I call this my 'fancy' breakfast spot. Egg Harbor is always a great spot to grab breakfast if you are in the area. If you want pancakes or fresh squeezed juices that taste a bit different than other breakfast houses, then try this place out. I don't have any special dietary needs, but they have gluten-free options, and seem very accommodating when it comes to the food. I usually opt for crepes or a simple pancake and egg breakfast. The pancakes here are very sweet and are pretty dense. They are soft and tasty, though. They put out a huge carafe of water for the table, so you do not have to track down your waiter every time you need a refill. The staff is quick with the coffee and will even offer you a free to-go cup when it's time to leave. The wait can be quite long for this place, so I suggest to get here early in the morning if you really want to eat here for breakfast. Also, the price is higher than your standard breakfast house. It's Naperville. Plan accordingly. The food has never let me down here. It is a great place to take family. After you eat, take a nice stroll on the Riverwalk. read more

It's very busy so be sure to give yourself a little extra time to wait for a table. I believe I waited less than 10 minutes. The service was good as well. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. One of the best breakfast spots I've ever eaten at, with a menu offering everything from a variety of specialty pancakes to food adults and kids like. Went here two days in a row while we were visiting from out of state. First day was in middle of week and service was quick and dining room a pleasant quiet. Second time, the restaurant was busier and we sat in a noisier area. Loved the eggs Benedict, but most of all the egg skillet with sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, apples and sausage. This line has been a brunch staple for my sisters for years. Our biggest attraction is the GF pancakes and cozy atmosphere. Today was our first time at the downtown Naperville location... and will be the last. Wait time for the table was around 20 minutes, expected for a weekend brunch without a reservation. The coffee bar is a great idea for the waiting crowd, but the Intelligentsia Coffee served was definitely the dregs in the carafe, had to refuse it and request a fresh brew. The hostess was pleasant enough. Our server and the shadowing trainee came around quickly to take drink orders and highlight the specials. We ordered three meals: GF pancakes with sausage, Matt's Meaty Skillet and the Everyday I'm Brusselin' Skillet. The food was served just over 20 minutes later, but not all at the same time, so eggs went cold as we waited for the whole group to be served. The Brusselin' skillet was quite filling, a nice subtle bite of jalapeño gives it a flare. The veggies were substantial and just firm enough. I did add a splash of hot sauce for some extra , just because :) The GF pancakes (the batter is created by a local baker and shipped daily!) were light and fluffy, enough for two meals. Rolled pork sausage is a staple side, nothing special but satisfying. Last to arrive, Matt's Skillet was disappointing in appearance and quality. The initial issue was the eggs having been incorrectly cooked; asked for over-medium, received scrambled. Okay, it happens, we can move past that. But the bacon chunks were hard nuggets, thoroughly burned, tasting like the crumbs from the bottom of a pan. All three of us taste-tested from different spots of the dish, unanimous that all the bacon was bad. When the server stopped to bring out more coffee, we did ask for a remake. Another 10 mins passed and a Skillet came to the table... with a single strip of bacon laid across a cold hash. That just went into a to-go box to be baked at home, disappointed. Checkout was a feat of its own. One register was open, at peak time on a Saturday... the crowd of waiting to-be-diners made it difficult to reach the checkout. We pointed out that we had been CHARGED for the remade Skillet (not just paying for the burnt one, but charged for the second one)! As the server we initially had was now off-shift, the hostess said she had no way to verify that we didn't just order two of the same... denying that we sent one back because it was inedible. Not cool. Thankfully when we escalated the complaint, the kitchen staff verified they received one as a refusal. To finalize that drama, the register was not printing receipts, meaning a signature could not be taken... so now cash only. It was rough and unusual, as all of our many precious Egg Harbor experiences have peen wonderful. While we still will use the cafe for our sisters' brunches, it won't be in Naperville. read more

First of all, we are regulars, at least once or twice a week. Went today about 1130 and were seated outside. Waited at least 15 minutes with no service. Finally flagged down an employee who then said she'd get somebody. Nobody showed up. Then flagged a server who said she didn't have our table but would take the order. We ordered two entrees and one to go. After another 20 minutes we received the togo from another employee. The 2 entrees never arrived. Egg Harbor is really cute, and not in a new trendy way...in a more old school way. But it's not a diner. It's one of the few older places in Naperville and it's quite charming. It can be crowded with long lines, as brunch goes. The menu is traditional brunch stuff, but it's good! I'd compare it to Butterfields with a more homey vibe. (and a way better location) read more

The food was great, we went for breakfast. The mimosas were pretty good, they limit you to 3 per person which is a pretty good way for them to keep things moving along on a busy Sunday. The online " wait list " is such a great perk for such a busy place to have as well. Just try not to sit in the front room by the hostess stand. It's extremely noisy from the door constantly banging and you hear the non- stop cappuccino machine (or some type of blender). I felt bad for the hosts, they had so many people bickering about why they lost their spot because they weren't there when called. These guests must not have known about the online wait list. I'm convinced that the gods gave us brunch to help us forget about our awful weeks. It is single-handedly the greatest meal that ever exists, where savory and sweet options are both acceptable as main courses. It's also perfect for vegetarians, because it's so easy to make substitutions. You can't go wrong at Egg Harbor. It's nestled into the heart of downtown Naperville, right in front of the Riverwalk. If you're waiting for a table, go ahead and take a stroll to work up your appetite. I went here with my sister on a Saturday morning. We made sure to call ahead, so our names were placed on the waiting lists. I love when restaurants do that. When we came, we only had a 5 minute wait instead of the expected 25. However, they accidentally called our name a bit early, so we were forced to stand around a bit awkwardly until a table opened up. They apologized, so it wasn't a big deal at all. The coffee is great. I got the Intelligentsia dark roast, and my sister got the Java Mocha. The coffee is rich and deep, and was a perfect start to brunch. My sister's tasted like watered-down hot chocolate, so it was nothing special. I heard their juices are fantastic, but didn't know if I could handle all that sugar, so I chose to skip it for now. Our waiter was very kind, accommodating and friendly. He didn't make fun of us when we ordered enough food to feed a small army. I ordered the Farmer's Market Eggs Benedict, and my sister ordered one of the Veggie Scrambles. We then chose to split the Banana Nut French Toast. Even though the place was packed, the food came out in less than 10 minutes. My eggs benny was one of the best I have ever had. The eggs were done perfectly and the basil hollandaise added a new spin on the dish. The home fries were some of the best I have had, and were perfectly seasoned. I still added my hot sauce though. Everything is better with hot sauce. My sister liked her scramble, and we both loved the french toast. It wasn't overpoweringly sweet like most are (I'm looking at you, IHOP), and you could really taste the banana and spices. The bill wasn't too bad. Three dishes and two drinks cost about $35. Egg Harbor has been one of my favorite breakfast spots for years. However, the last four or five times I've dined in have been disappointing on many levels. While they seem to have gotten rid of the very dated chicken decor, now it's all blank walls. The thing I hate the most is that the view of the kitchen is unobstructed. And I am not talking about an open kitchen. The kitchen needs doors. The first time I got stuck sitting by the kitchen I thought maybe the remodel was not complete. But apparently the ugly kitchen view is here to stay. My most recent visit a week ago, we were seated adjacent to a bus station. It needs a partition. I don't need to see bins of dirty dishes while I am eating. We waited 25 minutes for a table before 9 am. Ok. When we were seated the server stopped to ask if we wanted coffee. Yes. She brought two mugs and a small pitcher of cream and spilled all over the table. And walked away. And didn't come back to clean it. We asked her to please wipe it up and she deposited two napkins on the table. And walked away. And didn't return to take our order. After 20-25 minutes we finally got the attention of another server to take our order. There are plenty of new, innovative breakfast joints that it doesn't seem likely I'll be returning to this place in the near future. read more

I frequent Egg Harbor when I am in need of a filling breakfast. I have been Gluten Free for a little over a year now, and I would recommend this location to anyone. When I go out to eat, I am stuck looking at all of the things I CANNOT eat. The first time I dined here, I didn't feel left out. Being Gluten Free can be hard at times, but Egg Harbor gives you the "red carpet" treatment to all of us GF eaters. Your meal comes out with special stickers to let you know that you weren't just tossed in with all the other orders. They have a separate menu with loads of choices. Toast, cinnamon rolls, pancakes, and the list keeps going. Depending on the day, they often have a GF soup option too! If you are wanting to come on a Weekend morning, don't expect to get in right away. There is usually a wait because this place is just that good. Underwhelming at best. Our 2nd time here and by the bad luck of the draw, we were dealt the same non attentive waiter- Antonio. Where do I start. Check in was smooth. Once we sat is where the fun did not begin. During order taking (after 7 mins of waiting) it was clear his friend was walking up as he was completely distracted. After our order read back he walked down to the end of the seating area where he chatted with his buddy more than 4 times for no less than 5-6 mins at a time. When our food came, it was cold and dry. We needed to flag the waiter down for our check. When giving us a check we could also tell his closing remarks were from rote memory. We are smart enough to know that the wait staff says the same greeting and departure lines hundreds of times a week. They expanded their dining room size and added a nice outdoor patio area in the past year or so which helped cut down on wait times a little bit. The flavors were quite good, but it was so watery, almost like a soup. Shakshuka as I've had it is generally thicker, like a chunky tomato sauce. The eggs were poached nicely, though. - the potatoes, often my favorite part of breakfast, were criminally underdone and underseasoned. Not uncooked or inedible, but not at all crispy, and even a good dousing of cholula didn't give them much flavor.
