets go - although very expensive. I had their corned beef hash, which appeared to made from scratch and with real shredded corned beef. I also tried a link of sausage, some bacon, breakfast potatoes, and scrambled eggs, plus a bit of smoked salmon and a glass of pink grapefruit juice. Everything was reasonably hot and tasty. The other times in here were in the evening - a couple of times for a bite to eat and/or drinks. I tried their Burger - I forget what came on it, it was served with some crisp, tasty sweet potato fries and a side of crisp slices of dill pickle. Overall, a good burger . Another evening I got an order of their garlic fries - topped with fresh garlic sauce with herbs in it - very fragrant and pungent - yet the fries still retained that wonderful crispness and texture. They serve a local craft beer here - "Big Daddy IPA" (Speakeasy Ales & Lagers), which is served in bottles. A nice IPA - somewhat on the light side from a hops perspective, but other than that, nicely balanced in terms of citrus and pine notes. They also make a good dirty vodka martini here, although I was disappointed there was no option for blue cheese or gorgonzola stuffed olives (all they offer are standard pimento stuffed olives). Originally commuted to SF just for One Market's Amanda Blake drink but the darn place was closed (Jan. 2) so we had to resort to another place for alcohol nearby. This place is located inside The Hyatt across the street, upstairs. This place is for those that want a quick drink fix however, service was pretty much nonexistent and the wait time felt forever and I am not just saying that because I am an impatient person. Lora ordered the bayberry, I ordered the mojito, and once Sophorn joined, she too had the bayberry. Although in the end Lora and I switched drinks, I enjoyed the bayberry but there was no hint of alcohol, just juice and rather sweet so if you like pineapples and/or a drink that literally has no alcohol then order the bayberry. The girls ordered Thai wings or something which came w/ a heaping amount of crispy wings and drummettes, it came w/ a side of cucumber slaw. I only had a few pieces of the slaw but none of the wings since they are fried and goes against my New Year's resolution. Woot woot for damn willpower. Looooove the decor. There are giant hanging Christmas lights which beautifies the place. During Christmas, they host a snow fall event which is pretty neat for those of us who haven't seen snow (SAD RIGHT?). It's a very chill environment. Our waiter was telling us that a friend of his counted about 64 fries. I would count, but I lost track after 3 because at that point, I was just shoveling up fries. We had looked at the happy hours offerings and nothing seemed that appealing or heavily discounted so we had skipped happy hours and opted to go elsewhere priory to dinner. We were there during last calls and ordered a Karl the Fog and a Bourbon Smash. The drinks took awhile to come and when it did, we realized why. The Karl the Fog is quite a spectacle, it came with a large round block of ice (not the cool clear kind you'd find at a hip bar) and a lid. When the waitress sat it down, she asked if we were ready and lifted the lid and a wisp of smokey cloud starting dissipating out of glass. For $1 more than than Bourbon smash, it was definitely worth it. It was a strong and super smokey drink, but tasty. Bourbon Smash was forgettable. Sketchy. My friends and I went there at around 5. We were staying at the hotel. I heard the lady next to us ask our waiter to see the happy hour menu. He was like, "oh I don't know..." and she replied that the night before, the waitress gave her one. And it WAS happy hour. Till 5:30. It was like he didn't want her to order from the happy hour menu. His reply was, "Okay, let me check." It took awhile for us to get our drinks. They were fine, but when we got our checks, there was an extra $18 charge, $9 each for the beer flights in addition to the $18 they cost. I asked what the extra charges were for. He said it was just marked that way, that if we added them up, the total was right. My friends and I did add all of the drinks up, and there was still the extra charge. He came back, and said, "Oh, yes, there are extra charges. Let me fix that." He may have seen us with our calculator out. In any case, he had them removed. I don't know what he was trying to get away with, but it didn't work. Did he think that because we had drinks, we weren't paying attention?
