COMPLETE CROOKS. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. My wife and I came home one day last summer to find that grandma, who lives with us, had been charmed by the door-to-door Ecoshield Pest Control salesman. She had been convinced to sign us up for the miracle mosquito control treatment program with a massive "discount". The treatment program included some sort of quarterly application series over the next year or two. The young salesman promised satisfaction and claimed that "all of our neighbors" were using the service with great results (not true). He was even so genuinely concerned that he gave us his personal cell number should we have a problem or a question in the future. The service came to apply the first treatment within a few days. We waited for the mosquitoes to diminish in number. They didn't. So I called the friendly salesman to ask him to send the technician back for another treatment as promised. No answer. I left a message. No return call. He ultimately answered a call, but told me that it was the weekend and that he was with his family. No return call. I called the office later that week and cancelled the service, sacrificing whatever the first payment had been. I mentioned to the woman on the phone that we live in proximity to a lake. She told me that it never would have worked anyway! Fast forward to this past spring, and my son tells me that the EcoShield guy is at the door. I went to the door to find my front coach lamp broken and hanging limp while the guy, who turned out to be a technician, was moving around the house with a spiderweb brush on a pole. He had broken my coach lamp carelessly with his brush. I informed him that I had cancelled the service the summer before! They had been charging us for 3 quarters, maybe even showing up when we weren't home, who knows. To their credit, they paid for the coach lamp. Today I received a collection notice for the amount of the "discount" ($185) they applied to the original package? You can't make this stuff up!!! I've been with EcoSheild for several years now. I have to say they are worth every penny. They are always great about coming out to take care of any additional pests I encounter, at no extra charge. My wife and I are trilled with the results we've had. Does this mean that we never have any spiders, ants, etc. get in the house, NO, of course not. However, most of the time, they're dead, which means it's working. Be realistic, we live in a world of bugs. But when we do have an issue, I simply call and they send someone out in a couple days, and that always takes care of the problem. It's usually spiders and ants that tend to be the biggest invaders. Remembering the days before EcoSheild, and comparing them to now, it's been a HUGE reduction in the amount of insects in our house and garage. One year, I had a soccer ball sized bees nest lodged under the easement of our roof (3 stories up mind you). I'm sure there were well over a hundred or so bees in it too. Do you think I wanted to deal with that myself...not on your life! So who did I call? Well it wasn't Ghostbusters. Ecoshield came out, and using a very long pole, took down that nest and sprayed the area for bees. Bye bye bees. :-) Did I get charged extra for this service? Not one penny. I have read some of the negative reviews and just have to shake my head. I too do not like to sign a contract for something I haven't tried out yet, but let me put you at ease. EcoSheild works (at least with spiders, ants, bees, earwigs, millipedes, and a few other things I don't know what they are). They come out four times a year for treatments. If you see anything you aren't happy with, or if you start seeing more bugs between treatments, all you have to do is call and they will come out promptly and do an even more thorough treatment at no extra charge. Over the years, I have had several different technicians come. All of them have always been very polite, and conscientious (removing shoes or putting shoe covers on) when entering my home. I have never had anyone I didn't like, or that was rude. I guess in any field you can find a bad apple though. read more

We have had mice problems for several years, and we have tried several different Pest Control companies. Most just usually left Bait traps or offered advice and potential areas we should check, and while they were all somewhat helpful I was never full confident that our house was under Protection. I might have felt the same way about Eco-Shield if it wasnt for one of their techs, Mr. Josh Taylor, who went above and beyond the call of duty. Not only did he install new bait traps and go over some of the options the company offered, he also went outside in the freezing cold and amongst the snow found several holes (and repatched the shoddy ones I myself had patched) and patched everything up. He was very much like a Mouse-Detective finding miniscule clues that most would have missed and proactively patching them up the correct way. What was great was that HE OFFERED to do it without me having to ask him to do so. His time, knowledge, patience, and expertise was very welcome, and for the first time using any pest control service left our family with a sense of confidence that some of the bigger named companies like to advertise but often dont truly provide. Because of this experience I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ECO SHIELD to anyone who is experiencing mice problems in the Southern Chicago Suburbs. I called around because I had field mice that invaded our home in the winter for the first time since we bough our home 8 years ago. I called local because I like to keep my money in the community I live (in and around the Plano, IL area) but the company I called was a cash/check only so my perception was old outdated equipment. Then I called Orkin and talked to someone about the issue and they needed upfront contract because this was their "corporate policy"; needless to say I didn't call them back. I then found Eco Shield and talked to a very friendly receptionist who explained everything. This company has many locations; however the one I called in Geneva has a hometown feel about it. Matt came out and was very detailed and you could tell he's been in the business for a while. After the first trip the mice were still there so they made a free trip out to take a look at what they could do to improve getting rid of our problem. Matt made some adjustments and we caught quite a few that week which seemed to eliminate our problem. Roy Myles was the second tech to do some maintenance and keep the bugs and other issues from coming in the spring summer and he was just as professional and asked if we needed anything before he left. The prices are the best in the area too which was a bonus as this is not why I chose Eco Shield. Before you choose anyone, you MUST check out Eco Shield first. read more

Scam - stay far far away! Avoid their crazy cancellation fees! Their treatments DO NOT work. The first time they came out ($179) and I called that bugs were worse after their spray, they said "that's typical and that the bugs actually come out of their nests after the first spray"... sounded like total BS, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Then they came back out for another spray (another $179!)... again, no result on bugs. Also, I have it on home surveillance that the technician skipped half our property and just did one side. So I call and complain and they said they could give me a credit of $30 for the next spray. I had no desire to continue paying for their shoddy service, so I tell them I'm cancelling and they then say it'll be ANOTHER $179 for me to cancel. I think this is crazy and completely shoddy practice, so I ended up routing them through my Chase credit card fraud services. After months of dealing with them, their attempt at coming at me through a debt collection agency (where I'd point them back to Chase), they finally agreed to waive their crazy fee. All in, I paid over $400 (they wanted $600) for services that never worked! read more

i had such a horrible experience with this company. I was approached after moving into my home as the previous homeowner was using their services. I was told I was getting a deal of one price for two days and that I was obligated to be on contract. I was told I would just have to sign for the one time service. on another day, while I wasn't home, a tech showed up and serviced the outside of my home without my permission. I then was billed for all three days, even one wasn't even a scheduled visit and the other was supposed to be included as part of a promotion. after being transferred back and forth at least six time between billing and customer care, they basically told me there's nothing I could do as they have the right to service my home without permission due to being under contract. apparently the one time permission I had signed put me under contract. when I tried to cancel, they said they'd have to charge me a 150 cancellation fee even though I wasn't aware of being under contract as well as being charged inappropriately. horrible experience and so much wasted money. read more

Avoid EcoShield at all costs. The service providers are supposed to give a description of what they did and what they found after each visit. They do, but it's a pre-written paragraph that each one uses each time. It was so generic that it included language that didn't even match the description of my home. When I called and pointed this out to them they assured me that each visit is documented by the technician and it was not just a generic response, which is a blatant lie. Further, their generic service notes include language that make it sound like pests abound around the home, without any details or descriptions as to where. This tactic seems to be to ensure continued use of their service rather than honesty. Reaching out to customer service is a task, so prepare for many minutes on the phone before reaching someone who can answer any sort of questions. And even then, it's going to be disappointing. Best bet is to avoid them. I'm so happy I have one more appointment and then I can cancel. Don't make the same mistake! read more

WARNING TO ALL - THEY SEND BILLS TK COLLECTIONS IMMEDIATEY. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Do not do business with them. They false advertise and they don't "control" insects. I agreed to service since their employee that came to our home said multiple FALSE things...First, he said I could cancel at anytime if I was unhappy with the service. After 6 months of applications, we still had all the insects they stated they would eliminate. Second, they said they would use a tool to clean under gutters and in garage corners - they didn't do that EVER. Third, they said their products were pet friendly and they are not. My dog immediately got sick after letting him outside 4 hours after the application. When I called to cancel, they said there was an early cancellation fee of $160. I have attempted to call them 10+ times and no one at their accounting department picks up. I've attempted to call Sales and get transferred, but I've been hung up on 4 times. THEY THEN SENT MY BILL TO COLLECTIONS. I still cannot get ahold of them. read more

Had a visit from EcoShield last week, coincidentally during a horrible and traumatic experience with a different pest company. The 1st company was so unprofessional and lacked basic communication skills with each other. They had a tech show up with no knowledge of services/products, no idea what his bosses phone# was and they were a newer company that was way overpriced. They even ended up coming back to my home 2 more times after I said no to them. The rep even came back 7 hours later at 8pm to let me know I made a bad choice not using them!! What a nightmare with them, so it ended up being a blessing when EcoShield came to the door. Melad helped get me signed up and Kyle from showed up within 30 minutes to get the job done. They were both very professional and kind to me and my family while doing their jobs. You need an experienced company that is knowledgeable and professional.....beyond the initial "scripted sales pitch" and EcoShield was an excellent choice. read more

I appreciated everything from the sales people to the tech, Robert, who serviced my home. I listened to the information and realized it was a contract but my previous provider also had "contract" prices which means I get a better price if I agree to a yearly timeframe. I think two years is a practical timeframe to see if the products work as stated and the techs represent themselves as the company promised. If I have a problem, I feel I will discuss it with them and they will rectify it. I wouldn't see the need to just react and cancel the contract without communicating with them first. I do believe that, even though I was not busy on the 4th of July, sales people should not be soliciting homeowners on holidays. I also have a no soliciting sign on our door but I happen to be outside working and didn't mind speaking to the sales people. Maybe you should rethink the "No Solicitation" policies of the individual towns beforehand. read more

Complaint: Poor Service, Misleading Contracts, and Impossible Cancellation My experience with this company has been extremely frustrating. The service was subpar--something I could've done myself with a spray from the hardware store. They barely did the minimum, and even that was done poorly. Canceling was a nightmare. I was told up front that I could cancel anytime, but when I tried, they hit me with unexpected fees. I had to speak with multiple agents who kept trying to manipulate me into continuing the service, even though I clearly stated I wanted to cancel. It felt like a deliberate attempt to wear me down. Worst of all, I never knowingly agreed to a long-term contract, yet somehow I was locked into one. I was told that I could cancel but not that I would be charged $150 to do so. Don't trust what you're told--read every bit of fine print. I feel completely misled. Don't let them fool you like they fooled me. read more

Tony Lawless performed a detailed inspection of my home in Kildeer, IL the other day, looking for bug and mouse problem areas (eg, nesting, damage, access points). I walked around with him (including the attic) to see what he was seeing and to learn what to look for. He did an amazing job - very thorough and took his time (even though it was snowing during the external inspection!!!). He showed me mouse tunnels in my attic insulation, gaps between my foundation and siding, failing garage door trim, potential problem areas for wasps, issues with various unprotected vents, etc. He also pointed out some areas of concern that I may want to address, unrelated to pests (eg, uninsulated exhaust vents, suggestions for stopping air leaks, etc). We have been using Ecoshield for 4 years now and couldn't be happier with the results. At first we were hesitant due to the quarterly service contract, however, they stand by their money back guarantee and they come back as many times as it takes in between scheduled visits until your pest problem is alleviated. In fact, I went through a year of unemployment where we couldn't afford their services and my wife and I were afraid that they were going to put us through the wringer since we had just signed on for another year when I was laid off. We called them and explained the situation and to our surprise they had no problem waiving our contract. Needless to say, now that I am employed again, we are loyal Ecoshield customers once again! We had a persistent and industrial colony of yellow jackets that just would not relocate outside of our yard. Mike Pease was the second technician to come out as the colony had relocated from out in our front yard to under an azalea bush right outside our front door!! I was feeling similar to some of the other reviews posted that this may have not been our best choice for bug control. This technician didn't just spray and leave, but actually waited a bit to spray and "dust" returning bees. Meanwhile, he he did an additional sweep of the exterior since I had mentioned large spiders finding our back deck home rather than the woods behind us. It has been 5 days since the visit and no sign of the colony resurrecting this time and no big spiders on my deck!! I am happy that no matter how often I had called there has been no mention of additional fees. Just a simple signature to confirm the work. read more

This company is wonderful! I have a 1 1/2 acre yard with a big deck and for the past 10 years have been using terminex and they never once got rid of my NUMEROUS bees that flooded my deck. My husband is, shall we say, nervous around the bees and chooses not to sit out on the deck much. I was constantly spraying to eliminate the bees for a day or so. After one spray from Eco Shield my bees were gone. Wow I was so impressed. Of course there were a few that came to look to set up but because of the environmental chemical they spray they don't stay long. They also sprayed around the outside of my ( just like Terminex) but this was the first time I actually saw dead insects in my garage. I always have a huge 4th of July party and this was the first time my guests did not have to case away the bees. I am so looking forward to next year to be able to really enjoy my deck the WHOLE summer. read more

WHAT A LOVELY YOUNG LADY. I received a telephone call about thirty minutes before my appointment (as requested), and thirty minutes later, Olivia arrived for our appointment. She was aware of what had been done during my initial contact earlier this month, and told me what she planned to do presently. She asked me several questions to determine what the proper application would be, and started-in immediately. Once finished inside she went outside and re-applied the insect potion to hopefully kill those little bastards who invaded my kitchen. Olivia was polite, informative, competent, and a pleasure in every way.
