After all this time, Peter Christopher is still my hair stylist. His work is consistent and is never rushed. We've fallen into a rhythm where I visit him every 6 weeks; he'll always ask me what I want (even though it's the same thing) and understands that I am a low-key kind of girl so he always cuts to make sure it grows in and lays naturally. I like to go to the salon on Saturdays so when Peter is done styling my hair, I can head out on the town and show it off right away. Eddy totally gets how to do "California Blonde!" For years I went over the hill because I thought that was the only way I could become the perfect blonde. I decided to find a place in Studio City. I read a few yelp reviews, walked past the salon then people watched from across the street at Coffee Bean. (I know... I'm either pretty creepy or very particular.) Finally... I made an appointment with Eddy. 1 year and 6 trips later, I continue to be SO happy. Eddy totally "gets how to do california blonde" and I like his cuts. Never too much, and I always get compliments. ALL of the people that work at Eddy James and their clientele are very nice. The salon services all types; from suburban moms to celebs, club kids, porn stars and people like me! Eddy, Nicole (at the front desk) and Stephanie (1 of the assistants) deserve 5 stars but I'm giving the salon a 4 because I've been really disappointed with few of the blow drys from misc assistants and have ended up going home to "re-do my do." read more

I always look for a salon where I can make a same day appointment. My schedule is erratic and by the time I realize I need a cut/ color, etc., a same day appointment is about all I can do! I made an appointment and was able to see Ernesto. It was my first time at this salon and he spent about 10 min figuring out my hair and having a conversation about what I wanted. He was good about guiding me into getting more of a "clean up" cut due to the condition of my hair. I appreciated this! I wanted a fun new haircut, but it would have been WAYYY too short if he had done the style I was thinking of. The cut was good- although I like to wait until I wash it out to make my final opinion. Since moving to LA a year ago I've had about 3 complete hair disasters at salons listed as top LA salons, all in Hollywood. All salons where they make you feel like they are doing you a favor to even be in your presence.... I recently turned my bottle platinum blonde into brunette and was pretty unsatisfied with it. On Saturday I went into Eddy James wanting some of my blonde back, already expecting them to say it's impossible and that it would turn orange. What response did I actually get from Eddy? "Nothing's impossible. Let's do it." (I think angels started singing at that moment). We did the foils, the dryer, the shampoo, blow dried it... And in my head I think "oh s#*+, it's too dark." Nothing worse than disliking the finished result and knowing you have to be that annoying customer to make them redo it. Then before I even say a word Eddy says "it's too dark don't you think?" And he fixes it without me having to even say anything! He spent probably a total of 4 hours making sure my hair looked exactly how it should. He didn't rush me out of his chair with something subpar and that meant the world to me. This place is a gem, and everyone leaving (no matter who their stylist was) looked perfect. Stephanie is great! Very friendly and easy to talk to. Salon is clean and cute. Stephanie consulted with me on what exactly I wanted and how we should go about it in a healthy way (I wanted to go lighter in color). I didn't feel pressured to do anything or pay for anything extra. Stephanie has great hair herself so why wouldn't I trust her with my hair. Shannon Garst is awesome! She is an expert and very experienced in color and style -- both of which I needed. She did a beautiful job on my graying hair, so that I can grow it out and still have it look gorgeous. Natural with a bit of an "edge". I love it. She is very cool and confident. I had an appointment with Eddy James. However Eddy James did not do anything on my hair. It was all his assistance who clearly we're not very knowledgeable and had just come out of beauty school which is exactly what they told me. I let them know & even brought my own hair dye to ensure that I have the right haircolor. But afterwards he insisted on putting glaze into my hair to changer me for it which changed the haircolor than I originally intended for my wedding. Needless to say my hair is so much darker than it was supposed to be and I am quite disappointed in the outcome. I will likely never go back. read more

This is the best place. I highly recommend going to Rachael! I have been in LA for three years now, and have had the WORSE haircuts/dyes from friends telling me to "go to their person", or "hey I know this place and its cheap". I am always hesitant and afraid to jump on any hairdressers band wagon - because I am afraid it's going to turn out awful. Well thankfully I found Rachael, whom I found, to be the best hairdresser yet for me. I actually found Rachael on instagram from a friends profile. She had countless pictures of amazing blowouts, cuts and dyes. To actually see her before and after pictures sold me on getting a dye. I sent her a message comment through Instagram and called Eddy James salon the next day to make an appointment. Eddy James salon is super nice, there was no egos at the door, or in the chair. Rachael listened to what I wanted and offered great collaboration to make sure I am getting what I want and to make my dye look natural. Complete TRUST. She is also super down to earth and creates a great atmosphere. She did ombre highlights in my hair, to make the highlights look natural and not the highlights I have had in the past. She listened and delivered an amazing dye that, I cant even count, how many people have commented or asked how my hair naturally highlights. I was in a restaurant and my waitress had beautifully colored hair and I asked her who her hair colorist was. She told me it was Eddy James at a salon by the same name in Studio City so I went and felt that Eddy was truly knowledgeable in hair color. Oh dear! I had my hair cut by Maya. She is very friendly and says she knows what she is doing. I am sure she does, however, I tried to show her pictures of how I wanted my hair and I told her I like big hair and don't want to lose length. She said she would cut off one inch but OMG I NOW HAVE A SHORT HAIR HAIRCUT AND no volume she thinned it all out and my hair is very curly and now the layers are all too short. I have no volume left what's whoever. I wish she would have consulted me instead of saying I know what I am doing I am very confident!! This salon, having been to many, isn't necessarily my favorite atmosphere and customer service-wise, with the glowing exception of my actual stylist, but there is a lot of good. They are indeed very good with color, which is my priority as a bottle redhead (you fuck that up, you're gonna have a bad time. Trust me, spend the money.) It's a bit loud and chaotic in there and they assail my ears with the same saccharine Top 40 that most salons do, but that's to be expected, and I understand that my visceral aversion to all things Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran is statistically abnormal. It is beautifully decorated though, which eases the pain of hearing "Evergreen" every single time I'm in there. And there's coffee. The owner is also lovely, though I'm not his client. It should be noted, however, that the receptionist seems to have a difficult time recepting. Without fail, every time I call, before I can finish identifying myself and giving my appointment request, I'm put on hold for 8,9 minutes at a time. (Listen, I've been a receptionist- it's stressful and requires much multitasking, but one of the key points of the job is to, you know, not keep people on hold forever and then forget about them.) So if you call to make an appointment, you may have to make several attempts. On to the best part, for me- Mallory. She's absolutely excellent with color and very accommodating. She listens to you, which is surprisingly uncommon, and realizes that everyone's hair is different and not all hair treatments fit everyone- she'll tailor them to your hair. I have had many MANY traumatic hair experiences (including one days before my sisters wedding at a pricey, French owned salon in West Hollywood- I still have nightmares) so I am very particular about how I want my hair done. A lot of things just don't work on my hair, and Mallory took all of it to heart, which I was very grateful for. Highly recommend going to her (if you can get an appointment!) read more

Curly hair don't care but it needs an extra special stylist to cut it tight and right! I asked Eddy who he would recommend to cut my naturally curly hair and he suggested Christyani "Christy" Osorio (who he mentioned had trained at Vidal Sassoon). Christy is so sweet and down to earth and did such a great job cutting my hair that I have become a regular getting my cut done with her every month. Curly hair has its quirks and I feel that Christy has given me the most technically perfect cuts of my life! The hair just lays right and grows out well so that even when it is longer, the cut still holds its shape. I have an A-Line Bob and she's done a great job maintaining it. She also does a great scalp massage when she's washing my hair. The salon is always clean and I like the satin robes they offer - much nicer to wear than a smock. I've found the staff to be really nice and friendly every time I go. I've chatted a few times with Eddy and he always has a funky car parked outside - look for his decal wrapped Porsche or vintage El Camino right outside the shop. There is a parking lot on the side and also metered parking on Ventura. Eddy James Salon is highly professional but it also has the feel of a neighborhood spot. Okay, so....I've been going to my "previous" hairstylist with a certain look that I thought was as good as it would get with my "prone to get brassy" hair. B\S! Something told me (my husband) that my hair is not up to par. Here is the story...... I have been wantin to acheive the dark hair with a purple color panel all the way around the middle for a long time! But everytime I would end up with a mettalic, two-toned purple! very weird. Berta is my absolute favorite hair stylist! When first moved to LA I tried so many stylist to try to achieve the cut and color I wanted. Finally, I put my trust in Berta's had and it took off from there. She help me achieve the perfect blonde balayage! After this experience I tried to call the salon several times, and, (surprise!) the manager was never in and wouldn't return my message. I have Two words for you all reading this and that's = SHANNON GARST!! She is an amazing colorist and cut hair perfectly. Other salons have always over paid and was treated like every other customer. I've know Shannon for sometime and knew she did hair but thank god I finally went to her... She turned my hair from a dull dry horses tail to beautiful, shiny and healthy. I needed some major damage control. I was referred to the salon. They got me in right away and I was greeted by numerous smiling faces. Mallory was wonderful. She took her time with me and made sure everything was absolutely perfect. The playlist was hip and fun. The place was a tiffany blue with sunshine beaming in. The clients were colorful and entertaining. I was shocked at how vivacious my hair looked after Mallory worked her magic. And I ended up paying much less than I anticipated given the three-hour process. I'm one for chasing deals, but I will be a regular here from now on. I am due for another haircut and was searching for Eddy's phone number to make the appointment and saw these terrible reviews and couldn't believe it! I have had very long hair for years and could never find a stylist I could trust enough to just let them do what they wanted with my hair until I met Eddy.
