I have just eaten the leftovers from last night's dinner that I had at Edgewater Restaurant. One big beautiful crab cake. So big that I am full all over again. So big that I really should have split it with my spouse. Huge chunks of crab meat - HUGE! Is there filler? Yes and I love the filler all by itself. There isn't much of it but, what there is as a filler, is delicious all by itself. That crab cake was luxurious, delicious and - in my humble opinion - the best crab cake I have ever had. AND I LIVE IN MARYLAND!!! You would never dream that such an angelic crab cake comes from a run of the mill restaurant on a regular commercial street somewhere NOT on the water! But it does! Edgewater Restaurant is old, familiar, comfortable, not fancy but great!!! The staff - who I think are mostly part of the same family that owns the place - are all lovely. The salad bar is fresh and plentiful. I am a big city guy who lives on the East Coast. I shouldn't like this sort of place. But I do! I have eaten all over the world, in some of the finest restaurants on 6 continents. - some are Michelin starred restaurants. I was really looking forward to trying the Edgewater Restaurant, but the experience fell a little short. Our server was excellent, but the food itself was pretty bland. The crab dip didn't look--or taste--much like crab, and the twice-cooked potatoes seemed like they'd been made well in advance. The ambiance didn't help either. The dining room felt dark, and a very drunk, loud customer at the bar made it hard to enjoy the meal. It's certainly a good value for the price, but personally, I'd rather pay a bit more for a meal--and an atmosphere--I can actually enjoy. read more

This hidden gem looks like a house so you will definitely miss it if you're driving fast. Once you're inside you're immediately greeted by one of the staff and seated. Everyone is so friendly and you feel at home. There is a little table showing desserts(stay away until you get your food) it's deliciously presented and tempting. I ordered the double crab cakes with stewed tomatoes and all I can say is OMG! The picture doesn't do it justice! Not only was it delicious it was HUGE! I have the second one for lunch today! I had a lemonade to drink but there is a full bar. This is a place I would come to again and again just for the ambiance and the food! packed with lump crabmeat but it was seasoned well. My friend had the blackened stuffed Rockfish and that didn't disappointed our taste buds(could've had a little more seasoning) but overall it was delicious! What a great place! Outstanding crabcakes and such a great price! Lots of other seafood to choose from too. I spent more than twice as much in Annapolis the night before. And the staff makes you feel at home and valued. I'll make a special trip to Edgewater just to go there! This is a favorite for the local obviously, but not so with tourists . We come for the Crab Cakes and Fried Chicken, there are seasonal specialities but the cake and chicken are always on the menu, always the same and always delicious. Our secret to success here is carry-out, we take it home. While I love the quirky but delicious salad bar, the service can be more frustrating than helpful. Bar service is always great. read more

OMGoodness I could have stopped there but WHY?! I had the seafood plater broiled. Gigantic scallops, steamed shrimp, STUFFED SHRIMP, fried clams. The only thing that didn't make me feel loved was the twiced baked potato. Flat out NO. Don't get it. Get the fries. Fresh cut and delish. The fried stuffed shrimp were awesome as well. The green beans were pretty darn tasty in my opinion. Not over cooked or over seasoned. Coleslaw isn't offered as a side but was available on the salad which was very small but everything was fresh. It was very crowded, so an obvious choice by the regulars. We opted for the home made cup cakes for dessert to go because there was no way we could've eaten another single thing! This place might not have all the visual effects but it lacks absolutely nothing when it comes to amazing seafood. Ridiculous sized portions. Great wait staff. This is a family owned and operated restaurant. It is not a fancy place. In fact, the place looked outdated but the service and food made up for lackluster appearance of the place. We started with the cream of crab (option to add sherry and old bay - a must). Delicious. We loved the soup so much, we ordered another bowl to go. We also got fried pork chops. These had good flavors but a little disappointed that it was not crispy. Of course we also got the double boiled lump crab cakes with two sides. The crabcakes were huge and no fillers. It could used just a little more seasoning. The salad bar is one of the side option. It's not a huge salad bar but had the basic items. The fried okra was perfectly fried. Was glad to see clam strips on the menu as those are harder to find around here it seems and such a fun lunch item. Other than that, lots of fried seafood options if you're into that. We all had the shrimp stuffed with crab cake. Included 3 overcooked shrimp with less than mediocre crabmeat. I've had better at food trucks and truck stops. Also had the green beans, salad bar, and fries as sides. The green beans were actually hot and good. The iceberg lettuce salad bar was very basic and disappointing. The ambiance is like a dark 1970s wood paneling theme throughout. The seating is confusing as the bar feels like it's in the middle of the dining area. The wait staff is very friendly and it feels like the whole family just hangs out on the dining room. Although the folks were nice, we do not recommend as the food is subpar. I have been coming to this restaurant for years! So, I had a craving for their cream of crab soup - which is THEEEE BEST I've had - and a crab cake. Pre-pandemic, one could dine in this quaint restaurant, enjoying a yummy salad bar that has a delicious potato salad and pasta salad, along with awesome service.....I digress... Back to my craving...so I'm place the order and make the drive. I was informed it would be about an hour and a half before my food would ready. I paused then let them know they were worth the wait...oh boy it was!!!! CREAM OF CRAB WAS DELICIOUS!!! Next time I order takeout, I will be sure to post pics!! I was hesitant about even writing a review but I definitely want this to be known. On Friday 3/28 after being released from the hospital I decided I wanted a good crab cake. I have been to the restaurant several times and have enjoyed the food each time. Me being black do realize its a predominately white restaurant but I have always being treated fair for the most part. Until Friday!! I wasn't driving as I was just released from the hospital. We pull into the parking lot and as my friend was backing into the parking space we are facing the back white doors, it's a young white male standing in the door and as I look at him he gives me the middle finger. I first thought it has to be someone behind us that he was doing that too. As we got out the vehicle I looked around and it was no one else in the parking lot. My friend didn't see what happened as she was backing up. I told her about it and we were both shocked because this guy had to know we were coming in. We both after all that still wanted the food. After we walk in who comes out to hand us menu's, the same young man that just gave me the finger. I decided to just drop the menus on the bar and leave. I thought about this for a couple days and decided to let it be known what's going on at this restaurant. Maybe someone else has had a similar experience. read more

We went here for Father's Day and I was very disappointed. The highs: the cream of crab soup was delicious, except I only got one piece of lump crab in it. But the flavor was on point so I let that slide. The calamari & wings were also good. My drink was also very good & strong! I got the blueberry lemon drop martini. I only got one because it was so strong, but still sweet (because I like sweet drinks lol). The lows: everything else. My sister got the steak, asked for it to be medium well but they made it rare and it didn't have any flavor and was chewy. She couldn't eat it so sent it back. I got the imperial crab with steamed tomatoes & twice baked potato & I wish I had them take it back. I can't even describe it, it was dry (crab imperial & three potato) & just not good. The pic makes the food look edible and I can't explain how/why the imperial was dry although it has some sort of "sauce" on it but it was. The sauce looked like it was egg based like a soufle. I wasted my money because I only took two bites of it and took it home and threw it in the trash ‍. My other sister & mom got the crab stuffed shrimp and they weren't too impressed by their food either. My dad got the broiled seafood platter & he seemed to like it. Come here for the broiled jumbo lump crab cakes! Hands down the best I've ever had! There was so little breading, I'm amazed the cakes stayed together. We ordered the special trio -- crab cake, Cajun blackened rockfish and fried oysters with 2 sides (okra and French fries). It was plenty for the 2 of us to share. I came here for dinner with a friend and we were seated. I ordered the broiled jumbo lump crakes with twice baked potato and it was really delicious! So much lump crab meat and I ordered two crab cakes. But I got so full that I only ate one crab cake. The only disadvantage is the ginger ale I had was very flat and I didn't like it so I decided to just get a glass of water. But other than that I highly recommend the broiled crab cakes. My wife and I hears about this restaurant from a colleague of ours and it did not disappoint. They are now working on non-covid policy - meaning no masks or social distancing. Both my wife and i ordered jumbo crab cakes and I had stewed tomatoes and she had string beans. My wife complimented on how the string beans had a nice buttery taste. The crab cakes were jumbo and meaty. It was truly a great meal. If you are looking for a ritzy restaurant, this is not the place. The decor is old and it has been around since the 1940s, but the food and the staff are wonderful! The people who work there really enjoy their job and you can tell! If i could give this place 0 stars i would. Me and my boyfriend went there last wednesday night, waitresses didn't do anything but take our order and made side staff do everything they should have been doing. Place is dirty, old and stinks. My Crab Cake had hair and dead nats cooked inside of them, french fries were not cooked at all, and the twice baked potato was cold. The waitress talked about her sexual life with her friends at one of the booths distributing our appetite, she was rude and carried herself in a disgusting manner, bartender was also very rude to the people sitting at the bar and still expected tips from them. Side staff was nice and polite but slow and loud as well. 10/10 do not recommend! read more

It's been a while for me since being at the Edgewater Restaurant, but it shined for my return trip. You have to know what their strengths are and work around it. My wife got the crab cakes and loved it. They don't do all that much for me and I rarely order them. They had broiled or baked rockfish as a special and I asked if they could deep fry it - waitress said she needed to check with the kitchen. The answer was yes, and they sure know how to bread and fry rockfish. I got a very large piece of perfectly crusted (not battered) very fresh rockfish. I'm one of those people who really like their throwback salad bar. So for me, the salad bar, rolls and fantastic fried rockfish was a memorable meal. Wandering Maryland you find all sorts of interesting places. Yesterday as we were wandering around (pictures shared as well) we found this cool place. Actually, a couple of locals we talked to recommended the place. 1. The orange roughy was out of this world! 2. The traditional Maryland crab dip, awesome! 3. My wife had the crab cakes, (awesome) 4. F-Bomb, Trash-Mouth Food: On work travel, desided to drive an hour out of my way for some local seafood home-cooking during a Friday evening when the restaurant was packed with patrons in their 30s-70s. While initially having a nice wait at the small quaint bar as they cooked my order, one of the younger waitresses (mid-20s to 30s) decided it was appropriate and acceptable to describe some event in her life at the tops of her lungs with F*** this & F*** that; etc. She was speaking to another waitress in her 50s, so apparently this sort of low-class, peasant, rude disgusting behavior in front of the all the customers is permitted by the Ownership.
