Wow. Just wow. Edwin's Coffee really surprised me. It blew me away, actually. Ambiance. Independence. Skill. Flavor... this place has it all. Edwin is the owner and has been for 30 years. He roasts his own beans, bakes his own pastries, and does it all with no employees. I walked in here not knowing what to expect. I was somewhat overwhelmed by the abundance of variety of Torani syrup flavors on the wall and the lack of a menu to help hone my decision of the most difficult question to answer in any new coffee shop you enter - "what the hell do I want?" Edwin explained he usually converses with customers to zero in on what they would like to drink. He and I briefly chatted, and had zeroed in on a dark chocolate cherry mocha with oat milk. It was incredible. Edwin used the perfect amount of cherry flavoring and dark chocolate. I also had an incredible, homemade, blueberry muffin. It was perfect. Big, juicy blueberries, moist cake housed under a perfectly baked and delicately crisped muffin top. I gotta come back. I believe I was served by the owner. He was very friendly and seemed to value great customer service. My drink was delicious and what I hoped it would be. They didn't have a menu but can pretty much make any coffee drink. The coffee shop looked comfortable and had a nice porch area to sit at as well. My sister showed me this place when I was visiting her and was telling me on the way over about how many syrup options there were. I was thinking maybe like 6. No, Edwin has probably 20-25 different options - which, if you're a person like me, can feel overwhelming, but if you're anything like my sister, you jump at the chance to be creative with your drink. She got a blueberry vanilla latte & I got an English toffee vanilla latte. Both were a great blend and so good! The perfect balance of coffee and flavor. The food options he offers looked fantastic. He explained that there's a "turkey belt" (turkey and cheese breakfast sandwich thing- so delish. We had such a wonderful experience at Edwin's! The highlight of our visit was definitely the quiche, it was absolutely delicious. We ordered the breakfast and jalapeño quiche. You can really taste the quality in every bite. What made our visit even more memorable was Edwin himself. He was incredibly patient and took the time to explain how he makes his quiche, the ingredients he uses, and what makes each of the four varieties unique. His passion for his craft truly shines through, and it's clear that every quiche is made with care. Great food, excellent coffee, and exceptional hospitality, it's a combination that's hard to beat. Where have we been? This coffee place has been in our hood for a long time and we just got to try it pretty recently. We were super impressed with the high rating on Yelp so we tried it and indeed Edwin does deserve this high rating. Came in on a Friday morning. There were a few patrons but basically all through out the time we were there, customers are lining up for their coffee to go. Edwin, the owner was by himself but he was a PRO for handling each customers needs. We got a chance to chat with him and learned that he bought the business some 19 years ago. He was inspired by Italians to provide patrons with coffee that is definitely worth coming back for. During this visit we ordered the following: 1. Large latte for the hubby 2. Cappuccino for me 3. Three berry white chocolate chip scone 4. Cheese jalapeño pastry from the "day old" display case - which was sold for cheaper price We didn't know that we can actually order his quiche until we asked him so we had 2 to go as follows: Breakfast and Jalapeño cheese quiche. We were looking for another coffee place to hang out for breakfast. This shop popped out after a quick Yelp search with 4.7 stars from 300+ reviews. Came in on a Friday morning to the mostly empty Fairway Downs strip mall. Edwin was buzzing serving clients by himself. With less than a 5 minute wait, he asked us if we had any questions. After answers were given, he gave me a plate to put my Cheese Jalapeño pastry from the "Day Old" display case. My wife opted for the Three Berry White Chocolate Chip Scone. Our hot beverages would be a Large Latte and Cappuccino. After finishing our delicious pastries and having our generously portioned go juice poured in paper cups, we added on slices of the Breakfast and Jalapeño Cheese Quiche. FYI. He doesn't have them on display but it's always available. Edwin's has been in business for 19 years now and this is our first time in this "hole in the wall" cafe. He told us that after buying this business from his employer, he learned roasting beans from the Italians. He sells them for $19 a pound. I told him, I've found my new coffee shop. Edwin is always so patient when I go in and order multiple non-basic drinks (aka not just a regular cup a joe). The pastries are incredible and way better than any I have had at other coffee shops in the area but there's a limited amount of them so gotta be quick and early. One time I got coffee beans to take home (he ground them for me) and gah the coffee was the best I've had at home too. Sometimes it's super busy and sometimes not, but every time I go in he is working hard to keep us all caffeinated and happy. Love Edwin's. I've been coming here for 8+ years and it's still my favorite coffee shop in placer. Ed is so kind and always remembers me, my kids love coming here. My favorite drink is an iced Americano with some sugar-free mocha and then I put a tiny splash of half-and-half. It's the perfect level of sweetness, he always accommodate if I ask for half decaf. The kids got a blueberry muffin this time and they loved it so much that We got another one. They also got their own milks. The ambiance is great, with indoor and outdoor seating. Nothing like a corner store when it comes to quality delicious food. I am glad I tried the Apple Turnover. He did tell me that he makes his own stuff and I believe him as no mass production can deliver food that tastes this good. Recipe is so unadulterated. Be it the Wooey taste of egg and flour in the interior or taste of cinnamon and sugar on top. It is a class apart uncontaminated culinary skills. The apple slices in the filling were delicious by themselves and the their velvety texture was pure awesome. This is what is called as country cooking or ranch cooking so hearty. I am a coffee lover and I am not into specialty drinks. He has one Oregon chai. I always go for strong robust flavors he has out as soon as one enters they can spot. A gem! Edwin roasts his own coffee beans and has a wide variety of teas. You can really tell coffee and this business is his passion. His mother helps him and makes some of the most amazing pastries. Edwin is knowledgeable and an amazing conversationalist, so make sure you have time to talk! Place is nasty, not a menu in sight and the dudes an absolute A**Hole. We came in with a group of 4, mid day on a Saturday and there wasn't another soul in the place. Not to mention the food was trash, and there were dead roaches all over the back patio. I hate chains but you'd be better off at Starbucks. First the owner, Edwin himself, will greet you as you enter and you will be confronted with every syrup flavor imaginable to create your own special cup of coffee. Finally, you sit down with your breakfast in a comfy chair or couch in an area that looks like it could be someone's living room. Edwin and his mom are absolutely incredible. They've been running this place since 1995!! It's just the two of them now. I could feel the love and passion for their business and customers after a short conversation. Long time coming, so I always start with a house drip. To my surprise, Edwin roasts his own beans!! The roaster is placed in the front of the shop for proof. You can bring your own cups (BYOCUP)! House drip is yummy. He recommended I try both the light and medium roast. Ended with Colombian. It's incredibly fragrant. I'll have to come back to try some baked goods! All of his moms hard work goes into their freshly made baked goods. 10/10 service, flavors, and all of the above. Parking is fair in this small plaza! Dog friendly!!! There's a beautiful shaded patio for small groups and inside there are chairs and booths for customers. read more

Edwin's Coffee is a local favorite. Edwin knows some customers by name and their regular order. While I was there, two devoted locals came specifically for his espresso, both preferring it over Starbucks and Peet's. His espresso blend consists of 3 different beans: Nicaraguan, Guatemalan, and Ethiopian. I ordered a soy latte, which contained 1 shot of espresso, and thought it had a vanilla flavor. The soy milk was original flavor, so it did not contain vanilla. I also tasted the Ethiopian coffee, which has a blueberry taste. Edwin's mother bakes 4 types of quiche with a homemade crust: 1. Ham with Cheddar 2. Spinach with Cheddar 3. Breakfast - Ham, Spinach, Carrot, Onion, Mexican cheese blend, Hash Browns crust 4. Chile Relleno with Mexican cheese blend As of March 2023, quiche was $8 per slice. With 2 days advance notice, you can order a quiche pie with 7 slices for $43.50. On weekday afternoon, 3 of the 4 quiche types were sold out. While I was there, two parties in a row came specifically to have the quiche for lunch. The remaining flavor was the Spinach, which was one customer's favorite. I will definitely come back to try the beautiful, fluffy quiche. The breakfast quiche sounds especially special. Edwin's mother also bakes pastries. $2 for mini scones and small puff pastries. $4 for croissants and the huge scones. Triple Berry White Chocolate Chip scone is the bestseller. There are also raspberry scones and blackberry scones. You can also order pastries as a catering order with at least 2 days advance notice. You may help yourself to coffee from airpot thermal coffee dispensers. Edwin's offers 4 coffees from different regions of the world daily. One choice will alternate between Italian Roast coffee and French Roast coffee. One choice will be decaf. On the day I went, I had a choice of Italian Roast, Italian Roast decaf, Nicaraguan, and Ethiopian. Cups are on the counter; variety of milks (skim, lowfat, whole, soy, almond, oat) are in the fridge below and behind the counter); sweeteners/stirrers/napkins/lids are on a rack near the front door. Just help yourself then you can pay Edwin or leave $3 on the counter. Edwin's has large selections of tea and Torani syrup. Local honey from Bear River Honey Co in Loomis is sold here. So cool and convenient that you can buy coffee by the 1/4 lb! Edwin suggests to enjoy the freshly roasted coffee beans within 10 days. There are many coffees to choose from! I ended up purchasing four 1/4 pound bags of coffee to give a sampler as a birthday present. Here are the hours: 8 AM to 3 PM (Wed to Sat) 8 AM to 1 PM (Sun) Closed Mondays and Tuesdays FYI: Cafe will be on vacation 4/10/23 through 4/19/23. Edwin has been brewing at this Rocklin location for 27 years! He doesn't do social media to keep his focus on the coffee. His Primo coffee bean roaster is on display at the front of the store. The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating along with free wifi. It is located on Sunset Blvd in Rocklin in the same plaza with Primo Pizza. There is a decent amount of seating, and it felt very homey and welcoming. Edwin was working and was so nice! There is no menu but I asked if he could do a matcha latte with oat milk and he said yes. I was a little nervous to order it since it seems like he does coffee so well, but it came out really good and almost...citrusy? Surprisingly delicious! I also ordered a bagel and cream cheese which is super basic, but just what I needed. I think I made a mistake though because apparently the pastries are homemade (say the other reviews on here)!
