Edith was a pleasure to work with on our wedding cake! She was very accommodating during our cake tasting, presenting us with many combinations to try, and answering all of our questions. She inquired about our wedding vision, and then suggested a cake design that fit seamlessly into it. On our wedding day, the cake drop-off and assembly were very smooth. To top it off, the cake was delicious!!!

Edith was amazing to work with. Our wedding cake was perfect!! We met with Edith for a testing a few months before our wedding. After the tasting she put together a plan in for our wedding cake. On our wedding day the cake was delivered and it came out perfect !! I would highly recommend her for any wedding or big event !!

Thank you Edith for creating such an amazing dessert spread. We didn't even have any left-overs because so many people were enjoying your feast! Edith even incorporated my own family's walnuts to add a special and individual touch!

Wedding cake topper one year later. Edith Myer's beautiful cake still had moisture and beauty! Still delicious!

Our wedding cake topper was a wonderful part of our one year wedding anniversary. Still pretty and yummy! Edith was so fun to work with - her sample cakes were all delicious and beautiful works of art! Not only did Edith make our wedding cake but also created bite size Mexican desserts for our next day taco party! Over the top -guests raved ! I will use Edith Myer for all of my special events!

Our fun take on wedding cake

When a detail-oriented bride goes into her wedding with really high expectations, certain things are bound to disappoint (a bouquet that gets pollen on your dress, timelines that don't actually happen, that random cousin that gets too drunk and pukes on your friend, etc). Based on seeing photos of Edith's previous work and the sense of her meticulous attention to detail that I got through our interaction, I had every confidence that my cake would be flat-out amazing... and it was! I uploaded a photo of the masterpiece itself to avoid the disservice of trying to describe it, but suffice it to say it was even more unique and fabulous than I'd hoped. And, we had many guests comment on that it tasted just as good as it looked! Edith is very talented, incredibly professional, and surprisingly reasonably priced compared to some of the other bakers we consulted. I'd recommend her in a second!

    Anti-white wedding cake :)

Edith Meyer is truly a genius! Not only are her baking skills phenomenal but she was able to convey my vision of a wedding cake into, simply put, an art form. Ace of Cakes, eat your heart out. I didn't want a traditional white wedding cake and conveyed this to her during our consultation. I asked if she could create a stack of gift boxes resembling presents. A couple weeks before the wedding, (I know seemingly last minute but it was a misunderstanding on my part) I sent her various paper samples that I used to create my wedding invitation. She incorporated the colors and specifically the design of the Japanese rice paper into the cake's design. In no time at all, she sent me a watercolor sketch of my cake. Wow! She nailed it. I couldn't wait to see it on the big day. Needless to say, Edith did not disappoint. The cake was a big hit and it fooled our guests - many who thought it was a stack of presents and not our wedding cake. Hilarious. Testimony to her phenomenal baking skills: not a single slice was spared and people were still asking the servers if there was any cake left. I think they thought they were hoarding cake slices! :D Her cakes are simply delish. They are moist and oh so flavorful - she does not cut corners. She uses fresh, organic ingredients and locally grown produce for her fillings. We happened to go with her Bittersweet Chocolate cake with Vanilla Bean Buttercream Frosting. She also did a groom's cake for me - it was a surprise for him and much to my delight, he loved it. His cake featured his beloved Georgia Tech YellowJacket: Buzz. Cake Flavor: Hazelnut Cream cake with Vanilla Bean Frosting. Edith was so pleasant and professional throughout this whole process - I found her to be most charming and exceptional in her service. I'm sure you will too.

    my naked cake

Edith was the first cake baker that didn't laugh in my face when I told her that I wanted a naked cake. Meaning now foundit/butter cream frosting on the outside of my cake. In fact she had already done one and that pretty much sealed the deal. Oh she also was the first cake baker that understood that my husband can't have any dairy products and she was willing to bake a special non-dairy cupcake for him for our big day. The cake was amazing and exactly what we wanted. We cared more about how the cake tasted then it being some big over the top looking cake. We choose an organic lemon pound cake with oholaa berry cream filling and it was amazing. Coming from a bride that ate only ate a bagel on her wedding day the cake was the best tasting thing I have ever had. Edith does an amazing job and from the time you meet and do your tasting to the time she delivers your cake she there for you and you will dream about your cake.

Edith was an amazing woman to work with on our wedding cake! Meeting with her for our cake tasting, was like getting together with an old friend. She got to know us, our story, likes & dislikes. She was informative without being pushy and really just seemed to have our best interest in mind. Her prices were reasonable, her customer service is excellent & the outcome was over the top! Our cake was everything we wanted & so much more (in aesthetic & flavor). Everyone raved about how much they loved the flavors- we did a white cake w/ lemon curd filling & a meyer lemon cake with strawberry buttercream filling. SO good. I would highly recommend Edith Meyer Wedding Cakes for your wedding, engagement part, or any event that calls for a specialty cake!

I asked Edith for a "whimsical" cake and got exactly what I wanted

One word describes Edith Meyer: GENIUS Actually I could go on and on about her .... so I will. I got married a few months ago in Aptos and she made 5 different, unbelievable cakes for us, EVERYBODY complimented us on the artistry and the TASTE of the cakes. Normally you get one or the other, the look or the taste, but with Edith Meyer cakes you actually get both. She nails it. We did our cakes as centerpieces for all of the tables. She has these beautiful antique cakestands that she loaned us and the cakes replaced flowers as centerpieces and they looked brilliant and magical on the tables. I''ll try to attach a picture. What I also love about Edith is that she listens and just seems to know what the bride wants. She just took a heavy weight off of my shoulders. I trusted her completely and she got the job done and it was absolutely perfect. Everybody loved it. We soooooooooooooooo love Edith Meyer. We tried so many other cake places in and near Santa Cruz. Edith charges a little more, but it is so incredibly worth it, and the taste is out of this world. I must confess I wasn't able to wait until our one year anniversary to sneak a little slice off the top tier of our wedding cake from the freezer. It was just as delicious as I remembered that night. Incredible.

This is the sketch of her "design" for my cake, except that she noted she wouldn't provide the flowers. So... what did she design, exactly?

INITIAL REVIEW (unedited): I did an initial consultation with Edith and then signed a contract with her and gave her a deposit. She would not respond to email after that. I had to loop in the venue coordinator who recommended her onto my email threads in order to get Edith to respond to anything from me. She finally sent me a sketch of my cake that was a plain white three-tiered cake with one plain ribbon around each tier, and a flower on each tier. She noted she would not provide the flowers (they would need to come from my florist). So it was just a plain three-tier cake with one lonely ribbon on each tier, and literally no other detail. The cake incorporated none of my design elements (indeed, it incorporated no design elements, period), so I asked to come down for a follow-up consultation (noting I would pay the additional fee to do so). I offered Edith the option to instead return my deposit and we'd go our separate ways. She opted to return my deposit. EDIT: Edith has responded and said that the plain white cake she sketched for me was exactly as described in the contract. This is misleading and betrays an incomprehension of the actual issue on Edith's part. The big issue, at least for me, was that she wouldn't respond to email. That's where it began, at least. Instead of make time to talk to me about my design, she sent me a sketch that matched the contract description she wrote up after our initial meeting. I thought the sketch was plain and did not incorporate any design elements. It was not creative. I was disappointed. I realize now that the reason that my cake design incorporated none of my design elements was because Edith had apparently forgotten everything we talked about in our initial consultation and was referring only to the contract description, and apparently not to any notes from what I had told her at our consultation, to prepare the design. I told her I needed to do another consultation because the sketch was not what I had in mind. She smugly told me it was "PRECISELY" (which she used in her comment below as well) what the contract stated. Clearly, the problem is that the client is an unreasonable and implacable because she even hates the same design that was "PRECISELY" in the contract! No. Edith conveniently forgets that she had been ignoring my emails trying to have input on the cake for over a month. She also glosses over the fact that I asked to come down for another consultation to give her more direction and offered to pay extra for her time. She chose to return my deposit rather than make time to learn what I wanted out of my wedding cake. Does she view the description in her contract as a starting point for discussion or as the end-description of the product? I think she, herself, is unclear on this, or if she is not unclear she exploits the ambiguity to her benefit. I've just uploaded the sketch she sent me to the photos here. You can take a look at what she "designed" and judge for yourself. I think it looks like a plain cake with nothing done to it. Keep in mind she was clear that the flowers are not part of her design and are meant to simulate what she wanted my florist to provide. I think there is one particular objective fact that shows that the "communication issue" is really that Edith dropped the ball on my order and not that we had some sort of personal issue that could not be resolved: She told me at our consultation she would incorporate the design on the lace from my dress into the cake. I was thrilled at this and, in response to her request, sent her pictures of my dress. She did not incorporate them into my sketch and, later, when I asked about this, she told me it was a new design element and she would need to draw me up a new contract and collect an additional fee. But... it was her idea that she came up with at my consultation (before she drew up the contract) and I had sent her photos of the dress at her request...? Was I irrational in concluding that she would incorporate the lace design from my dress into my cake when it was she who brought it up and asked for the pictures? When should I have asked her about the additional charge that this would incur? Should I have known that I needed to get multiple different contracts from her throughout the process? Working with Edith was a confusing experience. She was at first non-communicative, then defensive, and then escalated our conflict for no reason. For me, though, the bottom line is this: The wedding cake is the focal point of the wedding. Do you want your cake designed by a rattled momtrepreneur struggling to juggle her current clients? That's what the mishmash of mixed reviews for Edith indicates to me is going on. I want to feel confident that my wedding cake will be taken care of, and I don't think I can get that with Edith.

We are forever grateful to Edith for creating the cake of our dreams! We went into our tasting not sure of what we wanted and are so happy we worked with someone so creative, artistic and thoughtful as Edith. Edith used our wedding invitation design as the basis for her creation and sketched the most gorgeous fern up a full 5 layers of cake during the consultation. It was hard to choose which of her cakes/frostings to choose since they all were delicious. Edith is one of the few bakers who sources all organic products in her cakes and it makes a huge difference. When we saw our cake for the first time - we were blown away by how she was able to perfectly execute her vision to reality. it was stunning and went perfectly with the aesthetic of our wedding. We received so many compliments on the cake throughout the night - not only on how it looked, but on how it tasted. We're lucky enough that our caterer saved some extra cake (in addition to the topper) and have been slicing off a piece every other night from the freezer. :) Hand's down, Edith Meyer is the perfect person for wedding cakes - her artistic talent is second to none, she creates designs that are thoughtful and extend from the ideas you already have for your wedding, the organic ingredients she uses elevate the quality of traditional wedding cakes, and she's an incredibly nice and sweet person. We would definitely recommend Edith to any couple looking for a special cake on their wedding day.

Edith is easy to work with very friendly and professional.. we first met her at a historical house, which gave a great vibe. The tasting and meeting went well, I'm actually not a cake fan at all but I fell in love her frosting's. I showed her a few photos and described to her the type of cake I wanted.. I explained to her we were on a strict budget and she happily worked within our budget..she suggested that we get a 3 tier cake instead of a 5 tier and have a sheet cake to serve all of the guest.. on our wedding day my caked turned out exactly how I wanted it, white fondant with silver bands and sugar butterflies it turned out beautiful.. Even better it tasted amazing.. Our guest loved it.. I chose vanilla bean cake with strawberry frosting for the tiered cake and red velvet with espresso frosting.. both amazing.. Thanks you Edith for the amazing cake!

This is a truly family-owned and operated Santa Cruz business through and through, and it shows in every single detail. Honestly, the quality of their baked goods is absolutely unsurpassed, not just locally but anywhere I've had cookies, and I don't say that lightly. I'm especially picky when it comes to desserts, and these blew me away. Special shout-out to the birthday cake cookies, they are completely out of this world!! We've had the chance to meet the family a couple of times, and they are genuinely salt-of-the-earth people.
