First time here on a biz trip and met up with a friend for dinner. Was seated for my reso right away and had a cushy banquette table. The service was no nonsense NY efficient. They have a solid menu with standard tavern offerings. We ordered a burger and the special chicken with rice and beans. The food was good -- not great-- overall. Park Avenue Tavern- PAT. So many great choices in the area near Grand Central for a bit to eat before a show. My server and the four runners were friendly- they refilled my water and beverage often and checked in several times. I appreciate that- many runners dump and run and neither the server or runner stops back to check on the food or any other needs. Not the case here and I appreciated it. Fries and burger were perfectly prepared and delicious. The chocolate mousse was exceptional- it rivaled what I usually order at French restaurants. I need that recipe! The manager was super nice and recommend we take a short walk over to Park Avenue Tavern. It was pretty busy and we didn't have a reservation but were seated in the bar area with wait service by Ramiro. We started with the pull apart bread - amazing! It was fresh and seemed more like a popover - so, so good. We enjoyed the BBQ Ribs - meaty, flavorful, sizeable portion. The Cobb Salad was also very tasty. I wanted to rate this place higher, especially since I had been psyched to go for a while. I've gone twice recently, once for brunch, and once for an early dinner. Brunch was good and it was great to sit in their heated patio. The prosciutto flatbread and chicken sandwich were well made and really good. When we came for dinner, we also shared the chicken sandwich and added the mac and cheese and spinach salad. Chicken Sandwich was definitely the highlight, mac and cheese was kind of mid, and the salad was pretty good with a dressing substitute but was mostly just a bowl of spinach. The server was really kind and gave us a great tip on an indirect way to let her when we were ready to order. I think much of my negative review is due to the higher prices at what is mostly a bar, combined with them seeming to have gotten rid of their Happy Hour (but please correct me if I'm wrong!) We came here for a very early dinner during the week so were disappointed there were no specials, not even on drinks. read more

The venue itself is nice and we were happy to be seated outside. Unfortunately, our experience was completely overshadowed by our server's attitude. When I asked a genuine question about one of their appetizers, he responded in a mocking, dismissive tone -- nothing warranted that reaction. I let it go. But then my companion asked for a drink recommendation, something sweet with mint, and he sarcastically replied "Well, it says mint in the name" -- as if she couldn't read the menu. That was the moment it went from rude to genuinely unpleasant. To top it off, she ordered extra ketchup with her food and he never brought it. A different server -- warm, attentive, and actually smiling -- noticed we weren't happy and took care of us from that point on. That guy deserves the stars, not this review. NY is known for their Pizza and Deli sandwiches, so I couldn't leave without trying some version of a pastrami sandwich. The Reuben has good flavor with the perfect meat, sauce and bread ratio. As a side I ordered their chips, but I must warn those with sensitive teeth or sensory issues now to go ahead and substitute them for something else. I'm assuming based on the thickness and texture of the chips that they're kettle cooked. If these are made in house then I think they're being overcooked & under seasoned, as they were also quite bland. If these are outsourced, my recommendation would be to go with a different brand lol. This Tavern is definitely one to visit if you're in the area though. As soon as you walk in you feel like you're at a pub in London. We sat on the main level, however if you go downstairs to the restroom you'll notice there's an entirely different space that I'm assuming is either available to the public when the main floor is fully occupied, or is saved for special events/reservations. I wish I took a video when down there but all the more reason to come and see it for yourself. Shout out to Adva and Quincy who made my fiancé and I feel so welcome here yesterday. The Tomato and Bacon Bisque was smooth and creamy. I got their Burger of the Month ($26), which wasn't actually that special, as it seemed to be a pretty normal burger with gruyere cheese, onions, and baby arugula. It was pretty good though - the cheese was nicely melted, the brioche buns were nice and soft, and the patty was cooked to a proper medium as I requested. The burger also came with a generous amount of fries, which were very standard quality. That being said, I don't really think this was worth the $26. The place itself has a lively environment with a classy yet casual atmosphere. There is plenty of seating inside, as well as a decent amount of outdoor seating by the sidewalk. It was fairly busy when we went for Friday dinner, but we were able to get an outdoor table without a reservation. The staff are fairly friendly and the service speed is average. It was a bit odd that they didn't initially give any ketchup for my fries though - then after asking for it, they just brought me a single tiny container of ketchup (although they were happy to provide more later). We came here unexpectedly for brunch for two during Christmas Eve when plans at another place fell through. They had a very heated enclosed outdoor space that was really nice. The service was good and the menu was diverse. I had a hot toddy off the menu and my friend got this really pretty purple cocktail.
