Was excited that a Taiwanese breakfast place opened up in Williamsburg so I was very excited to try. - Egg, Cucumber, Pork Floss Toast 蛋黃瓜肉鬆吐司 - I don't think I've seen this menu item in the US so this was a very cool find! Definitely tastes a lot like the one's in Taiwan 7/11. - Fantuan 飯糰 - This fantuan is one of the most authentic ones I've eaten in Taiwan especially compared to Winson Bakery. I really appreciated the extremely crispy youtiao which contradicted well to the pickled vegetables. I will say the rice ratio was a bit off as the last bit of the fantuan was just vegetables with not that much toppings. Overall, great restaurant and I'm grateful that more and more Taiwanese restaurants are popping up. My one thing is everything is a bit expensive as the meat in here which is pork floss isn't a very expensive item in general.

I was elated to hear that there was finally a traditional Taiwanese breakfast spot opening in the city - and lucky for me, in my neighborhood! When I used to visit my grandparents in Tainan, mornings were marked by sau-bing yo-tyau (sesame pancake and crueller), dou-jiang (soy milk) and of course dan-bing (egg pancakes). Egg & Soy is most focused on dan-bing, which are known for their light, rice-based dough. I found the dough here too chewy versus the ultra-thin layer I usually love. We opted for the version with just eggs rather than stuffed with veggies, but I do think a bit of scallion mixed into the omelette would have added a lot more flavor. The lo-bo-gau (turnip cake) was good, and thankfully here made vegetarian. They were a bit more heavily fried than I'm used to, and it felt a bit more like a bar snack versus a breakfast item.

Welcome to the neighborhood! Delightful find as Taiwanese breakfast is not really an option in this corner of Williamsburg. Came in during the soft opening and had a chance to speak with one of the owners. Prices are fair for a quick bite in the area. Although the kitchen is a bit limited in size, there is a decent selection of sandwiches, bites, and drinks. We got an egg cucumber ham toast, Taiwanese egg crepe, fan tuan, donut, and sweetened soy milk. I'd definitely come back to explore other options on the menu.

Good ambiance and friendly service. I came on a weekday around noon. The store just open 2-3 weeks. Happy to see more Taiwanese breakfast place in NYC! I enjoy the hot milk tea drink along with the QQ Taiwanese crepe. They were also able to accommodate for vegetarian Fan Tuan (rice roll). The veggie sandwich was solid, but would have enjoyed even softer and thinner slices (personal preference). Excited to try even more items next time!

Really cute cozy cafe with really good authentic Taiwanese breakfast. Whenever I come back from Taiwan, I always crave danbing and I'm so glad I can finally get it here! They make it with fresh batter and you can customize the fillings. It's perfectly crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. Don't sleep on the teppan noodle that black pepper sauce is so freaking good! I'll be back for the fantuan and the housemade turnip cakes.

The sandwiches are good but the fan Tuan with sausage is even better! Would come by just for that.

We got the Banter Bowl, which includes pickled carrot, cabbage, watermelon radish, cucumber, edamame, avocado, quinoa, and miso ponzu dressing. You have a choice of meats, so we chose the grilled chicken. Second, we ordered the falafel bowl that includes three falafels, pickled onions, avocado, cucumber, whipped garlic feta, kale salad, romesco, and Za'atar dressing that had a delicious flavor. However, our ultimate favorite had to be the Thai Crunch Wrap with sweet potato fries. It was fairly busy, and our drinks took a while to come, but the food arrived shortly after. The next time I'm back, I will be sure to reorder the Thai crunch wrap. If you have food allergies, they are extremely accommodating and have numerous vegan/vegetarian/GF.

Think vintage wallpaper, little knick-knacks, and warm lighting. It's got character. I ordered the market salad with mixed greens, honeycrisp apples, goat cheese, candied pecans, and sherry vinaigrette. It was a hearty portion - super fresh and flavorful, and honestly more than I could finish (not a complaint!). I also ordered a Diet Pepsi with grenadine; they don't carry Diet Coke, which I almost docked a point for, but the mix was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend it. My date ordered the hanger steak and said it was absolutely amazing. Only hiccup: his first glass of wine he got came out hot... like, microwave-level warm. Fortunately, the server brought a new (cold) one and the rest of the meal was smooth sailing. Service was friendly, the vibe was homey and relaxed, and the food was solid across the board. Would definitely come back, especially for that salad and another round of grenadine magic.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

It doesn't matter that I have been a loyal customer for over 30 years. I don't understand why the people at the register have zero customer service. They want you to hand over cash or credit card, without any questions or conversation, zero personality or kindness, and sometimes rude. On a recent visit, I wanted to check if their payment policy had changed (they charge a fee for credit cards on top of the bill)... I asked them if they still charge a fee for credit cards and their answer was "there are signs everywhere". While that might be the case, i didn't see the sign... I have vision issues and when I told them (with additional explanation) they didn't proceed to assist me. A couple overheard my exchange and said they have had issues in the past too. To anyone visiting from out of town: From this New Yorker, please know if you experience something similar at Sarge's it is not the norm ... most NYC restaurants, cafes, grab/go, coffee shops, bodegas will treat you kindly, without attitude. The guys behind the counter are amazing... work hard, helpful. Please tip them, if you have the means to do so.
