Finally stopped in after many years of driving by and wondering about this place. It has a very no frills, old school luncheonette/diner feel and it is pretty small so we were lucky there was a table available. My wife got a small stack of pancakes and an egg and I got the eggs benedict with tater tots. Both were good, the hollandaise was on the lighter side and the tots very crispy. I was very surprised of the treatment we received. It was my first time going after hearing all about the great things. The food was good but the service took away from that. My wife and I just came from a very important Dr.Appointment and we had a few things we needed to discuss. As we were talking, the manager came up and rudely asked that they needed the table. We were only there for 1/2 hour start to finish. It is not our fault they didn't have enough space to put more tables. The one thing that really twisted my shorts was, 6 high schoolers were there before and after us. I will never patronize that establishment due to the absurd treatment. We finally got to stop at Edie's for a Sunday breakfast. The house it's in dates back 160 years so there is a lot of history. It's a very quaint , neighborhood establishment with friendly service. We ordered the following : Blueberry pancakes - Huge Corned beef hash- very good, not salty Egg platter with tater tots Coffee us good and I love the fact that there are so many potato options to choose from. Edie's is in a historic building that has had many lives as various things: a post office, a general store..the interior is now an old fashioned Diner vibe. We love Edie's luncheonette for a diner type foods. The place is an old home/gas station and has a long history in Little Silver that you can see and read about on the walls. The Good: The food & the people If you appreciate good breakfast or sandwiches out this place is for you. There is a long counter where you can almost always grab a seat. The eggs, omelettes and pancakes are awesome. We love it hear because everyone can get their favorite breakfast. The sandwiches come with chips, but you can swap them out for a wide variety of fries (Seasoned, curly, shoe string --- and my favorite -- tater tots!) The staff are warm and welcoming in. They make even the littlest visitors feel special. The Challenge: There are only 2 off street parking spaces. So be prepared to park along Rumson Road and be careful opening your door into traffic. COVID Ordering: we've ordered a number of times since the region went into lockdown. Ordering and pick up has been super easy. The staff are still super warm and friendly. The food is perfectly packed and still nice and hot when we get home. They provide everyone you need, utensils, ketchup, etc. Recently they have added table to the front two parking spaces and a tent behind the building for more tables. We haven't had a chance to sit for a meal here, but it looks welcoming and safely set up. read more

We stopped by for lunch last week and had solid club sandwiches. A roast beef on rye for my husband and a turkey on toasted white bread for me. Also excellent was the iced tea. Service was really friendly and fast. Wasn't too hot under the umbrella out front, even though it was around 90 degrees. Looking forward to going back soon. read more

We were traveling to Sea Bright and was looking for a place to grab some lunch just before 2:00. Found this gem via googlemaps and was very glad we stopped. Food was perfect and service was quick. However, I felt terrible as we walked out we noticed closing time was 2:00/Sunday. As I mentioned it was just before 2:00 that we arrived, they did not turn us away like others would have done. We were glad that they served us without any issues very happy they did. I give them 5 stars for good food, service and satisfaction. Will definitely be more aware of closing times in the future. I am not sure how all of these reviews forgot to cover the single most heavenly item on Edie's menu.... THE LOBSTER SALAD SANDWICH! This is not your everyday lunch plate. This is a cry to the havens to thank them for putting lobsters in the ocean so Edie's could transform them into the best sammy anyone has ever eaten! I've been going here since I was a kid, and this is the ONLY thing I order off of the menu. Served on a hard roll (why would you mess it up with something else?) it's serves fresh & clean with a crunchy dill pickle and a bag of chips. It's a somewhat creamy, yet still light and perfect mixture of lobster, mayo, and seasonings. When visiting my family, my tradition is to swing by Edie's for a take-out version on my way to the airport. This way I can carry it on my flight back to California and have something spectacular mid-flight. If you're in this little neck of the woods, seek out the counter at Edie's and saddle up for a cry to the heavens for lobsters. read more

First of all, I have to say I have a soft spot for any place that considers themselves a "luncheonette". It's such a cute and old timey word but it perfectly describes Edie's. It seems pretty traditional, with stools around a long counter and a fairly limited selection of dishes. Although I think the variety is actually quite good. I was expecting them to have strictly lunch dishes but I think they served breakfast all day as well. I had the half sandwich and cup of soup and it came out exactly like I imagined. Their soup of the day was an Italian wedding which was very good and came with bow tie noodles. Not very traditional but still tasty and with a good portion of meatballs. As for my sandwich I went with the classic tuna and it was, for me, everything I could have ever hoped for. Probably one of the best tuna sandwiches I have had because it was the perfect ratio of mayo to tuna with just a bit of seasoning and viola. It was simple, which another reviewer mentioned as well...but as though that was a bad thing! The sandwich was literally just bread and tuna salad. No tomato, no lettuce, no onion. To me, this seems like a lunch classic. So simple and plain but sooo delicious. The wheat bread it came on was nice and soft as well (I opted for mine un-toasted) Would definitely, definitely return to this place. This place deserves an up to date review. After searching for a "Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives" type place in Monmouth County for a few years, I think I've finally found it. Edies is a great local spot with delicious food, both breakfast and lunch. Ive been to Edies twice in the last month, once for the famous reuben and once for the famous pancakes. Over the past few years ive become a reuben aficionado. I try to get one every place I go and I am constantly in search of "the best." A friend recommended going to Edies to try theirs out. The corn beef was thick cut and full of flavor. The rye bread was toasted perfectly enough to absorb the thousand island and stay firm. The kraut and thousand island added the perfect finishing touch on this classic sandwich. 4 out of 5 for this reuben. Im not much of a breakfast guy, but after reading reviews about the pancakes I had to try them. Fluffy and perfect. The pancakes were very good. That is very hard for me to say. I would go back time and time again just for them. Apparently the French Toast is even better. I will let you know when I go again. Oh and the hash browns are great too. Service was good. What a great local spot that comes with a local feel (that's hard to find now-a-days). Edie's makes you feel like you are eating with the locals (and you often are). The food isn't anything to brag about (it's diner quality food) but the service is a great, the laid back atmosphere is inviting and the quality is a notch up from Denny's or IHOP (which I'd never eat, too greasy). Before there were diners like the Blue Swan, the Americana, Four Seasons, Tip Top, or probably the 1,000 other similar assembly line feeding troughs in New Jersey, there were places like Edie's. It is a wonder it has survived. But pass by any morning or afternoon and you'll always see a line of cars parked outside. Sometimes, it seems, there are more cars outside than there are seats inside! And it's not surprising to see Bentleys and Teslas parked next to some kind of broken down beater. It's that kind of place. So what's the draw? The food? Nah. I think it's the atmosphere: The ancient counter, the plastic covered counter stools, the oversized red booths bolted to the floor, and the tables for two or four squeezed in between them. The building has been around since 1849 when Little Silver was known as Parkerville. So there is an ambiance of authenticity and good basic food that you aren't going to find anywhere else. And I'll tell you a secret... Some years ago I met my wife and daughters at Edie's for breakfast. I was running late; they had already ordered. When I got there, I hurried to the table, slipped in between a mom and a dad and their two kids having breakfast at the next table, sat down and looked over the menu. I immediately started getting the hairy eyeball from my three girls. I thought they were just pissed that I was late, but I soon figured out that they wanted me to look at the man and his family sitting at the next table. So I did. What was the big deal? Some middle aged guy in a ball cap, his ginger wife and their kids having breakfast. I looked back at them as if to say, "What? A family's having breakfast. What's the big deal?" I got that familiar look of exasperation from the three of them, then returned to trying to decide between the Edies fries and the tater tots when I heard the man say in an unmistakeable voice, "No, you have to finish you pancakes before you can sit in Daddy's lap." My head turned so fast it is a wonder it didn't roll off my shoulders. It was Bruce and his family out for breakfast, Yes, THAT Bruce. Kind of amazing really. But that's the thing about Edie's, You never know who you are going to run into there. And in the interest of full disclosure, I have never seen him there since. But that's the thing about Edie's. The best of what it is a local breakfast lunch place. The food isn't fancy but it is perfectly cooked and how fancy do you need your eggs? Chicken salad is all white meat but not dry or with to much mayo. The lentil soup is delicious .
