This is a cozy place for its size and a very well ordered machine. We never had to wait for anything. The servers all seemed to work as a team and helped each other out as if service was their main goal. They were all very pleasant and attentive. Been years since I was last here, the salad bar is long gone. Soda were good, and I got a burger that was way overcooked but still juicy and decent. My mom's blt was made with dried out, reheated bacon that was super chewy and not the best tasting. Coleslaw had a good taste but was dried out, and the service was mostly non-existant. Bathroom was out of toilet paper and filthy. Went here because it was closer than where I was originally going, and figured I'd save 20 minutes of driving. What happened? We got dinner specials. The chicken rice soup was great,(diner soups always are), my pasta primavera was excellent, my wife's pot roast was disgusting, as was something supposedly called a potato pancake that came with it. It looked and tasted like a sponge. There was no choice for desert. We were told we were getting lemon coconut cake. Uh, OK? It was horrible and stale. Did anyone who worked there even try this beforehand? Was our server in on this? She was nice enough. We just hand to complain to the hostess so they could take this off the menu. My sisters and I absolutely enjoy the Blue Swan. We make sure to visit every time we are in Jersey. The pork chops in carrot tomato sauce is my new favorite, so much so I'm making it at home. Rarely do I write a review with my mouth full but the food here at this little classic neon clad Greek old school classic has my tastebuds dancing and my belly happy. I gotta say I was not expecting the Blue Boy burger to be as good as it is but WOW! The flavor on this burger is uniquely incredible, it transcends whatever you expect from a burger... Why you ask? First there's the bun, then they add blue cheese and atop that is a hot burger patty (medium rare please), which melts the cheese to a sublime bed, and next to it is what kicks this burger in to the hall of fame for me, a deep dark brown onion jam with applewood back on that together is a mildly sweet and savory.... Chili?? I don't even know how to describe it other than it's like a reduced stew of sorts that makes the most incredible topping for this burger. So damn good it's worth a planned trip way down here from Middlesex next time I'm down south! read more

The food is great here. Large selection of various meals. Pricing is fair. The ambiance is relaxed, clean, and welcoming, like a classic diner should be. The service is prompt and professional. They don't keep bugging you when you're eating, but they are very attentive. Everything is always fresh, with large portions. Their selection of soups, salads, sides, and desserts are all exceptional. Drink refills are free. Dinner vegetable substitutions are easy. I really really really wanted to like it here. I love east coast diners and came with a work colleague for a quick evening bite. Service was ok and folks inside were generally friendly (for Jersey standards). The menu is massive and way too big to choose from. They probably have 100 dishes as options, though many are permutations of the same thing (like breakfast sandwiches). I'm reviewing this based on experience. I found this treasure of a diner back in the early 2000s when I used to make frequent trips in the area with my parents. It became a normal stop for us whenever we'd get here. The diner atmosphere was just as great as the food, and I have some amazing NJ Diners around me already. While I don't get here as much as I used, I would make this a stop whenever I was passing through the area while traveling to South NJ, even if it meant getting off the exit to go a little off path to where I was going. The pancakes alone there were and still are the best pancakes I have ever had. I strong suggest the Bluberry Pancakes. I ended up introducing friends to this diner after one night we were at a concert in Holmdel and we decided to go South instead of North, just to get the "Best food we could" after a night of taking in some second hand stuff. Let's just say that my friends now also make frequent visits there too and none of us live in the area. Don't let the other reviews fool you. I've never had a bad experience or a bad meal here, at all. I only wish Blue Swan was closer as I'd go to this diner over the ones I have here (Time to Eat & Hillsborough & Bridgewater Diner). This diner used to be really good. The quality has gone down significantly in the past few years. During covid they instituted a new online system which was great but they stopped taking order by phone. Their automated call system says you can still order by phone. And when my husband calls he has no problem getting someone to take his order over the phone. Today (Sunday which I know is a busy day for diners and breakfast places) I tried to order online but the system was down. So I called. I had an employee hang up on me after telling me I couldn't order by phone. And when I called back to say the online system was down, they advised I should use door dash to order. When we called to ask for redo salads for these errors they redid one salad that was chopped and we returned to the other salad had peppers and again no chicken. We called back a third time to discuss these errors asking for a refund and KAYLEE ( the manager) could not refund us. She said we could bring back the previous 2 salads she made to prove the errors to her and then redo them again.We told her we were not going to do that because it was unsanitary. She then fought us on it being our fault we did not specify about the peppers, however, why should we have to tell anyone why we did not want peppers? I told them how I wanted the food and they prepared it WRONG! Not once but twice. When we returned to the restaurant for the third time to pick up our order but she made us prove to her in a picture that there were peppers in the salad. She then said no those are cucumbers. I have attached a picture here for proof. The manager, Kaylee was fighting us in front of the restaurant about the food that was served incorrectly. Now returned home a third time and the order is STILL incorrect. Moral of the story, the food sucked and the management/ customer service was TERRIBLE! Blue Swan Diner does not remind me of the old diners, it is a little bigger than I imagined. There is plenty of seating and when we were there we did not have to wait. Everything is great. They have a huge menu. We had lunch at the Blue Swan and you just must try the Lone Star Burger. It has the best onion ring toppings and the burger is cooked to your liking and perfect. Their fries are super tasty. If you like milk shakes, you will be in heaven here. Try the chocolate. Our grandson likes the vanilla, and it is really good, but I thought the chocolate was the best. Later, the server reached over my daughter's shoulder, without asking, to replenish her Iced Tea. I had only taken two small sips, so I held my glass up and got about an inch refill.
