TL;DR: the double matcha (less sweet*) tied for the best matcha I've ever had in Sac and surrounding areas. Best matcha is from Offbeat coffee in sac, but the double at Gu Ca Phe is just as good and has its own unique charm. Worth the price, worth the drive! Amazing. If I got it with normal sweetness, I don't think I'd love it as much. Long version: Cute little spot in an unsuspecting location. I don't live in Roseville but was here for an appointment so I stopped by since this place has been on my list. After trying dozens of matchas in Sacramento and surrounding areas, this one definitely rivals the top spot. It's a small location and the service was nice and pretty standard. They also have a kiosk so you can take extra time to scroll through the menu with photos. Not a fan of the AI artwork throughout if I'm being honest but I know it's a sign of the times. And I'm glad their drinks actually do look pretty damn close to the photos unlike other businesses. I got the regular size double matcha, less sweet. If it was regular sweetness, I don't think I'd like it as much. The matcha is good quality, seems like it was freshly handwhisked but not sure. It is strong without being astringent. The matcha cream is amazing and strong as well. You def have to love matcha to enjoy this one. It's going to be stronger than something you find at Starbucks of course. I love matcha to hit me in the face so this drink was perfect. They have the good ice, too ! A similar matcha I've tried, and is my personal #1 across dozens I've tried, is from Offbeat Coffee (x2 matcha). Gu Ca Phe has finessed something similar and I honestly feel like it would be worth the drive from West Sac to Roseville just for Gu Ca Phe's double matcha. I want to try their other drinks. It's exciting to see a Vietnamese coffee spot closer to home- usually I have to drive to South Sac to get my fix. Staff was friendly and greeted me upon entry. The interior is small but clean and brightly lit. The coffee is good but weaker than I expect when getting Vietnamese coffee. It is phin dripped, and the classic flavor is there, but less creamy texture. Traditionally the brew is very strong and mixed with condensed milk only - the ice in this instance is necessary to balance the boldness. In this coffee, between the added milk and large amount of ice, it is watered down and not the full bodied experience you would expect. Overall still a good cup, and probably the best you can get in the immediate area, but not wholly satisfying if you are seeking the traditional Vietnamese coffee flavor. read more

The quality of their drinks is still great and has been consistent throughout the year. Their employees are always kind even during busy hours and long lines of customers. The interior is always well-kept and seasonally decorated but definitely not meant for sitting and chatting as the lobby quickly gets crowded when it's busy. One issue would be their rewards system. After entering your phone number on the screen, it will show you your accumulated loyalty points and the rewards available to redeem once you hit 100 points. I've been stuck at 96 points since Winter/Spring and have already brought it to the employee's attention so that they can inform the manager/owner in case they were not aware. Read some good things about their matcha, so I decided to try their Strawberry Matcha. I adjusted the sweetness to 50%. Someone came to the front and greeted me as I began to order off the kiosk. They then offered to take my order, so I ended up ordering with the worker. It's a small place. There wasn't anyone inside when I visited, but there's just a few spots to sit on along the walls. As others mentioned, the drinks contain a large amount of ice, but I thought it was a good drink. Oh my goooosh I am obsessed. I haven't been in person but have been wanting to try this place - I haven't because I'm not sure if there's any seating to study and get work done. I'll go check it out though, because I door dashed a matcha and it was perfection. I got a strawberry almond milk matcha with an extra shot of matcha and it was delicious. 100% on the sweeter side (not obnoxiously sweet like boba, but they have a sweeter hand) so ask for less sweet if you like a more mild sweetness. The bag they delivered it in was so fancy - a closed branded drink carrier, and the matcha quality was high quality. The strawberry flavor was real, not artificial, and there were little strawberry chunks that I loved. I downed this drink happily! Edit: I came in person and they have a self service kiosk and someone to help if you call for it (such sweet staff). They indeed have no tables to work at - they have 2 seats and a bench to sit at while you wait! Matcha the second time was just as good as the first, oh lord. This time I got the marshmallow brûlée with torched marshmallow and I drank it in 5 minutes it was so Carmamel-y and rich. This time I got it less sweet and, because I have a sweet tooth, I would do regular. I actually don't die for marshmallows but I ate all 3 because they tasted like rich brûlée perfection. Saw this place on TikTok and wanted to check it out since I was in the area. Plenty of parking but the store is very small. They only have two benches and from where you walk in and order. The counter is only a couple feet apart from each other and the counter was very low. The store itself is nicely decorated. Very simple. Waited a little line and ordered at the kiosk. They have a brand new matcha series and the marshmallow brûlée matcha caught my attention ($9.29). Ngl the drink is expensive, but the drink itself was good. For a Hot Egg Coffee filled to the top, you need to pay a $1.50 upgrade to large size. Still not quite filled up to the brim of a typical grande sized cup. Coffee ends up over $9 if you pay with a credit card. I had read reviews complaining about too much ice and not enough coffee, so I figured ordering hot was the way to go. I prefer hot anyway. Service was pretty fast. I beat the influx, but they all left shortly after me. My drink likely required more prep time since most people order iced drinks. Gu is perfect for when you need a caffeine boost! They specialize in Vietnamese style coffees that are typically sweetened with condensed milk & other flavorings! Cute little spot nestled between a nail salon and Subway. No indoor dining as the space is too small. I ordered the Double Matcha and the Matcha Croffle. I didn't know what a Croffle was. I guess it's a mix between a croissant and a waffle. They covered it in whipped cream and matcha syrup. It was a bit on the sweet side. Had to wipe off more than half of the topping. It's pretty small but with it being super dense and sweet, that's all I could handle. I'd probably order it again but as a different flavor when I'm feeling in the mood for a dessert. Vietnamese coffee is my favorite type of coffee and I was excited to see there was Gu Coffee & Tea while I was in Roseville! Came around noon on Saturday and it was not busy at all. A very small, but cute little shop. Loved how they had the self pay option because my boyfriend and I went in without knowing what we wanted, so it was nice to be able to view the menu with pictures. Your girl loves sesame and it was the perfect opportunity for me to try the sesame coffee. If there's a specialty drink that has sea salt cream, that's my boyfriend's go to, so he got the sea salt coffee. The lady that made the drinks was super quick and our drinks came out shortly. I loved my coffee, perfect combo of rich and nutty and strong brew. It's not the strongest Vietnamese coffee I've had in sac, but this was a good in between. The sea salt was also very good. Loved that you could taste the salt in the cream, but it wasn't overpowering. It mixed well into the coffee. I would definitely recommend and come back again if I'm in Roseville. I was excited to try their coffee. It's a cute little shop. When I came in no one was up front so I waited a bit. Got their large egg coffee. Over $9 for a large which is a steep price considering the cup size and taste. The coffee alone was good but the egg topping was very sweet. They have a small case of pastries that were croissants and danish. Their menu is small and as always, I was drawn to their tiramisu kafe as I love tiramisu. My husband and I ordered the following: 1. Tiramisu kafe: a beautiful presentation for a crafted cup of Vietnamese ca phe. It comes with a small piece of tiramisu but I am not sure why a spoon was not given. I used the straw to scoop a piece of the cake up to try it but it wasn't easy. The tiramisu has a thick cream on top and the cake part was a little mushy after having sunk in the coffee, however, it's not too sweet. The coffee is not as strong and the sweet level is just right but creamy. Not too sweet for not having to adjust the sweet level. Overall, the drink is like a dessert in a cup. 2. Looking at the menu online has me hopeful as the menu wasn't too big but enough to have something for everyone. We got the jasmine oolong milk tea, strawberry matcha, and sea salt coffee. We're heading home to San Jose and looking for coffee, so that means we're looking for a local (as far as we know) coffee shop! My husband found Gu and we headed that way. It's a Vietnamese coffee shop and super cute. It's in a small shopping center and surround by other possibly medical or office buildings. The inside of the shop is more minimalistic, but very festive with their decor. Someone came out from the back within a minute which gave us time to look at the menu and asked if we were reading to order. The plus is the customer service from a young lady. So polite and friendly. She took the time to explain the drinks. I ended up getting 3 drinks. The Ube, black sesame and matcha strawberry. The matcha was for my daughter. She said it was good, but her good means it was great. My two Vietnamese drinks were so delicious. I love Vietnamese coffee!! Which one was better? I was told my a family member to come check this place out as we are oolong tea fans. They have a jasmine oolong milk tea drink that I tried. I asked for half sweetness, which is my go-to but I feel that wasn't needed at this place. If I were to come back again, I probably wouldn't adjust the sweetness. I do like that they use pebble ice! Came here twice during our 4-day visit. Both times the drinks were perfect! The place is very clean with a screen to place your order but the workers still greet you and ask if you need any assistance. We both loved the egg coffee and I really liked the coconut coffee. The matchas were delicious as well. All the drinks were perfectly sweetened and while the coffee could be stronger, it didn't make the drinks less enjoyable. Came here since we had an appointment nearby and saw that it was highly rated. Upon entering there was only one employee up front and 5 deep in line. Cashier didn't seem very engaging with customers. Facility was clean, but that was the highlight of my visit. We ordered the matcha coffee, iced matcha latte and the lychee tea. We all requested light on the ice, but our request went on deaf ears. My lychee tea had half a cup of ice after I sipped the last drop of tea. Tea to syrup ratio was good, and the whole lychees I was looking that was supposed to be on top according to the picture was at the very bottom. And there was no slice of lime as shown in the photo as well. Sipping the tea was difficult, as every sip sucked up the miniature ice. I had been hearing great things about GU, and since I was in the area, I decided to stop by and give it a try. There were so many tempting options, but I ultimately chose the matcha coffee.
