We used to go to Egg Harbor a lot. When they moved from the quaint house to Main Street we noticed a big difference in food quality. We ordered Benedict which barely had any hollandaise sauce and needed to ask for more. The taste of my husband's breakfast was acceptable except the potatoes were hard and overcooked. I ordered Popeyes crepes which weren't on the menu but they made it. They tasted as good as I remembered. Keep in mind that crepes are supposed to be thin; these were almost a pancake quality. The potatoes again were hard and overcooked. We left them behind when taking leftovers home. Service was slow; not indicative of a usual Egg Harbor visit. We actually had to wait a bit before someone came to give us our bill. The first server took our order and another brought us our bill. Not sure what that was about. Not sure we'll return. read more

Egg harbor is a must go to in the village of barrington! They are extremely efficient and their restaurant is always clean. The food is very good as well. I love the eggs Benedict and the hot brewed tea is a must have as well. They are also pet friendly outdoors. This is a HUGE PLUS for me as I take my dog everywhere. The only downside is you can wait 15-20 minutes to get a table when they are busy, which is often when you are hungry.... no worries, waiting will only make you more hungry and the food tastes even better then. Egg Harbor Cafe is always a safe bet for breakfast or a nice brunch with coworkers and friends. I particularly enjoy the Barrington location during lunchtime because I work nearby and the service is always smooth and fast. They are extremely accommodating if you are in a rush. I recommend visiting a little closer to closing time since the restaurant is usually packed at all other times and you may have to wait for a seat. There is ample parking behind the restaurant. This place is great! Our waitress was helpful and friendly. It's a great place for gluten free and I noticed a lot of the ingredients are local and organic. They have a huge menu. I opted for an omelette with goat cheese, spinach, and avocado. I also got a gluten free cinnamon roll and an iced latte with lavender. The omelette was delicious! It was $10 and it comes with a side of potatoes and an English muffin. The latte was so smooth and had a good lavender flavor. The gf cinnamon roll was very flavorful and not dry at all, I was impressed. I have no idea what that seasoning blend on the table was, but I smothered my potatoes with it and I contemplated licking the plate when they were gone. My fiance and I visited Barrington's Egg Harbor Cafe this past Saturday for a late breakfast (10:30 am). We walked into the restaurant and it was busy...which I don't mind because it lets me know the restaurant must be doing something right. I walked up to a very polite hostess and I put my name in, they gave me a buzzer, and told me it would be about 20 minutes. It ended up being a little less than 20 minutes, which is always nice. Once seated, a gentleman almost immediately came up to our table and starting talking about the menu specials and if we wanted a beverage. We were thrown off at first because we hadn't even had 20 seconds to settle in and see what beverages were offered. Polite gentleman, but I just felt a little rushed. We looked over the menu for a little longer than normal just because we had never been to an Egg Harbor before and also the menu is quite large and...has a lot of good options in my opinion. After we figured out what to get it took a long time to order our food. Another waitress actually came over to our table and took our order. She was very friendly and patient and gave good advice. My fiance is a vegetarian and she ordered the Black Bean Burger Wrap which came two sides: diced sweet potatoes (she loved) and a cup of fresh fruit and she stuck with water as her drink. I ordered the San Antonio Skillet that came with an English muffin and homemade blackberry jam and ordered a 12oz. glass of their freshly squeezed orange juice (a must-have). My fiance wasn't thrilled with the black bean wrap as she said it wasn't seasoned well and the black bean burger itself tasted a little off. I, on the other hand, really enjoyed the skillet. The potatoes were cooked to perfection, the veggies were fresh, and the eggs were perfection. All-in-all we enjoyed our visit, but it is about a 20 minute drive so we probably won't make it back out there too soon. The service was just okay and we weren't wowed by the food. If you are in the Barrington area I recommend stopping in and giving it a try - just stick to their breakfast and pick out an option that has "their favorites" icon next to it. Egg Harbor used to be good but now the food is awful. I went with 3 other people the other day and none of us enjoyed our meal. I had a simple egg scramble with feta, spinach and avocado, how can you screw that up right? Well they did. The scrambled eggs were flat, the feta wasn't mixed into the scramble like it usually is and all of the avocado was brown. I will not be going back there again. read more

I can't tell you how much I love this place. If you're looking for a egg-cellent wholesome breakfast with a cozy atmosphere and great service, you'll find it at Egg Harbor Cafe. I grew up in Barrington, so this place has always been known as the go-to brunch spot. They recently moved to a new building, which is absolutely beautiful. I'm so relieved they kept their cozy country kitchen feel. There's indoor and outdoor seating, and now an awesome full espresso bar for on-the-go or while you wait for your table. Keep in mind---They're usually packed, but the wait goes pretty quickly with their accommodating staff. I really hate when people complain about the wait, because that's what you should expect during brunch hours on a weekend. Since it's a new location, a lot of the staff is new and young. There's a lot of unexperienced waiters and hostess', so you'll have to be patient for the newbies. Overall, I highly recommend Egg Harbor if you're grabbing brunch with a friend or family. My favorite dishes are the skillet (especially the skillet combo with banana bread french toast). You honestly cannot go wrong with any dish though, since they go above and beyond with every meal. Our waiter, Dan G. is awesome, and remembers my order every time I come in--so know you're in good hands if he's your server! I'm really glad that I can feel like a regular at this place. A friend and I sat for about 15 minutes trying to decide from their awesome menu at the Barrington location. They make four different versions of eggs Benedict. I love their oatmeal with fresh berries and granola on top. This time of year, one of their specials is pumpkin pancakes. This time I shared their yummy raisin French toast and yogurt which had bananas, granola, walnuts, and something crunchy on the bottom. It was sooooooo goood. They make crepes, omelettes, frittatas, scramblers, and skillets as well as dressed up versions of the typical breakfast foods. It's so hard to choose. I can't say the same for the waitress... she ignored us. Now...the problem I have with this place are those little cubed potatoes that come with your food.... they looked old... This place is fantastic! Came here on Halloween for breakfast, and everyone was dressed in cute costumes! It was super festive! The employees are all super sweet! We were introduced to our server, and I think we only saw her once, all the other employees had no problem jumping in to help with whatever was needed. (This place was super busy! It was a 30min wait to be seated.) My husband got some kind of BBQ pulled pork skillet, and he loved it. We were told it was a seasonal thing, so hopefully we can get back here before it's gone! I've eaten here once in their old location, once in the new one. While the food was delicious, I do find the booths to be a tad uncomfortable (they are a slatted bench style), and the booths are also very close together - if you or someone you are dining with is overweight/likes room at a booth, I'd choose a table. First time I ate here was on Valentine's Day, and I got the special - a cinnamon roll french toast. I liked it, and it was indeed true to the description, but I discovered that Cinnamon Roll French Toast isn't necessarily for me (I like regular french toast better). The second time, I got the special as well - a scrambler with ham, scallions, and cream cheese. It was good, though different. I'd probably order it again. The new location has nice, large windows that let you look out onto traffic and people walking by - it made it nice and bright inside and would be great for people watching. read more

I went here on a Tuesday morning. It was crowded but there people there so it must've good especially with other diners around. People were really friendly. I got their special which was a Benedict with tomato, egg, avocado, and bacon bits. It was good. I enjoyed it but I should've known that it would be all mushy. There was no crunch to it so I felt like it would have been good for people that have no teeth. I also got their matcha hot chocolate. It was really good. It wasn't too sweet but it tasted like any other hot chocolate. You couldn't really taste the matcha. It was $5. The service was great. Really friendly and attentive. I will be the first to admit, Egg Harbor is not my favorite breakfast spot. Sure, the food is good, but it's pricey. If I'm going to have breakfast for that price point, I'd rather go to Walker Brothers. Maybe it's because they don't offer hash browns, only harbor potatoes, which are home fries and I don't prefer. I had breakfast at the Barrington location for the first time yesterday morning. I will give Egg Harbor points for consistency.... You'll always wait at least 10 minutes for a table during peak times, you'll always be given piping hot coffee, you'll always be given a pitcher of water (excellent for me, as I'm a camel these days,) and your food will always come out SO FAST that you wonder if it was actually made to order, especially given how crowded it is. Yesterday, I tried Cassie's Crepes. They were amply filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, mushrooms and avocado, which for me was a great, protein packed, sustaining breakfast. Actually there was so much filling I wasn't able to finish them all, but I did pick out all the good parts when I was done. I appreciated the freshness of the veggies, but like I said, it came out so quickly after ordering it, I had to wonder if the crepes were sitting in a warming drawer waiting to be stuffed. I was hungry, don't get me wrong, but I'd be happy to wait a few extra minutes for something I know to be freshly made. Aside from that, the location is easy to get to, and the parking lot seems huge until you realize how crowded the inside is - luckily I was able to snag a spot not too far away. read more

We'd been to the Geneva location and decided to try this one out for a birthday brunch. We had high expectations and were certainly not disappointed. We had a couple excellent skillets, a "Down Home" biscuits and gravy dish which did not skimp on the biscuits and included some delicious potatoes, a belgian waffle special that was topped with raspberries, chocolate chips and whipped cream and, I had the banana bread french toast. Just to be different, one of our group also had the cream of chicken and wild rice soup, and said it was really good. We also had some excellent hot cocoa and tried both the strawberry orange juice and the pineapple orange juice and were impressed by both. The seasonal items were a nice surprise. On our last visit (in April at the Geneva location) we had some excellent pumpkin pancakes. It was sad to not see them on the menu, but fun to know that things changed regularly. read more

The parking was cheap: $1 for an hour, and it was in a good location in downtown Lake Geneva. The atmosphere was nice. The service was also very good. Angelo did a wonderful job coming to check on us multiple times and breaking down our bill when I had a question about it. He also stood up at the host stand to make sure it rang up correctly.
