Haven't been to the actual restaurant, but just had food delivered from them for first time since they moved and dropped the Azul. Food was ok. Not great, but pretty good and fairly cheap. It arrived crazy fast, and wasn't thrown into the box all crazy. One drawback was we got extra food. Which...isn't really that big a drawback . Free food. Iim not sure what kind of burrito it is, nor do I know what kind oftaco/quesadillas thing we also got, but didn't order. Not bad all in all, and it's fucking amazing that they do individual fillings for the enchiladas. Welcome to Uptown El Diamanté Azul! We heard this popular Rogers Park spot was moving to the neighborhood and were quite excited to try them out. May of 2023 they are just getting established in their new location and getting the logistics figured out. We stopped in on a Sunday night during their Grand Opening week around 7:30 to place a to-go order. Would have preferred to eat in - but we got there too close to closing time - our fault. I ordered the Enchilada Dinner - with chicken mole of course. And Rick had the Burrito Super dinner with steak. Both meals were excellent. Tender meat, good blend of seasoned veggies and beans in the burrito. Rice was moist and the refried beans were standard. My tortillas had absorbed much of the mole sauce on our walk home - if I had thought of it I would have asked for a small container of extra mole which would have been a nice enhancement since I like my enchiladas more on the "saucy" side of things. While waiting for our to go order, we chatted with the owner. She was explaining that they do not yet have a liquor license, as they want to figure out the workings of the new kitchen space before adding in alcohol. C'mon Yelpers! Usually reliable but I'm at a loss on this place rated 4 stars. There's 100s of places like this across the city. Most are 3 stars at best and this one is below average for sure. My wife had mole poblano enchiladas. No. Absolutely not. This was one of the worst I've ever tasted. So over salted and bizarre I don't have words. Not really smooth or with the complexity that makes this mole special. The beans are a blank. The chips aren't great and the salsas watery and average. I ordered the burrito with pork. It's a 3. Very average. I didn't like the pork. It had a heavy chipotle flavor. I would try it with something else. It was ok. Service was great. The place isn't remarkable. A little bit of a dive in a not terrific neighborhood. I can't recommend this restaurant. read more

We went here for dinner on the strength of the reviews and were disappointed. I initially ordered the chicken enchiladas in mole, but sent them back, as the mole sauce was way too salty. The mole I make at home is 100 times better than this, whatever it is, I suspect out of a jar. If they're making it from scratch (highly doubtful) then someone needs a lesson in sauces. Inedible. I switched to chicken tacos with refried beans and received a very average couple of tacos with beans. I don't know why people overrate Mexican food on Yelp, but it's common. Service was friendly and efficient, but the place itself is a real mish mosh, and looks like furniture was taken from several restaurants and reused. I won't be going back. read more

Super friendly owners/staff, very clean inside and appreciated everyone had masks on (even people cooking), large menu, reasonable prices and DELICIOUS food! Will be back soon!! The service was outstanding...our waiter couldn't have been any nicer on the night of Sunday 12/12! We started with the chimichangas (tasty) and diablo salsa (super good and super spicy). Disgusting and over priced . The queso dip was dried bowl of cheese with over cooked chorizo on top instead of the meal cheese dip with meat inside of it. They served it with tortillas instead of chips The complimentary bowl of chips of table when arrive was less than half full. I asked for more and was surprised they charged me for it. Delightfully surprised by how much I liked Diamante Azul. I came on a Thursday night with five other girls and there was only one other seated table at the time. We all ordered drinks pretty quickly (they are no longer BYOB!) and they arrived to our table within ten minutes. The margaritas were slightly watery but understandably because they just started serving alcohol and they're probably still perfecting the recipes. The micheladas on the other hand were very yummy and well done, and served with Modelo. Our food came out very quickly after ordering. I ordered the chorizo and lengua (tongue) tacos, and I absolutely loved them. The chorizo tasted different from other chorizo tacos I've had but none the less still very yummy. I have never tried tongue but I was feeling daring and was not disappointed. It slightly reminded me of pork belly in texture, but a very difficult taste to compare. The staff was lovely and very attentive. I felt this place had very strong and authentic Mexican food. A perfect spot to stop by next time you're in the area. read more

Do you like Mexican food? Do you like Merengue music? If you answered yes to one or both of those, this may be the place for you! I mention Merengue because that's mostly what was playing while we were there and the server asked us if it was too loud. We told her to turn it up! Dinner quickly became a dance party. The website would have you believe that this is strictly a to-go kind of place, but they have a few tables inside and it's quite welcoming and fun, if not a little crowded. We managed to squeeze 6 of us into a table near the front and only had to maneuver around the diners behind us a couple times when trying to make it to the bathroom in the back. We split some beef and chicken Small Chimichangas. I liked both of them but we all agreed the chicken was the crowd pleaser. We also got Queso Fundido with Chorizo and it wasn't incredibly different from what you might expect, but it did seem to have a lot more cinnamon and a few of my friends mentioned it was much tastier than they've had elsewhere. I asked our server, who I believe is also the owner (it's a family affair), for a recommendation and she told me to go with the Steak Fajita, which is one of the items I had been eyeing. I really liked it a lot but might go for another entree next time. The Pollo en Mole really stood out to me and a couple of my friends split a Molcajeteada for 2 People with a ton of mixed meats and added seafood. You should get the molcajete just to experience having a giant mortar of meat plopped in front of you. They are BYOB, so you're gonna save a lot of money there. Use your extra dinero to order a couple of their desserts. The Tres Leches and Flan is made in-house and we all loved the Tres Leches. I loved the customer service but the food isn't that great here. Our server was so kind, pleasant and personable and really made my experience. I feel everyone here is very kind. However, the food just isn't good. Don't get me wrong, the chips and green salsa, rice and beans here are absolutely LIT and I would just eat that. Stay away from the red salsa because it just is just heat and nothing else. However I ordered enchiladas and they were dry as well, didn't have the melty cheese on top, the sauce just tasted off and the tortilla was hard at the bottom. Though I live relatively close to here, I live even closer to Lawrence Avenue, where there are muchas taquerias. Thus Diamante Azul is never on my radar when I'm in the mood for tacos. However, I happened to read some glowing reviews of their fare and resolved to give it a try. I am glad that I did because the people are great and some of the tacos are very solid. Al pastor: very tasty De lomo: an uncommon and very tasty option--a flat whole piece of steak with refried beans Carne asada: very flavorful but salty and slightly rubbery Chile relleno: bland and a little greasy Carnitas: not flavorful other than somewhat gamey Chicken: decent, shredded not chopped bits Fish: pretty good, augmented very well by the green salsa Shrimp: ditto the fish Chorizo: not greasy but flavor just so-so Guacamole: bland and limp Red salsa: very good, especially on meat tacos Green salsa: just the right zing to liven up the guac So from now on when I want a break from the Lawrence Avenue Taco Corridor, I will come here for al pastor and de lomo tacos on my red meat days, and fish, shrimp, and chicken on my non-red-meat days. read more

When I first ordered from here in March everything was perfect! Today it was underwhelming and not worth the $24. I'm not one that is cheap but come on! The quesidillas arrived COLD and the tostada, who the hell puts BOILED carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and zucchini on a tostada?! I get I ordered veggie but that means, beans, lettuce, cheese, tomato with sprinkle of cilantro and maybe a few chopped onions. I am one of those people that likes to know what's in things that I eat, and if you're description does not include boiled vegetables DON'T add them to my tostada that should be nice and crunchy! With that said....the "shell" the tostada came on was so soggy that after removing the boiled vegetables, I had to fold it in half and it tasted as stale as stale can be! The only redeeming things from my order were the rice, despite not being $2 worth in size, and the horchata. The delivery guy was a joke too, acting as if he can't speak English when his accent is more Chicago than mine, really dude? Just too lazy to ring the doorbell and walk up the stairs! This place is literally a stone throw away from me. And I've been here at least 3-4 times --once sitting, rest either takeout or delivery. This review is for the latest, which was a takeout. So, we were lazy on Friday night and decided to go here and get some takeout. Personnel and very attentive and prompt. They were patient while my 12yo daughter looked at the menu and selected what she wanted, and then getting something for everyone else. We took a taco salad, 2 burrito dinners, 1 steak Tampiquena and 1 steak Ranchero. Bill, with tips, was $70. Don't get me wrong, I'd pay $70 for a meal for 5 people, but this is Mexican comfort food: burritos, rice, beans, some lettuce and tomatoes. Nothing life-changing --and believe me, I know my Mexican food. We came back home and had dinner. The red salsa was way too garlic-y and we ended up not eating it at all. The green one was much better. The taco salad was ok --like that, lower case "ok", no hashtags, no exclamation marks. One of the burritos was steak, which was good, and the other one was chorizo, which was ok. Tampiquena and Ranchero steaks were actually not bad at all. The meat was soft, very tasty and not overcooked, which was nice. But again... $70 for Mexican comfort food? I don't know... Place is generally clean, small, dimly lit. It is walking distance from where I live and delivers as well. Would I go again? I don't know. I really don't. I'd rather spend $70 somewhere else than here, to be honest.
