EcoShield West Chicago deserves a 0 star rating. Been with them for 5 years, and they never eliminated the bugs. They claim on Facebook they have a 100% money back guarantee but they won't stand behind that advertisement. Have had service managers out to the house and they don't eliminate the pests either. Do yourself a favor and use another company.... any... other.... company!!! read more

Is there a negative stars option??? Everything the other reviewers have said about being locked into a contract, poor customer service and unskilled technicians is spot on correct. I had to laugh when one of their door-to-door flunkies appeared at my house. He had no clue I had already been suckered into a contract and was an existing (albeit reluctant) customer. I told him I had a service and he promptly started bashing the unknown competitor. Then he switched tactics to tell me how they worked with a "bunch of my neighbors". When pressed for specifics he could provide none. I just contacted them to advise the 24 month contract I signed in June 2014 was up and I wanted no further treatments (they are a complete waste of money). Immediately I was advised the 24 month agreement is 9 treatments and I've only had 7. Fine...do the 2 remaining treatments and I'll make certain I tell everyone I can find to avoid this company like the PLAGUE!!! I'd rather deal with spiders than EcoShield! read more

Ecoshield is an A- accredited business on BBB, which is good. However, their sales pitch persistence and REAL online reviews via Angie's List are a red flag to me. It seems like you sign your life away on a contract for something that is rarely delivered on. I've read multiple places that if you decide to cancel your service it's like a cell phone contract where you pay a $200 termination fee. This wasn't discussed on any sales pitch to date. Couple that with the constant barrage of these sales pitches and misinformation on species that actually reside within our area, (i.e. Brown Recluse spiders rarely live in the Chicago area!), I wouldn't give this company my business. Buyer beware with this product and if you already got sucked into the sales pitch I hope everything works out for you. Based on my experience I would not recommend this company however I would prefer to go with a much more proven company like Orkin. read more

We had another popular pest company and they did basically NOTHING. They wandered around the house for 5 minutes and left. I called before they got down the street (they had not rung the door bell, I just caught sight of them out the window) and the person said they'd call and come another day. This happened several times. I cancelled. I got EcoShield and they actually have been eliminating wasp nests, spider nests (bad year for those!) and did the granular stuff on the lawn. We stopped the granular stuff, as our dog turned out to be allergic (not EcoShield's fault) but since they were last out we have a bunch more spiders creating nests by our windows. I called and we are scheduled for a re-treatment- which is a free service. They do a pretty good job. The spiders were gone last time...but they came back. It is part of living in the country...there are three horse farms across the road from our little subdivision, so these pests are a common and recurring problem, no fault of the pest company. I disagree with some people that they are totally a scam. Maybe it makes a difference where you live - there are multiple locations run by different people. Ours are nice to deal with, they reschedule if you need them without complaint and at no charge. read more

Eco Shield has done a very good job for us since we started their service a few months ago. We have had no problems with bugs, not even spiders! Horrible customer service. This company is great at delivering the perfect sales pitch. When it comes time for service they fail miserably. I experienced a situation where the driver parked in front of my house for 45 minutes, did nothing and then billed me. Glad I videotaped the whole thing. Always leave a bill and no evidence any work was done. I waited 2 weeks for someone to come out to treat a wasp problem. Since they always come and service without me being home, it would make sense they would be doing that to treat the wasp problem. Nope, I get a message they are refusing service because I'm not home. I signed up for a two - year contract with EcoShield after a Sales Person knocked on my door, and explained that EcoShield was an eco - friendly, effective way to get rid of pests. Based on his sales pitch, I decided to give it a try. I have to say that the Sales People and Office Staff were always courteous, but I had to repeatedly contact EcoShield to have them come back and reapply their pest control applications because I continued to get bugs. I attempted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but after two years of constantly calling and still having problems, I had to finally say...."enough is enough". The latest episode involved an infestation of ants on my deck, and side of my house. I contacted EcoShield to come back out and respray (after I had paid the $125.00 quarterly application fee in May). They came back approximately two weeks later and resprayed. Still no success! At this point the ants were crawling in my dogs bowl,and all over the furniture on the deck. I contacted EcoShield once again to respray. They came back a week later and resprayed. Still.....NO SUCCESS! I still had this infestation of ants! I contacted them again....this time a Manager came by, and a more mindful employee. The employee found the primary nest of the ants, and sprayed it. Two weeks later, I still had a massive amount of ants! I couldn't take it anymore, and inquired about the product. I was concerned that the product that they were using may not have the proper strength to get rid of the ants. After multiple phone calls and requests for a Manager to call me back, I opted out of the service. The service required too many re-applications of the product, and really did not fix my pest problem. I decided to go with a competitor's service, and after one application, the problem was fixed. I requested that EcoShield reimburse me for my last $125.00 payment, but the Manager never returned my call. I can only give this company 1 star, and that is because before I cancelled the service, they were very responsive, but the product just wasn't strong enough to address my pest problem. read more

Went through the motions, set out baits but did nothing to discover or block rodent ingress to the house. This only guarantees that you will have to call them again. Used Bugs Anonymous, and they did a GREAT JOB. Searched for all access points in the basement, blocked them with steel wool, recommended steps to be taken to solve the problem permanently. read more

Their technicians are polite and friendly and call you ahead of starting the service. That is the only good thing I can say for this company. Their product does not work. The ants in my mailbox are live and healthy and I have to still swat my mail on the mailbox to get rid of the ants before opening any envelopes. The spiders - still there. Ants - no difference. The icing on the cake is when you call their customer service and complain that the bugs are not taken care of. They told me - the bugs outside is good because that means they were flushed out from inside my home. Well that's fine and dandy but I still got bugs inside too. If the service did not cost me an arm and a leg, I'd have really laughed out loud at their asinine logic. Once you sign up, you pay for the entire year. No escape clauses. How bad are they? Think Comcast. That bad. Major league, you know! And they can send the techs out for a reservice at no cost to you. Except the cost from staying home on a workday. And the hassle. And the bugs, of course. Stay away and get some borax from your grocery store. Or spray some water on the bugs. I really think I got taken by these guys. The cute little salesperson came in talking with a story about leaving her husband and baby back in Colorado or Utah. I felt so sorry for her that I, of course, wanted to give her business. She kept saying, "And it's such a great rate right now, it's ONLY $145.00 Well, I signed without paying much attention cause I'm so trusting and it ended up being 5X$145 for a year which I think is a lot when I really didn't have a bug problem. Just wanted to keep it that way. They take your credit card and keep charging it until you quit . . . which I did after the second and third charges when I realized what had happened. They charge you a huge penalty for discontinuing the service and really weren't interested in my perception of what had transpired. Shame on me. Just beware and read everything. They've now sent me to a collection agency cause I'm too mad to pay and am trying to work through the Better Business Bureau. read more

I usually try to contact the company first, but Ecoshield has treated our house twice, and we continue to walk into spider webs when exiting our sliding door exit onto the deck. We brush cobwebs off as we sit at our deck table and chairs. When I cleaned off our front porch, I not only noticed a ton of cobwebs on our fall wreath on the front door, but I also witnessed a giant spider trying to escape with his life!! We will cancel. We also own a lake house in Wisconsin. We pay $39/month and we literally have NO issues. I wish the same service and fees would be available here. read more

EcoShield has been our pest control company for over 2 years. The cost is very affordable compared to other companies we have used. They come on a quarterly basis, are easy to contact, both by phone and by texting. And the company sends text and voice mail reminders of scheduled visits. If the appointment time becomes inconvenient, rescheduling is easy. The technicians seem very knowledgeable, and they are prompt, courteous, and thorough. They ask is there is anything extra you want to have checked and they treat it without any upcharge. I highly recommend EcoShield! read more

1) My first mistake was signing a contract presented by a door-to-door salesman. I did need a pest control service, so I listened to his presentation. He used names of my neighbors to indicate that they had signed up for his service. I found out later that the neighbors had not signed up for the service. I also found out that he used my name to try to convince my neighbors to sign up. 2) They told me that they would come to the house to treat the bugs at 12:00 but didn't show up until 1:00 and he had invited neighbors over to watch. 3) The tech who came to the house was not licensed although I understand that an unlicensed tech can work under the license of someone else. Unfortunately the tech did not have much training. He didn't wear gloves or a mask when handling the chemicals. When I asked him about gloves and /or a mask, he said that he "ran out" of them. I thought this exhibited a lack of understanding about the chemicals that he was using. He sprayed over his head and the chemicals fell right on his face. 4) When he sprayed "pheromones" on the eaves which he said would cause the bugs to stay away, he got chemicals all over my windows. When I called his manager, she said that some people want to have their windows "drenched". No one asked me if I wanted chemicals all over my windows, nor did they tell me that they were going to get chemicals on the windows. Now I have to have the windows washed just because the tech was sloppy. I told the manager that I did not want to wash the windows on a 2 story house after every time they come to treat pests. 5) The tech checked off areas of the house as inspected that he never even entered let alone inspected. Obviously he didn't treat those areas. When I told the manager, she offered to change the record of the treatment. She did not seem at all concerned about the fact that he misrepresented his services. Unlike the other reviewer, I followed the tech around and watched what he did. They said that this 1st treatment was worth $250, but everyone is offered a discount to get you to sign the contract. I have used pest control services for years - there is no way this service was worth $250, based on my experiences. 6) The contract requires 4 treatments per year. That treatment in January may be useful to their clients in California or Georgia, but I don't have many bugs in January here in Chicago. I said that I didn't want the 4th treatment -- but that is their contract, they always charge for 4 treatments per year. 7) After the first treatment, I checked Angie's List and called the top rated pest control companies. I found that they charged, on average, $100 less than Eco Shield. They just opened their Illinois office in early June 2011. The high pressure and misleading sales style, minimally trained technician and fact that they are over-priced make me very unhappy with their services. Don't make the mistake that I did - they charge you a lot to get out of the contract. read more

Bad company, do not let yourself get in their trap. The sell person show up in your house, and promise you everything. The product was not being effective, try to call them with no response. They keep applying the product and still have the same bugs in the house, try to call them again, with no response. Then I sent emails, with no response. Finally after many trials I was able to talk to a customer representative who was very rude. I decided to cancel the service and the sell person wrote in my contract I can cancel at any time. Now I am getting invoices from them for a cancelation fee. The product is not effective, the company and customer service is terrible and sell people lie to you. We had someone going door to door - my husband signed a contract because he "thought" he was getting a good deal. Once he told me, I was furious because our old company charged way less. A couple weeks later, a couple of my neighbors signed up and we're paying WAY less than we are - and have a bigger house. I called Ecoshield and they said they'd speak to the salesman and have him call us back. I never received a call back. I called back 2 weeks later and she said she hadn't heard from the salesman and would talk to her manager. I received a call the next day saying they'd lower the price by $10. (That's still $50 more a month than my neighbors.) She said there was only 1 other house in the neighborhood being serviced by them and they signed up last year and had a smaller house. I gave her the names and address of my friends. She said they must have signed up via the call center and they run better deals. So, you're telling me it's ok to charge people different prices for the SAME service? It seems unethical and very scammish to me. I don't trust them one bit and I plan on letting everyone I know not to use them. Those kind of business practices do not work for me. read more

what a scam! they only treat & guarantee limited types of pests. they came out to my home a week ago and I'm seeing ants inside my house...because they are carpenter ants they don't treat or guarantee them. ** beware ** total scam . i fell for it and we hope you don't . this company sends door-to-door salesman to your house with an "incredible deal that you can cancel at any time." after 2 visits and $225.00 later .. we noticed the services were not working. the so called technician arrived on 12-8-16 for 5 miniutes- got back in his truck and left. then received the bill. we refused to pay and then received collection notice from optio solutions in ca, we have video proof that the technician never performed the work. company said i signed agreement and it doesn't matter what the representative may have said . agreement that they said has my signature on it looks similar but appears to be forged from my credit card bill that was signed by me... i will seek advice from local police about this scam as well contact my attorney. read more

I haven't actually used this company, and after seeing the reviews here I'm so glad that I didn't. Them showing up at my door for a second time, even though I have a no soliciting sign posted, irritated me enough to bring me here. It's not just that they showed up, even though they certainly should honor our village ordinance, but by listing off half a dozen of my supposed neighbors and their addresses (didn't recognize the names) and claiming them as customers, is an invasion of their privacy as well. This is terrible business practice. Now I find out that they trap people into a contract by offering them half off their first service. Now I realize that this is what the salesperson was trying to do to me. He offered me the same first time discounted service. It seemed like a good deal, but I rejected it because I didn't want to be in business with a company like this. Also, no thank you means no thank you. I don't need to be held up for a long time just because I'm a polite person. It's difficult to imagine how a company like this stays in business. read more

I will admit my mistake for ever buying anything from a door-to-door salesman. I was told that I was paying upfront for one year service. Then one month later I was charged an additional fee. My mistake for believing what I was told. To cancel the contract I had to pay and additional fee. So I paid three times what I was told the price would be to get them out of my life. Bottom line take a contract and kick them out and read it for yourself. They will tell you anything to make the sale. I live in a town house so I was told that my neighbors (attached house) were all doing this. I later found out that was just another technique to get me to buy. I have had nothing but problems with this company. I am extremely unhappy with management. I have had "promises" made to me that were never kept. I had a yellow jacket problem. They were getting into my basement from the outside wall where my gas line runs into the house. The first guy came and sprayed outside. Said he thought there was a very, very small nest, but thought he sprayed it. Three days later STILL bees in my house. Called again and they sent another guy. This guy told me that the previous technician was an idiot, that there were complaints about him ALL THE TIME. Told me that he himself was management and that he had been trying to get that guy fired, but that corporate was a problem. He then told me that the girls in the office were incompetent and that they didn't know a wasp from a cockroach (or something like that). He also told me that it was impossible for there to be a wasp nest in the area that the first guy addressed and that wasps would NOT make a nest in there. He sprayed in the outside hole and he CLOGGED up the hole with steel wool. The next day the amount of yellow jackets in my house was at least tripled and each day they increased. They were even in my dirty laundry and clean laundry baskets. My daughter, while doing the laundry and me gone for the day, was stung and her hand swelled almost twice the size and I had to call to have someone go to my house to tend to her. I left messages letting them know what their technician did and that I was going out of town. I did not want to find yellow jackets all over my walls when I returned and that if they did not come that day that I was going to call an attorney an sue them. They sent someone, a great guy named Robby N.. Robby was shocked that the hole with stuffed with steel wool. Shocked with the insane amount of dead, dying and flying yellow jackets in my basement AND going in and out of the "clogged" hole on the outside of my house. Robby was shocked at the treatment of previous technicians. He spent over 3 hours at my house killing yellow jackets AND hunting down the nest, as he told me that he was not going to leave until he found it. He crawled around outside under my bushes spraying, to aggravated the bees to find the area in back of my cedar where they may be or the area they were flying through to get to the nest. He found a nest in the closet around the first area that the first guy thought it may be and the area where the second guy said there couldn't be one. The nest was 14-16" long and 4-6" high in a rafter in the ceiling of the game closet. What he went through and what he did to annihilate the bees was unbelievable. The amount of dead bees or crawling around lethargic bees, in my basement was ridiculous. There were many piles of 25-100 bees all over. He killed them all, but ALL THESE dead bees are in everything in my basement, EVERYTHING. I called the next day and talked with Kevin as Corey was unavailable (managers). I was assured by Kevin that due to all these circumstances that they were sending someone to clean up the unnecessary and unavoidable mess left in my house due to the incompetent technician that caused this. The very nice guy showed up. He was confused as to his service labeled "bee clean up". Explaining the situation, again, for yet another time, to yet another Ecoshield person, he came in to inspect. He was shocked at the size of the nest that wasn't removed and shocked at the amount of bees all over my basement (and that was after I had swept of piles and piles of them as I was concerned that my miniature dachshund would eat the dead bees and get sick). He told me that this was a 4+ hour job and that the office scheduled him for 30 minutes. He called his "supervisor" to explain, yet again to another Ecoshield employee what was going on, and he was told to leave and that they would take care of the clean up, calling me the next day to schedule something. NO PHONE CALLS. Today for my 2nd contract spraying, the very nice technician Omar, heard a toned down version of my horrible experience with this company. By the way, Ecoshield does not have the technician's read up on the customer's old notes before they come to do a service. They let the guys just waIk ignorant. I explained to him that I was in the middle of typing a few complaints, contacting corporate and had a call into my attorney. He has offered to try and get the nest out of my closet (assuming yet another mess from crumbling wasp nest on top of all the dead bees ON TOP OF all the items in my closet and inside of all the bins). I was forced into a year contract as the cost for a 30 day bee treatment would have held no warranty as I have been dealing with this SAME ISSUE for over a month as the issue is still not rectified. I was signed the service agreement misrepresented by a door-to-door salesman. I thought this was only one time service for $125.00. I found out the day before service it was a 12 month agreement for 4 treatments. I called the salesman; he told me I can cancel it after first service. So I let them did the treatment and paid $125.00. When the serviceman came for the initial service he told me I didn't need the rest service so I need call the office to cancel it. He also told me he will come back in 30 days for follow up initial service for free. I checked the agreement it showed initial service includes1-3 times services. I believed I was told. When I called the office, the lady in the office was really mean and said I need to pay additional fees to cancel the service agreement. They also charged me additional $125.00 for the 30 days follow up service which serviceman told me was free. For this time service the serviceman only showed for 5 minutes. I haven't gotten past my year-long contract yet (the length was perfectly explained to me when I signed up), so I don't know if I'll have issues cancelling later. I had a manger come to my house and offer use a deal with a lot of discounts. I did sign for two years. The next day i called and told them I changed my mind and did not want there service. The manger said he would reduce the price to $100.00 with a one year contract. I said ok. I paid for 4 more services at $100.00 each and after one year I canceled the service. I then received a bill for $250.00. After a number of calls a manager called and said my contract was of two years. The over the phone agreement was not honored. They would not budge on the $250.00 fee. Think twice before you sign anything with this company and don't be as dumb as I was. Don't be a dummy like me and don't trust there phone conversations. I used Eco Shield for the first year and was happy with their service and technicians. Lately though the product is not working. I scheduled service in between my quarterly service due to having many spiders. The technician arrived 10 minutes early and was irritated that I asked him to do the inside as well as the outside. He said I should tell them at the office that I need a more thorough service as it takes him longer. He also seemed annoyed that he had to wait for us to finish taking items out from under the bathroom sink. We were in the process and I did say he was 10 minutes early. His response was that I am running behind. When he finished the inside I let him know the gate was open so he could get around the back yard. I saw his truck leave and he had not done the outside. I called the office to share my concern and asked to speak to a manager. After 5 1/2 minutes of being on hold, I hung up. Will be cancelling my service with this company. read more
