BEAUTIFUL FOOD AND PEOPLE. My friend and I came here on our lunch break (hungry nursing students on a clinical rotation in the area) and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We were greeted and taken care of right away by the friendly woman behind the counter (I wish I could remember her name!). The food came out quickly and was both delicious and authentic (Latina American here). The decor added to the experience as well. I wish the place was a tiny bit bigger to accommodate more people, but that isn't a big deal. We'll definitely be returning! read more

When El Norte closed a few years back, we all grieved! They served the most amazIng, fresh, yummy and reasonably priced Mexican food on the North Side. Everything had their own unique seasoning and flavoring - the kind of quality you just don't find in most Mexican chain restaurants. When I heard Edgewater Tacos was the Phoenix that rose from the ashes of El Norte, I hightailed it over...and I was not disappointed! It is a tiny place - I do miss the larger space they used to have. But it has that one of a kind, unique vibe, from the colorful decor to the vibrant flavors of the seasonings and sauces, and the fresh, homemade ingredients. I had a 3-taco plate. The fish taco was so good I could have eaten three more! The chorizo had just the right amount of heat and sharp flavor. And the avocado and cheese was gooey, rich and heavenly! The refried beans were not a bland afterthought, but hearty, rich and satisfying. I am looking forward to sampling much more on the menu. I want to see if their chorizo burrito is as memorable as the last one I had at El Norte. If the last meal I had is any indication, the odds are excellent. read more

I've lived in Edgewater for so long and I've just recently discovered this? How insulting! Holy Moly! I must say the tacos are delicious and tasty! I was on my way home last night and decided to walk home and I discovered it while walking. I literally live around the corner from this place and I have passed it a few times, but today I decided to go in. First, the owners of Edgewater Tacos are super nice and pleasant. I am a stickler for great customer service and I was not disappointed. I order 3 tacos (fish, pork, and steak) with a side of fries and guac and sour cream on the side. All 3 tacos were delicious. However the fish and pork were my favorites. The fish and pork tacos didn't need any guac or sour cream added. The pork was seasoned and flavored well and the fish taco had just the right amount of this wonderful creamy chipotle sauce that's not spicy or overpowering. I can't wait to go back to try the rest of their tacos and other menu items. I think I found my new taco spot. read more

I am OBSESSED with this place! Great authentic Mexican food on the north side, which is hard to come by. I recently moved to the suburbs, but make sure to come out to this place at least a couple of times a month. My favorite are the carne asada tacos, but I'm also a fan of the fish tacos. My boyfriend prefers to get the chorizo tacos, which are really well seasoned. I often see Patty (one of the owners) there and she's always so cheerful and welcoming to her customers! read more

This is the most expensive fast food Mexican place I've ever encountered, before they raised their prices we used to pick up food from here 2-3 times per week then we found a cheaper place that is not as good but comparable and more affordable called El Pulpo Loco on Clark in Rogers Park. For the longest time, I felt that Edgewater is a barren desert when it comes to good Mexican food. I mean the options have been very limited for some time. As I was walking down Bryn Mawr I saw the space that was formerly the pizza joint was lit up. And to my amazement, there's a taco place there. Whaaaat?! So let me tell you right now, this is the spot that Edgewater has been sorely missing, sorely needing. The owner Patti is super duper nice and passionate about her vision and after having several of their menu items, I've found the food to be high quality with excellent flavor. This is hands down my go-to restaurant for Mexican food. The first thing I tried was a torta with carne asada (served with grilled pineapple. YUM!),avacodo and BACON. Yes they will put bacon on stuff if you ask. The bread was perfect quality (super important for a torta) and it was one of the most delicious things I had in a long time. Also, get the horchata. They make it perfect here. The carnitas chimichanga was totally amazing as well! Get it suizo if you want over the top awesome. And for desert I tried the sopapillas which did not disappoint. I was a bit disappointed in their new quesabirria because the picture showed a quesadilla overflowing with goat meat but the actual quesabirria had very little meat and the ramen beef consommé didn't need the ramen IMO. Stopping by here was a last minute decision, one that I am so happy for! My girlfriend and I were looking for a taco place and decided to go by the reviews. We were not disappointed. First, the staff are all so warm and friendly and there isn't a language barrier that you might find at other places. Being a Latino with rusty Spanish, I know my non-Spanish speaking friends find this to be a major stress reducer when language isn't an issue. A small detail but still one worth noting. As you might have guessed the tacos are fantastic, seasoned just the way I like them. The limes we received were fresh and tasted great. I feel like limes are often overlooked at other places. The salsa was good, spicy enough to enjoy but not too spicy for lightweights. We ordered al pastor, carne asada, and carnitas. It's so hard to pick a favorite but I think mine was the carnitas. We also order Jamaica, which was sweeter than I'm used to but still delicious, and horchata. This was not made with a mix and had a lighter consistency but good flavor. Last was a churro that was made fresh. The space is tiny but it well worth any discomfort you might experience. I can't wait to go on a warm, sunny day! read more

You can tell a restaurant offers high-quality Mexican chow when their rice and beans are gourmet-like and not just a boring afterthought, something Edgewater Tacos accomplishes. The eating area is small, but this place has gobs of potential so no doubt they will expand the dining room. (Try to get there soon so you can roll your eyes like a hipster and say, "Psh, I ate there when they only had seven chairs and a counter.") The service was friendly, with the nice lady behind the counter full of smiles and attention. The food, which was generous in its portions, came out quickly. We left happy as hell, grabbing a to-go container before we did. (Side note: Not sure the science behind it, but the leftovers were just as good, if not better.) Really great tacos, I just wish they didn't serve food with plastic utensils, styrofoam cups if you order a drink (styrofoam is so horrible for the environment). FINALLY, a taco haven! Since I work in the area, I have tried all of the food spots in the neighborhood and was hoping something new would open up. Low and behold, Edgwater Tacos opened up! Yearning for good tasting Mexican food, my co-workers and I dicided to give this place a try. This place is so delicious! The taco meat is tastefully charbroiled and marinated, the way it should be. (Unlike surrounding restaraunts) May I empasize how courteous, down to earth and friendly they are?
