From eight weeks old, to five years old, my daughter thrived at Discovery. The same teachers that she had, my son now has. The daycare is as clean as any daycare is going to be. I can tell you, it is more sanitary than my house, with two kids, at the end of a (week) end day with them. SO, how they keep it as clean as they do, with more than two kids in each room - is truly something. As for potty training - I actually give them credit for potty training my kids. My husband always say, "we got lucky!" but really, the teachers did it for us. Positive reinforcement, continual reminders, sticker charts - they did it all to make sure their potty days were successful ones. The staff is hands down the best, and so many have been there for so long. Most who are Moms, also have their kids there in other rooms. That speaks volumes to me. IN addition to that - there are several who have left for college, and come back for summers, or who leave hoping to make more money (because everyone knows how underpaid child education is) and then come back! Everyday, we get a print out and a hand written note about what our kids did that day, if they were happy/sad/sensitive, what they played with, etc. They spend so much time outside, that at tub time every night, we could make our own sandbox :-) In the bigger room, just before Kindergarten, they spend less time outside, but that is because they are preparing them for what lies ahead in Kindergarten! At my daughter's first parent/teacher meeting in Kindergarten - we were told that she is excelling, and far above where she is expected to be at this point, one month into the school year!! Could not be more proud, and owe that thanks to Discovery. Any concern, though there be few, are always thoughtfully addressed by the owner and the staff. The comments that the ratio of children to teachers is high depends on what your opinion is, really. The state has regulations - and they have as many kids as possible to teachers, in order to run a profitable business. Otherwise, why run the business? Discovery - you keep doing you. I'd send my kids there again in a heartbeat, and hope that the "one person who is saved" by the negative post from earlier (jeesh) reads *this* post - and realizes that from a MOTHER, (not a disgruntled employee) you'd be doing your kids, and yourself a favor - to send them to such a great school.

Special thanks to the children who joined us in the first show to play tambourines, maracas, and drumsticks. In the second show for older children, others volunteered to demonstrate their new ventriloquial skills after choosing a puppet of their choice from the big drum case. Volunteers were encouraged to say their first name into the microphone and try moving the puppet's mouth three times as they said "One, Two, Three" with their new puppet voice. Special thanks to Mr. Jarod, the teacher who volunteered to be our HUMAN DUMMY! He wore our ventriloquist face mask, played the "ringy, dingy, thingy" and "sang" our "No Bully Zone" original song with Chelsea The Chimpanzee. (No, they did not sing at the same time... we're not that good!)

They do "homework" in daycare to ensure they are advancing academically for their age. If there is a concern, such as speech, Lisa will have a discussion to allow you to take the next step. The weekly rate of the daycare is very affordable and includes snack and lunch. Our daughter loves going to this daycare and has made many friends and is right where she should be developmentally. I have filled out a form with personal information, been photographed and provided my license. This past week, I went as usual, was told my photo was terrible, was rephotographed and then told I needed to pay. This has never happened before. The two women at the desk told me that it had been other workers at reception who should not have let me in, but they were the checkers that have let me in before. The two receptionists were not willing to listen; they were not willing to accept that they were switching conditions for my participation. They offered to "sell" a day pass. Then said we didn't have to pay for it. The YMCA advertises itself as a warm, welcoming, supportive environment for all manner of families. The experience left me with a deep sense of not belonging. I was there simply to assist my 17 month old granddaughter in the pool. I was very uncomfortable. The welcoming environment should begin at the reception desk. The receptionists are woefully unskilled at dealing with their customers. My daughter pays $100 a month for a family membership.

I have been doing water aerobics for five years in the teaching pool at 5:30 in the morning and…read moreever since before Christmas myself and other participants have been complaining about the temperature of the water. Before Christmas, the water used to be between 90 and 92 since Christmas it has been anywhere from 86 to 89 the last day I was there I was told by the lifeguard that the water would be a little cooler today because it was cloudy they were adding cold water to the pool to clear it little by little each day. I had a pool for 30 years and I never heard of adding cold water to clear up a cloudy pool . I was always under the impression to clear a pull up from clouding as you add clarify ,that day when I left the pool the front desk I said goodbye and the person at the front desk said see you tomorrow I said no you won't because the water in the teaching pool is too cold and I won't be back for a couple of weeks that person said to me oh yesterday that pool was 93° I said no it wasn't the next day on your website on fb it stated that the heater was being repaired. So obviously that pool was not 93 and we had been complaining about it for two weeks. I do hope that when I return the water temperature is warmer. I know that pool is used for people that have arthritis and prefer the water to be warmer.

Seems as though not much has changed since 2018. I was told the same thing by the school my child…read moreattended, "they have no jurisdiction". Went all the way to a meeting with the assistant superintendent so I hope something changes. Avoid after school program that is at the school. We had thought paying a higher price for after school care would mean better quality care, not the case at all. 2 years in a row the head counselors of the program told us their program is a "free for all". My child has ADHD, we work very closely with the school & all programs as a team to support everyone but also enforce accountability with our child where poor choices are made. My child thrives in school, minor behavior issues. Made to be the "bad kid" in this after school program. Created a behavior program that they did not keep up their end. Was supposed to redirect, was told several times by the head counselor, that it was "impossible". Didn't bring out any of the redirection items they told me they were getting. The head site director of the program was supposed to reach out to the school to figure out what was working for the school, learn about the 504 we had. Several weeks after signing the form, head site director tells me on the phone, "oh I thought the school was supposed to come to us." Many times, counselors will be 20 ft away sitting at tables rather than walking around the playground monitoring children. The final straw? Told me my child couldn't get the 1:1 attention they needed because they allowed all the children to play with a metal chain on the playground for several days. When I told Anna, the director, on the phone when they called me to kick my child out that maybe the adult counselors on the playground should have taken away the chain & held it with them because they knew it was going to be a problem for the kids Anna says, "that's a great idea!" Really? So, after my child puts it around their neck with another child, which by the way they said it "happened so fast", my child is not a ninja. Young children getting a chain around their necks doesn't happen in an instant, it means the adult counselors were not paying attention. Probably on their phones or paying attention to paperwork like we often see happening when we showed up for pick up. They left my child to try to get it off & the other child got upset (understandably), so again they probably noticed when the other child got upset. They blamed the chain being on the playground on the school. The school says they have no record of New Mornings making them aware of the chain being there, & New Mornings did nothing to mitigate the risk to the children. So, my child who was very upset that their friend got hurt; received consequences from parents for poor choices - was kicked out of their program. Our family, most importantly our child, held all the accountability & emotional trauma from New Morning's staff treatment last year. None of the adults involved in the situation received any consequences. It is clear they do not properly staff and/or train their staff. They had many kids with behavior issues but tell you they have the appropriate number of staff to child ratio per the NH law. 2 people to 23 kids with 2+ having behavior issues is not ok for the kids or the staff.
