I brought in my compact 1998 Tacoma work truck, after not having been in there for more than 10 years, when I had another truck they had done work on. I am a former mechanic who ran a smog and air conditioning shop years ago for a friend who owned it, and it is still a hobby of mine to try to be a diy-er whenever I can. But not with welding exhaust systems. I kept getting a check engine light that my smart phone ap showed as "diagnostic code 420", poor catalytic converter efficiency. After 6 months of having to clear that code every 20 miles, geez, I finally went in to see these folks for a new converter. I was there at 8 am, and did not have to wait around, their all-around glue guy Travis, a very courteous and respectful guy who kept calling me "sir", wrote up my ticket, describing the code I reported to them. Travis is like a utility infielder on a baseball team, willing to come off the bench and substitute for any player who can't step up to the plate at any moment. Yeah, I always can spot the glue guy at any business, the guy or lady in the background, helping hold the team together. But my reporting the code and telling them I wanted a converter was not enough for these people. Joe, the line mechanic on duty (he said we aren't mechanics, we are exhaust specialists) was not satisfied with my request, but for a reason in my best interest. He wanted to be sure that what I was asking for would solve my problem. So he took out his own mini scan tool, hooked it up to vehicle's diagnostic connector under the dash, and studied the signals coming out of the rear-most oxygen sensor. After reving up the engine so it was warm enough for the computer feedback system to go into closed loop,(that's me, former smog tech talking) he yells out: "Lazy O2 sensor, the voltage signal hardly moves up and down, it's really a flat-liner." He then shows me the screen and sure enough, from my days as a smog tech, I recognized that bad low voltage signal hardly oscillating up and down, yeah a real flat liner there. A good cat and O2 sensor working together should produce a voltage wave that moves up and down quickly. I knew something for sure needed to be done, either replace them both or at least start with the bad converter and see what the sensor does next. When he started the replacement, Rebecca the office manager lady asked him if it also needed a new sensor, and Joe told her no, the owner wants to wait and see on the results. Well, I was pleased more than I can say, to see with the new converted installed in less than 30 minutes, the oxygen sensor signal was back to normal again. Man am I glad not to see that yellow check engine light popping up every single day ! I have to say that these people treated me like I was a VIP, kind of like a 5* hotel. read more

I had lot of friend who've used Ed's shop with high remarks, I just had a 2.5" piping fabbed for me today and I could see why. "Kevin" the tech took meticulous care in measuring angle / bends while shaping my system, even tossed out the first version because he wasn't satisfied with the looks. I had to take some time NOW to give a shout out to the Team at Ed Hanson's. Just left there about an hour ago. I have 2003 Ford Ranger.............love the truck........has 118k on it. Been thinking, replace it?...........keep it?, and do some fun upgrades??? Chose the latter. Been wanting to do a performance exhaust, so 2 days ago I called the shop. Rebecca answered the phone and oh my what fun she was. Not only did she know absolute specifics about my truck and various install set ups, she loved talking about it and her love of her job and the excitement about exhaust systems came through, which got me even more excited about doing this. She gave me an education about it all, as I know nadda, other than "I want some rumble sound". She quoted me EXACT prices for two different approaches; both CAT-BACK...........1. with a single pipe, and 2. with a split pipe aft of the muffler. I chose the former. She quoted me 2 time frames: single, about 1.5 hours, split pipe about 3-4 hours. The thing I really liked was that she told me I could listen to 3 different muffler lengths pre, final install, so I could pick the sound most appealing to me. This was a deal sealer. I set an appointment for 1pm, 2 days later. Day of appointment, my own day changed, freeing up late morning time, so I called Rebecca to see if it helped them too, and sure enough it did, so I was there in 15 minutes. Walked in, met Rebecca, brought my work stuff to spend my 1.5 hours on, and this was so cool....................she saw that I had done this..............got up from her desk and shut their front door. It was hot outside and a bit noisy, but I took immediate notice of her act of kindness and service. WOW. I get to meet Joe, the technician IMMEDIATELY,............he takes the keys and off we go. Probably within 30 minutes, Joe appeared in the waiting room with my keys...."ready to take a listen?". Did I say "WOW". I hop in the truck and get a listen to entrant number 1: a 14 inch Magnaflow. Liked it. Joe then flipped it out for an 18..............loved it. "Joe, can I hear the 14 once more".............his reply....."no problem". Listen again to the 14. " Hey Joe, I don't want to be a pain here, but can I listen to the 18 once more???"..............his reply.. "No problem whatsoever, it's no big deal, this is what I do". Second listen on the 18 slammed the door shut on the 14. No joke, I am like a kid in a candy store excited. I head back to the wait room and get back on my work stuff, and perhaps 30 to 40 minutes go by, Rebecca says she is ready to check me out, we do that, Joe walks in 5 minutes later, hands me the keys. I pack up my work stuff...............go out and start her up, walk around and listen................oh my !!!! Here's the thing....................GREAT SERVICE...................GREAT PEOPLE. They care and you feel it. I had fun in this experience, which all in was 2 days from consult to RUMBLE down the freeway, and less than 90 minutes on site for the install. Rebecca told the truth in the initial phone call/consultation, and did not try to "sell me" anything, She just educated me on it all. They were ALL excited about what they do. Everyone I met was super friendly and smiled a lot. They beat the time estimate of 1.5 hours and the phone quote was the bill total for the service. Under promised and over delivered. BLAM. GET SOME !! I gotta go now..................and drive my NEW 2003 Ranger..............sounds bitchin camaro. If ya know what I mean. read more

They didn't try to up sale me on anything and in fact showed me ways to save money. The did a walk through of my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and showed me problem areas and made sure that all of my concerns were addressed. They showed me how to take care of my exhaust system and also explained how I could optimize it. I am going to have them make me a custom exhaust when I return. From the initial phone call for a couple question and a quote all the way until the job was finished. This place is amazing. I was recommend by a friend of mine from car audio heaven and he said " they know how to get the most of your car." I already love my car, but now I love it even more. Rebecca gave great service and made my friend and I feel like family. Kevin help patched up my friends car and worked on mine afterward, but both job was outstanding. AMAZING!!!! I have been in the industry for over 15 years, and my mother owned an exhaust shop up in Washington state where I was born and raised. Since moving to San Diego, I have had the WORST experience when it comes to custom exhaust. No names mentioned, but I wish I would have found Ed's sooner. The work performed on my SRT8 Grand Cherokee is EXCEPTIONAL. In fact, I wish I wouldn't have purchased a "bolt-on" system for my 300 SRT8!! I would much rather have a custom Hanson's exhaust! Nothing but the best. Took my mild custom 48 Ford coupe to Ed and crew because the exhaust system that was on the car when I bought it sounded okay, but at highway speeds (around 2000 RPM) the drone drove me nuts (albeit for me that's a relatively short trip). Car has an LT1 350, 4L60E and a Ford 9 inch 3.25:1 rear. After I drove it in and Ed and I looked at the mess that was the exhaust system (very poor welds, lots of leaks and rounded, rectangular Cherry Bombs that hung too low and drug on any speed bump), he came up with a scheme to install 2 slim Flowmasters, coupled with 2 cylindrical-shaped Magnaflows and a much better routing scheme that will allow more rear end up and down travel - without sacrificing any power or gas mileage and keeping a nice throaty tone when I step on the loud pedal, but not being annoying at cruising speed. Talk about hitting a home run! Kevin did the actual installation. The guy is an artist. My only complaint is that now I need to find the source of the annoying wind noise (couldn't hear it over the exhaust drone before). If you need a custom exhaust system, look no further than these folks. Friendly, knowledgeable and craftsmanship that can't be beat. What more could anyone ask? If they can handle custom work like mine, I have no doubt that they can do stock exhaust systems standing on their heads. Very highly recommended! read more

Nothing but great things to say about Ed Hanson's. I brought my Toyota Sequoia to have a Magnaflow exhaust installed and they knocked it out of the park. They were able to install the bolt on system in about 20 minutes. The truck sounds great and I can't be happier with the install and the great service that I got here. Never been so happy to spend "only" $464.50! Went to my mechanic for a persistent check engine light on my 15-year-old Accord and it turned out to be catalytic converter issues. So they referred me to Hanson Muffler. I came for an estimate fearing a high bill that would be close or higher than the value of the old car. Within 45 minutes, they had replaced the catalytic converter (including welding) and I was out the door for far less than I had feared. When the woman working the desk (who is extremely extremely nice and professional, by the way) told me how much it would cost, I couldn't believe what I was hearing and had them to it immediately lest it was a mistake and they changed the price! Well, let me start by saying i have never provided a review for any business. Maybe that's because before now, I never felt compelled to do so. I needed help building an exhaust system for my 1940 Ford hot rod which I had just spent every day of the last 10 months meticulously building from the ground up. I first called a few speed shops and though many of them did exhaust systems, they all referred me to Ed Hanson's for custom work. My experience began when I called Ed's and had the pleasure of explaining my situation to Barbie, who confirmed that in fact I had come to the right place, assuring me that I would be well taken care of. Arriving at my scheduled appointment, Barbie greeted my and introduced me to Kevin, an employee of 28 years and the mechanic/artist that would be sculpting an exhaust system worthy of my project. A few minutes later I was introduced to an unassuming man by the name of Ed Hanson. Ed immediately reminded me of my father; energetic, engaging and most of all, proud of his work, and his "family" of employees at the business he had built over more than 3 decades. I went over the car with Kevin, explained to him my wants and needs, and listened as he described how he would go about crafting my exhaust. Convinced that Kevin was the right artist for the job, I began to meander about the shop. I met Joe, another artist that's worked for Ed for more than 30 years and watched as he sculpted a meticulous exhaust system for a customer's near new Range Rover. I also continued my conversation with Ed. We talked about life, his family, his other "family" and his business. Ed is a very gracious person and took time out of his busy day (he was fixing the hydraulics on one of his many pipe benders) to talk with me about any subject I cared to bring up, and the more I learned about Ed the more I liked this man. Meanwhile, Kevin continued working his brand of magic on my car, occasionally calling me over to discuss his thoughts on any one of a myriad of little obstacles encountered on my particular installation. As Kevin was clearly well versed and knew exactly what he was doing, I wisely chose to follow his advice. Kevin was tasked with routing my exhaust up and through the frame with just 3/16" clearance around the pipe. The pride Kevin takes in his work and his attention to every detail showed as Kevin worked tirelessly to create the perfect exhaust system for my ride. I could not have been more pleased with the work Kevin did and highly recommend Ed's to anyone that needs work done on their exhaust system. In fact, I look forward to taking my son's classic 67 Camaro there next and having the opportunity to visit with Ed and his "family" again. Just wanted to write a note to say what a great experience I had at Ed's this morning. I have a 73 Bronco with an exhaust that continuously comes loose at the manifold. Ed knew what it was over the phone and I made an appointment for 0730. When I arrived, the garage was open and they took me right in. I was in and out in 30 minutes for a very fair price.
