    Happy Labor Day! 2025
    Nessa R.

After a quick trip out of D.C., on our Holiday off, we came to try a new spot that a girlfriend of mine recommended. I frequent a LOT of restaurants and I treat my visits just like I treat my relationships. I know what I want, have my expectations, and know how I need be treated. It's real simple. When you know, you know, and Coconut Joe's Bar & Grill is that place! They are sticking around in my world. Ambiance is refreshing as it is located near water, where boats can dock and come in for food. It's giving Outer Banks vibes. Service, our sweet waitress was the BEST! She was pregnant and was literally the hardest worker in there! It was busy and I did have to go to the bar to get help but when I said "excuse me" I was rudely told to "hang on" by the bartender. I just walked around and got what I needed, super rude girl BUT our waitress was so nice it really made up for it. Red Flag forgiven! Let's get into it! Deviled Eggs - Really Good! Crab cake - Delicious! It's hard for me to agree to a crab cake being good, this one was it! Drinks - Great! The other half agrees, we will be back! Not quite 5 stars for me - I'm intricate when it comes to my observations, some plates were chipped, the appetizer ones specifically on our visit. A little help is needed with bussers , and cleanliness.

We chose to stay local for the unofficial last day of summer, which of course is Labor Day! I rate restaurants relative to what they are. That said, Coconut Joe's Bar & Grill is a perfect blend of ultimate casual dining but with awesome waterfront views and above average food and drinks. Given my own formula, it equals a 5 in my book. The crab topped deviled eggs were loaded with crab and at $14, it was well worth the price. Our crab cake entrées were definitely lump, with just enough filler to keep them together.. Two thumbs up and our drinks were delicious. Our server could not have been more friendly and accommodating and she was pregnant. I can't imagine how she was without being with child! If you want to have a good time on the water while eating good food and tasty drinks, stop by Coconut Joe's, you'll leave with a smile!

The location was perfect as it was a beautiful day to sit by the water. They have live bands if you stay long enough however I would t recommend sitting upstairs unless you can handle loud music! I'm sad I can't remember the group that was performing as they were really nice. Our waitress was kind and attentive. The menu has some interesting choices on there, matches I would never put together. It actually may work for some others but I wasn't a fan. Chorizo in the mussels.....never! Who thought of that? Maybe that's a staple in that part of the state. The bathrooms were clean, the atmosphere was again really nice and mixed crowd. I wouldn't have my kids out there after dark though as it could be over stimulating for them. The drinks were pretty good. There was a slight discrepancy, but the manager handled it immediately so I was thankful. Yes I will return, the next time I can take more pictures. Somehow the ones I took disappeared..ughhhh!

Delicious and meaty crab cake for less than $20! That is the most amount of meat I've seen in a crab cake. The place is clean and has a beautiful view as well. High review is well deserved.

    Salad and soup

Coconut Joe's -- 5 Stars Because Nikki Ran the Bar Like Mission Control Walked into Coconut Joe's expecting a basic lunch, left emotionally supported, hydrated, and full of crab. Ordered a Caesar salad tossed with bacon, because if you're not putting pork in your salad, what are you even doing? Cold, crisp, dressed like it was taking headshots for its modeling portfolio. Then the cream of crab soup showed up -- thick, seasoned, real chunks of crab, not that mystery-flake stuff. It was the kind of soup that makes you stop mid-conversation and reevaluate life. Washed everything down with an orange crush, which went down so easy it should come with a seatbelt. But the real star of the whole visit was Nikki behind the bar. Let me be clear: Nikki ran that bar like NASA counting down to a launch. Full bar of people, drinks flying, food landing, and somehow she made it feel like I was the only one sitting there. Every empty glass was just a short-term inconvenience. Every ask was handled before I even finished the sentence.

I didn't order any food but the grapefruit crush was fantastic and the atmosphere was wonderful. The service was quick and friendly, with the sun shining on a beautiful Saturday, it was the perfect place to unwind. Sipping a great drink and taking in the views with my friend made it a standout stop during our visit to the Annapolis area.

Our food selections were 10 out of 10. Although items were fried it was not greasy. Coconut shrimp was very big pieces and the other food had generous portions. Service was good even with them being busy. We sat out back on long table they do not have wait staff come to the table you have to order drinks and food at the bar if that does not appeal to you there is several places to sit inside as well. The pineapple jalapeño 4/10 wasn't the best so we sent them back for the painkillers which was spot on. We enjoyed having shade and sun off and on with the covered area. The also had a live band which was good with good music. Will def be back.

The Pier has a new name and is under new ownership & management. It is now Coconut Joe's (as it was a few years ago). We had lunch there today, and everything is GREATLY improved. We were totally impressed. We ordered the Deviled Eggs Chesapeake. They came out with a huge chunk of jumbo lump crabmeat on each egg. The cream of crab soup was excellent (the serving sizes are more like a bowl, not a cup, so the prices were very reasonable for the quantity served). We asked to sit in the back (inside upper deck), where the bartenders take care of you. Our server was Callie, and she was very pleasant. Lunch is a great time to go if you want to linger and chat while enjoying the food & the view.

Mediocre food but what really turned us off was all of the dead bugs along the window sill where we were eating-disgusting and inexcusable.

Food came out fast, hot, and loaded up the nachos were stacked heavy, not skimpy, with real toppings and good melt on the cheese. The ribs were glazed perfectly, tender, and messy in the best way. Crispy onion straws on the side, solid portions, and nothing felt rushed or thrown together. You could tell the kitchen was locked in. Drinks were cold, poured right, and never empty. But the real reason this place gets 5 stars is Georgia. She handled service, bartending, and the whole flow like a pro. Friendly, attentive, fast, and kept the energy right the entire time. You can tell when someone actually knows their craft and she absolutely does. Great food. Great service. Great vibe. Easy 5 stars. I'll definitely be back. Very fresh and they tasted great. The onion rings were greatly good along with excellent cole slaw and collard greens. All very fresh, tasty and in perfect sized portions. The service was also pretty fast but we were here doing a slow period. I assume on weekends when this place is busy you might wait a while. The minor drawbacks are: 1. The inside dining area is very small so this place must get crowded during busy periods. The outdoor seating area is covered but sort of lame and not very inviting. We dined inside which only seats about 20 or more. It wouldn't be comfortable in 90° plus weather outside 2. They have a gravel parking lot which is kind of awkward. It's also very difficult and dangerous making a left turn out of this place onto Central Avenue. Regardless, we will definitely be going back here because the food is just fantastic. Looking forward to next time.

If you have an alternative child i really don't recommend coming here, they will be treated worse then a pedophile actively hitting on children, maybe even worse then someone waving around a conservative flag. Employees are genuine dickheads. Adding on to this - when i ate the burger from takeout, the bread was stale, the meat was hard to chew. The meat tasted like slim jims. If i was to stick a slim jim and start chewing on leather i would. But not everyone wants to go spend their money to go chew on leather and slim jims. that was the worse fucking burger i've ever had in my life and ive had some pretty shitty burgers. and ontop of that your service is fucking horrible and the ambiance is horrible. If you wanna have a good week PLEASE don't go here.
