When I entered, the hostess said they didn't have any tables free at the time and they only had bar table seating or where they had the couch that's in front of the window with tables in front of it. It wasn't uncomfortable. It was just low and not very balanced with the table in front of it for eating. However, I noticed right on the side of me was a small table for two right next to a window that was empty the entire time I was there soooo...? Anyway I ordered oysters on the half shell as an appetizer. I had to ask for hot sauce and crackers. It took so long for him to come back with crackers so I just ate the oysters without them and had finished them by the time he returned. I ordered the pork chop meal. Great presentation the chop was a nice size and flavorful and the sauce was maybe like a plum sauce reduction maybe and was decent. The mashed potatoes and spinach were all right, nothing special. I didn't finish them though because they were bland and I didn't want to waste time flagging my server down for salt and pepper and waiting for them to return. We had a great meal here. We were staying across the street at the Marriott Marquis hotel, so it was a convenient walk. We ordered from both the Happy hour menu and the regular menu. On the Happy Hour menu we ordered the Carnitas tacos, deviled eggs and a light beer. The pork carnitas tacos were very tasty and a good value. So much so that we ordered an extra serving. The salads were terrific. I ordered the kale salad and added protein- it was delicious. The service was great on all fronts. I really appreciated that the tables were spread out and not on top of one another. We enjoyed The Harlequin so much that we visited the establishment twice during our 6- day work trip. We loved the happy hour vibes. During our HH which turned into dinner visit. We tried and loved the oysters, the buffalo chicken sandwich, the espresso martinis (which are on tap), the Tequila selection, the Old Fashioned, and the HH chicken sliders. During dinner we tried and loved the Margarita pizza, truffle Parmesan fries, the Wedge salad, and a steak and noodle dish. We did not like and would not recommend the Smash Burger. Let me start with my party and I arrived early for our reservations and was carded walking in. I checked in with the hostess and she said our table wasn't ready but we were checked in. While waiting I noticed that the security guy at the door who was "carding" people wasn't carding everyone. Granted my party's age is 35+ so was annoyed that we got carded while others weren't. When our reservation time came, nothing from the hostess. While she sat other parties, I finally had to go back up and ask when our table was ready and of course it was. The place looked like the pictures however the pictures make this place look a lot nicer than what it actually is. And most of it looks better at the bar area than the actual seating area. Popped in on a Sunday before a show and was pleasantly surprised by how good this place is. The Harlequin has that polished mid-century vibe without feeling stuffy, and the happy hour is absolutely worth a detour. It was busy with the convention crowd in full swing, but we still managed to snag a table and settle in for a drink and a bite. We popped up to the bar to get drinks and place food orders, and that was fine by us. Everything came out fairly quick given how busy it was. From the regular menu, the charcuterie board is generous and nicely presented, and all of their pizzas are tasty, especially the seafood one, which I didn't expect to like as much as I did! While I admit we had a group of 8 with us; I saw other tables have similar issues. 20-30 minutes for drinks to come out or simply forgotten. Upon entering we realized we have been here before multiple times back in the day when we were always in SF. Nice place. My partner had a couple of Lemon Drops and I had a tequila and glass of red wine. Too bad the kitchen was closed since a midnight snack would have been good. More drinking establishments need to have some kind of food or packaged snacks to go along with drinks. If there was some snacks we would have stayed longer.
