This is the dirtiest establishment I have ever been to. Like I can't even call it a club, it was just a big gathering of people and noise. The "dancefloor" is so small people can't even move around and enjoy themselves; it's like sardines in a can that's how tight it is. You also have to literally push your way through people to get to the bathroom, which is also a mess. There was literally throw up and piss everywhere, and the sink was broken, so nobody could wash their hands. I'm gagging just thinking about it. At the end of the night they turn the lights on and you can see that the floor is a wet sticky dirty hot ass mess, I can't believe that I wore my cute shoes here! Ugh. The staff was also rude. It was 20 degrees outside when my friends and I went, and we were trying to wait for an uber at the door, but they kicked us out into the cold anyway. Ehh. It's a dive college bar on a college campus. It's not like there are options within walking distance. Crappy beer, overpriced mixed drinks, but you suck it up and enjoy yourself and sleep off your hangover on Wednesday. Four years of my undergrad life were spent in and out of this place. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, but the one thing the Edge is known for is it's consistency. People come and go, graduate or not, but the Edge remains to remind us of the pitchers of Natty on Tuesdays, Garito the DJ on Thursdays, skipping the line (if you're able) on the weekends when it's cold outside, and ODU Homecoming game days in which all the alumni from the past 10+ years come back for football and try to drink like there in undergrad again. Say what you want about the Edge, but you'll graduate and look upon your nights there with a mixture of cringe, nostalgia, fondness and regret all at once. I've been going to this bar since I was 18 and I'm 22 now and can honestly this is the worst bar on planet earth. $5 for a terrible well drink in a plastic cup and 4.50 for a Luke warm bud light. It reeks of cigarettes and piss. I abhor this place but have no other choice to go to at Odu. There's always a guy on the microphone who just screams cuss words into it. I was once taking a piss here and cockroach was running up on the wall next to me; pretty cool stuff. The only good thing about this place is that you can smoke cigarettes inside in a room separated by plastic flaps and the stench of smoke and puke. If you want dysentery I highly suggest eating some of the food here. If you have a drinking problem and want to up the ante the edge Odu is the place for you read more

Usually when the drinks come in plastic cups, that means they're cheap. Not here. The Edge ODU is a sad excuse for a college bar. It's small, crowded, dirty and overpriced. Really, the only thing The Edge has the edge on is its proximity to campus. I feel bad for ODU students who lack better choices of where to consume their beverages. So The Edge is cool, but I would really only recommend going if you're a college student at ODU. In a nutshell the bar is primarily students, very small, and the vibe is very geared towards entertaining the younger crowd. They do offer a full bar and a variety of drink/food options for patrons, and they also have pretty good deals throughout the week. Tuesdays offer $2 pitchers of beer, Thursdays they host a Ladies Night, Happy hour is from 5-9, and they often have pretty good deals then as well. Staff is always super friendly, and excited to serve the bar guests - Chino and Will are great bartenders! During the weekends the bar can get pretty packed and there is not tons of room to move around/dance, but you could always grab a table and hang out. There is a smoking room available in the back, and there used to be a pool table but it was recently removed. The bathrooms are gross, but thats just part of The Edge's charm. There is a parking lot located on the side of the building and behind the building as well, but avoid the parking lot next to 711 (towing issues). So if you're an ODU student this is the place to be, but otherwise maybe check out another local bar on Colley or Granby street. read more

All I can say is the drinks are pretty cheap for a bar which is the only good factor about this. Need to do better on keeping the females bathrooms clean. Constantyl out of toilet paper and soap-disgusting. So, literally anyone who used the bathroom did no wash their hands. When it gets packed, it's packed and hard to even dance. So i started ODU in 2013. Been coming here since on and off for ladies night when there nothing else to do. Never really had a problem. Same playlist every time its cool. Met a lot of great people there. Womans bathroom is always a mess w/no tissue and soap so i pray when i go i dont have to pee. Never had a serious issue w/bartenders. Thought it was weird on some girls bdays youd get shots and a bottle of champagne but every time mine came around they didnt "have any" whatever. The ladies night drink specials the only reason i would go. Took a hiatus and go back for a ladies night the door man or whatever he tells me you have to know a bartender and pic/code word to get in sent from them. I said how long have yall been doing this. He tells me for a couple years. Thats a LIE been coming here for years and first ive heard of this. he's dismissive and rude. Me and my friends wont be coming back. This is concerning a staff member of the edge that tried to run into my car at 11:20 p.m. we met on 48th Street, both of us leaving opposite parking lots. I tried to allow them to go, but because we each had our lights on it was difficult to see each other as he was also allowing me to go. No harm there. However apparently after waiting 10 seconds he loses his crap and tries to run into my car with his own. After moving out of his way because the lane behind The Edge is one lane he then gets out of his car come to mine and gets in my window. I admit I was juvenile and said a few choice words. But then like a child he tells me to get out of my car and say it to his face like he wants to beat me up. I don't know if this is indicative to the staff employed by the edge, but if it is I'm sure never going to this place, and we'll definitely steer people away from it. read more

I don't know what Ron is talking about, somewhat suspicious seeing as he wrote a review a year after the incident, however if it is true I'm terribly sorry these fabrications are true. This bar is a college bar, don't expect much other than that, but wait, the staff are the friendliest around I have witnessed them escort women and sometimes men to their cars when they felt unsafe. This bar also has great prices and does a great job making everyone feel welcome. Reading the other reviews I am reminded how unreliable yelp is, apparently it is a forum for ludicrous statements/accusations. Personally, in all my years at ODU no other establishment provided such an environment and regard for safety, I would know since I have worked at several bars in the area. Honestly all my friends go here and I have friends that work here so I have to give them some stars. This bar is functioning and existing for the following reasons. 1. Everybody knows the bartenders and bouncers and they know everybody. If you are known or you know them, they take care of you pretty good. 2. Without saying too much, this bar does more to welcome and socialize the people still living in student housing than any other program or student organization on campus. It sucks that ODU costs $ and debt, but this is an alright substitute for what ODU deprives it's students with. I've had a lot of fun here. 3. It is by far the most happening place at odu. In cold times when the frats get kicked off and the social climate near campus decides no one is safe to party, the edge will welcome you and warm you with the body heat of 400 degenerates crammed into a glorified bathroom for the small price of your health, money and sanity. You can also smoke cigs inside which is great for not freezing or overheating or dealing with people outside of the bar. CONS: this place is literally a septic tank. Brown/black sludge and gunk is everywhere. This gunk smells like a combination of vomit, sewage, spilled beer, dip, and blood; and if you've ever spent a week hanging out here then you know it is more than likely a combination of it all. With the massive crowds, irresponsible (but cool) staff, mix of students and locals, and people too drunk to stand up, this is probably the easiest place in Norfolk to watch a fight happen. A lot of crazy things happen here and outside of the bar. It gets old. The bathroom has been a plumbing nightmare since I moved here years ago. If you spend more than 5 minutes in it, for the rest of the night you will smell like you clawed through eleven miles of sewage to escape from Shawshank. I saw someone comment about the roaches and it was honestly an understatement Those who to "try out a new place" and come here are seen as and treated as problems by not only the staff but by the customers, and you will probably get double charged, less alcohol than you asked/paid for, and you may have to wait fifteen minutes for a bud light as all of the well-known people get free drinks and major discounts. If you are an outsider, you are definitely the one getting put in a headlock by the bouncers and thrown on the concrete outside... Even if you did nothing and a drunk regular starts a problem with you. It used to be funny to watch but maybe that's not so "chill" after all. I am convinced that the health department thinks this is a barbershop and hasn't been here to visit in over ten years. Nothing else can explain how this place is still LEGALLY open. TL;DR The only consistent and live place to have drinks near ODU. The bartenders know what they are doing. If you know people that work and eat/drink here, then you will have a pretty good time and be treated well as long as don't make waves and spend minimal time in bathroom. If you don't have friends that work/hang out here.. well I would literally go to ANY other bar in the city over this one. Always wear closed toed shoes if you plan on paying this place a visit. The Edge kicked my sick friend out and immediately called the cops on her. Rather then trying to help her, they left us outside freezing with 6 cops interagating us. The Edge is the type of establishment that gives no regard to the well-being of their customers and over-prices already broke college kids. Always had a great time going here. If you want the "college experience" then this is the place. They have DJ's almost every night and of course tailgating before football. It seems that they have a bad rap from all the yelp trolls out there, I would just go and see for yourself.
