Firstly, I don't know how his reviews are so good. My husband brought his wedding shirt to get it tailored to fit. The shirt we got back had darts/seams that were so wildly different. Looks like he measured the top and not anywhere else. Look at the photo! How can that be a good job!?? Doesn't everyone know to measure twice and cut once? Edward's sense of customer service is as good as it gets. I realized on Monday that I needed a dress tailored to wear to a wedding this weekend, and came across Edward's Yelp page. He told me that it wouldn't be a problem and that it would be finished by Friday. On Wednesday, I got a call that my dress was ready! What a wonderful man! I was in a bind 3 days before a wedding and needed my dress taken in. I was the maid of honor so this was very important. He took the dress right away and started on it! He even called me that evening and asked me to come back in to try it on again. I was so pleased with the care he took in altering the dress for me. First of all, he's not French. If you put the lie right on your sign, that should raise some red flags right there. I expected a certain level of competency when I brought my new suit in to Edward to be taken in. The suit looked all right when I picked it up, the hem lengths matched, what do I know? Unfortunately after a few hours of wearing the stitching on his work popped out, and I spent the rest of the wedding looking like a Dickensian orphan. Thank god your legs don't show in those wedding photos! I brought the suit back to Edward and showed him the results of his 'work'. Edward is awesome. I spent months searching all over Boston for suits for my wedding. I must have gone to at lease half a dozen different places. Terrible experience and would not recommend. However, I'm giving two stars instead of one because the experience started off pleasant. I brought in a bridesmaid dress almost 4 weeks before the wedding. I just needed the strap shortened and the reviews for Edward were great, so I brought it to him. He suggested that the strap also be moved over more to the center of the dress so it wouldn't continue to fall down, which I thought was great. Then it was all downhill from there. As I was walking out the door he says "Drop a few pounds. Too tight! No carbs!" Seriously???? I felt terrible. Went to go pick up the dress and everything he said he would do, wasn't completed. He moved the strap but didn't seem to shorten it and it still fell off. He also said he would reinforce the hook and eye, and he didn't. Then he proceeded again to tell me that I needed to lose weight...the dress is a fitted bodice which I was able to zip up entirely on me own and breathe in comfortably. If it were too tight, I would have needed his help to get into it. I don't appreciate being made to feel crappy about myself so he can make some more money by letting out a dress that fits already. To top it off, when I went to pay so that I could get in and out quicker next time I came, he asked for more money than originally stated. I had my slip he wrote up, but eventually agreed to pay the $5 more in effort to shut him up as he ranted for minutes about the amount of work he did. Dude, this your job, and it probably took 20 minutes, tops. Not to mention, it's more time because you didn't do any of the work in the first place. To make it worse, round 2 of picking it up, in order to not feel terrible about myself, I quickly tried it on and changed right after. As I'm leaving he says "you trying it on tells me you don't trust me." Well, Edward, I don't. And isn't it standard that I try on my garment before leaving?! What the hell? I will never go back. I will go back into the city to go to Best Fit if I ever need anything tailored again. Maybe he is good at suits, but dresses and not being pompous, are not his thing. read more

Yelp was not really around at the time, I did review him anywhere I could.I have to say I have never been blatantly ripped off in my life like this before. I live down the street and went here to get a bridesmaid dress altered..standard bridesmaid dress, no fancy materials or difficult alterations. Turnover time was fine.. I think it cost about 40. I was satisfied so a few months later I took in another standard bridesmaids dress... No joke pretty much the same dress but different color. This time he was talking about his landlord raising the rent and how expensive everything was, blah blah blah. I listened, he was a cute lil old guy. I went back to get my dress, the day before I was getting on the plane...dress fit fine, great "how much do I owe you" he says $175.00! WHAT??? The dress cost 130???????? I argued politely with him saying this was a rip off, he says it was difficult and very time consuming...again it was the same dress type as before $40 then? I got a bit more upset with him. He only takes cash...I only had 130 on me... He was willing to settle for that. I had no choice but to pay, it was my sisters wedding. I WAS FURIOUS. I ran home and grabbed the first bridesmaid dress and went back to him, I was shaking mad. I asked him to explain why the two identical dresses were charged so differently and he could not justify. I was now screaming at him...u know how bad it feels to yell at someone who looks like your grandpa? I would have punched him if I weren't going to be arrested. There was nothing more I could do. All I can say is that this is not a lie. It was the most basic dress tailoring. I contacted the BBB and learned that they do not dispute issues on price charges. I was plain screwed. I would not, I repeat NOT EVER do business with this man. Thank god for yelp, I have been waiting years to let people know what a bastard this guy is. Totally robbed. I drive by it everyday and want spit on his doorstep. Disgusting person. He was in some sort of financial bind and knew I had to pay to get the dress. You little old man make me sick, you should be so ashamed of yourself. If you need a tailor there is one right around the corner from this douche crook. And the place looks like a dump. read more

Outrageously expensive. Brought in a problem dress - neckline too loose. He claimed to fix it, charged way too much and problem reminded. If honest he'd say he couldn't fix. I was a new costumer, coming in on a recommendation...never again. read more

Eddie is great. I bought two great suits and brought it in to be fitted for my wedding. I ended up buying another suit from him that has superior material and quality. Edward has been great. I am a pretty demanding customer in some respects, and he has been very accommodating and friendly. One day he delivered my clothes to my house because my car broke down. Edward also does dry cleaning through another place in Newton, and he has been my best tailor and dry cleaner. read more
