Had issues with a few quotes from big regional/national companies that Yelp steered me to, so went to AI for help to find a verifiably licensed and highly rated local independently owned business. Ed & Son's was the first suggestion. AI isnt always right, but this time it was! Got a fair quote over the phone for maintenance service call and made an appointment for today- Saturday. Arrived on time, readily identified as legit (truck had his name, and same info in business card/invoice). Inspection showed all looked good, but the weather stripping was cracked and he could replace it. Not covered by HOA so I'llcall to set that up. He said if I wanted to upgrade anything, nylon rollers would be his suggestion, but that was not a pressure sale- just a recommendation. Knocked off $25 for rollers $225 for a service call/maintenance and new rollers, which i thought was reasonable. Asked him if motor was okay and he said yes, but not needed now. "If it's not broke, don't fix it," was his advice. Love that! Asked for price for wishlist and he said there is a range, but the e-openers are battery backup and have remote camera and operational app. Quoted under $1000 for motor and 8' track replacement. Our garage door spring broke and we were dead in the water. Called Ed & Son's Garage Doors and he was so nice and offered to come out within the hour! When he arrived he quickly diagnosed the problem, gave us a quote, and a few options. We chose to replace the spring and ride out our old motor and Ed was so nice about it. He serviced our ancient motor, oiled it(?), cleaned up the sensors, and our garage door has NEVER been quieter! Who knew?! It only took about an hour for all of this. They were very efficient! He also told us that when that motor is finally done to give him a call, and he went over all the things that would be replaced when we do eventually get a new motor. We had been having an issue with our garage door not opening and closing properly for years but never got around to addressing the issue because it still functioned.
