Every single time I visit my bestie in NYC, stopping by Economy Candy on the Lower East Side is an absolute non-negotiable tradition. We've been coming here together for years, and it honestly never gets old. The history alone is incredible. It started all the way back in 1937 during the Great Depression as a shoe repair shop with a little candy pushcart outside, and it's still run by the same family today. The second you step inside, you are hit with this amazing wall of pure chocolate and sugar nostalgia. They have absolutely everything packed floor-to-ceiling, from retro candies you haven't seen since you were a kid to massive bulk bins and rare international imports. It is loud, chaotic, packed, and easily my absolute favorite spot in the city. You literally cannot leave empty-handed! read more

To be honest this place feels somewhat like a relic from the past. The folks who work here are super helpful and if they have a candy stocked they will know where to find it immediately You can really stock up but really it is best for those who want to find a specific candy from their childhood rather than any modern candies. We've been here twice and left with diabetes lol! Just kidding It is a treat for someone visiting NYC and is in the area but not really some place one would frequent very often read more

((4.5 stars)) if Candyland the game was a place, it would be Economy Candy except everything is not made of candy and of course, you have to pay. the store is clean, fairly large, and well-organized. BUT it feels much smaller because the Economy Candy is often superbusy, filled with tourists and locals alike. the shelves are filled with candy, chocolates, snack foods, confections, and more from floor to ceiling,. great place to find unique candy items as well as to just browse and discover new ones. don't sleep on the loose candy area in the front( that's charged by weight)--lots of variety from Reese's mini buttercups to laffy taffy. the staff, in general, can be helpful but they seem hit or miss in terms of presenting a friendly demeanor. beyond that, this store is unique to the Lower East Side if not all of NYC--worth at least one visit. read more

Wow this is special, truly a gem in the Lower East Side. The moment you walk in as an adult you're transported back to when you were young, to when you were getting cavities due to the amount of candy you were eating. I brought my niece and nephew here and they were enjoying it as much as I was. The service is top notch. A helpful smile and guidance for any of my candy questions. It's fun and bright inside. Such fun candy shop with so many nostalgic candy to choose from. I went in just to look around but couldn't resist coming home with some candy of course! This place seems to have any type of candy you'd want including imported candy and chocolate from Europe. Hubby couldn't resist picking up a few chocolate bars from Germany. Service was fast and friendly. Would return if I was in the neighborhood again. read more

Upon our entrance, the vibe was cold. Especially from the gentleman behind the chocolate treats counter. I just attributed that to a gruff NY personality. Still we browsed around with a shopping basket. The store is small yet spacious and well-organized into clean spaces. I had taken my nephew and two nieces. We purchased a lot of items, including the Economy Candy bag for an additional $1. Some items were weighed on a scale. The young woman behind the counter was so nice. read more

"This place is dangerous!" is what a lady coming out of the store with a bag full of candy told us on our way in. And she was totally right. I had a visitor from Japan who loves Haribo and was looking for the Ginger Lemon flavor, which apparently is only produced in Germany. So we searched online and came across Economy Candy. Considering it's been around since 1937, I don't know how I'd never been here before. It is such a fun store! It's not large, but has floor-to-ceiling shelves and you are surrounded by chocolates and candy. It's a child's dream (and possibly for adults, too). I can't wait to go back again! read more

This place is really fun and interesting to visit. It definitely brings you back to the time when you were little. They also carry a lot of different candies and snacks that you probably can't find anywhere else. They had German Haribo, and I bought the yogurt flavor -- it was really good! We ended up purchasing a bunch of random new things we've never seen before, like Yoohoo chocolate and Sriracha chocolate. I actually liked the Yoohoo one a lot, probably one of my favorites. The Sriracha chocolate does have a spicy kick, but just a little. I'd suggest getting a less dark chocolate version if you can't really handle the bitterness of 70% dark chocolate. It is pretty pricey here, but honestly I understand why since they carry a lot of imported and unique stuff. Also, their tote bag is super cheap -- I think just a few cents more and you can get one. Definitely worth buying since you also get a cute souvenir for your trip. read more

Located on the lower east side you will find Economy Candy. They are known as the oldest candy store in NY. Upon entering I was a little overwhelmed. But if you take a minute to breath you will find baskets and you can walk around. It is small, but houses a lot of different kinds of candy and even some snacks and candy from other countries. There really is a large selection here. There was even a take on penny candy, where you could pick out a few individual pieces and you pay by weight. They have various types of candy even some from back in the 90s that i miss and wish I could get my hands on. The inside is well organized chaos. But,, pretty well organized and clean. The staff were working hard getting products supplied and helping customers. read more

When it comes to candy, if you ask Economy Candy, "Do you have...?" the answer is probably going to be "yes." The selection is absolutely mind-boggling, with everything from the latest candy trends to old-school classics you forgot existed. They even have vintage baseball card packs that still come with the little stick of gum inside--a true blast from the past. The shop itself is a bit cramped, but everything is surprisingly well organized. Character oozes from every corner, and the staff have exactly the personalities you'd hope for from a candy store crew: friendly, fun, and clearly enjoying the experience as much as the customers. Pure nostalgia in a store. An absolute must-visit for kids, and yes, even those of us who are just kids at heart. read more

When I am here on the LES I always stop by even if it is the day after Halloween. They had candy available at $4/lb which if you didn't know, is a bargain. When I worked at my mother's stores back in the early '80s, Jelly Belly's were that price. I affectionately call this place Grandma's candy store because if your grandmother had it in her jar, they have it. The small Cavendish tins with fruit drops, those little coffee candies, even salted Licorices for you Brits, etc. Well it had been about 4 years and while still impressive it lost some of the vibe for me. They were out of Cavendish, many of the old stuff seemed to be gone. There were less racks, and it just didn't feel as old school as the past. Cute shop on the Lower East Side. Easy to get to by subway, or to walk to. Great selection of candy, even rare import candies and chocolate. My wife got a package of Cadbury Flake (her favorite) and I got a box of Sno-Caps. We would have gotten a lot more, but we were headed to the Yankees game later, so wouldn't have been able to bring everything into the stadium. Check out was quick as well, so we didn't have to wait in line long to make our purchase. Will definitely be back our next trip to New York, and will make sure we don't have anywhere to be so we're able to get a lot more. read more

Economy Candy is the coolest candy store that carries all the old school candies and a lot of candies from foreign countries. Their candies stacked up all along the walls make you feel like a kid in a candy store. Their decor is fun and exciting. Everywhere you look, there's some interesting candy or something cool to check out. Economy Candy has many different flavors of jelly beans in their own dispensers, Kit Kats from Japan, Haribo gummies from Germany, Feastables, Pez, and many many more. They also sell t-shirts and bags with their cute logo. I bought some Super Mario gummies from Germany, which were vegetarian and very fun. I also got some various candies that the girls picked out. The staff was friendly and encouraged me to get a cute reusable bag, which was only $1. They have such a fun logo...it was hard to resist. Economy Candy is a fun candy store in NYC that's sure to fulfill your childhood needs. read more

The truth is from time to time I have a sweet tooth. My dear friend recommended this place to me. During his residency days him ,and his wife used to go here all the time ,and stock up!! I knew I had to try this place for myself. My brothers tagged along for the journey,and it did not disappoint. They have candies for everyone's childhood. I loved that they have imported candies in the back . They had items I had never seen before. Ofcourse they had my Dubai Chocolate; had I not been gifted a whole box by my friend last week, I would have bought it all. Loved this place for being so nostalgic. This candy store has been on my to check out list forever. I randomly walked by it on my way to another spot. It was a bit crowded inside and my azz was excited like a little kid in the candy store. This place is packed with all sorts of candies. Of course my favorites were the old school ones I grew up on. I grabbed some flavored tootsie rolls by the window. I grabbed a few favorites my mom wanted like "Mary Janes." They had some chocolates behind the glass and register. All I kept hearing was "please don't lean on the glass." lol. They had a wall of popular candies from tiktok smh. Omg, I saw so many old school candies and picked up a few. The staff were cool and it can get hectic in there so be ready to shift and move out the way while you're smiling and reminiscing when you see a candy from your childhood. I didn't get any pictures inside because they were so busy but this is Candyland! They have so many different types of candy you will experience sensory overload. I had no idea there were so many flavors of Big League Chew! They had the old school candy cigarettes! They have imported candy and chips. I saw Kool-Aid soda! The list goes on and on and on! Nice place with all different types of candy you can imagine, sold in packages or by the pound. Surprisingly not very pricey and seem to have their home-made candy on display too, though the most popular items seem to be gummies. Fun spot to pop into! There's a huge selection of candy from around the world, as well as older brands that just fills the wall. The checkout line moves very quickly. It's a small space so it can't get cramped when busy, but definitely worth a visit. I've bought candy as souvenirs from here and think it's more fun and unconventional. read more

I've been here a couple times within the last few years to pick up candy for friends, co-workers, family members, and for myself! I love the selection of candy and the variety of countries the candy is exclusively from. The prices are fair and the employees are always nice. The reusable bag they have is very cute and sturdy. The candy store is an iconic opportunity to rediscover candies which are not commonly found in your local supermarkets or big box stores. Can be a a bit pricey, but it's NYC where everything has a bit of an elevated price. You should go visit, walk around the store a bit, and I guarantee you will find "something" that appeals to your 'sweet tooth" or inner child. This is an iconic New York candy store that carries foreign,domestic ,vintage and obsolete candies from the past. It's like going to candy. Disneyland .things are sold in packages and by the pound. Every inch of the store is packed with candy, there's hundreds of flavors of jellybeans in the back, a counter with dried fruit and nuts and specialty chocolates handmade. Don't go in there hungry. Servers are helpful. The line moves quickly. it's a fun place to check out if you're in the lower east side of Manhattan. read more

They had so much candy and a large variety! This was so much fun running around to make my selections. Well not actually running because the place was packed. I nabbed a Charleston chew, violet pastilles, ginger candy, Swedish fish, sour gummies, and 2 other types of sour candy for the younger folks in the family. My mom would take me here when I was a kid so what a treat of an experience this was. We were parked illegally right in front and ran out in then nick of time! The ticket person was there so I screamed to avoid him punching that ticket screen. Ticket averted, fortunately. When you go, find a legal parking spot. read more

I love that places like this exist. Economy Candy is not only filled with delicious candies and snacks but it's also filled with so much nostalgia. While inside they had classic tv theme songs playing throughout the store. They had items from other countries, classic items that I haven't seen in years, and well known favorites of today. My sister and I both grabbed about a dozen items and we both spent under $20. This was a great treat to bring back to our hotel and snack on. read more

I love this place. What's not to love. A candy store of my dreams. I had such a great time here and got so many good treats. I'm obsessed with a candy store that reminds me of my childhood. This is an amazing New York City experience. A candy store stuck in time is beautiful. These are the things New York City is really about. I spent a Sunday here and was so much fun. All the candy from the past and now goes crazy. And not to mention they also make their own chocolate here and sell it for the pound or whatever ya want. Love this old fashioned candy store located on the LES. I don't get to go often but when I do I stick up on sweet treats from days past (some before my time). Another hidden gem in NYC check their schedule cuz they close a little early. Forget all those new candy stores. This place has all of the old school candies!! The greatest candy place on earth since 1937. It was all of the old school candy you used to eat growing up as well as chips and candy from other countries, nuts, vegan options. There candy wall to wall and from floor to ceiling. It felt very nostalgic. The space was a bit crammed, but movable. I was disappointed they didn't have any big chewy sweet tarts or squirrel nuts, but they did have Sugar Babies and Sugar Daddies. The place was really self-serve, but if you had any questions, there were employees who could assist. If you are ever in the Lower East Side, stop by Economy Candy for old times sake. Fun candy store, though not exactly what I thought it would be. It's in the name, so I should have known better. I thought this would be more about exotic/unique/unusual candy or candy from other countries. And there were a few things, such as lays potato chips from Asian countries. And there are some novelty treats, like gum packets with fun sayings on them, or the baseball card gum from my youth in the 80s. But a lot of this is run of the mill stuff, but conveniently packaged in one place. Jelly belly, lollipops, various types of fairly mainstream chocolate. A lot of hard candy and suckers considered "grandma candy." Things like mints, butterscotch. But it isn't about fancy or exotic. If you're looking for a large, affordable selection to please the masses, this is your place. Next I'll check out one of the cities specialty exotic candy shops. read more

I picked up a mug called "wake and bake" and asked my husband does it work and how. I then put it down. When exiting an employee in a purple shirt was kind of blocking the door. I thought that was odd but people are weird. She even almost bumped into someone trying to walk in. She then accuses me of stealing the mug. I was confused and said I put it down and continued on my way, but I'm annoyed that a company that I frequented often with my older kids would accuse me of stealing. If you were watching so closely you should have done a better job and watched me place it back down. How outrageously inappropriate it was to try and smile and play with my 10 month old while you were moments away from accusing his mother. As much as my older kids like It's Sugar I'm going to be thinking twice before purchasing anything there ever again. Maybe it's for the best and I should be supporting local businesses. I'm honestly stuck on the fact that they thought a mother pushing her infant child was attempting to steal something so wildly inappropriate.

I thought it was interesting that this place offered something I rarely see. The young man was very welcoming. He said the place has been here since 2005. He said the owners are elderly and not into the latest business trends like Yelp and Google. He put the business into social media including Yelp. He said he has been really cleaning up since he became the manager three months ago. He added that the carpet is going to be replaced and shelves put up on the walls to better organize the merchandise. He was proud of his addition of the pastries and fresh coffee. He made sure I took note of the tea they also serve. The back counter has his register and lotto tickets. He came out to talk to me and when another customer arrived he returned to the rear. It's a very small space that's uncomfortable with more than one customer at a time. I really had a good experience and I can't wait return for coffee and my next lottery ticket. I'm looking forward to seeing the improvements they plan to continue at this small business. The new manager is doing a great job.

Sugar Addicts, Chocolate Addicts and women going through PMS beware! What can you possibly say about a store full of candy. What possible complaint can you have when you have loose candy everywhere waiting for you to fill your plastic bag with (they require that you have at least a 1/4 pound and will send you back until you get that weight). You can choose all the vanilla (blue) tootsie rolls and no one will say a word about it. In the middle of all that loose candy, you get all the vintage candy that you vaguely remember from your youth (including candy cigarettes, which I remember blowing through one to shoot out the sugar). They also have an amazing selection of chocolate covered everything but the best is the rum cordials. That is something you do not find often. They also have a great selection of seasonal stuff too, which means that Christmas, Easter and Halloween makes this place even more fun (if that is possible). The also have marmalade, tea, and nuts. And when you get all your candy and wait on line, they throw even more candy in front of you on the line, so you always find some last minute items. This place gets very crowded, so you might want to go when it is not too busy so that you can really take your time. read more

You want to really be a kid in a candy shop? Here's your chance! As soon as you walk through the door, you will be whisked back to your childhood. What's really great is they have so many different choices, it won't matter if your childhood was the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s...you get the point! There literally is candy from the floor almost to the ceiling. They even have imported candy as a lot of the classics aren't available in regular stores here anymore. You can't help having a smile on your face while you're in here. I went to the store to go and pick up a couple of things for a candy bar that I was putting together for my wedding. I was taken care by a girl name Maria. She was very helpful and very friendly. Economy Candy has the best candy in all of New York City! If you have a sweet tooth this is the place to go. Besides for having the absolute best chocolates and sweets, the store owners could not be any nicer! Whenever I am in the LES I make sure to make Economy Candy a pit stop. So if you are visiting or especially if you're lucky enough to live nearby, I would definitely recommend this candy store as the place to go! Found this candy store through a Facebook reel. Parking is difficult, but it's near Katz's deli, which is a plus for pastrami lovers. The store has a wide variety of candies that brought back childhood memories, but the layout is cramped and not wheelchair accessible. The shopping bags are cute and cost $1.00. The white-label/house brand licorice is lousy; Trader Joe's licorice is much better. Now, is that _really_ worth leading-off a candy store review with? Pause for a moment. Contemplate. I ordered online and was sent the candy. The box was crushed on one side. However, the candy bars were past the sell-by date and exceedingly stale. Also, the candy that came in its own box was damaged and some of the candy was broken and split. I emailed several times about the problems, but the company never replied. Very poor customer service. read more

This place is candy heaven. Great prices for loose candy by the pound. All of their stock ins fresh and rotates often. It's a routine of mine to grab a pound before going to brunch in the area. Don't get it. Tip for what? Checking someone out and handing them a sample? I asked for a sample and the toothpick she took to give it to me fell on the counter. She picked it up and used it anyway instead of just throwing it out. Weird. Hopefully the counter was clean

The only downside is that it can get VERY hectic. There were people everywhere, and some areas felt a little overwhelming trying to walk around and actually look at things. But considering it's right in Times Square, that's pretty much expected. Overall, it's colorful, fun, a little chaotic, and definitely a cool experience. I'd recommend stopping in at least once, especially if you're already exploring Times Square.

I purchased some holiday chocolates from the store. Dark chocolate and milk chocolate. Both were delightful and fresh. The salesperson was friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. The store itself was decorated rather festive.

Visiting an establishment founded by "Mr. Chocolate" was a must for me…read more Jacques Torres Chocolate was a pretty roomy shop, with product displays, ice cream in a cabinet, cases of truffles, and seating. Possibly a restroom too but I'm not quite sure. The woman behind the counter was cheerful and bubbly. She informed me about the current promotion: if the Knicks win, the next day, you can get a free cookie of your choice with any purchase. Sweet! I ended up buying two espresso truffles or bonbons (about $6 total) which were scrumptious, and the chocolate cookie was truly exceptional. No wonder it's famous. Tender and no shortage of chocolate, that's for sure. Thank you, Mr. Chocolate, and go Knicks!

The ladies working there were very knowledgeable about the business and extremely friendly. There's a small seating area to enjoy your ice cream or cookies and chocolates.
