Layout is odd. Someone kept trying to get the TV to work. The TV kept blaring with nothing but static. I didn't understand why he didn't turn the volume down while he tried to get it to work. This was happening simultaneously while the radio was as blaring. Now for the food: The pancakes were terrible. I tried to doctor them with butter & syrup, but they clearly had too much flour in the batter. I explained to the manager. She said she would remove the pancake price. Pancakes were $8 +$3 for the sausage. She removed the $11 charge and added $5.50 for the sausage. The skillet had potatoes of all different sizes that tasted like that had not been seasoned at all. There were some potatoes that were rotted (see photo); just don't include them. The chorizo tasted terrible; it was not spicy at all. Instead of spice it had a weird flavor. The waitress was STELLAR! When I went to pay my bill, I presented a credit card. I was told that the credit card may or may not go through because they were having problems. I was then told that she would take my name and phone number and try to run it when the machine was working. I asked my companion if I could borrow cash. I was then informed, " yes cash is better." I retrieved my credit card and I asked whether she ran the credit card because was still manipulating the credit card machine, still trying to run my card. She said "oh no, it didn't go through. We don't have any Internet right now." I said, "OK I'll just make sure on my statement that I didn't get charged. She told me, "go ahead I WANT you to make sure." I left a generous tip for the waitress because she was the absolute best thing about this restaurant. I hope one day that the waitress will find a restaurant that is worthy of her talent and countenance." read more

Slow service, food was ok ...slapped two cheese on fries barely melted... Pricing was alittle much for the food.

I'm only giving them one star because the waitress was kind. The pancakes were inedible. The batter had too much flour and not enough of anything else. The only way you could eat them is if you smother them with the schmuckers single serving syrup packets they provided. Syrup should be an accoutrement, not a necessity. The manager gave an attitude when I sent them back. It was bad enough that I had to explain why I didn't like them, beyond they didn't taste good. I ordered the meat lovers skillet with no tomatoes(why are they even in there?) and no ham. When my skillet arrived, ham made an appearance. The cheese is on the bottom of the skillet, the knife cuts for everything was haphazard. The bacon was in strips not chopped. It was all very weird. Nothing seemed to be seasoned. I was left with a weird aftertaste, like I had ingested too much oil. I do not recommend and I will not be returning. As to the ambiance, the footprint is one of an old school, shiny, silver diner. It's been refurbished inside and outside, stripped of the nostalgia, for a generic beachy vibe. If you want diner food go a little further to Amy's omelet house. Or if you want good, basic breakfast, millers is a block away. read more

Before exploring Sandy Hook, I decided to stop at Sides Diner.  Sides Diner is a relatively new diner down the shore, so I was looking forward to trying it. Atmosphere: Sides Diner is located in Long Branch right near Red Bank. It's located on the main road in a stand-alone building. The inside is a small modern looking diner. It has a full-length bar, a few booths, and tables. One thing I must include is that the bathrooms were one of the most well kept of any restaurant I've been too. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh. The waitress refilled it often, and I have no complaints. Food: Sides Diner has a lot more healthy options than many diners. There are kale salads, plenty of sandwiches, along with the standard breakfast and lunch options. Sides are only open until 4 pm, so there aren't dinner options. I decided to order the French onion soup. It came out quickly and had plenty of onions as well as a thick layer of cheese on top. It was delicious. I was craving a gyro, so I ordered a beef gyro. It came with French fries. The Gyro was good. It was nothing extraordinary but it tasted good. Service: The server was friendly, and the food came out quickly. I have no complaints. My mother went there for Mother's Day and the waitress was so evil to her. She hardly said a word. She looked so miserable in all black with black hair & said "what do you want" rudely. She never smiled and didn't address any problem and ask if we were okay. She told us she could do a substitute and then charged and extra $5 after removing two items from my mothers order. The manager did nothing to fix this situation. The manager said that they used to not "charge for fruit 1901" also.. way to make my mother feel old. I am so upset that her special day was ruined. Also got charged $3 for a lemonade drink when it was supposed to be included with the kids meal.! Also, we got the wrong order of pancakes they were supposed to be different but they came out as Mickey Mouse.. (which describes the people who worked there and their service.! ) a joke! Didn't even say Happy Mother's Day to my Mother.. we used to like this restaurant before it changed the name and service, we are super unhappy with this experience. My mother chose this place because she enjoyed it before and this whole experience has left us with a bad taste in our mouth! Highly unacceptable. My boyfriend and I wanted to have a coffee in the afternoon as we had woken up too late due to work. We decided to go to this place because is really close to home and we were kind of surprised. It's a clean place - organized, with beautiful and well-kept flowers, comfortable environment. It is a little expensive. The pancake is good. I ate the buttermilk pancake and my boyfriend ate the banana pancake. Grilled cheese was delicious! The coffees were tasty and the service was excellent. I love this little diner! We grew up in NJ but unfortunately ended up putting down roots in horrible Texas. Visits to family bring us back to The Garden State, and we always have breakfast here at least twice in the week. Sides is a simple, cheerful diner with great food and delightful waitstaff. Grand opening and Long Branch gets to welcome another diner style restaurant to Broadway. Sides Grill and Coffee welcomes patrons with pretty flowers and balloons at their entrance and they have double set of doors which helps maintain comfortable climate. The room is bright since the length of building has windows to bring in natural light. The hostess was friendly and escorts you to a table which has salt/pepper/ketchup/sugars/napkins. The coffee was good, they have milk/creamers in a cup. The menu offers breakfast/lunch/dinner. I noticed they have avocado toast with lemon zest/chili flakes the way its suppose to be made. We tried breakfast, 2 eggs over-easy, bacon/hash browns/ toast and a garden veggie omelet/hash browns/rye toast. The wait for everything casually arrived. We stopped in got breakfast and was there for 40 minutes at their pace. Seemed like a family owned business. I think they are still learning the flow of customers, training employees still etc. Will take a few more visits to accurately give a review, but worth a try. read more

Decided to give this place a try after reading the reviews. I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict the eggs were cooked perfectly with a nice thick cut of Canadian bacon. The potatoes were very dry a burnt. The reason for the two star rating is because I was never offered a refill on my coffee and had to wait for my check and there were only two other tables occupied.
