First time at Frantonio's today for lunch. Here are some thots: --I ordered the buon appetito sub sandwich and it was fresh and delicious! Better than any sub sandwich chain I've been to. --Service was excellent and there is plenty of inside seating. Has a casual Italian family feel. --Prices are a little higher $14 for a sub sandwich, but in this case you get what you pay for--portions are pretty big. Highly recommended! read more

My favorite sandwich ever. I've been to dozens of places but this place is by far my favorite. It really has a hometown feel and it's always been busy when I've gone. The portion sizes are quite large and I had my sandwich cut in two pieces. I was trying to only eat half but eventually I wanted to eat the whole thing fresh. They have flavored teas and coke products as well. I made my sandwich however I wanted and everything was delicious. I will definitely go back. read more

So when my husband, unyielding in his pursuit, insisted it was proper carbonara or nothing, the hunt was on. Store after store failed us. Guanciale, it seemed, existed only in theory. I was one more "have you tried pancetta" away from giving up when Google offered a suggestion: Frantonio's Italian Deli & Café. It didn't look like a place that would change my week. But it did. There it was, behind the glass, guanciale. Beautiful, marbled, real. The kind of ingredient that doesn't just belong in a dish, it defines it. Naturally, I left with more than I came for. Everything is great - subs are unmatched. Deli items, including pasta salads, prosciutto, and grilled vegetables are fantastic. Cookies and cannolis are tasty and fresh. Great Italian grocery items, too. Local gem. Family owned. This is the first place my Dad requests to visit when he is in town. (He raves that they have friselle bread and has threatened to fly back to FL with it.) I really like Frantonio's new location in downtown Barrington. The owners and staff are friendly and the food is homemade and excellent. Of course their cold italian subs are very good but I didn't expect the Italian beef to be so delicious. The beef was flavorful and tender. The bread was crispy outside and soft inside. I think they still use Liborio bread which is my personal favorite made in Chicago. They serve it with a cup of beef juice for dipping or to pour over your beef depending on how wet you like it. Their hot giardiniera I got in the side so I could use as much or as little as I wanted. Honestly this is my new place for a great Italian beef. You can get it with our without cheese. Hidden inside a side street in barrington, this super friendly and spotlessly clean restaurant features sandwiches, subs, and pizzas. We split the basic Italian sub for lunch and it was plenty. Super fresh lettuce and ingredients. Not spicy but we will add some hot peppers next time. Our sub was ready in under 5 minutes and served to us at our table. We will be back! read more

Great little Italian deli in Barrington. The Italian beef was fresh, and tasty when we visited a few months ago. This time I had to try their individual pizza. My lord, it was tasty too. Made fresh to order. The sausage is homemade with just the right amount of spice. The sauce was tangy and mouth watering. The veggie sandwich was equally as delicious. One of the best Italian deli in the area! We had the prosciutto mozzarella sub and some side dishes for lunch. The mozzarella reminded me of those from Eaterly! How I miss good fresh mozzarella! The Italian cookies were not to be missed! The orange slice one is sooo on point with the almond flavor and sweetness from the dried orange! I wish I had got more! The people there were friendly and nice! I saw locals would walk in and grabbed premade meatballs and other stuff to go! I am gonna try those premade items next time :) read more

Love this authentic Italian restaurant so delicious!!! They have huge deli sandwiches, salads, pasta and pizza! Went there after my granddaughters dance recital and was pleasantly surprised the food was amazing everything we had was fresh and tasted like a grandmas home cooking! People that work there care about their customers and it shows. Only negative is they don't have wine that is a must for me with pasta. My wife and I have had occasion to eat lunch here several times in the past month and to take home some of their deli meats. They have tables set up to eat inside but you order at the counter. They are very good and are my new preferred source for deli meats. Very good authentic Italian deli sandwiches, delicious pasta dishes and wonderful freshly filled cannoli. They serve authentic old world recipes that are all available for catering. My real reason for my enthusiastic 5 stars is perhaps unusual. Authentic Italian deli meats are less commonly available but they have them here. We are fans of making real Italian sub sandwiches at home. Most places do not slice their lunch meat thin enough to release all the flavor you get when properly sliced thin. It takes longer and is more laborious. I recently stopped in and purchased all our favorite ingredients for sub sandwiches. I did not think to specify how I wanted it sliced. The lady who prepared my order sliced it all as thin as possible WITHOUT BEING ASKED! When we made our sandwiches we were delighted because the meats were authentic Italian and sliced perfectly with extra care. 5 star results and worthy of you patronage. read more

The place is quaint and similar to a street side deli in Italy. The people working there are very nice. The margarita pizza is ok. Ingredients are fresh. Crust is very good. Italian Beef sandwich is decent but very small for $11.95 and no fries. Basically everything on the menu is pricey considering the size to price ratio. Unfortunately, the woman's bathroom is a pit. The floor and sink haven't been washed in a long time. I'm thinking the big hitters are the sub sandwiches. If you visit, you're probably better served to order a sub. Good luck. read more

My son and I stopped in for a late lunch. We recently moved to the area. My son's Calabrese was really good. I had a slice of pizza. it reminded me of the prize by the slice places I went to as a kid. The owner's son insisted we try the spicey sausage that his dad makes from scratch. i make my own fresh and smoked sausage. I am pretty picky. We had a great conversation about all the stuff they lake from scratch. The other place we tired a few months ago their fresh sausage was really dry and not a lot flavor. When we got home tonight, I grilled the sausage up From Frantonio's. The seasoning was spot on. it was extremely juicy. He was right we wouldn't be disappointed . Review is just for the sub. It was sorely lacking in the meat quantity department as my picture shows. The bread was excellent. The sandwich was almost like eating a veggie sub bc of the skimpy meat portion. Very nice people. They offered me a piece of fresh mozzarella that they had just made.
